Never Say “Enough” | Marcus Mecum | 7 Hills Church

Proverbs chapter 30, verse 15. It says the leech, King James Version says the horse leech has two daughters and this is their names. Each of them has the same name. It's two daughters with the same name. Give, give. Everybody say give, give. Now notice it doesn't say they whisper. It says they cry. So there is an intensity. There is an emphasis here on this is not a passive thing. It's not oh give here, give there. They're crying out give, give. And then it says there are three things that are never satisfied. Four that never say enough. The grave, the barren womb, the land which is never satisfied with water and fire which never says enough. That's gonna be my message. Never say enough. It says the horse leech there or the leech has two daughters. If you've ever had a leech, you would know that they are a creature with an insatiable appetite. That if they've ever attached, one's ever attached itself to you or maybe you've seen it on an animal. They just get bigger. They're a blood sucker. They just get bigger and bigger and bigger

until you rip them off. The leech never says enough. They're never satisfied. They always want more. And then it compares the leech to four things that never say enough. The first is mentioned in that text is the grave. The grave never says enough. I've been to Washington DC and there many of you have seen it, the Arlington Cemetery. And you look across that grassy lawn and there by the tens of thousands are white crosses. And it reminds us the grave never says enough. The Vietnam wall is close by and you can go and look through the thousands and thousands and thousands of names and spend hours trying to read through them and not even make a dent in it. And you can be reminded the grave never says enough. 174,000 people every day. Death says today, I'm taking 174,000. And when the sun rises tomorrow, 174,000 again. Never says enough. 7,250 people per hour. 121 people every minute. Death says, give, give. Death will not discriminate. Does not care whether you're black or white. Your ethnicity is meaningless. Your net worth, your economic status, your education. Death could care less.

It does not care if it takes you through disease or war or tragedy or some accident. The grave never says enough. The Bible even says that hell hath enlarged herself. That hell, think about the millions, possibly billions of souls. And hell never says enough. The grave always wants more. The grave is always crying out, give, give. And then it mentions the water that never says I'm done or I'm full. We would know that when you go to the ocean, that almost all the rivers of our world eventually find themselves emptying in the ocean. You could go look at the great Mississippi or the Niagara River or the Nile or the Amazon. All of them eventually pour into the ocean. You could take the Ohio, that dirty old river right down the road. But it's interesting that thousands of years, all of this water, the billions of gallons of water, and the ocean never overflows. It never goes beyond the bounds that God has given it. And the ocean never says, I'm good. I'm done. I'm full. I'm not thirsty anymore. No, it just keeps on drinking and drinking and drinking. It never says enough. Then it mentions the awesome hunger of fire. You can look at all the fires that hit the West, that destroy areas in Southern California, there in Arizona, recently in Gatlinburg, that fire that swept through that area, destroying countless, causing untold damage in that area. You can look through history and visit some of the great fires like Miss O'Leary's cow who kicked over a lantern and burned the entire city of Chicago to the ground, left a hundred thousand people homeless. You could go to the baker shop

because of a spark started the great London fire that left. Think about this burned down 80,000 homes in 87 churches. Right before that great London fire, 7,165 Londoners had died because of the bubonic plague. And it didn't look like it was slowing down. And the mystery was after the great fire, suddenly no one was dying of the bubonic plague. And they discovered that that fire didn't just stay on the surface, but that had gone down into the sewer system. And by the tens of thousands, they found dead rats everywhere from being burned up or smoke inhalation. And those rats were carrying fleas and the fleas were transferring that plague to the people. And when the fire hit the city, it killed the rats, killed the fleas and stop the plague. That's not my sermon, by the way, but it is a good sermon. If you want to stop the rats, stop the fleas, stop the plague, you need a little bit of fire. Come on, you know who I'm talking about. Anybody got some things that the enemies plagued you with, but you don't know how to stop. The San Francisco fire, 500 city blocks, 30,000 buildings, and the fire never said I've had enough. And then it mentions the barren womb. I love this one because it's so true that I have met couple after couple in this church that struggle with infertility. And if you want to see some desperation in a person's eyes, look in the young woman's eyes who has tried and tried and try to have a child. And she so desperately wants to have a child. To see in her eyes. She'll do anything she the amount of money they spend on fertility treatment, the diets they go on, the planning that they put in, the all the details just to maybe in some way, not walk around with barrenness. Billions of dollars every year spent because the barren womb never says I'm good. I'm satisfied. There's just something about it. And as you think about this and you think about these, these thoughts, there is a mindset to it. And the mindset to me is important to every person in this room. Any dream you have, it is extremely valuable to your walk with God. There is a mindset that a lot of people need to get a hold of. And it is that horse leech kind of hunger that cries out, give, give that never says I'm satisfied. That never says I'm good. I'm set in the same way that. That horse leech cries in the same way, the grave never says I'm satisfied in the same

