Limitless
Ronnie Doss returns with a powerful message about our Limitless God. He works his wonders through our effort, but we can hinder these blessings through a pattern of resentment, resistance, and revenge. The secret to overcoming these patterns and unlocking God’s power in your life is taking personal responsibility and humbling yourself before God.
Hello, hello friend. My name is Kadi and I want to welcome you to Free Life Chapel, where we help you discover and live the free life in Christ. I'm so glad that you decided to tune in with us online today. But hey, whenever you get a chance, come visit us in person. We're located in Central Florida and waiting on you and your family. I'm so glad that you tuned in. Check this message out. Today, I'm going to talk to you about what I believe is a limitless God, a limitless God. Say limitless. Here'd be a question. I posed it this morning. If God were to be limited, what would he be limited by? If you think about that, there's really no answer. It's like God's not limited by anything. God can do anything. The idea, though, for the day, for the premise for today, is that there is a work that we must be willing to do. That we have a chance to do, an opportunity to do, on ourselves so that we can create the space in our lives for the things that we would say that we want. How many of you would say that you've ever been in a pattern, ever had certain behaviors, maybe did certain things, that you knew that God was going to have a hard time blessing you if you continued down that path? How many of you have ever been on a path like that? How many of you feel like you're kind of on a path like that now? Sometimes there's some things that you want to get straight in your life. Come on, how many of you have some things you're still working on? Is anybody in here not working on anything? Anybody in here feel like you have arrived and you are perfect? Because if you have, here's the chair. You get to come speak today. Because listen, we are all a work in progress. Hear me, hear me. Standing up here does not mean that Ronnie Doss is complete. I'm up here, I am still a work in progress. God wants to do things in my life. And so the thing is, is God wants to bless us, and yet there's some things that we need to do or can do to help him to make that possible. If you just get that one idea today, it's that God wants to bless you.
It's just let him do it. Get yourself ready. I've always heard the time to be ready and the time to get ready are not the same time. And so there's some things that we can do today to get us ready. So that when we leave, we can experience more of this limitless God that we're talking about. How many of you would say that's pretty good? If you could leave today and be like, hey, I'm going to experience more of God after I leave today, right? How many of you would say that's pretty good? Really? How many of you would like to go to work and experience more of God's joy, more passion, more peace? Right? That's good. So that's what we're going to talk about today. I'm going to start with two scriptures. Two scriptures. Say two. Two. Two scriptures. First one comes out of the book of Amos. Amos was what was called a minor, he was called a minor prophet or seen as a minor prophet, meaning not his importance or significance, just the amount of text that's in the Bible, how much was recorded and what we have of him. He's a minor prophet compared to someone like Isaiah, Jeremiah. The ones that get lots of space in the Bible. But Amos, very powerful guy, he preached to this northern province of Israel, this region. And Israel was in a time of a lot of prosperity, peace, all this stuff, like things were good. When I learned about Amos, as I felt like I needed to read this and learn more about him, I realized that he was preaching to an area or region that seems a lot like the United States. We got a lot of good things going on. Some people, I mean, come on. Some people are like, oh yeah, yeah, the government. Listen, you can love your country and not love the government. That's okay.
