There is still a kingdom that stands unshaken. There is still a God who saves. A God who heals. And a God who restores. The God who still can. Throughout history, every move of God has begun with a people who believed he could do it again. So tonight, we come boldly before the throne of grace. Believing chains will break. Believing hope will rise. Believing prodigals will come home. So lift your eyes. Bring your faith. Raise your expectation. Because God is moving. The Bible is here. We're calling on the king of heaven. We're longing only for your presence. Your grace is the only leader. We're running to the name of Jesus. The Bible's in the air. Can you feel it? Can you feel it? We're here believing for our healing. Redeeming, living in your freedom. Well bring the holy restoration. To every tribe, tongue, and every nation. The Bible's in the air. Can you feel it? Can you feel it? The Bible's in the air.

Can you hear it? Can you hear it? The Bible's in the air. Can you see it? Can you see it? The Bible's in the air. Can you believe it? Believe it. We're believing for revival. You can do anything God. I can feel the chains of addiction break. I can feel the weight of depression beat. I can feel your power every step I take. Can you feel it? I can hear the sound of my victory. I can hear the shout of a heart set free. I can hear the roar of a risen king. Can you hear it? I can see the lost turning back to the whole. I can see the prodigal running home. I can see the church kneeling at your door. Can you see it? Can I believe your presence is all around? I believe your spirit is breaking out. I believe revival is here right now. Believe it. Believe it. Believe it. Yeah. Revival's in the air.

Some of you know what that looks like to depend on Him, right? You've called out to Him. He showed up. It's changed your life, right? Some of us come in here still questioning this, man, is God real? Man, I'm so glad you're here. Is God real? Like, how does this make sense? How does faith make sense? I think about Matthew 19 and the rich young ruler. This kind of ruminates in my head right now that I'm thinking about, you have all I need. And this ruler comes to Jesus and says, what does it take for me to be saved? And he lists off some of the Ten Commandments and he says, what? He says, I've done them all. And then he says, sell everything you have and follow me. And he walked away, the rich young ruler walked away sad. Because look, it's not often that, it's not all the time that we love the wrong things. We just love them in the wrong order. We have to put God at the center of what we're doing tonight and Thursday and Friday. We got to get the order correct. I had the order out of whack one time. Couple hundred times. Dang it. And I shared this story, we're going to sing a song, we've introduced it to our church here, but I had the order out of

whack. And my question was this, God, can you still do what your word says that it says that you can do? And what I found in his word over and over again is it's true. He does what he says he's going to do. So I don't know where you find yourself at tonight. Maybe you come in here and this is one last ditch effort to see if this faith thing makes sense, to see if God makes sense, to see if he's going to come through, see if he's going to be who the word says he is. Some of you may be hanging on for dear life in your marriage. Some of you may be just riddled in addiction. Here's what I know. God has a purpose for your life. It is not that. It's that you get the order right and that we love the things that God loves because he changes us. And I can assure you, God still can. So if you know this song I want you to sing it with us we're gonna lift him up and we're gonna believe we're to preach to ourselves a little bit okay okay we're gonna preach a little bit to ourselves that God still can do what he says he can do here You Are Everything Like water in the wilderness You're the source of every breath Turn my faith to sight till I'm believing You don't know impossible Your power undeniable I'm convinced that You will stop at nothing All things are possible You still do miracles So I will lift my hands to the God who can Kings and their kingdoms fall But You are unshakable I will lift my hands to the God who can When I'm stuck in unbelief You're blood the cure for my disease I will stand believing for my healing

I got to meet Ed Coming in the door So grateful to meet Ed Eric Oops But see now I'll never forget Eric, seriously, it was great to meet you on the way in. I can't tell you how much it means to me. Goes to Blue Springs campus. So many of you that have come and maybe you're not even part of Abundant Life. Could be you're here tonight. Yes, somebody in the house doesn't go to Abundant Life. We're glad they're here. Could be tonight somebody's invited you and you wonder what all the Jesus thing is all about. Like, really? Can it be that good? Well, there's a whole lot of people here that think it must be. I want you to know that we're here because 2,000 years ago, we are convinced that the sinless Son of God came like the sons of men. He hung on a cross. He died for our sin. But three days later, he rose again, and he's alive today. That Jesus really did raise from the dead, and if Jesus rose from the dead, it changes everything for everybody. We want you to know if you're not yet a believer, it's okay. You can belong before you believe. You're welcome among us. We're grateful you're here. We pray that maybe sometime soon, you too will believe, and Jesus will change your life like he's changed all of ours, because that's what he does. That's who he is. It's so great to have friends. Ed Newton is one of the dearest friends I have in my life right now. He is a pastor of Community Bible Church in San Antonio, Texas. Revival has come to Community Bible Church. I mean, the city's seeing revival, and I mean, and not just, you know, we use that term in church life, but I mean really a move of God. Very unique this year, what God is doing, and doing it through CBC, what God is doing, just radically changing lives. They baptized 4,700 people a year ago, and I'm so grateful for Ed Newton, his friendship, his kingdom leadership. Church, we are so blessed. We have come to meet with a resurrected Savior who knows us by name, knows our needs. We're fully known, fully loved, and I'm grateful to have a friend like Pastor Phil

