Revelation + Imagination — Eyes To See All the King Has For Me - Louie Giglio

about it, it's called No Longer Me, and it's a collection about our identity in Christ, so that when the enemy comes with all these lies, that you and I will be able to say, ah, that's not me anymore, that you're talking about the old me, you're talking about somebody who used to be before Christ, in Christ I'm a whole new person, and we're starting that collection in fact next week because the Lord really sort of interrupted the flow of the last two weeks for me, and I saw something that was challenging me around this prayer that Paul prayed in Ephesians 1, and it really got in my heart, and I said, I want to be a part of that, and the more I thought about it, I thought, I think God wants our whole church to be a part of that, so we're doing a message today, this kind of a banner, if you will, an arc for the rest of 2026, and I don't know about you, but are you starting to get the feeling like you need to get your Thanksgiving plans together, anybody there already, like maybe you need to buy a few Christmas presents and start thinking about stuff, we're going to blink, and this year is going to be gone, and I just, I believe that for some people you've already sort of set aside the dream you had back in January, and I think God today just wants to say, look, there's four months left in this year, I can do so much in four months, I can multiply so much in four months, I can exponentially increase things so much in four months that I want to give you a challenge and a banner for the rest of 2026, and so we're going to do that today. Lord, thank you for the gift of Sabbath, we need it, we are so proud and so determined that we are going to do it on our own, and we can't, so thank you for the gift of just pausing and remembering who you are, what you've done, what you can do and what you're going to do and through our lives, I pray today that you would do what we've asked you to do so many times coming into these gatherings that you will open our eyes to see, and I trust that you'll do that in Jesus' name, amen. If you have a Bible today, please come with me to Ephesians chapter 1, and in this phenomenal letter to the church at Ephesus, there is a powerful invitation, and I believe God is extending that, I know He's extending that to you and to me today, just a little context for Ephesians chapter 1, this is Paul, the Apostle Paul writing a letter to the church in Ephesus, Ephesus was a major city in Asia Minor at this point, a Roman outpost, maybe the leading Roman city in all of Asia Minor, influential in so many different ways, and

Paul personally was connected to this church, he had traveled there, spent time there, invested there, poured into the people, raised them up, encouraged them, trained them, taught them the gospel, and now Paul is in prison in Rome, he's in an underground prison that you can go and stand in the city of Rome, and if you go by the Trevi Fountain, that's fantastic, but make sure you make it to this prison, go down in it and just think about texts like this one, where Paul is chained to a wall, but he cares about his brothers and sisters in Ephesus, and so led by the Spirit, inspired by the Spirit, he's writing them to remind them of who they are and to encourage them in who they can be, and if you want to understand this prayer that we're going to look at beginning in verse 15, at the end of the day, you have to go back up and take in all of this chapter, because the first phrase of this prayer in verse 15, Paul says for this reason, then you should ask, I should ask for what reason, and to know the reason, you have to go back up and see what Paul is writing to them and reminding them of in the first 14 verses, but he says to them, for this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus, and your love for all God's people, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. So footnote, what he's saying is, this isn't something I prayed for you one time, I continue to pray this for you. I'm continually giving thanks for you, and I continue to pray this for you, and here's what I'm praying. I've not stopped praying this. I keep asking verse 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the spirit of wisdom and revelation so that you may know him better. And we're talking about a Trinitarian... name of the Father, the one who's the Father of the Lord Jesus Christ, and I'm praying that He will give you a spirit. And so Father, Son and Spirit are all woven into this prayer. And what is He asking? I'm asking God to give you the spirit of wisdom and revelation so that you may know Him better. This is what I continually am praying for you. And I thought, man, if there is a prayer, I want to continually pray that is the prayer. And you are prayed over with that prayer so many weeks. It's very rare that the men of our house don't pray for you before you sit in that seat. God, give our people today a spirit of revelation that

