Prayer: Growing a Passion
SE Online Prayer Study
Week One: Growing a Passion
1. What feelings/thoughts come to mind when you hear the word ‘prayer’? Would you say that prayer is a subject you have a good handle on? Why or why not? Would you say that prayer is something that you have a good experience with? What’s one thing you wish you could change about your prayer life?
2. Read Acts 1:14, 2:42, and 4:24. What do these passages tell us about how the early church viewed and prioritized prayer? When you look at your own life, do you see this same passion and priority given to your prayer life? Why or why not? What keeps you from giving prayer more of a place of prominence in your life?
3. Why do you pray? What are some things you hope your prayers will accomplish? What difference would it make in your prayer life if you viewed it as a time to connect with your Heavenly Father? What are some ways prayer could increase your level of intimacy and trust in God?
4. Read Ephesians 1:15-23. How did Paul pray for the Ephesian believers? What are some of the specific requests he asked on their behalf? How would these requests help them to know and love God more? What would it look like for you to pray for these same things in your life and in the lives of the people around you?
5. What’s one change you want to make in your prayer life as a result of this week’s study? What are some practical ways you can commit to making this change? Who are some people you can invite to join you on this prayer journey? How can you encourage one another in your prayer lives?
As you close, read Psalm 25:4-15. What does David ask God to show him in this prayer? As you pray, ask God to give you the same awareness of who He is and what He wants from your life. Pray that He would draw near to you as you seek His face in prayer.