and his wife Krista. Can we honor the man of God and the woman of God who has been called, commissioned. Come on, y'all can clap a little bit louder. 26 years of faithful gospel ministry, and you stand in their yes, their crazy faith to start a church and believe that from this very city that the world could be changed for the glory of Jesus, and for that we're grateful. And so I just want to take a moment just to let you know, for many of you, you know not what you walk in, that the Spirit of God is amongst you. You're a leading church in the country. I need you to know that so many churches, much like our church, is learning from your church, gleaning from your church, stealing ideas from your church. But unequivocally, can I tell you the reason why the hand of God and the favor of God is on this church is because you have a pastor that unapologetically preaches the whole counsel of God that's not going to back down. Come on, it's not going to back down, not going to bend the knee to culture, to choose to say that the Word of the Lord rules supreme, and rules, and reigns, and helps us understand that the God that rescues, and saves, and redeems has also given us His Holy Spirit. Now, I just sense the Holy Spirit in this place. It's good to be with some rowdy Pentecostal. Come on, can I just... When I say Pentecostal, come on, don't start tripping over that. Pentecostal means that we receive the Holy Spirit. Come on, that's Acts chapter 2. Come on, the Holy Spirit of God is not an it. Holy Spirit of God is the third person of the Trinity. It's not a force. It's not karma. It's not Star Wars. Come on, it ain't vibes. Come on, I've been filled with the Holy ghost of God, the same Holy Ghost of the disciples God is living in you, which means that it's the same Holy Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead that was active and alive in the hearts of the disciples. And we're disciples of the disciples of the disciples of the disciples that we're walking in the calling and the anointing and the appointing and the destined. And when we understand what we've been called to, we recognize there's only one way to live life and that's on the rock of who Jesus is.

Only one way to live life is to say, I'm not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus. And so tonight I have an assignment and I just want to commend you as a church to gather multiple campuses coming together, seeking one, one God for who he is and what he's done. And I just want to commend you for 25 days. You've been pressing in and grabbing the hem of the garment of God, just asking God for a move. And I just want to go ahead and tell you at the end of this service, I'm going to give an old school Billy Graham crusade come forward invitation for people to leave their seat and meet me right here at the front. So I'm just going to tell you that on the front end, because if you can't stand up for Jesus in here, you ain't gonna stand up for Jesus outside of here. And I'm telling you, when you, when you meet Jesus for who he is, I'm not talking about an Americanized version of Jesus. I'm talking about a Bible Jesus that loves you, died on a cross for you as pastor field already talked about the fact that he was sinless and he went to the cross for you and invites us into a living, breathing, real relevant relationship with him. You, you got a choice to make. And yes, you do listen, belong here before you can believe here. And all of that is true, but I just sense some of you are at a different place and you need some more time. So I just sense in my heart, there are people that God has sent in this room. And for those of you that are in additional seating, can we just

honor you? Thank you for not leaving tonight. Thank you for the fact that, come on, we can clap because y'all are sitting in here and there's a lot of people sitting in another room right now that couldn't get in here. And that's an incredible problem, but I just want to look into a camera and say, thank you for not leaving. Thank you for staying. And I also believe in faith that there's going to be a gospel call of invitation for many of you to actually walk out of overflow and to come into this room and go, man, I heard the gospel in another room, but I'm going to come and I'm going to testify in this room that Jesus has saved me. So let's just open up our hands together. We'll be all right. And we'll pray. And then we're just going to jump into the message tonight. Father God, we thank you for your promises. Thank you for an incredible time of worship. God, such an anointed team songs that have been written for this house and God, I pray that these songs that have been written for this house, God will not stay in this house. God, I pray they go to the edges of the earth and God, I pray you'd breathe on these songs and they would get all over Spotify and Apple music and God all over YouTube and God bless some people in their commute to work or at a gym or maybe at home. And God, I pray that these songs will be the anthem of this house in Jesus name and all God's people said, amen. Amen. Come on, let's clap together.

It'd be all right. Can we clap together? Amen. And amen. Now I want to preach a message simply entitled built tough. Built tough. I want you to look at your neighbor right now and say you built different. Come on, look at your neighbor right now and say you built different. Now, for some of you that are not hip to the jive of that particular phrase, you're like, I don't know if I just actually was critical to the person next to me. I just want to say this out loud. Actually, you complimented your neighbor. You weren't body shaming your neighbor. You weren't, you didn't call your neighbor big boned or thick or nothing like that. I promise you. Come on, get out of your feelings right now, but I believe that the people of God should be built different. Can I get an amen from somebody? We got to look different, love different, act differently, different in a way that obviously causes this world to understand that our lives are anchored in the truth of who Jesus is, that our life is built on the rock. And Jesus gets to a concluding statement in what's called the sermon on the mount. The sermon on the mount is 111 chapters over 2,700 words, the greatest sermon from Jesus Christ himself, not to multiple services, not to multiple churches, but thousands of people. I have stood in this location in which Jesus delivered the sermon on the mount. And when he was preaching, the sermon on the mount was interesting to me because when you summarize the sermon on the mount, you hear words like, blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God. You'll hear phrases like, you are the salt of the earth,

you are the light of the world. And then he would get very pragmatic and practical because he would take a deep dive on the Ten Commandments. And he would say, if you have anger in your heart towards your brother, you're a murderer. You're like, yo, I didn't kill anybody. And Jesus is like, no, no, it starts in your heart. And then he doubles down on that and he says, but if you have love. in your heart towards another woman, you've committed adultery and all of a sudden they're beginning to hear these words that go beyond behavior modification and leads to heart transformation. And all of a sudden Jesus continues to press in. He goes, if your right hand offends you, cut it off. And folks are like, I'm not trying to cut off my hand right now. And he's not talking physically and literally. He's just saying, how radical will you be with sin in your life? If there's something in your life that continues to lead you down the slippery slope of compromise, would you get it out of your life? And so he's listening. Many people were listening as he's preaching and proclaiming. And then he's talking about, pray for those who persecute you and those that would offend you and ask you to go to mile, go an extra mile. And then, then he would pause and he would say, our father, which art in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread. And then he would say forgive us of our debts as we forgive those who have trespassed or debted against towards us, as we put that in practical terms. And they would say this and lead us not in temptation, but deliver us from evil. And then we'd say this, let your yes be a yes and your no be a no. And so he's just giving wisdom because once more, he didn't come just to add onto the law of Moses. He is the law of Moses. He is the word and he's speaking the word to them. But then he brings this sermon to a close and he says, there's two gates. There's a wide gate and there's a narrow gate. And he says, there's two fruits. There's a good fruit and a bad fruit. And then he says this, he goes, there's two types of professions. There's a lip profession and then there's a heart possession. And then he shares some of the scariest verses in the Bible and says, not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter the kingdom of heaven. And then he closes with a story as every good preacher does with a story. And the story is about two foundations, but you can see the

