Hi, everyone, I'm Stephen Hathaway, and welcome to Holy Heat. I'm the online campus pastor, but I'm also joined with every single campus pastor here at Victory. We're going to be going over some hot food and some hot questions. So gentlemen, why don't you introduce yourself? Yes, Mike McGill, our DeCula campus. Andrew Moen, Pastor Moe, Midtown. That sounds like my real name. Like your college football intro. I do have a government name. Hey, Johnson Bui, and the senior pastor here at Victory. James Granado, North College. TJ Stanley, the Norcross campus pastor. I'm just Chris. Chris Frith, Victory Hamilton Mill. All right, gentlemen, I want to know, before we jump in, how do you do with spicy foods? Chris, why don't you kick us off? I don't do good. I don't do good at all. I'm a Bama boy, meat and potatoes guy, and I'm very nervous about this whole thing. I definitely don't do well. I don't know why I thought we should do this, and I'm regretting that as of this moment. Anybody that you love spicy like this, you were excited that we were doing this? Excited might be a little stretch, but I've been known to dabble in some exotic taste before. Exotic? Wow. That's one of the things I love about Victory, is we have people who have brought us some cuisines from all over the world, and we're going to start at a great level with Atlanta lemon pepper wings.

All right, so you guys ready to do this? Yes. All right, let's jump in. Okay. That's Atlanta right there. Wow. All right, good stuff. What is something about being a dad that nobody warned you about? The diapers. I knew there'd be diapers, but they don't tell you about the really special diapers, which may be happening later for Chris, after this meal's over. It depends. It depends. Good thing. There's diapers, and then there's the like... I didn't know a human could do that, especially not a little one like that. I would say probably the number of adventurous things that you say you don't want your kids to do, but they do it anyway, and so that's why every child dedication now, I just insert this prayer, Lord, we cannot watch our children 24-7, so we need angels. I've literally had angels catch Maximus in the air from jumping off of a couch and not breaking his head, so we thank God. I think, honestly, nobody told me how much of myself I would see in my kids. You know, they tell you, but you don't really know it until you experience it, especially the parts of yourself where you're like, I was probably a bad kid growing up, you know? Well, you know, I guess I can go with that too, you know? Already? It's all right. It's all right. It's all right. Not lemon pepper too much.

It's going to be a long day, friend. I'm telling you. It's all right. All right, next question. Next question. He's crying. What is the best thing about being a dad that nobody told you about? I would actually say what TJ just said, in a sense, seeing yourself in your child. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Like, here lately, especially, Maximus just turned five, and I'm just taking time watching him, and I'm finding myself getting lost in those moments, just looking at him. One, thanking God that he's here, and then the other part, seeing, like, all of my characteristics in raw form, Kendra's characteristics in raw form right before my eyes, and it's just beautiful when you've waited a long time, as we did before having children, to be able to take those times and be in the moment, so it's been amazing. It's great. Yeah. I would add, you know, we're having three kids, and seeing each of them in their different stages of life, seeing them have their own wins, their own moments of success, their own moments where they can look back and say, Dad, did you see me, or, Dad, I did this, and those are some moments you step back and be like, you're so proud of them, but also you get to see some of the things you put inside of them that you, like, poured into them for years, and now, when they're, you know, 11 years old, and they're doing things that they want to do, but you see them coming on the other side of it in a really healthy way and a really good way, those are some really good moments. I read this quote a little while ago that said, your dad is the only man who wants you to be better than him. And I think I probably speak for all of us, like, we legitimately want our sons to be better than us, in every way. I feel like that is good wisdom to share and is easy when you're only eating a lemon pepper with me.

Let's see how you do now that we start to kick up the spice a little bit. We're going south of the border. It is time for tacos. Specifically, these are chorizo tacos with some hot salsa. Love some chorizo. Very good. Pastor Johnson, this question is going to be for you. Father's Day can be joyful for some and painful for others. We talk a lot about Mother's Day and having those conversations with empathy and grace. How do we celebrate earthly fathers while also pointing people towards God as the perfect Heavenly Father? Wow. Yeah, that's very real. I think, especially in today's world, not everybody has the best relationship with their dad. So, I always say, if you do have a good dad, just stop right now and thank God that you had a good dad. If you didn't, that's not the end of your story. And I think that's kind of the balance. So, we don't want to take away from Father's Day by saying, well, because people didn't have good dads, we're not going to celebrate the good dads. Because there's thousands of good dads, tens of thousands, millions of good dads. But a lot of people didn't grow up with a good dad either. And I think that is one of the best parts of being a Christian, honestly. You know, I heard somebody say this recently to somebody who wasn't a Christian. And they said, it's in a moment like this, I just wish you had the hope that I had. And even on a Father's Day, I think we could say, it's in a moment like this, I just wish you had the father that I had. You'll never be forsaken. You'll never be alone. And you have a better father than you could ever dream of in God Himself. And any of us who would even just say, I'm a good father like this much, we know we got that from God. It reminds me of what King David said in Psalm 127. He was someone who knew what it was like to be rejected by his parents. And he had that passage where he said, even when my mom and dad are not there for me, the Lord Himself will take me in. And that's very encouraging, knowing that Father's Day, we can always rely on our Heavenly Father. Pastor Mike, the next question is for you, my friend. So, we know that you love to grill, you love your kids. It's so obvious with your Instagram.