way that water once more and more and more, or the fire does not stop at this building. And then at this one, it'll burn through anything it possibly can. And in the same way, the barren womb never says I've had enough. You and I are to have something about us. The Bible says hungering and thirsting for righteousness. You gotta want it, you gotta desire it, and you can't let the enemy lull you to sleep with a false sense of comfort and a false sense of I've done enough and I've gone far enough. You gotta have that cry in you that keeps saying, give, give in Jesus name. One of the great tragedies of the church, and I say church, I wanted to clarify first service. I got hard on the church, but I wasn't talking to this church. I was talking to the church at large, and I hope you get this, but we could very easily agree that the church at large is satisfied with a barren womb for they church at large. If you're crying out, give, give, give us souls, give us the loss, give us the hurting. We don't want to limit you, God. We see the harvest is great and we'll work and we'll labor and we'll do in any way to honor you. We'll keep winning souls and fill heaven up and plunder hell. We want to do that. You pretty quickly learn in the church world, you'll be the object of criticism because the message of the world is church. You better stay small, better go to your little corner, better be quiet, better stay insignificant because all big is bad, but big's not bad and small's not bad. Bad is bad. Size is amoral, not immoral. It's amoral. It depends on whose hands it's in. That's why we keep telling God, this is your church. We don't want it in our hands and don't you put it in my hands.

These aren't the kind of hands you put it in his hands. Those faithful hands. Those are the pure hands. Those are the divine hands. Come on. We put this in his hands and you know what we bring with it? A cry, give, give, give, give. Don't let us settle. Don't let us be satisfied. When it comes to my hopes, when it comes to my dreams, when it comes to the things you're believing God for, he's not moved by passive people. God is not moved by passive churches. That casual attitude in no way moves the heart of God. Well, I guess if God wants to do it, he'll do it. I'll stand by and I'll let him do it. Think about that mindset. I'll stand back and if he wants to, I'll let him. When you visit the women in scripture that were barren, women like Hannah that went to the altar in the temple and she was so desperate for a child, the priest came in and heard her cry and accused her of being drunk. She was so hysterical. The only way to explain it was she's drunk and Hannah stands up and says, I'm not drunk. I'm just barren and I want God to give me a child. Rachel, the Bible says, is so exhausted trying and trying, but she's been barren for so long. She says, give me a child lest I die. That's the attitude that God needs. The attitude of the church ought to be give us souls lest we die. We ought to be accused of being in an altar and being the intercessors that keep crying out, give, give. We ought to be at altars, being prayer warriors, praying over the North, the South, the East

and the West and saying, God, give, give. We want to win souls. We want to feel the kingdom. We want to build the kingdom. We want to feel heaven. Do you have gifts? Do you have talents? If so, the same way the ocean says more, and the desirous fire burns up one building and then another, in the same way the grave takes 174,000 and then tomorrow again, and the next day, again, that kind of spirit is what it takes to make the dream happen. The Bible says in Isaiah 40 in verse 31, that they that wait upon the Lord shall mount up with wings like the eagle. They'll run and not grow weary. They'll walk and not faint. The word wait in that verse does not mean to passively set back. It means to hope, to expect, to look eagerly, to have great anticipation. The literal translation is the waiters or expectors will mount up with the wings as eagles. They'll run and not grow weary, walk and not faint. Did you get it? The waiters? When was the last time you went to a restaurant and your waiter was out in the alley taking a smoke break? And you said, well, you know, that's just what her job is to wait. I know you enough to know that you want a waiter who's anticipating. Do you need a refill? How's your meal tasting? Did that come out like you wanted it to? Can you check that? Are you guys okay? Are you guys happy? Oh, absolutely. You need some more sauce. I'll get you some more sauce. Anything else? Are you good? Are you good? Are you happy? You're, you're anticipating, a waiter is anticipating the needs. It says the waiters and the, in other words, you're on your tippy toes, paying great attention. God, are you good? Are you, are you okay? Do you have what you need is how's my worship this morning? How, how, how was, how was my praise today? How, how

was my service today? How, how is my life looking? Is everything okay? Can I get you anything else? Are you happy? Are you good? Now I'm going to hang out back here. I guess, you know, if God wants something, he'll come get me and ask me about which looks more like the church. I'm asking you to be on it, which looks more like the church anticipating, expecting, waiting. What can we do for you, God? Or are you done yet preacher? Cause I'm not changing and I'm not expecting and I'm, I'm going to do whatever I want to do. Well, you won't mount up with wings of Eagles. In other words, there's a place in God you can go. If you change your heart to, to cry, give, give in the same way, the fire cries and the ocean cries. You should never say enough. All Christians should have this attitude. I think about how for my first 16, almost 17 years of my life, I was discipled, not in a church. I was discipled in the world. Now they didn't know they were discipling me, but I know this much. Hell never says I've tore apart enough families. I can promise you this, that club you went to, you didn't show up to it. Cause there were a few people empty, nothing happening. No one on the dance floor. You found the club they're wrapped around. in the building. Hell is always looking for another, another, another. It's after the masses, the masses. The drug cartel is not sitting back saying, we've got enough addicts. We've got all this money buried in some cave somewhere. Our pockets are lying. We're good. They don't care how deadly it is.