categories, the categories. There's no third category. Can I just say this? C.S. Lewis said it right. There is no neutrality with Jesus. That every second of every day of every moment of the day, there's a claim of God and a counterclaim of Satan. There is no neutrality. You're either on the rock or you're not on the rock. You're going through a broad gate or a narrow gate. You have good fruit or bad fruit. You're either giving a heart possession statement of my life has been changed by Jesus or it's just empty lip profession because there are many people that say they believe in Jesus. The demons believe in Jesus show. So Jesus is like for real. He's going, I'm not here just to entertain you. Jesus is expounding and pontificating and he's drawing and he's pressing in and everybody in the vicinity of him is listening to Jesus. These aren't pagans. These are religious people who understand the Old Testament and Jesus in this moment in Matthew chapter seven verses 24 all the way through verse 27 concludes the Sermon on the Mount with this statement. He says, everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. Somebody say rock. And then verse 25 he says, and the rain fell and the floods came and the winds blew and beat on the house, but it did not fall because it was founded on the rock. Somebody say rock. And then verse 26 and everyone who hear these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. Somebody say sand. And then verse 27 and then the rain fell and the floods came and the winds blew and beat against that house and it fell and great was the fall of it. So to continue on the theme of Jesus of two categories, point number one, write this down, same word, different response. Same word, different response. Now the scripture just revealed to us in Matthew chapter seven verse 24 it says, everyone who hears these words of mine. And when we hear the statement of these words of mine, you have to understand that every rabbi or every religious teacher that would stand in front of an audience much like this as they were speaking would actually have to footnote and quote where they learned their religious material from because they would quote other rabbis. But I need somebody to get with me tonight. Jesus does not quote any other rabbis. He doesn't quote any other scholars. He doesn't quote any other theologians. He actually goes everyone who hears these words of mine. And here in this moment he's actually claiming authority that he is the word. John chapter one verse one, in the beginning was the word and the word was with with God and the word was God. Verse 14, and the word became flesh and dwelt among us. And so Jesus is preaching the word because he's the word.

And as he's preaching the word, he's quoting nobody. And just to put this in context, many of us have a love, hate relationship with English language, specifically that comes into the format of literature and term papers. Can I get an amen from anybody else? Because there's some of you that graduated magna cum laude, but your boy up here graduated. Thank the Lord. Can I get a witness? From, from anybody else. And so for me personally, I just remember my English teacher was like, Hey, Hey Ed, I got to talk to you about this term paper you wrote because you use some words that don't sound like you. Now this is pre-chat GPT, ladies and gentlemen. And she's like, you use some words that you typically don't speak with. And so it's obvious that you've borrowed some words. She wasn't calling me someone that was plagiarizing, but she kind of alluded to the fact you've borrowed some words. And she said, Ed, listen, I'm going to give you a chance to go back and footnote. I was like foot what? She was like footnote, which means you got to put a little number at the bottom of the page and you got to give a source. And then that number has to actually coincide with what's called the bibliography page because that's where you got to list all your sources and those numbers got to connect. I was like, I'm sorry, you lost me. With numbers and letters because numbers and letters should never go together. Right? So, and that's called algebra. Right? And at that moment, she's like, no, no, no. You got to have a source because you're saying stuff that is not from you. You've borrowed it from somebody else. What I'm trying to tell you is that Jesus, when he talks, he don't need no bibliography page.

He don't got to source nobody because he's God. And as he's speaking, watch this. He's not just borrowing language from other rabbis. He's actually quoting God and he is God. But here's what's interesting. God is speaking, but there's two people listening. Now there's thousands of people listening, but it falls into two categories of people that are listening. People who hear the word and do the word and people that hear the word and ignore hear the word and ignore the word. Y'all with me church heard it, but didn't apply it, heard it and didn't do it. James chapter one verse 22 says that we're called to be, here's the word and do it and not just do it. Excuse me, not just here's the word, but doers of the word lest you deceive yourself. And then there's first John chapter two that I can't just get out of my soul. It says, if you say that you have a relationship with him, then you are going to demonstrate that you obey the commandments of God. But then first John two verse four says this, but if you do not obey the commandments of God, then you're a liar. That's not Ed's translation. That's like straight up word for word translation, which means this, that salvation, the root of salvation is not obedience. The root of salvation is Jesus Christ that leads to obedience and the demonstration of a relationship with Jesus is I want to do his word. It's John 14 verse 15. If you love me, then you'll keep my commandments. But he's talking to a group of people. And this is the reason why I'm gripped every time I stand in front of people because this ain't a black thing. This ain't a white thing. This ain't a Brown thing. This ain't a campus thing. This ain't a Republican thing. This ain't a Democrat thing. This ain't about your socioeconomic background thing.