What was the last thing you cooked on that bad boy and how long did it take? Yeah, I cooked a brisket and it took... That's next level. I mean, it was all of 18 hours. Bro, how do you have time for that? So, you put it on the night before, the day before. Yeah, that's how you have time for it. Your jerk hasn't started yet. This is good, this is good. Canvas hasn't started. So, you put it on the day before. You know, get the Traeger going, the pellets in there and apple pellets and just let it go, let it go. All right, gents, you're doing great so far. Now, we're doing round three, which is pizza, as you can see. Specifically, it's an authentic Neapolitan Diavola pizza with spicy salami and Calibrian peppers. Let's jump in, fellas. Here we go. It's hot. You know it's a problem when you don't even know how to pronounce any ingredients that you just said. All right, here we go. Conveniently taking you a long time down there. All right, what do you have to do different when it comes to being a girl dad? I'm going to let you go.

No, I'm good. You have to be very patient. Very patient. You have to listen a lot from a little girl all the way before she got married and even afterward now. When she wants to have a dad talk, just, I don't need to throw out advice. I need to listen. With a daughter, you need to just let her get it all out. That had a little kick. Yeah, I'm starting to, it's hitting now. Yeah, I would second that for sure. And something that I had to learn was that my whisper can be a yell to her. Let me just soften my tone. Let me be sweet. Let me be kind. She makes me sweet and kind, which I love. I love that. That's good. Pastor James, this next question is for you. Yeah, go ahead, man. Go ahead. You welcomed a new child during a year that already carried a lot of responsibility and change. This year has been- Oh, yeah, it's been crazy. So crazy for you guys. How have you navigated balancing family, work, and everything else? First off, is it getting hotter than that? Yes, it does. That's pretty hot. Honestly, yeah, it's been a crazy 10 months. Wild, hectic.

And we've really had to lean on the grace of God over these last 10 months because a lot has happened. It's been a blur. I mean, but it's been great. It's been a great, graceful season. Yeah, you definitely gotta put the emphasis on spending time with family, make sure you get that time with them because that comes first. First relationship with God, then your family, and then the ministry. And so that has helped us in the last 10 months. And God's favor, man, it's been great. This is for everybody, even though you're probably gonna want to answer. When was the time that your dad had to bail you out of something? Why him? Why would he need this? I don't know. Why that guy? Oh, I got a story. That's wild. Go ahead. Why that guy? Back in college, okay? Back in college, my dad gave me $200 to go and get just a suit, some tie, and all that stuff. And if you ever go to Greenbrier, flea market area, you know there's a lot of guys out there who are trying to get your money.

Let's just put it like that. I don't know the name of the card game, but basically you gotta flip the card over and you gotta be like, hey, there's the jack, okay? Drop 200 on it, and he got me immediately. Boom, $200. I said, oh man, this is crazy. So I had to call my dad. Hey, dad. Yeah, I lost $200. I didn't tell him how, but I just said, I lost $200. I need you to send me another 200. And so he gave me the business. Yelled and did all the things. He's like, all right, I'll give you $200 so you can do what you gotta do. But yeah, I lost it basically. Yeah, I lost the bet pretty much. Did you get it back? Did you pay? Did you win it back? Did you bet it back? No, I went home. Yeah. All right, next round, round four. As you guys can see, it is a beef patty, a Jamaican pastry with beef filling and scotch, bonnet, peppers. Oh man. Wow, that's tasty.

Yes, yes you can, you lose points. But yes, go ahead. I don't know if this is unhinged or even a hot take, but I know like everybody thinks their kid is special. My son's the best. He's the best. He's great at everything. He's just the best. Here's a serious one. I think hot take would be your family would prefer more time with dad than more money from dad. Yeah. So I think the easiest thing for a lot of guys to do is go to work, make the paycheck. And that's their way of taking care of their family. But I think most families would actually just want dad there. So what is the last thing your kid roasted you about? Oh my gosh. Oh gosh. Cause I'm sure they've got quips for days. Oh, it's terrible. So they, so the kids, I guess they use this term flame. So they flame me all the time, apparently. Come on, they flame you? Yeah, they flame me. So, I mean, I like, I like to say, got them. And they're just like, the kids are like. And they'll just start flaming me, bro. I'm just like, bro. I mean, he got them.

What you want me to say? My daughter, my daughter flamed me recently. Three years old. She just turned three last week. And my wife said, you know, you can't be eating too much candy cause you'll get a big belly. And the first thing she said was, like daddy? It's terrible. It's terrible. So I don't know what I'm eating here today. I gotta, I gotta work out, man. Let's go. That's amazing. So let me hear the, a wonderful potty training horror story. Oh yeah. I can't do her like that. Still say which one. Don't say which one, you can't do her like that? Yeah, I can't, I can't do it like that. I got one, but I'm not gonna do it. So I won't say that, I'll shift it to Maximus. You know, he is a master of spinning stuff at this point, being five years old. So here recently he started to like, make sure he told us, hey dad, you know, I didn't pee on myself. That was just a lot of sweat. Okay, buddy. I'm glad you're growing out of that phase. You're just sweating a lot.
