The Audacity of Grace Part 2
In his message "The Audacity of Grace - Unlimited," Pastor Scott Thomas explores grace as a powerful, transformative force in the Christian life. He describes grace as scandalous (increasing where sin increases), transformative (refusing to leave us unchanged), and victorious (empowering us to overcome obstacles). Pastor Scott emphasizes that grace is not about our performance but God's undeserved favor that qualifies us for His presence, encourages us to approach the throne of grace boldly, and enables us to accomplish the impossible when we declare "Grace, grace" over our challenges.
Welcome to Freelife Chapel, where we help you discover and live the free life in Christ. My name is Kayla and I am so excited that you decided to tune in with us today. Why? Because you're in for a treat with today's message. But first, go ahead, check out our website at FreelifeChapel.org so that way you can see what we're all about here, which is faith and fun. And because you're watching this right now, that means we're family. And here at Freelife Chapel, we love family. So if you ever catch yourself in the Central Florida area, go ahead, stop by, so that way we can connect with you right here on campus in person. But like I said, you're in for a treat with this message. So go ahead, sit back, relax. And I hope today's message encourages you just like it encourages me. Today, I just want to talk to you about living in the outrageous, audacious, bodacious grace of God. Like it's all that and then some. I can't even properly explain it to you, but I want to give you some pieces as to what it looks like. Has anybody ever flown somewhere and you had a connecting flight? And in that connecting flight, they dropped you off. You landed at Terminal A, but your plane in Terminal X takes off in two minutes and 12 seconds. And so you find yourself running like you're trying to get to the other terminal before they close the door on you. Y'all know what I'm talking about? Years ago, Cindy and I were taking a family vacation. We had Caleb with us and he was a little guy, so it was my job to carry him. And we had one of those connected. We were going, I think it was Costa Rica. We were going to go down and we had a connecting flight and it was bad timing. Our flight was delayed getting in. We had to get there in a hurry. Like it's one of those to where they announce on the airplane, we have some people making connecting flights. Please stay seated until these people get off. It was that kind of thing. And man, we get off the plane and we are running down this hallway, headed, trying to get to the other terminal.
And I'm running with Caleb in my hand and I'm pulling a roller board with me. I've got a suitcase behind me. Cindy, she's dressed for the islands because she's an island girl. That's what she is. And so she's got her sandals on and her sun dress. She's looking fabulous and ready to go. And while we're running, I hear clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap coming down the whole terminal behind me. But while we're running, you know this, like sometimes it can be so bad that it don't matter how fast you run, you can still miss that flight. Because I just couldn't get there. Right. And when they close the doors, they ain't going to open them for nobody. When they're late, we don't walk away from them. But when we're late, never mind anyway, but I'm just saying. And so, so they got that. And then they got those amazing things in the airport. Those, those, those little, those automatic walkways where you get on those things and you start walking twice as fast as you were when you did it by yourself. I want one of those in my house. I want one of those between my bedroom and the kitchen. I just want to get on it. Just, just ride it all the way there. Right. It's so cool. You're still walking, but now you're moving twice as fast. Like, Hey, you've kind of feel like you're almost like Michael Jackson moonwalk kind of thing, you know? And, and have you ever been that person that thought I can walk faster than that. And so I'm not going to do it. And by the time you get to the end, your calves are burning. The 90 year old lady with her cat has already beat you to the end. Like, right. Because like, man, I should have just got on the walkway.