we can see Christ. We want more than people to stand on a stage and give out information, although that's important. God, we're asking for a spirit of revelation in our house. And this is what Paul is praying for Ephesians, the church at Ephesus, and this is what he's praying for you today. But the invitation today ultimately is going to be, is this what you want to pray for you? Because this is a living prayer. It's not a one-time thing. He didn't say, there was a day I felt led to pray for you. And I prayed that you would have the spirit of wisdom and revelation. He said, no, I keep asking this. I keep asking this. I keep asking this. I keep asking this. And then it's in the Word of God. And as you know, the flower may fade and the grass may wither, but the Word of God stands forever. So this is an eternal prayer. This prayer is making it into heaven. This prayer is going to last after everything else is gone. And he's saying, here are the two things I mainly pray that you'll have wisdom. And when you get under this word in the Greek, it's not just saying that you will have earthly wisdom like, like the wisdom writer gives us. Hey, there's a path that leads to life and a path that leads to death. I recommend the path that leads to life. That's important. But that's not what Paul is saying. He's saying, I'm talking about earthly wisdom, but I'm also talking about divine wisdom, that he would have divine understanding, that you would think not just like a smart human, but you would think like God thinks, and that you would have, in addition to that revelation. Now what he's not saying is, hey, I want you to get some new truths. That's not what he's saying. In fact, he wrote a whole letter right near this one in your Bible called Colossians. And the Colossians thought that there was a way to get secret information. And Paul came with this letter to the Colossians and said, oh yeah, no, you don't need to worry about that. You've got everything you need in Christ. He's not saying to the Ephesians, hey, you can get some kind of revelation and get some new truths. No, he's not saying you need new truths. He's saying you need to see the truth. He's not saying you need to know something new about Christ. He's saying, you need to see Christ in a brand new way. Wisdom and revelation. In other words, being able to see with the eyes of God, to understand the things of God. That's what happened. I'll show you an example to this guy in Matthew 27. This guy goes to work one day on a Friday. And going to work on a Friday, he doesn't really know what he thinks about God. He's heard about Jesus because everybody in town

is talking about him. But he's not sure what he thinks about Jesus. He's just going to work to stay on a Friday. Oh, by the way, he works at the crucifixion shop. His job is to crucify people. So he's used to seeing people bleed. He's used to seeing people suffer. He's used to seeing people cry out. And he's used to seeing people die. That's his job. But on this day, it's a different day. And this man that they put on the middle cross apparently has attracted a lot of attention and some detractors. In fact, earlier in the same chapter, passerby's came because they crucified Jesus out in public on a roadside. And they said, hey, if you're the son of God, then why don't you come down off that cross and save yourself? Well, that's what we thought. So he's listened to this all morning. He's hearing all the conversations. He's hearing the guy next to him. He's right there for all of it. And that's just a normal day's work for him except this day ended in a different way, verse 54. And when this earthquake happened at 3 o'clock in the afternoon or at noon on the way to 3 o'clock, darkness falls, then an earthquake and go into the city after the resurrection. It's a crazy time. And when the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified and they exclaimed surely he was the son of God. This guy went home and told his wife, the Jesus guy, he's the son of God. He started that shift with information and he ended it with revelation. Information informs revelation transforms. And when it all went down, he said, it's a done deal. This man is the son of God. And why do we want this wisdom? And why do we want this revelation? Is it so that we can walk around and say, man, I know

I've got all this wisdom and man, I've seen, I've got all this revelation. But what is the point of it at the end of the day? Is it just so that we can be smarter and wiser? No, Paul says the reason I'm praying this for you is so that you may know him, and I just wrote better down here so I don't have to be going back up there, so that you may know him better. That's the goal of the spirit of wisdom and the spirit of revelation is so that you may know Christ better. And I wonder if anybody's interested in that. I'm just curious today, if anybody would like to think, at the end of 2026, I can know God better than I know him right now. Or are you good, like I'm good. I'll be happy with a little more information. Few more notes in my journal, former good messages, few more good messages, I'll be good. Or are you like, I wanna know him more. I want revelation of him. There's no doubt that a lot of people in the gathering today are like that guy that went to work on the Friday. You've heard of him. Everyone in Jerusalem was talking about Jesus. But you haven't seen him. In the prayer that Paul's praying

