Looking Back on Your Day with God: The Examen (Psalm 139) | Evening Meditations

quiet room to pray. Take one slow breath in and let it out. Psalm 139 verses 23 and 24. "Search me, God, and know my heart. Test me, and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting." Tonight is an examine. It's an honest look back over your day with God right next to you. It's a trial, not a score, four short questions. First, where was God in your day? Maybe it was small, a kind word, a decent meal, a letter, a minute where nobody needed anything from you. Take a moment and find one. Second, where did you pull away today? From God, from someone else, from yourself. Just name it. You don't have to fix it tonight. Third, what are you carrying that you need to put down? A regret, a grudge, a worry. Hand it over. Fourth, what do you need for tomorrow? Not a plan, just the ask. Let's pray. Father, thank you for what went right today. Thank you for getting me through what didn't. I give you the part I'm ashamed of. I give you the people I'm worried about. I'm not cleaning up first. I'm just showing up. Meet me here and lead me tomorrow. Amen. Amen. Rest when you can. You are not forgotten. Amen. Amen.