This ain't about your house thing. This ain't about your car thing. This ain't about your brand thing. This ain't about your job thing. It comes down to two types of people in this moment and has nothing to do with the external and the material. It's whether or not your life is on the rock or it's on the sand and you go, Ed, how do I get it on the rock? You have to ask the question, are you going to build your life on Jesus or are you going to build your life on the things of this world that will come and go? And here's what's interesting. In order to build our life on the rock, we have to understand that God's given us the instructions of how to build our life on the rock and it's the promises of God. Now let me take a commercial break for just a second. I just, I just gave you a lot right there. All right, hang with me. Y'all still listen to say amen. Now there's two types of people. That's the theme tonight. Two types of people in the room, overflowing in this space. And let me just use this illustration. How many of you have ever bought something from Ikea? Can I get a witness from anybody else? All right. And some of you are laughing because you know where I'm going with this. And um, there are two types of people with Ikea. There, there's the instruction reader who loves to read the instructions in Swiss and German and French and Spanish and sign language and other languages. You love instructions. And then there is another group of people that looks at the picture on the box, all right? And just by, all right, you already know who those people are right now. And so just by show of hands, come on and participate with the sermon tonight.

How many of you are instruction people? Would you raise your hand? Dear God, there's a lot of you, right? So, and if you're like picture on the box kind of person, would you raise your hand, all right? Now, I noticed something is that many of you are married to a person who is an instruction reader, and you are the picture person on the box. And you might be asking the question, what kind of person I am. I am a picture person on the box. I think the fact that I don't know how to spell the word bibliography was probably that moment for you and where you came to that conclusion. But my wife, we've been married 28 years. Come on, somebody clap for that. That's a big deal, 28 years. She's a five foot tall Filipino. Call her my brown sugar, all right? And so, and I would just encourage you not to call her that. It'll get weird if you call her that. But her name's Stephanie. And when we assemble stuff together, typically she has a voice that sounds like the Holy Spirit because she's always right. And, but there's a moment, right? So just a hypothetical moment. We've built a lot of stuff together, but at the end of the Ikea project, and say it's a dresser,

is there anybody else like me that all of a sudden you get to the end of the project and the dresser's got a little bit of a gangster lean to it and kind of, and the drawers don't work. And then dear God, you got 14 extra parts. You don't even know what to do with. And you're not going to deconstruct it. You're like, well, I'm just going to figure out how to make this thing work. But you got somebody in your life that was like, you could just hear just this real religious spirit that comes out of them. Sometimes of like, well, did you read the instructions? And if you're like me, you could get filled with pride. Sometimes you're like, I don't need the instructions. I just saw the picture. And then they'll just kind of try to open up the drawer and it doesn't work. And then they'll hold up the Ziploc bag with 9,700 extra parts that are left over because you might be married to somebody or in a relationship with somebody where they don't even have to talk. They raise their eyebrow or they use phrases like, hmm. And here's the moment, because I know I'm talking to somebody tonight that can relate with this. You'll say something crazy and be like, what's just defective? This thing's defective.

I didn't mess this up. Somebody from Ikea wasn't paying attention on the assembly line and you blame it on this. Now, the reason why, come on, just a little commercial break coming back to the word, is all of a sudden, I need you to know that Jesus goes, when you look at your life, it's got a little bit of a lean to it. It's not working the way you thought it was supposed to work and you got some stuff happening and some stuff ain't closing and you got a bag left over of a lot of stuff that you thought was gonna work but didn't work. And then all of a sudden, God looks at you and goes, all right, what do you wanna do with this? And you're like, your fault, God. And because he loves you, he doesn't condemn you, but he just goes, but I gave you the instructions. And you thought that you didn't need me. And you thought, but here's the good news. That Jesus don't give up on people. They got some drawers that don't work and got a whole lot of extra parts and got a little bit of a lean and dear God, might have a little duct tape along the way. And so, but God, I tell you something, Jesus loves you enough to tell you the truth that there's only really two types of people. There are wise people and foolish people. And he's not insulting your GPA.

He's not saying you're not magna cum laude. He didn't question your SAT score. What he's really addressing is the fact that you just think you're smarter than he is and that you got a better way of doing it. In the words of Dr. Phil, how's that working out for you? But we've all been there, myself included, been there, done that, got the T-shirt, wanna give it away. Come on, anybody else? You're like, dear God, I wish somebody would have talked to me like this a long time ago. But I tried to figure it out on my own. I thought the world was gonna teach me some stuff that would have some principles that would make my life better. And Jesus goes, man, listen, you can't put your weight on the world, but you gotta put your weight on the God who made the world, who knows everything about your world. And even though you feel as if your world is falling apart and unraveling, there's a God that could put back your world because he takes broken pieces and makes masterpieces. Come on, can we clap together? Y'all right, it's who he is, it's who he is. Now, point number two, write this down. Not only do we see the same word, but a different response. Number two, we see a same house, different foundation. Same house, different foundation. Foundation I listen y'all I've been a Christian for a long time over 35 years and and and I've read this section of scripture before

And and I I'd never seen it like this and when I was studying this I was like dear God How did I miss it because the wise man and the foolish man are both building a house? Now the word house is where we get a Greek word called oikos y'all I'm not trying to impress you with Greek all right I struggle with English But when it comes when it comes to the word oikos the word oikos is not bricks and mortar and shingles and sheetrock He says that there are Two men that build a house, but watch this he doesn't criticize And I gotta say this so you hear this because I just learned this and I say that out loud as a pastor I just learned it this past week So this for me, this is like Krispy Kreme come on red lights on coming off the conveyor belt fresh hot ready I Probably should have said that out loud. I don't even know why I said that right so But but here's the truth. This is like dear God How did I miss this that when it comes to two men that are building? Yes, it and we're gonna talk about rock, and we're gonna talk about sand, but they're both building something But he does not criticize the building because whether you are a Christian or a non-christian Believer not a believer. We're all building something Every one of us are building something, but it's the word oikos Which is where we get the word not just for a house brick mortar sheet rock and shingles no No, we're actually talking about a value system We all have oikos a Value system something that we hold dear and man listen about have a kinetic outburst on this stage Because when it comes down to it is that every person believer or non-believer has a value system All of us have a value system And I know that those value systems could actually pursue things that are different But at the foundation of the oikos of what we're building we all want acceptance listen to me I know Non-believers who long for acceptance just like Christians long for acceptance non-believers won't belonging Believers won't belonging non-believers won't community believers won't community non-believers won't purpose