and that God is offering today is, I want you to see him. I want you to see him. I've shared this so many times. It's like I beat a dead horse. And I don't even know what that means. That sounds terrible. And I don't know whoever did that. And I didn't wanna be there if they did. And I don't even know where that came from. I should look it up sometime. But I know it's kind of like this when I talk about this Mount Rainier thing. And so I'm gonna be short and show you something I haven't shown you before. But college student, Georgia State, my geography class, you know this, I study Mount Rainier. But we didn't have a computer. There's no smartphones, there was nothing. And what we had were these topographical maps. And I've told you that before, but I brought one to show you today. This is a section of Mount Rainier and a topographical map. And what is it? It's these little squiggly lines. That's all there is. That's all you see. And the closer together they are like right there,

that means it's really steep. The farther apart they are, like right there, let you know it's kind of flat right there. And so you can kind of get the gist of the mountain by the squiggly lines. And on this particular map, there's UC Paradise over here, which is a campsite and a place you can drive your car to. Some friends of ours have done that. And then over here, this Miss Squally Vista. And that means you can look up and see the Miss Squally Glacier. There's a little bit of it right there. And then the Squally Glacier's one of 28 glaciers on Mount Rainier. It's got the most glaciers of any mountain in the contiguous United States. And Miss Squally is one that has a great view when you come to Paradise. So you can walk over to the Vista. You can see Miss Squally Glacier. And I mean, I studied these maps. There were 10 of them that we had, that mapped out all of Mount Rainier. And I'd take them home at night. I would memorize them. I asked the TA, can we check out the maps? And he literally looked at me and said, why? So a few months later when my friend Johnny Moshe and I came up around America, go to Mount Rainier,

you know this, something happens that I don't expect. Because I'm an expert on this mountain. Never been insulted more in my life than the tests they passed out on this mountain. any of this, by the way. He doesn't know who he's riding with. We walk up the trail to there and then we can see everything up that way. And man, it shut me down. I should have known, because when we drove through Seattle, we saw this. And that was my first clue. I didn't get an "ooh" or an "ah." I thought we would. Let me just blow it up a little bit. There you go. You're like, "Oh, it must be right outside Seattle. It's not!" And when we got up, you know, somewhere, I don't know, way down here somewhere, not in that building, you understand, looking up there. I couldn't talk. And here's the thing I want us to see today. What I learned on that was 100% true and was not negated by what I learned when I saw that. That also was 100% true. But the impact was radically different. God is saying to you, study the topographical map. Learn good theology. Great. Learn how to study Scripture. Fantastic. Yes, do that. But pray for the spirit of wisdom and revelation that you can know me more. Pray for the spirit that allows you to go, "Oh, okay. I didn't see that coming." Because information, it informs. Revelation transforms. In the very next night after that, in a campsite in Oregon, I said to God, "I want to spend the rest of my life knowing you. I want to know as much of you as you'll show me. I do not want to simply know information about God. I want to know Him more." And that's the invitation that He's giving to you and to me today. You know, it's interesting about Ephesus. At the end of Scripture in Revelation 2, there's a letter written to them. Jesus said to the angel of the Church of Ephesus, "These are the words of Him who holds the seven stars in His right hand and walks among the seven golden lampstands. I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance." Check. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked people. Great. I know that you've tested those who claim to be apostles, but are not. Way to go. I know that you've persevered and have endured hardships for my name and have not grown weary. I'm glad to go after this. But then He said, "Yeah, I hold this against you. You have forsaken the love you had at first. Consider how far you've fallen. Repent and do the things you did at first." He's saying, "Ephesus, you got the information right,