Okay, there's a lot of good things happening around. You think this is a blessed nation? You can pull your phone out, hit Amazon something, drop it on your front porch. You can go anywhere you want. You can get any food you want. You can go do what you want. You can come to church, not come to church. Go to school, not go to school. Right, this is a country, this is an amazing country. We are blessed. It didn't mean we're perfect, but Amos is preaching to Israel, and here's what he says to them. He says, the Lord declares a coming famine on the land, not a famine of bread nor a thirst for water, but the hearing of the word of the Lord. Why this resonated with me, and I felt like I wanted to put this into this message today, is because I feel like my belief, my perspective, and it's just mine, but I do believe it's humble, I do believe it's accurate, and I do believe it's true. Is that humble, accurate, and true? If somebody tells you how humble they are, watch out for them. But my humble and accurate opinion is that we are very much in a time where there is absolutely so much noise that it is so difficult to hear the whisper. what God is trying to tell us. There's so much noise. There's religious voices, political voices, right, educational voices, there's social media influencers, there's podcast people, there's people that post reels, people to put stuff on YouTube. You know, just because somebody has a podcast doesn't mean they have any authority. You know what I mean? You listen. I might challenge some of you guys. Just stop listening to podcasts for a month. All the time you're putting into a podcast, put it into the Word. See what happens. Your life will change. I'm telling you. There's a lot of people talking, right? And it makes it hard sometimes for us to hear what it is that God may be saying to us. And so Amos is saying, hey, there's gonna be a family, but it's not a food, water, and all that stuff. It's gonna be of hearing from God. And so Isaiah, here's the second scripture. Isaiah says this, and Isaiah came along a long time after Amos was around, but here's what Isaiah says in 43 19. Isaiah said, see, I am doing a new thing. Now it springs up. Do you perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. I feel very
connected to this church. I feel like this is my church family. I'm down here a lot. I plan on being down here a lot. My daughter Kennedy was baptized here not too long ago. I love Pastor Scott. We are brothers. We are, it's amazing how sometimes our paths can cross with people. We couldn't have planned it, but God orchestrated it, and it changes the direction of our life. Meeting Pastor Scott, knowing Pastor Cindy, the family, it's changed my life. It's made my life better. Come on, how many of you have had circumstances and situations like that? You've met people. This new thing that Isaiah is talking about, I would challenge you to believe that God can do a new thing in your life even today. One phone call, one email, one text, one encounter, one meeting, one idea, one thing can change your life forever. If you don't believe that, then you may miss what God is trying to show you. How many of you have heard me speak here before? Raise your hand. How many of you love it? Keep your hand up. Do not drop your hand. How many of you really loved it? That's good. I know, thank you very much. Sometimes all you need is one person to go, I love you, and you're like, that's right, I got it. Last time I was here, I was talking, and I was talking a little bit about doing this health journey of getting myself in the right spot. How many of you remember I was talking about that? I talked about going through a detox, getting things out of me that were not serving me, cutting things out of my diet, cutting things out of my regimen. I cut caffeine, cut sugar, cut gluten, cut dairy, cut all the things that can make life feel so good. But how many of you know sometimes the thing that makes you feel good is not good for you? Cut all these things out, going through this unbelievably challenging time. And during that time, I'll show you, I got a picture of my family up here. My wife Jen, if you guys have never seen my family, they're with me a lot here, but if you haven't, that's my daughter Addison beside me. Addison's 16. That's my wife Jen, she's 41. That's Kennedy, she's 11. This is my crew. I can tell you when I went through that time, very difficult, didn't feel good. You know sometimes when you don't feel good, you don't believe people love you. Do you know if you don't feel good, it's hard to see and receive love from other people. You can receive help, but
sometimes you don't receive the love. And so during this difficult time, I go through this, here's my family. I went through this and I really heard God say to me, Ronnie, if you'll walk through this and you'll get this right, I'm gonna bless you. It's gonna be better on the other side. I felt like I walked through hell. And not all the way through yet. I'm gonna show you guys a picture of something that just happened, we just found out about. I'm gonna throw it up here. That's a gender reveal. I'm 50. 5-0. That's right, daddy still got it. Listen, this scripture, I'm going to do a new thing. I want you to hear this for you personally. This is for you and for us as a family. I want you to hear this. God wants to do a new thing in you. Something better than you've ever imagined. And, say and. Not but, that's excluding, like but. No, say and. There's some work you're gonna do and I'm gonna do to bring that to pass. How many of you know sometimes you don't get the reward without doing the work? How many of you know that? This was work for me my wife and I when we talked about having our first child Addison Who's 16 it took one month and my wife was pregnant when Kennedy came along. She's 11. It took two months We talked about she was pregnant. It's been over four years that we talked about maybe maybe another maybe no We even stopped talking about it and then this happens I'm telling you this because I want you to know that God can do something so miraculous in your life and You have to make sure that you don't have his hands tied Because you're not willing to do the thing with your hands that you can do Do you want do you guys hear what I'm saying? And so the big thing here's what I want to give you today I want to give you a quick pattern This is a pattern This is the way a lot of times we show up One of the things that I think that we can do that can keep God from blessing us the way that he wants to Yes, God God can do anything he wants, but sometimes I believe that God is not Waiting on the ability to do it What God is waiting on is our willingness to do what we need to do for him to do