Believers won't purpose Non-believers won't meaning believers won't meaning non-believers want security and success so do believers happiness and joy For those who don't know Jesus they want these things so do we? Provision freedom I know non-believers that want these things I know believers that want these things this is The value system this is the oikos But this is what's interesting how we go watch this how we go about getting belonging how we go about getting community How we go about getting purpose how we go about getting significance how we go about success and watch This is what Jesus is speaking on because how you go get those things whether it's I'm gonna give my life to pursuing purpose from a paycheck Can I just say this out loud you're calling on your life is more than your paycheck The calling on your life is more than just accumulating stuff But see at the fundamental area of our life It's our oikos that drives us to those things because here's what Jesus is addressing He's not addressing the value system of acceptance and belonging and purpose and meaning and significance and community He's not addressing those things. He's actually going, but are you making those things the foundation of your life? Because if your job is your rock what happens when you lose your job? And when the marriage doesn't work out the way you thought it was gonna work out Or your kids don't act the way you wanted them to act or you get the diagnosis What at watch this whatever you build your life on and it's not something watch this that can outlast the appreciation Decay loss Death then guess what happens then you have something that'll eventually slip away and Then the whole oikos crumbles This is what he's speaking to my father and mother who Were deaf I grew up in a home where both my parents were deaf my mom had cerebral palsy and

Was deaf and my dad was deaf and I was raised in a deaf home So many questions you're probably thinking right now like who taught you how to talk I really I don't even know how to answer that, and I'm not trying to be funny tonight. I don't know. I'm an only child, and I grew up in a home where sign language was my first language, and if you're like, are you fluent, it's my first language. I'm a sign language speaker, and my mom and dad have passed away. They ain't deaf no more, praise God, and they're in heaven and love Jesus. And so there's a lot of moments that I think about my parents and their stories, and my dad was a construction worker, and I'll never forget one particular year we were adding on to our house that we used to have in Orlando, and I remember on one particular spring break working with my dad, honestly, all week long, just digging and laying a foundation, and I didn't get to see, honestly, the building of this, and forgive me for just signing this to you, but this is what I was saying to my dad. I was like, dad, it's been one week, and we've just been digging, and I'm tired, but I gotta ask you, why are we digging so deep all week long, and I've had to mix this concrete, and I'm tired, and I'll never forget, my dad wasn't teaching me just construction, my dad was teaching me Bible.

He said this, he said, we gotta make sure that the foundation is set and ready, because you, watch this, he goes, because you can't go up without first going down, and this is what's interesting. What he was saying was is that the weight of what's coming in the build out has to be sustained by what's underneath it, so in order for us to go higher, we got to go deeper, so don't think for a second that this is wasted, and I wanna just put this in the context, because this is what Jesus is talking about. He's like two builders. We're not talking about what they were building, but we are talking about one who builds on the sand, and one who builds on the rock, and for many of you, you're thinking, okay, all right, so there was just a rock, and this man built on the rock, but I've stood in this place. Everywhere is sand, so what Jesus is saying, it wasn't like one dude built in another region. No, they both built in the same area, and watch this, they both built from a place of recognizing that sand is beneath their feet. One chose to build their life on the surface, and then another one made a decision to go, I'm not gonna build on the surface, because I know that will not withstand what may come in the future,

so I'm gonna dig a little bit deeper. One built in convenience, and one built out of conviction, and I wrote something for us tonight. I just wrote something, because there's two types of people. How many types of people? Two, there's two types of people. There's sand mentality, and then there's rock mentality, and I wrote this, and sand mentality is, we want strong marriages without spiritual intimacy, sand mentality. We want financial freedom without financial discipline, sand mentality. We want sexual purity with no boundaries, sand mentality. We want spiritual maturity with no scripture, no prayer, no community, no confession, no obedience, sand mentality. We want God's future, but we don't want his formation, that's sand mentality. We want God's blessing, but we don't want his boundaries, sand mentality. We want healthy relationships, but we don't want uncomfortable accountability, sand mentality. We want public calling, but we don't want private character, that's sand mentality. We want victory over temptation, but we're not willing to say no to the flesh, sand mentality. We want peace without surrender and control, sand mentality. We want wisdom, but we don't want to receive correction, sand mentality.

We want trust without walking through uncertainty, that's sand mentality. We want the fruit of the spirit, but we're not willing to crucify the flesh, sand mentality. All right, so that's sand mentality. Amen. Now watch this, because I feel like in my spirit, can I just get the sound guy to turn me up a little bit? I'm going to lose my voice, man. Y'all got to help me, all right? I got to preach seven more times this week. So man, help me get out of Kansas City tonight, right? So come on, y'all turn me up, man. Thank you. That's what I need a little bit. Come on, help me. Turn me up. Turn me up. Come on, let's get turnt up in here, right? So, but I believe I'm talking to some rock mentality people in here. Come on up. For you, what does it mean to have rock mentality? I obey God, even when I don't understand what God is doing. I make decisions based on conviction, not convenience. I decide my boundaries before I encounter my temptations. I let the scripture have the final word, even when.