but you forgot the fire and you that burned for me." Go back. I applaud you for your perseverance. I applaud you for your good doctrine. I applaud you for your good works, but go back to the fire that burned for me. And when that happens, by the way, something else happens in us. So I'm praying that you will have the spirit of wisdom and revelation so that you will know Him more. But then He goes on and He says, "I pray." So we're still praying now that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know three things. The hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance and His holy people, his income So the way I heard it, I say it, is that revelation awakens imagination. The eyes of our heart are enlightened. That simply means the light comes on. And when the light comes on, you go, wow, I've been sitting in church all my life. I've never seen it like that. Wow, I've been reading the Bible all my life. I've never seen it like that. I've been listening to podcasts all my life. I've never seen it like that. Wow, I see it that the eyes of your heart may have the light come on, and that you would see these three things, that you would imagine again. This is really what God is saying today, that you would imagine again what you have now decided isn't possible, that you would imagine again what God says he can do, that you would imagine again what God has promised you, that you would imagine again a future where you're fully living in the promise of God. And I don't know, maybe there's somebody here today in something quenched your imagination.

Maybe you failed, and your imagination died with that. Maybe someone spoke something over you, and your imagination failed, or you're in a hard, challenging season right now with a lot of difficulty coming your way, and it choked out your imagination. Maybe just like cares in this world, choked out the gospel, imagination in your heart. And God is saying, I want to give you the spirit of wisdom and revelation, because when that happens, your imagination will awaken again. Amen. And you'll be able to know, not just seek. Do you see this? You'll be able to know. When our eyes are open spiritually, we don't just see things. We know things. I know this. I'm confident in this. I'm settled on this. I can bank on this, and build on this, and walk in this, and move in this. And what are the things that he wants us to see? Number one, he wants to see the hope to which he has called you. Now, hope is, I think, one of the greatest commodities on the planet right now, to have hope. Like, well, why are you hopeful? Do you not know that we're in the middle of this, and that that's going on, and that this situation's

happening, and that the world's falling apart, and that the oceans are heating up, and you don't know what's happening? How do you have hope? I have hope, because God has called me into hope. And that word called, it doesn't just mean that's your purpose, or that's the plan of God for your life. In Greek, that word called means it's an invitation. It means the hope that he has invited you to. In other words, it's God Almighty inviting you into the hope that he is for you. You can talk about the calling a lot of different ways. I don't know if I have time to do this, but a couple of things he's called us to. First Thessalonians 4/7. He's called us to live a life set apart. Call us to live in holiness. First Peter 1/15, call us to be holy, just as he is holy. God's called us to a new way of life. He's called us to know Jesus. 1 Corinthians 1, 9. He's called us to freedom, not bondage. Galatians 5, 13. He's called us to peace. Listen to this. Colossians 3, 15, let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. 1 Corinthians 7, 15, God has called you to peace. He's called you to patient suffering, 1 Peter 2, 21. For to this, you have been called

because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example so that you may follow in his steps. 1 Peter 2, 9. That you may proclaim the excellency of him who called you out of darkness and called you into marvelous light. To eternal life and glory, fight the good fight. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called. 1 Timothy 6, 12. And after you've suffered a little while, the God of grace who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. 1 Peter 5, 10. The hope that he's called you to you. I think you can sum it up this way. The call of God, the invitation to God, is that you are gonna have a glorious future with Christ. You are going to have a glorious future. future. But your best day is when you step into the glorious future that he has called you to. And in that moment, you will realize there was nothing better on Earth than that day. There's nothing going to happen to you better than that day. There is nothing being promised to you better than that day. And he's just needing you to see that today, not just to understand it and the information side. He's needing to have a revelation that I am a person with a glorious future in Christ. I was thinking back about the World Cup and I think we're all over our depression from the World Cup being over now.

I hate to bring it back up. But I was thinking about how in the World Cup matches the players would come out at the beginning of the game. And when they would come out, they'd be holding the hands of a little boy or a little girl. That was the best part of the thing almost because the little kids are freaking out. And I thought to myself, I wonder who held Messi's hand at the final of the World Cup. So of course, I looked online, researched and it's an eight-year-old, but they haven't disclosed their identity, so don't know. But the match before, it came to the City Arrowhead Stadium when Argentina was playing Algeria, I think, they know who the kid was, nine-year-old boy. And he has an interview on YouTube, which I went and watched. And this nine-year-old boy is crazy how he got to be the one next to Messi. That was all beautiful, but he's just talking about how, and I'm holding hands with Leonardo Messi. And what an amazing thing it was, it's like I'm holding his hand. Cool enough. Interestingly, a little, you know, side note, I thought, maybe just for me, the kid's name is Enoch. Have you got any Enochs here today? Anybody know Enoch? You do? Friend? Relative? Well, oh, cool. Oh, he's over there. Enoch, where are you? Enoch, stand up. Give everybody away. [Applause] What a, what a gift your mom gave you. And I thought about it because I love Enoch. I mean, all time, top 10 favorite people in the Bible. Enoch walked with God and he was not because God took him up.