I should have just done it that way. There, there, there is that there is that. And I thought that was the stuff until I did the walkway one day. And I'm thinking, Hey, and I'm just passing all those guys, you know, that thought they could out muscle us. And it was a long walkway only to hear beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, excuse us. And here comes a golf cart driving down the middle of the place and carrying people. And they're passing us while we're trying to do the moving walkway. They were living their best life on their phone, not even looking. And one person just driving, get out of the way, get out of the way, coming through. And they, and they really got them there. This is a picture of grace in our lives. Like, like if, if, I mean, if you don't know Jesus, I'm not being mean. If you're, if you're not real, if you're not yet a believer, if you're just walking, you're going to miss your flight. I'm just telling you right now, like you, you can be walking. It ain't going to work. You're going to arrive late. No, no, all my efforts, all my work, all my talent, all my skills. It's always going to come up short. I'm not going to get there. But, but, but then there's the second level. You can be a believer and you can be on that moving walkway and going, Hey, Jesus has made life a whole lot easier. I'm moving faster than I could have by myself. It's nice to be on that walkway. It's, it's really good to be there because you feel like something's moving under your feet. That's a, that's a great place to be. But if you want to experience the grace of God in your walk with Christ, you get to jump on that golf cart of grace. While Holy Spirit is driving beep, beep, beep, beep, get out of the way, get out of the way. And you just live in your best. life while he's doing all the driving. The goal in our Christ life is to keep leveraging our trust and putting the weight of our life on God. The challenge
we run into is as believers we give our lives to God and after we say yes to Jesus then we try to take the steering wheel back and then do things on our own and try to be try to be good enough to be a Christian. Oh we pulled out our scorecard and we said oh I did that good this week I did I just skip that one skip that one skip that one skip that I did that all right this week failed there that was bad like we've got this card and we're judging if we're actually doing it right or not and I'm just gonna tell you right now everybody under the sound of my voice y'all are screwed y'all can't do this I can't do this we're always gonna come short and that's why we need the outrageous audacious bodacious grace of God working in our life. 2nd Corinthians chapter 9 verse 8 listen to what the Bible says God is able to make all grace overflow to you oh read that word again say all grace overflow now everyone use your outside voice one two three all grace overflow to you so that because you have enough of everything in every way at all times you will overflow in every good you're so full of God's grace that it's spilling out of your life living the good life and now that good life that's so much you're so full of spilling out of you is pouring into other people would you tell somebody you're so blessed to be sitting beside me right now you you must be God's favorite watch watch watch watch do this do this just just splash some grace on and tell me you'll enjoy that later you'll get you can thank me later for that just I'm just I'm just I'm just dripping infinite dripping and finesse and dripping in some grace thank you Bruno like I'm just that just it's all going on right I'm discovering that most believers most Christ followers I'm gonna like the mass mass mass majority don't even fully understand what what God's grace is all about and I want us to talk about that today it's it's critical that we know because if you don't understand grace you are looking at grace through your lenses instead of through God's and that's a sad dangerous place I have found myself limiting my life because I didn't understand how God saw me and I was walking with such heaviness and such guilt that I wasn't enjoying the life that he died to give me and I want you to see it grace is what we here's
here's the base definition of grace it is it is the undeserved favor kindness and acceptance favor kindness and the acceptance of God that qualifies us for his presence and blessings but it also a lot of believers will tell you it's the undeserved favor of God yeah absolutely but it's also grace the grace of God is an empowering agent that helps us to move and live our life it ain't cute and cuddly it ain't a bunny rabbit with white fur everywhere God's grace has teeth and it growls and it will move your life forward and it will rip things out of the way when we learn to leverage his grace in our life how do you say I could use that kind of power working in my life anybody besides me yeah well me too let's talk about this because grace let me just I'll put this out there because it's just important to put it out grace doesn't give us permission to live any way that we want to well I'm just everything is fine no no no no no great grace doesn't give us permission to just do anything like it's okay but it does empower us to live life as an overcomer and I want you to know what that means so let's look at what grace is number one grace is scandalous it's just it's just outright offensive the word the word scandal if I'm going to give you definition not my definition if I'm going to give you the actual definition it means this outrage by a perceived offense against morality or law it's it's I'm outraged it's wrong on every level that you are forgiven to the extent that you are it is for you to live that kind of life don't I remember who you used to be should we take a poll in here about how Nasty life what no, we don't even don't even think about before Jesus the truth is ladies and gentlemen If you knew the person sitting beside you before they met Jesus You would get your stuff get up and move to the other side of the church right now. I ain't sitting beside that cat Mm-hmm. That was freaky Freddy right there. I know who that was like I ain't doing that mess You know is true, you know is true I I hear you But watch watch this that's It's outrageous that you and I be would be forgiven to the extent that we are it's
