Sinners, Serpents, and Salvation

In Numbers 21, a weary and impatient Israel grumbled against God and Moses, despising the manna He had faithfully provided, and the Lord sent fiery serpents among them in judgment. Difficult journeys always expose what is in the heart, revealing anger toward God's direction and ingratitude for His provision, and Scripture warns that testing the Lord's leadership is a serious sin. Yet when the people confessed their sin, God responded with grace, commanding Moses to lift up a bronze serpent so that anyone who looked at it would live. That strange remedy points directly to Jesus, who was lifted up on the cross so that everyone bitten by the deadly serpent of sin can be saved simply by looking to Him in repentance and faith.