What a way to go. You ready? Awesome. It's going to hug you a little tighter today. Here we are. And they never found him because God took him up. And I thought about this little kid named Enoch walking with the little G-God of soccer. And what it would look like if you and I had sight to see, did we're walking with God? The kid said in the interview, he said, what did it feel like? Were you nervous? He said, well, it was when we first walked out there, it was so loud. Everyone was shouting. And I was like, man, what is it going to be like when man Christ walked into the great assembly together and a hundred million angels are worshiping him and all the redeemed from every nation, tribe, language, and tongue are shouting his praise. I have a hope and my hope is that I have a glorious future with Christ. And we'll all be changed by then. And we'll all need it because all the scars for some in our house, the missing limbs, the loss, all that's redeemed. And that's the hope to which you have been called. The second thing he said is the riches of his glorious inheritance and his holy people are in the saints. That's you and me, by the way. He explains all that in the verses right above. Now, there's a little bit of a division here and people are back and forth on what does this mean exactly because you can read it one way and think that it says, "Oh, God's inheritance is the saints." In other words, what he's looking forward to as his inheritance is you. You're like, "That sounds crazy, but think about it for a minute. What else would God look forward to?" He already has the bag.

He's already got all the houses and all the lands and all the possessions. He has the position and he has the power and he has the name and he has the authority. He has all the jewels already. He's got all the precious metals already. He builds roads out of them. The one thing before Christ went to the cross that he did not have is you. You are the only thing that God wanted that he did not have until Christ went to the cross. And I'll tell you how Christ went to the cross, by the way, if you want to talk about the hope of your calling, he had a calling, Jesus did. And interestingly, his calling was to honor his father, but it was also a glorious future with you. He said, "For the joy set before him, he endured the cross." What joy? The joy of being able to bring to the Father what he didn't have. The one thing he didn't have and that joy and the revelation of it allowed him to endure the cross. He did not endure the cross on information. He endured the cross on revelation. He did not die on that cross going, "I know this is going to be good for people. I know this is going to be important. I know this is fulfilling the Old Testament prophets." No, he died on that cross and endured its agony because he had seen something. And what he had seen is you being given as a gift to God. Now if you split up the two views, is it us being God's inheritance or is it God's inheritance for us? I'm probably going to land over here because it would be weird grammatically for Paul to say the hope is yours and the power is yours, but the inheritance is his. So I'm thinking grammatically, it pushes us towards what he's saying, "Yes, there is an inheritance of God and we are it," and that should blow our minds today. But what he's saying is you would imagine what God has stored up as an inheritance for you.

Where Shelley and I spent some time on our break was a really special place on earth and there are a lot of very well-off people around there, and there are a lot of people they say there that are trust fund babies. Has anybody ever heard that phrase before? Does anybody know what a trust fund baby is? What is a trust fund baby? It's not just why your parents, grandparents, great-great-grandparents, whatever, and it all trickled down and all the things in a trust and I get a check, I get a dividend, they put it in my account, it comes every quarter, it comes every few years, whatever the case is, it just comes and so, you know, trickles down. So I didn't wake up today going, "Man, I got a hustle and get to work." A trust fund baby most days, and I'm not one, so I don't know, so I'm not trying to tell anybody anything I don't know what I'm talking about, but I think a trust fund baby a lot of days wakes up and thinks, "I probably have enough today to do what I want to do." And I, please, I'm not trying to compare, this is apples to apples, no. What if we could see the riches of His glorious inheritance for the saints? Now, sometimes, and again, I don't know, but if I were in a trust fund zone, I might tend to be entitled a little bit, and that's not what God's looking for. with sight tomorrow and go, "I have everything I need to do everything God "has called me to do." I don't feel entitled by that. But I do feel confident in that. And I wanna be a good steward of it. It is a completely different way to live. And you cannot get it simply by going, "Okay, I heard what you said. "I'm gonna think about that." You can only get it by having a spirit of wisdom and revelation so that you know him more,