And so this is for us as a family. And so I want to give you three things that are a quick pattern I talk about these corporately. I'll talk to you about them today I'm gonna give you three things that are a pattern that you might see that you fall into and then I'm gonna give you two Quick solutions because I don't leave you out there and you're like man It's really this was a this was not a very inspiring message leave you thinking about the problem I want to give you solution fair enough I'm gonna talk to you about this pattern. The pattern starts very simply with something that I call resentment One of the ways that you can start to spiral out of control is To begin to resent something that you see that you think shouldn't be the way that it is Resentment How many of you have ever carried resentment? Come on, raise your hand. How many of you look how many of you are still carrying some resentment? You can be resentful towards parents. You can be resentful toward boss. You can be resentful toward friends family You can be resentful toward God. You can be resentful toward yourself Resentment, it's the first beginning parts of a pattern that can block blessings in your life Resentment say resentment. Let me tell you a couple things about resentment. Can I tell you a few things about resentment? Here's a few things about resentment resentment Resentment is simply a poison That pretends to be protection If you are resentful it's poisoning you but you're tricking yourself into believing that it's protection Do you guys hear that When you are resentful When you carry anger Your brain is telling you that that's the way that you control the situation That if I become resentful That's something I can control And what happens is is we think that we're in control, but the truth is is when we become resentful That's when we lose control We lose control of our emotions we can lose control of our vision Have you ever been so angry that your vision got blurry you ever had you ever been so mad at someone? It's like you couldn't see straight
Resentment can do that to you. If you're not careful, you'll see something that you think is not right and you'll get resentful Okay, you guys with me. This is the beginning of the pattern How many of you have fallen into some patterns before this is the beginning of a pattern that can keep God from blessing us They can keep God from blessing us. We become resentful. Let me tell you something else about resentment. Resentment is the beginning of what I call rot Resentment is the beginning of rot Meaning you stay resentful. It will rot your joy It'll rot your peace. It'll rot your vision. It can rot your passion It can wrap rot your creativity. A lot of people are so angry fighting a fight They have no creative energy left to go and create something new and do better Some people many people many of us let's say Stay resentful our whole life And we don't even know it You can be mad about something that didn't happen for you two decades ago And you carry it with you a lot of times people think that resentment is like this really heavy thing It's like oh, I'm so resentful. It's like no. No, it's a subtle subtle energy you can carry Because there's something in your life that didn't go the way you thought you wanted it to go My husband didn't act right My wife didn't act right. My kids don't act right. They never act right. Nothing's right God didn't bless me. My parents don't love me. They didn't give me the promotion It didn't whatever and guess what happened you take the resentment you put it in a flask you stick it inside your pocket You carry it around. And all the time, when it looks like things can get a little stressful, you sip on a little more resentment. And the next thing you know, you're drunk with anger. This is what happens. Resentment. How many of you have fallen into resentment before? Raise your hand. Right. It's the beginning of a pattern.
Here's what happens. You go from resentment into this second part. If you're taking notes, here's how this goes. You go from resentment into something called resistance. Say resistance. Resistance. I'm going to tell you a little bit about what resistance is. Resistance is simply when you start putting up walls or distancing yourself from the thing that you think disappointed you. You just start putting up walls. Now hear me. Some people hear this and go, Ronnie, are you saying that I should still be hanging around this thing that keeps disappointing me or keeps hurting me? No. But what you need to understand is, is that if you stay in a place of resistance, you will look at everything in your life through a lens called it should be. Should be. And it should be this way. No, no, no. You don't know how people should be. What you know is how God has told you, you should be. And if you listen to how you should be, you start to learn to love without the judgment of how everybody else should be. Let me give you this. Here's a key indicator, a key indicator that you're in resistance in your life. You ready? Can I tell you how you'll know you're in resistance? How many of you think you're in resistance sometimes to people? You ready? Here's a key indicator that you will know that you are in resistance.