Our feelings have the loudest voice. I'd rather disappoint people than compromise what God has called me to be and what he's told me to do. I don't need everybody's approval because my identity does not come from you. I rock mentality, allow people who love me to challenge me, correct me and hold me accountable. Rock mentality is I forgive before I get an apology because it's, it's too expensive to build my life on bitterness. Are you with me? Rock mentality. I tell the truth when it would be easier to tell a lie. I choose character over charisma and integrity over image. I manage what God has given me instead of constantly needing what somebody else has. I don't confuse cultural acceptance from biblical truth. I keep showing up when quitting would be easier and I'll worship God for who he is and not just what he does for me. Come on church. Can we clap to that rock mentality, rock mentality, but listen to me, listen to me. You got a choice. Will you build your whole life on sand or will you dig a little bit deeper? Come on. Somebody say dig deep. Will you be willing to dig deep? Here's the reason why it's important. You dig deep because point number three, same storm, same storm, but a different outcome, same storm, different outcome. Now Jesus talks about this. When you begin to hear verses 25 and 27, he said, the rain fell, floods came, the winds blew and beat on that house. And when you look at verses 25 and 27, everybody look right here.

The winds blew, the rain came and the storm began to beat against that house. And it happened for the man who built his house on the rock. And it happened for the man who built his house on the sand, but there's a difference. I want you to listen to me, same storm, different outcome. And if you know anything about storms, listen to me, when a storm comes through, it's easy to notice what's missing. But I think what happens a lot of times in storms, I grew up in Florida. I'll tell you a story about that in just a second. But when we talk about when a storm comes through, it's not what's missing. It's what's still standing. And I've come to tell somebody because I'm talking to some people, listen, there's three types of storms. You're either going into a storm, you're in the midst of a storm, or you're coming out of a storm. And I told you, I'm a charismatic preacher. I believe that the voice of Jesus rebukes every demon. I believe that the voice of Jesus can speak healing. I believe the voice of Jesus can break the cedars. I believe the voice of Jesus can stop every storm. And in Mark chapter four, the disciples are in a boat with Jesus. And Jesus is asleep in the middle of the storm. And they wake up Jesus in that moment and go, do you not care that we're about to die? And Jesus stands up on the edge of a boat and says, peace, be still. And watch this, and the wind and the waves, and all of a sudden they took a step back. They're like, who is this man that the winds and the waves obey his voice? But watch this. I know some of you have been in the storm six months, nine months, five months, 14

months, 14 years, 27 years. And you're like, Pastor Ed, I'm still in the storm. But there's something different about you because you're built tough. You didn't build your life on the sand. You built your life on the rock. And even though the storms around you continue to rage, there is a peace inside your heart that no one else can understand. It's a peace that surpasses all understanding. Your coworkers don't understand it. Your classmates don't understand it. Your teammates don't understand it. Your family doesn't understand it. Man, life has rocked you. Life has beat you down, but yet you still come in the house of God and you lift your hands. The storm has, has ravaged you, but yet you still getting your word. You still praying. You still radically demonstrating sacrificial gifts of generosity. You still speaking the name of Jesus. You telling people about Jesus. Listen to me. That's a man, a woman, a young person who's made a decision that before the storm came, my life is built on the rock of who Jesus is. And I wonder, can we just take five seconds? Is anybody else with me tonight? Can we just give him praise? Come on, anybody in the storm going, I'm going to give him praise. Cause this, watch this. Cause the storm didn't take something from you. The storm made you stronger.

And your battle chest didn't get built tough because your life is built on the rock. In 2018, a near cat five hurricane comes through the panhandle of Florida and decimates what's known as Mexico city beach. One house survived. They call it the sand palace. And you could just check this out. You could Google this yourself like just sand palace and you'll see it. One house stood while the rest crumbled. They interviewed this man in 2018. And they said, we got to ask you a question. Watch this. What did you do to make your house stand? He goes, I didn't build it to code. Everybody was like, so you did something illegal. He's like, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. He goes, no, no, you misunderstood what I said. He goes, when I say I didn't build it to code, he goes, I didn't build it under the code. I built it over code. He goes, the storms that have come in the past. He said, do you know that the code is that you build a house with the ability to withstand 125 mile per hour winds? He goes, but I chose not to do that. He goes, I've built this house to withstand 250 mile power and mile per hour winds. They go, no storm has ever come through with this. And this is what he said. He goes, here's the problem that people were building their house to storms that have already happened. I was building a house for a storm that not yet had come. And the reason why and watch this and man, I nerded out on this whole article and I watched a bunch of interviews. He said, and everybody wants to tell me, watch this, that I built this house, that I built this superstructure was like 300% more than what an average house would cost. He goes, no, no, no. He goes, I had to make a decision. When I was making a decision on building my house, every square inch of this home, every decision of what it costs was whether or not it will outlast the storm. So whether it had a balcony or no balcony, we said no balcony. Here's the reason why, because the updraft of a wind could take a balcony off.

He said, we had to make decisions counting the cost. Do we want to invest in countertops? Cause he said something that I'll never forget. He goes, you don't see a whole lot of home magazines on foundations. You just see home magazines on paint, sheet rock, countertops, marble, stone, whatever it may be tile. He goes, you don't see no magazines that let's take a look at the foundation. Can I say this? The only time you look at a foundation is when the storm has come because you can't look, watch this, receive this. He goes, you don't build a house in the sunshine. You build a house for the storm. And I got to say this to you. There are a lot of Christians who build their house for the sunshine. And Jesus said in this world, we're going to face some tribulation, but you could be of good cheer that I've overcome the world. And listen to me, come on. We got to understand we're going to face some difficult days, but where is your house built? Sand or rock? One last point. I'm gonna wrap this up. You can see this in verse 28 and 29, same sermon, one decision, same sermon, one decision. It says this in verse 28 and 29. And when Jesus finished these sayings, the crowds were astonished at his teaching for he was teaching them as one who had authority, not as their scribes. Y'all listen to me. Come on. Y'all still listen and say, amen. He has just preached over 2,700 words. The greatest teacher to ever walk across this earth. And you know what they did? Everybody look right here. You know what they did? They were like, they were astonished. They're like, wow, he's not as boring as the Pharisees. Whole lot cooler than the scribes. We like it when this guy talks astonished and amazed. You know what you didn't hear? Repented and got their life off the sand on the rock.