resulting in the eyes of your heart being enlightened. The light comes on and we stop living with a proper mentality and we start living with an abundance mentality. The third thing, he says that he wants us to see and to know more than to see, to know, is to know his incomparably great power for us who believe. In other words, whatever you're gonna face in life, you have sufficient power for it. And he wants you to know that. And before you can know it, you gotta see it. Before you can see it, you have to have spirit. And then he describes it. He doesn't want us to miss out on it. Well, what kind of power am I talking about? Oh, I'll tell you, I'm talking about the power that is the same as the mighty strength that he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms. That power and where do you see him? How do you see him? Where is he now? He's far above all rule and authority. Thank you, Jesus. He's far above all power and dominion. He's above every name that is invoked, not only in the present age, but also in the one to come, praise God. That power that raised him up and seated him and put him in a place where he's untouchable,

uncontestable, that power. I want you to know that you have access to that power. And then he talks about Christ at the end and I want to keep this in just because it's important to keep remembering this. And God placed all things under his feet, under Jesus' feet and appointed Jesus to be head over everything, hello, for the church. Now, he's head over everything, but he's primarily focused as head over everything for the church. So someone will push back on this for sure. But if you really want to get the fullness of the power that raised Christ from the dead, you're going to get that in the context of the church. You cannot be a free agent floating around in life. Now, you can know God, you can walk with God, you can be intimate with God, you can experience all the things of God wherever you are in the world. I'm just reading the text, which is the church, his body. And the church, by the way, is the fullness of him who fills everything in every way. I always just want to keep him back to this. The church isn't perfect, amen? But it is permanent. It's not going anywhere. And he's saying, this power. He can be your power. And with it, you get a name. And that name is greater than any name

that can be invoked. You see it? You are a powerhouse. You are not powerless. You are power filled. And I'm telling you why Paul's praying, because there is a deceiver in this world. There's an enemy in this world, and he is trying to squelch hope. He's trying to convince you that you are scraping by, and he's trying to cause you to accept the list. And God is saying, man, I'm praying for you. I'm praying for you. I'm going to keep praying for you. I'm going to continually pray for you. I am praying that you will get a new spirit and that you will get wisdom and revelation. And I am praying that the eyes of your heart will be in open. And when they are, and you start seeing things, you'll be walking around, telling people, "Have you seen this? I'm not kidding." have you seen this? And they'll be like, yeah, I've read that. No, no, no, I'm gonna say this. Have you seen this? No, no, no, no, no, have you seen this? Have you seen that? You'll be like, yes. I was there for the whole sermon series. I know, but have you seen it?

And you'll be like, man, you need to tone it down a notch. And you'll be like, no, no, I'm interested in toning it up a notch. I want to know him better and better and better and better and better. I want the eyes of my heart to be open. And I wanna see. This guy was listening to, he said that he'd prayed this prayer every day as far as he could remember in his life. And I said, man, I don't know if I wanna sign up for my whole life or not, but I'd like to pray that prayer every day for the rest of this year, every single day. And so we adapted it to make it personal. I'm not trying to change scripture at all, we're just adapted a little bit. And the prayer says this, I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give me the spirit of wisdom and revelation so that I may know him better. I pray that the eyes of my heart may be enlightened in order that I may know the hope to which he has called me. The riches of his glorious inheritance and his holy people and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms far above all rule and all authority,

power and dominion in every name that is invoked, not only in the present age, but also in the one to come. And God placed him, placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way. God's inviting you to pray that prayer and believe it. Some of you are taking a picture with your phone which I appreciate that, thank you. If for the rest of this year, you prayed this prayer every single day and you believed that God was gonna answer it.