If you're using the word should, you ready, I'm going to pull the chair over here so we can talk. You go to the family reunion. My cousins should act right. They should be doing this. My parents should have raised me that way. My boss should do this. My coworkers should do that. They should. And what happens is you put an energy out there. It's this filter you look at the world through that you are not okay with it. And from that, you put all this energy into it and thus you react to it instead of be creative with it. You know, you can walk around and be creative without hating on everything you look at. Do you understand what I mean by that? Is if you're talking about your in-laws, you're talking about your peer group, you're talking about people you work with and like they should, they should, they should. It's an indicator that you are in resistance. It doesn't mean you're wrong. It's just an indicator that there's an energy coming from you called resistance. Can I tell you a little bit about resistance? Yes. And how many of you would say you've gone into resistance before? Come on. Can I give you a few examples of resistance? You're in resistance when it takes you a lot longer to return a phone call that you used to would have returned very quickly. You're in resistance when you start giving someone the cold shoulder a little bit. You're in resistance when you stop sharing ideas in a certain way. You're in resistance.
You start talking negatively of yourself, you're in resistance to how you are, where you were born, education, resistance. You start putting the space between you and the thing and now you're disconnected. Resistance is a very tricky thing. I want to tell you a few things about resistance. First thing, resistance is resentment with its shoes on. What do you mean by that? Well, if you can imagine resentment, that energy putting its shoes on to go into action, the first step of action from resentment is resistance. If I'm resentful towards you and I put those shoes on like I'm going to do something, the first sign is I'm starting to push myself away from you. Why? Because I'm in resentment. Now it's in action. Now it goes to resistance. This is where now I've put up some walls. Now we're not talking the way that we used to talk. Now we're not communicating the way we used to communicate. It used to be, you ready for this one? It used to be when I'd see you and leave, it was like, all right, love you, man. Love you. Now it's like, all right, little subtle changes. You got to be willing to be mature enough to go, you know what? I'm in resistance here. I might need to back it off a little bit so that God can work on my heart a bit and let me see through lenses that are clear, not ones that are marred with this resentment and this resistant thing. Resistance, I'm telling you, we're in it. Some people live their whole life in resistance. Nothing, you ready?
Nothing's ever right. Sometimes we're in resistance to being willing to apologize. I ask you a question. When's the last time you looked at somebody and said, hey, I'm sorry? Some people go their whole life and never say, I'm sorry. You know what? I misspoke. I didn't do that right. Maybe I did something that I shouldn't have done. You know what? I apologize. You can be so in resistance that you distance yourself from behavior. That you've done that have wounded people and you're in resistance to being able to say, I'm sorry Resistance will trick you into thinking that you're numb to things that you really do need to be facing resistance is tricky Here's another thing resistance is not about healing resistance is about hiding I Want to heal how many of you have some wounds in your life if you don't confront them and And let God help you see them differently than how you've been seeing them You'll just keep scratching at those wounds time and time again And you'll keep circling the mountain feeling the same way having the same attitude and the same energy if you stay in resistance to it Resistance is not about healing. It's about hiding and here's the last thing on resistance resistance isn't about protecting you Resistance is about imprisoning you You stay in resistance you stay in a prison if you won't face it don't expect it to get better So I'm resentful. I'm frustrated now. I don't talk now. I distance myself I isolate myself and guess what now? I'm over here all by myself telling myself that nobody understands me Nobody cares about me. I got no friends. Let me tell you something if you have no friends I'm telling you other people aren't the problem I'm sorry listen if you if your mojo let me smile If your mojo is to think nobody gets me nobody understands me no one understands other people aren't the problem