Scandalous that God's grace steps in and says I'll do what people won't do. I'll do what humanity won't understand I'm even going to do something that you're not going to understand You're gonna have to wrestle with this for the rest of your life My grace is bigger than you can wrap your head around and you're gonna have to deal with it because I'm not going away My grace is reaching my grace is loving and I'm not leaving and this is who he is But I got news for you God's grace is even more scandalous than what you understood Because the Bible says in Romans chapter 5 verse 20 this guy named Paul the quarterback of Christianity. Here's what he wrote, but we're sin increased grace Increases even more y'all didn't read with you out outside voice. Let me help you hear you grace increases even more You can't out sin his grace Man when sin looked bad God's grace said yeah, but watch this Man I screwed up go go. Yeah, but watch how I can save But they're too far gone. Yeah for everyone else, but watch me How do you think that you if you're gonna look back at your life You were probably that one that was too far gone And there's no way people thought you would say yes to Jesus and look where you are right now. Look. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah This is the scandalous nature of God's grace and and here's the deal He didn't just forgive your sin from the past He forgives the sins that you're dealing with today and the ones that are on the way tomorrow Because he knows you're good at sinning Now we straight-up sin factories y'all we are straight-up sin factories like no one had to teach you how to sin You were just good at it all by yourself. You could unionize that thing. You were professional. You were licensed You were licensed to sin. Yes, you were you had it going on. That's that's who we are It's in this nature, but the Bible says where that nature is running. My grace is greater than your nature I know how to restore and bring you back and I didn't just forgive you for what you did in the past I'm forgiving you today and for everything that you've done I'm forgiving you today and for everything that is on the way. I've got you covered boo. That's what he's trying to tell you I got you where you are. That's good news right there
A couple years ago. I was going out west to go hunting And I needed some binoculars that were a little bit better than the pair that I had So i'm looking to upgrade and get something a little bougie And so when i'm in there, I mean y'all gotta understand. I just enjoy going to bass pro walking around just smelling the air I Get points in my man card for standing there just looking around that that that's my opinion But anyway, cindy won't go with me. No. No, it's just me. It's just me. It's a guy's trip But I was there looking at some binoculars And and they had this nice pair there and and the guy that the salesman said you need to understand something about this pair right here He said with that pair of binoculars comes a warranty that covers everything Like whatever happens to those will the company will replace those you get a brand new pair. I said Explain that when you say anything he said no anything I said explain that he said if you run them over with your truck and you bust them We'll give you a new pair I'm liking that He said if you decide to get down and shoot them with your gun and bust them. We will give you a new pair If you drop them you throw them if malachi and talia get a hold of them if your grandkids get a hold of them We'll give you a new pair i'm like i'm liking that guarantee right there Like no matter what I do i'm covered i'm covered Can I tell you that? Salvation comes with a grace guarantee This this is hyper good news here on your good days And on your bad weeks You're covered would you shout somebody shout i'm covered i'm covered i'm covered When you're acting responsible and when you're acting ridiculous Yeah, i'm i'm covered that's a good thing days that you're a saint days that you're a saint the the hours that you are a saint And the weeks that you ain't you're covered I want you to understand that no matter where you are in the process you're covered Why because you have nothing to do with how god sees you through the eyes of grace Grace is all based on what he did for you nothing you do for him