They don't care what it does to you, what it costs you, what it costs anybody. Because that is the mission of the world and the spirit of this world. And we think that the church in some way should have a different mindset. Well, I'll help you when things will change. Things will change when the cry of the church gets louder than the cry of the world. When God's people can say give, give in a more passionate, compassionate, heartfelt, real way than what the world is trying to do to drag a generation to hell. And until that switch happens, we're gonna keep losing our babies, losing our school. And you say Washington's responsible for the soul of the nation. You haven't read your Bible. That's your responsibility. That's the church's call. Our call is to cry, give, give. It ain't nobody else's responsibility. This is the church's assignment. And we lose because someone told us along the way that you lose all that when you become a Christian. You leave all that at the door when you become a Christian. But I read my Bible and I see the attitude of Christ and I see the attitude of the disciples and the apostles and the early church. And can I tell you their attitude

was just like that horse leech who had two daughters. They were crying out, give, give. God said, I so love the world I gave my son. Give, give. No holding back, no price too high, no cost too great. This week we had a girl who went on our Hills Women's Health mobile. And of course she's very young and in a very difficult place which we're so compassionate to. Just the unfortunate place so many find themselves in and there's no judgment. But she gets the ultrasound and she not only has one child in that womb, not two, but three, she has triplets in there. She's got a long ways to go. If she hears this, I don't want there to be any pressure but she came to church. She jumped into the Embrace Grace small group which is a group of women who've been through that or in some way are called to that or are going through that themselves is in that small group. And my point is, isn't it something that what the world calls mega. I just see three little babies and a desperate mom that the church said, you're welcome here. What are you supposed to do? What are you supposed to say? Years ago we said, we wanna help those young girls. We wanna help them.

You call it what you want. We see a need and we have a God that equipped us to meet the need. Why would we do anything? Yes. Dry Ridge girl, I believe her name's Angelica or Angelico or something like that. They corrected me many times after I've said this but I can't remember it. But she was in prison and ended up at our Dry Ridge location several weeks ago, got saved, brought her family back the next week, brought her mom back. She's going through summit. This morning is getting baptized. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. What are we supposed to say? Give give Scott was an electrician that worked on my some things at my house and and called me a few months later and said hey Hey, you remember who I am. I was like, yeah, he said I Found out you're a preacher. I Said yeah. Yeah, I guess so He's Like man, I've been having this wake-up call and going through all kinds of stuff He's like, would you want to talk to me about it? Would you talk with me? I was like, of course, and so we met at Starbucks talked for hours and

He just up back and forth on church and he didn't understand any of it he really didn't it was it was real it was a lot of fun because You know, I could say well that's one way to see it But this is how the Bible talks about it. And this is the result of what the Bible Says and what you're saying. Do you see how short-sighted it is? Where is that going to go? So, can you see how if you just give the Bible a chance? It's a it's an opinion. I get it It's even reasonable, but there's another way to see that same thing and Anyway months went by he had every now and then text me and different things like that, but he lives I guess far away I don't know how far away And I get a text this week Then he says hey Marcus just wanted you to know that me and my two children are being baptized At the 8 a.m. Service at Seven Hills I I'm just saying at some point You got to keep thinking about God loves those people and We're to cry out give give verse 9 of that same chapter Proverbs 30 actually says if I get too much I Might deny the Lord and Ask the question who is the Lord? So there is a temptation for a church to get so much That we deny the Lord Revelation has this indictment against one of the seven churches That they're rich have need and we're not that church. Trust me That they're rich have need of nothing and God said because they lost their first love

So the issue is when God gives you more Remember the children of Israel what they what happened God promised him. I'm gonna bring you out I'm gonna raise you up. I'm gonna make your name great This is what I'm gonna do I'm gonna let you be that city on a hill you're gonna be a peculiar people a Holy nation you're gonna be my special treasure Israel He says but make sure you do this Obey me Keep my commands Don't turn and worship idols As Long as you keep this covenant My promise is I'll bless you Of course Israel would get the blessing Start getting a little proud Like we do Start wanting in my way So to his way Don't like the way God's leading me And so they would turn to idolatry and then he had sent a prophet to warn another prophet to warn and another prophet to warn This is what's gonna happen. This is the consequence And eventually that hedge of protection was lifted The children of Israel would be taken back into some form of bondage Not because God didn't love him But because he was never going to allow stuff to take the place of him So we don't cry out give give me We cry out give give to honor him Come on It's to honor him

And As long as it's about him you avoid that temptation because you've not left love The love it's I love him Love the Lord your God with all your heart soul mind and strength and your neighbor as yourself I love him and it's impossible to not keep loving people Amen The average the average church Dies declines and dies at age 14 So Statistically, we've got great studies. This is what happened. The church is born It's desperate at the beginning. Give us children lest we die and Then a little bit further down the road Starts to think we've arrived and from age 14 on Churches historically died You say well, what do we do about that Marcus because I don't know about you. I don't want to die We just do the same thing that all the women do at age 29 They don't have any more birthdays Right, so at age 13 we stop having birthdays Do you hear what I'm saying? Let's stay young stay hungry stay vibrant Keep thinking like we did in the early days and if you aren't here in the early days We had one thing going for us. We were hungry We were crying give give and I just came today to share with this church Let's never lose that Let's never say enough To God be the glory for all the things he has done Amen