Maybe it's that you're in resistance to Addressing this thing called resentment that you're carrying around with you thinking that it's a part of you. It's not You can break that chain God can heal that wound But you can't stay in resistance to it. I don't even look at that. I don't know it. It's called willful blindness. I Don't even want to look at it There's this thing going on in my marriage. We ain't even gonna talk about it I've said it many times before you keep sweeping it under the rug eventually you're gonna trip over it So you might as well face it Resistance to what oh, I ain't going to the doctor I don't even want to know no go to the doctor you need to know Here's the third thing. I said I'd give you three. This is the pattern and this is what locks it down You start out with resentment it goes to resistance, and then it turns into the third thing and that's called revenge He's got a good one I might build it in next time he said regret I Regret to tell you that that's not in the message, but that's good Don't take revenge on me Don't resist what I'm saying and please don't be resentful It turns into revenge here's what revenge is let me tell you what revenge is I'll give you a definition This is how I was taught. I've mentioned this many times before but we go into it Revenge is when you attempt to get even or settle the score which means They gossiped about me so now I gossip about them Didn't get the promotion at the job so now I no longer show up to meetings excited, and I don't bring good ideas Revenge could be that I didn't hit a certain goal before I tried I'm frustrated with myself So now I'm not even going to try again One of the forms of revenge that I believe that we all could look at Would be whether or not we're actually going after our goals and our dreams You say well, how so Ronnie well if you think it's taken God too long to bless you in a certain area Can I just tell you that maybe God didn't bless you because you weren't ready When God blesses you with something that you're not ready for it's not a blessing
You're not blessed by what you get You're blessed by what you have the capacity to keep And so sometimes we haven't gotten something because we ourselves were not ready and So revenge sometimes is going God Why don't you give this to me sooner? I should have gotten this and so as a result of me not getting it sooner. I'm gonna stop making the effort now it's a form of revenge Revenge is subtle Say it's subtle Some people think that revenge is doing something crazy like sitting somebody's house on fire I'm serious Some of you think that revenge is taking a baseball bat and busting somebody's windows out of the car So I think revenge is going to slashing people's tires Listen, it's not that we're not doing that. We wouldn't do that. But you know what we will do We will start whispering about somebody We might not stab them, not with a knife, but we'll stab them with our words. We'll be passive-aggressive with them. Make comments at them. Oh, you know you always do that, but that's cool. You know the pat-pat-slap? You guys know what that is? Oh yeah, you're great, we appreciate that, but you remember that time you did, always reminding you of what you did before? It's these subtle little jabs. I'm going to tell you, this is me, this is how I am in my house. I don't want to talk to people that talk ugly about other people, because I know that if they will talk ugly about them, they will talk ugly about me. And let me tell you all, now listen, please don't clap, please don't clap, stop, stop. If they talk ugly about other people, they're going to talk ugly about me.
You have to be careful about who you let talk to you about you. Because if you let other people keep chirping in your ear this negative stuff all the time, even if it's family, because family can be so familiar to us. Pastor Kayla was talking about chosen family, right? Your blood relatives, and then your chosen relatives, right? All that. Like, you got to be careful who you let talk to you about you. If you start talking things about me that do not agree with what God has spoken to me about me and the dream and the vision that I have, you're not going to have much proximity to me at all. I can love you from a distance. But if I keep around you and I let you keep pouring this toxic stuff into me, then you know what I'm going to do? I'm going to take that hate-filled resentment stuff and I'm going to go spew it on somebody else. And I believe people deserve a better version than that. And so, am I protective? Yes. Because you know what? I'm human. I'm human. I can be as ugly as anybody else. I can be as sharp as anybody else. I can lose my temper as anyone else. But I'm telling you, when I notice the pattern and say, hey God, I'm starting to feel this, what's the new thing that you can do? The two ways out of it. How many of you say you've been in that pattern before? Resentment, resistance, revenge. Raise your hand really high.
Come on. How many of you think you should break that pattern or could break that pattern and do better? Yes. I'm going to give you two quick solutions to that. If you notice you're in that pattern, the first thing you do is you say, I'm taking personal responsibility. I'm going to tell you what that means. Personal responsibility means that you say this. This is the phrase of personal responsibility. This one's, this one's tough. This might be the hardest pill to swallow that we can swallow as humans. Personal responsibility means that I say this, I am at cause for my experience. I am at cause for my experience. This traffic makes me so mad. Traffic doesn't make you mad. You're the traffic. Tell me I'm wrong. If you're in traffic, you're part of the traffic. You're the traffic to someone else. You are not making them mad and they are not making you mad. You are choosing mad based on what you tell yourself while you are sitting in traffic. That is you being at cause for your experience. Your boss didn't make you mad. You make you mad because of what you tell yourself about what your boss may or may not have said. Do you guys get what I'm saying? And if I am at cause for my experience when I'm frustrated, if I'm at cause, can I not shift what I'm telling myself about this thing that I'm saying is frustrating me and create a completely different narrative about it?