You know what I got convicted about? I stand in front of thousands of people each and every weekend. Once more, not about color, not about your, your political party, whatever it may be. It falls down into two people. Will your life get built on the sand or will your life be built on the rock? That's what it comes down to. And this is just a simple illustration. I mean, it just happened to me. I had to update my phone and many of you know this. You ever seen that, that unfortunate term called terms and agreements. You ever, you know what I'm talking about? You ever seen that? It's like 72 pages of stuff. Ain't nobody reading that deal. Can we all make the hand motion together? If it's electronic, anybody want to make the hand motion with me? Come on, man. Your risk is sore. And at the bottom you're like, except you get that really goofy pencil. You sign your name, use your finger. You got some handwriting that you've never, I mean like you, you wrote better like in, you know, when you're three years old at that moment, you're like, I just want to be done with this terms and agreements. You don't even know what you mortgaged off. You don't even know what you signed your life away to. You just want to watch this. And the sermon on the Mount ends in verse 28 and 29. Watch this. Two types of people accept and watch this and then go back and live their life and put it back on sand. Great message, Jesus. I'm gonna go back and do what I was doing. And Jesus goes, Watch this. He goes in the storm came in the wind blew and great was the fall of it. Can I say this to you? You know what the fall of it was? It wasn't just that the storm kind of collapsed the house. He was actually talking about eternal judgment. He's like, No, no, no. There's coming a day where you'll hear these words depart from me. I never knew you and that storm you will not be able to survive, and he leads them to this

place. And I'll close with this. I came to know Jesus and in high school, and I went to a Christian college, and that's where I met my wife. And you gotta understand, I was a new believer when I went to college, and I ended up, um, first date with my wife, Stephanie. I know I'm gonna date myself. How many of you know what what I mean when I say Judgment House? I don't know if there's anybody that will know what I mean by that. Some of you. Okay, nobody knows what I'm talking about. So let me just take just like 60 seconds. Churches in the nineties would have like a drama typically around Halloween time. It was like a fall alternative, and so churches would have this really cool drama, and you would go through different rooms of the church, and it was this really cool play, and they would dramatize something that would be relevant to a story for young people, and at the end of it, there would be a moment where it leads you to a salvation decision. So my wife and I, at the time, obviously first date, we get to the table, we sign up, and now we're a part of a tour group with about 17 people. We don't know the other 15. This is our first date. I think I'm still a new Christian. I think, and I think it's a little weird, I'm like, what church puts on a haunted house? I mean, that's how unchurched I am, right? I'm like, I know Jesus, but I'm like, I don't even know what this is, and so I sign up. My wife signs up. They get our information, and we go through like scene number one, and once more, these are all volunteers from the church that are doing a drama, and it's super well done. So it's like a group of teenagers, and they're at a party, and so that's classroom number one. Classroom number two, we step in with the tour group, and all of a sudden, they get in the car, and they actually like have a real car, and like it's a drama, and like you can see they're now drinking and driving. Then classroom number three, there's a another moment where, man, there's a car wreck, and they got firefighters, and once more, it's like it's a drama, and man, like I'm going, whoa, this is like getting real, and then from there, we end up in this hospital room where mom and dad have to identify the body, and I'm like, this ain't no haunted house. I don't know what's going on in here, but like I know this is a drama. I know these are people that volunteer at

the church, but like this has hit me in the feels, and then all of a sudden, real talk, we end up in hell. Next classroom is hell, and I got a lot of questions at that moment because I'm like, could you imagine the pastor making an announcement? Hey, we got Judgment House coming up here in a couple months. We need some volunteers, and we need some more demons, and we need some more, you know. I'm like, who volunteers to be in hell at the church? That's a whole another conversation, right? So, but I'm in hell, and it's hot. It's hot. 17 of us. We got demons hissing. Satan's on a throne, and it's showing a picture of these kids in hell, and I'm freaked out, and then we end up in heaven, and I liked heaven because heaven was cool, like literally cool. It was cold. It wasn't hot, and all of a sudden, y'all check this out. There's a God figure behind the counter, and we're all backed up against this wall, all 17 of us, and God, and listen, this is a volunteer at the church, is calling people by name, and he calls them by name, and then he's like, and escorts him, like literally points to walk into this room, and this door opens up, and I'm just watching. I know this is a drama, but man, I'm in this, and they're walking into a room with Jesus, and they're getting hugged, so like 17 of us. I don't know 15 of these people, and now it's me and Stephanie. First date. First date, and God, who's called everybody by name, calls Stephanie. Stephanie walks to heaven. It's me and God, and it dawns on me. I'm like, I know this is a volunteer at the church, some dude at the church volunteered to be God, but how does he know everybody's name, and then I'm like, huh. It was the card I filled out. When we read I got to tell you about that card. I didn't write Ed Newton. I wrote Eduardo Nutano. That's what I wrote. It's me and God, and 16 people just went to heaven, and God volunteered at the church. I could tell he's trying to read my card, and he's struggling with the pronunciation. Just for clarity, my name is not Eduardo Nutano.