So you can't earn it and since you can't earn it you can't throw it away. It's there It's there he's reaching in fact, let me show you how needy you and Are without his grace you would not even look to him for help in your time of need in fact Let me show you how scandalous it is the Bible says while you were still jacked up running ebor city on Friday night Going bedroom to bedroom smoking it sniffing it snorting it shooting it everything you had going on. I died for you I loved you. I was reaching for you I had a plan for your life, and I wouldn't let you go grace has been reaching for you all your life So don't act like you got where you are because you figured something out no no no baby You didn't find Jesus because he wasn't lost he left the 99 to come after your lost tail And he was after you and reaching for you and picked you up It's grace that you're in church right now because a lot of us never thought we would see you here But we're here because of his grace It takes grace for all in order for you to even confess him reach for him He has to give us the grace to do it. We are utterly helpless. I bring nothing to the equation I am a product of grace on every level of my walk with Christ It's not based on how good I am on my great days and on my bad days on my great days I'm still a mess on my good days. I'm glad some things happen on my bad days That's normal, but I'm still loved and I'm in process, and I'm moving forward and God doesn't drop me He doesn't get frustrated with me. He's for me. He loves me, and he's with me through the whole process And let me just help you if this sounds too good to be true Like okay, I don't know Scott like you you pushing some edges there right there Well if we're gonna talk about grace properly It should always make you feel uncomfortable It Should leave you pushing back on it Yeah, I don't know because you're so used to human grace But you've never encountered your father's grace And this is why you and I have got to understand grace from our father's perspective because we're leveraging grace through the lenses of what people say they will grace us for and
People's grace and God's grace are two different things my grace will run out for you Yes, it will and don't look at me with that attitude your grace will run out with me, too Yes, yes, yes, but God's Never does and until we see how he's looking at us. We'll live this thing jacked up So I need you to help me if you're gonna understand that God's grace is scandalous that means you've got to stop trying to be Good enough You got to throw your scorecard away You got to stop determining if I had a good day or a bad day and realize that every day is a day of grace In your life, and it's got nothing to do with how perfect you are and everything to do with how perfect He is and the only thing you and I've got to do is keep getting up after we hit the deck and say yo It's me again. I love you forgive me. I'm coming after you I love you the best I can and I know I've got crazy thoughts, and I know I do things I shouldn't do but I'm coming after you again. I'm not letting up I want you to understand that the love and the acceptance of Jesus is not based on you living sin free That's not the goal Defeat to the Christian life isn't because we sin defeat in the Christian life is because you quit If you don't quit You'll never lose Grace has always got you wrapped up But what happens is when you and I don't understand grace properly I keep pulling my scorecard out trying to be good enough trying to think I'm pleasing God. Is he okay with this? I gave charity I served over here. I read my Bible as if we got things that we got to pluck off I've got these bullet points I got to do every day to make sure I'm in the good standing with God and I'm here to tell you right now on The days that you crush it awesome good for you on the days that you fail He still loves you with an everlasting love like you can't get away from his love his reach David said if I make my mind if I'm find myself in the heavens you are there if I find myself in the depths of The earth you are there Everywhere I go. You've got your arms wrapped around me and David said it's the bundle of life that you have me wrapped in Ladies and gentlemen, you're doing better than you think you are
But you've got yourself Counted down some of y'all score yourself. I'm all I got kind of a d-plus this week in my faith in God Yeah, you're human Deal with it get used to it because that's where we are. We got to stop performing for Jesus because he's not impressed Your performance is not doing anything for you except frustrating you because you think you should have done it better. I Always want to please him with my life But then I'm reminded he's already pleased with my life. Whether your kid has the training wheels on the bike or they're off, I'm pleased with them. If the kid tries and falls down or if the kid rides and succeeds, I'm pleased with them. I love them. You gotta get the pressure off your life and that reality only gives us two responses, gratitude and obedience. I'm grateful. God, I love you. All I can say is thank you. I don't even know how to properly express how grateful I am that you love me like that. Like, I can't do anything to add to your love and I can't do anything to take away from your love. You love me in spite of me. You love me when I don't love me. I'm grateful and so based on that, I just wanna please you with my life. What does pleasing him look like? Fall down, get up. Fall down, get up.
Fall down, get up. Bring your crazy headed self to church again. Talk to him while you're going down the road, especially on Florida Avenue, especially on Florida Avenue, but talk to him while you're going down the road. God, hey, it's me again. Yo, do something here. Like, talk to him, call on him. Live in obedience. All right, okay, so number two. Number one, it's scandalous. Number two, grace is transformative. See, I told you it's not cuddly, it's working. Grace is active, it's got some teeth. The grace of God refuses to leave you where he found you. He will not leave you in the same place. He's always moving us forward. First Peter chapter five, verse 10, it starts off saying the God of all grace, but here's what the rest of the verse reads. Say it with me. Will restore you, establish you, strengthen you, and support you. Like, this is what, grace is doing this. Grace's involvement, grace's activity in your life. When you and I come into alignment and we begin to allow God's grace to work in us, this is what happens. He restores us. That means he puts back in what leaked out.