Could I do that? Could I? Should I? Unless I just like being angry. And that's not my mojo. No matter what you look at, when you take personal responsibility, you realize that it's you that's creating the narrative. It's you that's making up the story. It's you that have this thing going on in your mind that's drama. It's you. Not blame, but responsibility. Blame and responsibility aren't the same thing. But when you say I'm taking personal responsibility, I'm gonna stop pointing the finger at that and I'm gonna start going, what needs to happen inside of me? When you do that, you become powerful. When you do that, you take your power back. When you do that, God can do a new thing in you. And here's the last thing that I'm gonna challenge you to do. If you notice you're in the pattern, you say, hey, I'm gonna take personal responsibility, you're gonna do the last thing. I told you I'd give you two solutions the third thing that I would the last thing I'll challenge you to do is to repent Why I'm gonna read a scripture to you comes out of 2nd Chronicles. Here's how it goes 2nd Chronicles 714 and I'm done It says if my people Who are called by my name? Will humble themselves Say humble If they will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways Then I will hear from heaven and I will forgive their sin and I will heal their land When you notice you're in the pattern I'm starting to resent this. No, no. No, I'm not going down that path
Starting to resent this. Oh, no. No. No now I'm starting to see that I'm in resistance not gonna do that No, no, no. No, I'm starting to want to take some revenge. I'm starting to want to clap back at someone I'm starting to want to do the very thing that hurt me. I'm trying to do it to someone else. No, no No, I'm not doing that. I'm gonna take personal responsibility for where I'm at. I'm gonna be a choice And you know what? I'm gonna do. I'm gonna seek God and I'm gonna pray and What this word says is if you will humble yourself Which means maybe you don't know yourself as well as you think you do Being humble means that you're open to change You're open to learning. You're open to new things if My people will humble themselves and pray I'm gonna say this last thing and I'm done It's a great theologian that got asked one time. They said Tell us about your prayer life He said well, I don't pray very long He said well, I don't pray very long They say you don't pray very long. He said nope. I don't pray very long. He said but I never go more than five minutes without praying Ultimately what he was saying is I don't pray for more than five minutes But I don't go more than five minutes without praying You know that anytime during the day you can start to feel those things coming up in you and go. Oh, this is a pattern It's trying to kick in my old emotional memory is trying to kick on and you know what? I'm stopping that right now I'm taking personal responsibility for this father. Forgive me for this. Give me a vision. Let me see what's possible Lord I want to do a new thing. I want to experience a new thing. I'm not letting this thing keep a hold on me anymore Today is the day that you can change if you won't renew your mind if you won't lean in again If you won't give God a chance today, then today doesn't even matter God's doing a new thing in us He wants to do a new thing in you And I'm gonna say this last thing It doesn't matter what your family's doing You can be the one that Breaks the chain of the dysfunction and the anger the resentment the patterns
You can be the one that changes that so don't look at them and get resentful Don't look at them and say they should don't look at them and go into revenge You know what you do you renew your mind you become responsible you repent and pray and I'm telling you God will do new things In your life and he will show you just how limitless he is He has more for you than you have ever imagined. Let today be the day that it begins. Amen Amen, let me pray for us really quick. You guys stand up and pastor Caleb's gonna come up I'm gonna pray for us to seal this down. Was this good today? Was this okay? Father thank you so much for today. Thank you for this word. Thank you for the ears to hear Thank you God for your spirit The God that we are not gonna beat ourselves up though. We might feel convicted God We're gonna be committed We're gonna do things different as we move forward The God we're not going to think in limitation anymore. We are going to know that just like you love everybody else. You love us God if you bless other people you're gonna bless us There's no big eyes and little use in your world God that you Respect love and care for all of us just the same and God so today I'm just gonna ask that you send your angels ahead of us wherever we go That no matter what it is that we've done God that you'd forgive us That God that you would let us see expand our vision for where it is that you want us to go for what it is That you want us to do and to who it is that you want us to reach for your kingdom God we thank you for all the things we thank you for the disappointments that have redirected us We thank you for the losses that have taught us lessons. We thank you For the knowledge that has become wisdom, we thank you for the chance, God, to go out and do again and again what it is that you're calling us to do. You're a limitless God, God. We thank you. Help us to see that, help us to walk in it.
We're excited for what's going on. Thank you, Lord, for all that you do. In Jesus' name, amen. We hope this message encouraged you. For more encouraging messages, visit our website, freelivechapel.org. Until then, have an awesome day.