It's Edward Newton. That's what it is. I was just being stupid, Eduardo Nutano, and God all of a sudden goes, Eduardo Nutano, and I just started walking to hell. I walked right back to hell, literally. I just walked right back to hell, and God was like, no, no, no, no, go to heaven. I was like, thank you, God, I appreciate that. I get into heaven, y'all, Jesus, he's just a volunteer at the church. It's not like a chosen Jesus. You know what I'm talking about? It's just some random dude from the church. He's Jesus. He's like, Eduardo Nutano, well done, thy good and faithful servant. I'm like, I don't deserve to be here. I screwed up the three-by-five index card. You know what? Listen, it was a drama. You know what I was overwhelmed by? Grace, because you know what, man, listen, there's a lot of moments that I put my life on sand, but when I was 15 years old, I just said, no, I just want to put my life on the rock of who Jesus is, and can I tell you, to have a relationship with Jesus is not because I've always gotten it right. It's because I got it right with Jesus, and you and I have to build our life, and it really comes down to a decision that we got to make. If you have not given your life to Jesus Christ, I'm not asking if you believe in Jesus intellectually. There are a lot of people that will miss heaven by 18 inches. You know about Jesus up here, but you ain't got Jesus here. Man, listen to me. Would you put your pride aside and not do, but to go, man, I'm putting my life on the rock tonight, and could you just have like just 60 seconds of just some undignified,

bold faith and go, I don't care what anybody thinks. I'm going to receive Jesus, and I'm going to come forward, and I'm going to make it public tonight, and I'm going to tell you what's going to happen. We're going to lose our ever-loving mind. We're going to clap. We're going to cheer, like honestly, because that's what heaven does, and I like it with everything in me, man. I just want to beg you. The storm is coming. Don't wait. Put your life on the rock of Jesus Christ. So with heads bowed, eyes closed, if you've not put your faith and trust in Jesus, man, hear now Romans 310, none righteous, all of sin fall short of the glory of God. Romans 623, the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life. God demonstrated his love towards you and me while we're yet sinners. Christ died for us, and whosoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. If you confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that God has raised them from the dead, you shall be saved. Hear now, and if you want to do this, you can pray this prayer. This prayer is not a magical formula. This ain't no prayer of rededication. I love prayers of rededication, but this is a prayer of salvation. If you're going, man, I want to give my life to Jesus, I want to settle this issue once and for all, I want my life to be on the rock, and I've never done that before, I want to be a Christian, I want to follow him, I want to live for him, I believe, I've never done this before, but I'm ready tonight. Pray this prayer quietly in your heart, Lord Jesus, I'm not perfect, for I've sinned. Just tell him this, but I believe in you. Save me, change me, forgive me, I give you my life. If you prayed that prayer in faith, all of heaven rejoices, and we would love to know

who our new brothers and sisters are. And if you made that decision, overflow in this space, would you raise your hand as tall as you can, elbow above your ear, hold it up, if you gave your life to Jesus, just raise your hand, elbow above your ear, just raise your hand above your ear, like, hold it up. Anybody else? If you did that, here's what I want to ask, would you look at me? Would you look at me? Listen, man, I'm not trying to embarrass you. Ma'am, young lady, I'm not trying to embarrass you. But I know this. Jesus was not ashamed of you when he hung on that cross. He wasn't. So don't be ashamed of him. So let's stand together all across this campus overflow in this space. And listen, this is going to be old school. The band's not singing in this moment. Who will be that first person that'll go? I'm not ashamed of Jesus. I just gave my life to him and I'll step out and I'll meet you right here at the front. Who'll be the first one that'll walk forward right now to leave their seat, walk forward and stand right here. It just takes one. It just takes one to give encouragement to somebody else. Anybody else? From the top of the mezzanine, from the overflow space, come on, just right here. Anybody else? Yeah, it's okay to cry. It's okay to cry. Thanks for being that friend. Anybody else? Can I tell you what revival looks like? This is what revival looks like. Anybody else? Anybody else? You made that decision. Come on, just walk on down. Now, while some are still walking, it's crazy how encouragement works. So I'm going to ask right now, will you look at your neighbor? Everybody look at your neighbor on either side, right? This is where this gets awkward, but I think it's going to be an encouragement. Look at your neighbor. I want you to say this. If you gave your life to Jesus, say that to your neighbor. If you gave your life to Jesus, I'll walk with you.

Look at your other neighbor right now. Say the same thing. If you gave your life to Jesus, I'll walk with you. So if you gave your life to Jesus, you're like, man, I can't make that walk. You got a friend that's going to walk with your family member that's going to walk with you. Come on, just a few more seconds. Anybody else? A lot of courage. Anybody else? Come on. It's a long walk for that mezzanine, but all of heaven and all of abundant is cheering and clapping. Come on. Hell has lost another one. Come on, abundant exists. Come on, abundant exists to empty hell and fill heaven. That's why we're here. And so here's what we're going to do. Our response team has got a little work to do tonight. And for those of you that are front and you're talking to response team, some of you got somebody to talk to, but if a response team member is not talking to you, they're going to move to you. We want to get your information. We want to make sure you got a Bible. And can I tell you every one of you that just came forward? Can I tell you what's happening on Friday night here? It's gonna be a baptism service.

All right. And so this Friday night, we would love to celebrate your story. Now, everybody look right here. We got a lot of gospel conversations take place and their boldness ought to encourage us. But I'm talking to some people who've already given their lives to Jesus. Man, you got to ask this question. What part of my life is on the sand that I got to get on the rock? Is your finances on the sand? Get it on the rock. Is your marriage, your relationships, your singleness? Is it on the sand? Put it on the rock. You go ahead. What does it mean? To dig deeper and tether it and anchor it to who Christ is and what he's done. I believe what God is asking that the people of God would be about. Come on. Look at your neighbor. Say built different. Look at your other neighbor right now. Say built different. You got to be anchored to a rock that helps you understand when the wind blows and the storm rages that you got an anchor that holds.

You got a God that holds you. You got a God that can calm the storm. but he'll calm you and here's what we're believing for. If there's a decision that you need to make and you need to pray with somebody, come pray with one of our response team members. Some of you, dear God, I pray this would happen tonight, tomorrow, and the next night and across all campuses. May this altar be a space that we would come and kneel down and may the tears of the saints water the seed of revival in this house.