Something's missing in my life. You're not gonna find it in a bed, in a pill, in a party, in a bottle. It doesn't come that way. I need Jesus to fill the empty spot in my life. That's what he says. Grace will restore you. Bring that hope, bring your laugh back again. It will establish you. I love this. Gives you a solid foundation. Takes the drama out of your life. I'm not running around trying to please people anymore. I hope they like me, but if they don't, I'm good, I'm good, I'm good in the neighborhood because I'm loved by God already. I'm gonna be fine. I'm moving, the drama has got to go. God says, get the drama, get out of your life. I'll establish you and then I'll strengthen you. I'm gonna break the weakness in your life. I wanna build the fight back up inside of you. Give the ability to push back again. Give you the strength to say no to some things in life. I'll give you that strength. And then the fourth one is I'll support you. In other words, I will hold you up so you're never alone. In other words, your whole ability to hyper exceed in life is solely dependent on my grace. You can't do jack without me, so why would you try?
Trust me and put the weight on me. Please get in the golf cart and stop walking. This is what his word is telling us. Because Jesus doesn't just come to save us, forgive us. Grace comes to rebuild our lives. You see, when you and I give our lives to Jesus, you don't just get right, he doesn't just grow you spiritually, he grows you emotionally. That means you and I should be better emotionally than we used to be after we said yes to Jesus. Because he deals with all of our life. That means our relationship should be better after I said yes to Jesus than before. He doesn't leave a part of our life immature and just focus on everything else. No, he wants all of your life to grow up and that's what he's after. Some of us in this room, when Jesus found us, we were addicts, we were cons, we were liars. We had anger issues going crazy, we were skeptics. We wanted revenge, we had people on a little card in our mind, we were coming after them. Some of you, when Jesus found you, you were wealthy. You had the money, good for you. Some of us, we were a pole. So pole, we couldn't afford the last O or R, we were just pole. Some educated, uneducated, it doesn't matter. When Jesus finds you, he starts this whole new thing in our life, but here's what I've learned.
I live different when I'm not consumed with shame in my life. When I'm not consumed with guilt and that's the problem with keeping a scorecard on you. When you're always trying to determine if God's mad at you or he loves you. How many of you know if God wanted to get you, he would've got you? We live in the lightning capital of the world. If God wanted to get you, he would've got you. If he wanted to get me, he would have one of them, Them airplanes land on my house and take care if he wanted to get us he would get us He's not out to get you. He's out to bless you and increase you and elevate you That's the work of grace But if you and I don't understand what grace does we always live as if we're trying to please an angry God and ladies and gentlemen He's not angry He's here to love the hell out of your life and to give you everything you want to things you can't get on your own That's the work of grace in your life Whenever grace steps in now, I'm no longer living out of fear and hate my home gets better. I'm a better husband I'm a better parent. I'm a better friend. I'm better in the workplace I'm more joyful to be around everything changes because day by day I'm being transformed more into his image less like Scott more like him Paul and the Bible wrote it this way less of me and more of you. That's the goal behind his work in my life So God's grace doesn't just change everyone God's grace changes everything You got to know this his grace is power It's outrageous. It's bodacious and it's audacious and it here to transform you The third and the final thing is this Grace is also victorious Could anybody use some victory in your life? About like some breakthrough in your life
Let me give you some good news and some frustrating news The good news is victory has always been available The frustrating thing is we've not seen God's grace property to allow it to give us the victory and we've been stiff-arming victory for months and years Because we didn't let him bring it to our life. I Want to show you how we get this? Hebrews chapter 4 verse 16 Hebrews 4 16 says this So let us keep on coming boldly. Ah, let me hit that again. Keep on coming back Keep on coming back came on that you came once but come back again keep on and let us keep on coming boldly to the Throne of grace that means throne is a place of authority that place of power and authority It's a throne room a throne of grace so that we may obtain mercy and find Grace to help us in our time of need keep on coming back turn to someone tell him keep on coming back Keep on coming back. Just keep on coming back. That's exactly right to the place of grace There is help to win that is waiting on you. Here's what I'm trying to tell you folks How is it that we find victory in grace? I stopped trying to do it on my own and realize I can't do it without Jesus and so daily I turn to him and say God I need you again today God I want to do life based on your word I might not even understand why the Bible says to do it this way, but I'm gonna give it a shot I'm talking to you. I'm inviting you into my mind my life my family my marriage my business Help me to live this in a way that honors you that aligns with your word I visit his throne room boldly that I can receive that grace to help me win Ladies and gentlemen, you got to talk to him. You got to open your mouth and tell him I want you. I need you I'm giving you permission. I submit my life to you. I'm tired of trying it my way. I'm losing everything I'm frustrated. I want to run. I want to quit I need you so I can find strength get established find some joy find some hope That's how I want to live my life and that's exactly what happened with the guy named Zerubbabel Do not name your new kids Zerubbabel Zerubbabel
Zerubbabel, I can't even say it, Zerubbabel, Zerubbabel was a he was a governor in the area of Jerusalem with the Jewish people Make a real long story commentary really short Israel as a nation went into disobedience It went into Babylonian captivity when they were taken captive. They were there for many years when they came out They went back to Jerusalem and they were trying to rebuild the ruins of the city Jerusalem the temple in Jerusalem Solomon's temple had been destroyed and Zerubbabel was the governor there and he had actually gained permits and permission in Order to do the rebuilding from the king that was there not a Jewish king But was what was a foreign king that was overseeing the land, but they let the Jews come back And while Zerubbabel was there and he began to do some work The work began to fall off and then the kingship Changed and now he no longer had the favor that he once had the permits were not weren't good anymore he didn't know if he had the favor the people began to wane and the work on the temple had sat still for 16 years and Zerubbabel is looking at going something's got to change something got to change man. I can't have this it began to bother him We got to rebuild God's house. We need to get back to worship again. It was our lack of worship It was our turning our back from God that got us Into the mess in Babylon. We got to build God's presence a place for God to do all with us All this is going on and then God sends a man named Zechariah a prophet and he comes to encourage Zerub Zerubbabel and to tell him how it is that he's supposed to do this and here's Zerubbabel is looking at the situation and he's going there's no way in fact, you'll hear in this language. It was a mountain it was Impossible it was too big for one man, but look what Zechariah said in Zechariah 4 7 Who are you great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you are a plane in the end of the words. You're just a flat ground You're no longer massive and mighty you're flat and he will bring out the capstone with shouts of grace grace to it Here's what here's what Zechariah told Zerubbabel The capstone is the final piece that you put on the temple once it's rebuilt I want you to go get it now while it looks impossible
While a while you don't have the resources. You don't have the people you don't have the permission. You don't have the favor It's out of your control and you feel overwhelmed by it I'm telling you God's word for you is go get the final piece and I want you to shout grace Grace over open your mouth and speak over this situation and declare God's favor God's work God's joy God's strength God's resources God's support God's provision God's miraculous power I want you to speak grace grace over what you can't do so that God will get involved Oh ladies and gentlemen I'm challenging you today you and I need to look at the situations that we're in and Understand that God's grace is there to make a difference in whatever you're struggling over Whatever is making you cry. Whatever's got you frustrated You've got to open your mouth and speak back to it if it worked for Zerubbabel it'll work for you and I and I dare you to maybe to go home and get your checkbook and hold it up in Your hand in your hands and shout grace grace over the financial situation in your life You might need to shout grace grace over your marriage grace grace over those kids Show somebody shout grace grace Over your finances over your health grace grace Over the situation that you don't know how to handle over the fear over the anger over the things that happen in your past Shout grace over it in other words open your mouth and say something Stop just thinking about it and get real with it make it concrete bring grace alive in Your life and let it do what it was meant to do Yeah He didn't say open your mouth and shout mess mess. I Quit I quit wrong words grace grace Do what I can't do at a level I could never do it in ways that I won't be able to explain it and Make the impossible come down to where I can stand on top of it and I will watch the impossible happen Raising those kids grace grace running that business grace grace Situations you've been through in your past grace grace God has graced you to face to live in and do some things That you could not do without his grace on your life. That's why you are where you are today Can I tell you something?
There's some folks that could never live in or do what you're doing because they're not graced for it like you are I'm pastor in this church But I promise you this They no degree this, Virginia boy could get that would ever qualify me to be in this place If I ever get in my head and begin to think about everything running here I'd be in the fetal position in that corner over there crying a puddle on the floor I can't take all this But I decided to get my mind off of my ability and get my mind back on his ability and just say grace grace over This situation walk in that grace. It doesn't mean it's not tough It doesn't mean I don't hit difficult times But I'm graced for it and I can get through it and you can too But we got to open our mouth and declare over the situations. We're looking at somebody one more time shout grace grace Would you stand to your feet in this room? God's Grace is a weapon we need to pull it out and begin to use it and stop trying to figure it out stop trying to network it out and Shout grace grace and begin to seek God and let him get involved Again, ladies and gentlemen, if we describe God's grace as anything less than outrageous audacious and bodacious Then you have not properly described the grace of God He's greater than you can imagine I read a story. I'll make this very quick. I read a story about a family who was looking to adopt a girl. They had several kids. They said, look, we can add one more to it. Let's adopt a little girl. Contacted the agency. The agency said, we got a girl that's seven years old. And she was adopted into another family. And after a couple of years, I think it was about 18 months, the family had run into several challenges with the little girl. And then they just turned her back. They said, we just can't handle this. And they gave her back to the agency. She was back in the system. And this family, although they had red flags, because if she caused problems with that family, but they really felt in
their hearts, we need this girl. So they adopted her. She's with this whole family. And she was fitting into the family. And the dad announced to the whole family, their annual trip. They go to Disney every year. It was their family vacation. And as soon as they announced the trip, the little girl that they had adopted began to act out in the family, causing problems with the other kids, stealing stuff, getting in trouble at school, just all kinds of uncharacteristic things that they had not seen from her. And now it's like, it's coming out. Like, what in the world's going on? And the dad met with her and, you know, what's going on? Listen, we've got this trip coming up to Disney. And the girl said, am I going? He said, yeah, our whole family is going. But she just kept, she just kept acting out. The father was talking to the agency about the scenario. And the lady who helped them, she said, this is very interesting because the family that had first adopted this little girl, they had a trip they were going to go on to Disney. And we found out later on that when they would take a Disney trip, the mom, the dad, and the kids of origin all went on the trip, but they left the adopted daughter with extended family members while they all went on vacation together. She's always wanted to go to Disney, never had a chance to go. So now the dad begins to think, maybe there's connection. Time for the trip came. The little girl had been acting up. They stayed at Lake Buena Vista exit, doing some shopping, I'm sure. Lake Buena Vista, dad said they were, she was still acting a wreck in the hotel room, just a mess. They get to Disney, they drive under the big arches. It's like the little girl began to melt. When they walked in Disney, she came unglued and a brand new little girl came out of this girl. She's hugging all the characters. She's laughing out loud, the screams, the jumping up and down, the joy. They said, she just transformed. Never seen this. He said we had a full day at Disney. It was wonderful. It was everything you would want it to be. When we got back to the hotel room that night, she's all tucked in bed, she's worn out. And I got down beside her and I put my arms around her, I pulled her tight. She's holding a stuffed animal that she got from Disney. And he said, how did you like your first day at Disney? And the little girl said this, I kept, I wrote it down so I could get it word for word. Here's what she said. Daddy, I finally got to go to Disney World, but it wasn't because I was good. It's because I'm yours. You see the little girl had learned. I don't get to go to Disney when everyone else does. So I'm just going to go ahead and act a fool and
I'll give them a reason to leave me. I don't act good enough. I'm not sweet enough. I'm not really a part of this family. I'm not going to get the blessing anyway. So I'll just be me. Can I tell you something, ladies and gentlemen, that some of us that still have a hard time believing that you're really in the family and that God is going to take you on the trips that he has planned. He's not leaving you behind. As messed up as your decisions might be and as twisted as relationships might be and you're making things right. I know I shouldn't do this and I shouldn't be in this. And he loves you with an everlasting love. He's never backed up on you. He's never built on you. You can't stop his love. You can't advance his love. It just is. And you're in his family. You belong. And he's going to take you all the way with him every day of your life. Would you bow your heads in this room? If you're here today and you say, Scott, I don't know Jesus that way. I've not asked him into my heart, my life, and maybe it's been a while and you didn't understand this grace, but you're, you're moved to say, I want to get this right with him today. I need, I want to accept Jesus into my life that way. Here's what I'm going to, I want you to know when you say yes to Jesus, you're not saying you're going to live perfect. You're not saying you're going to have it all together. You're not, you're all, you're saying I'm going to keep getting up every time I fall down and keep moving towards you. You're going to mess up You're going to blow it. You're going to have bad days You're going to have some good days But it's always going to come with the grace of God loving you and drawing you if you're saying Scott I need that relationship with Jesus today.
