Is Anger A Sin?

Hey, welcome back to ANQ, where we answer big questions that usually lead to even bigger ones. And today's question is no exception. Is anger a sin? Now the short answer, sometimes yes, and sometimes no. Anger can be a sin, but it doesn't always have to be. When we talk about sin here, we mean something that goes against how God wants us to live. Like a lot of things in life, it really depends on the situation. There are legitimate reasons to feel angry. In fact, sometimes anger is the right response. Like when we see injustice or someone being hurt. Even Jesus got angry. But anger can become a problem depending on what we do with it. The Bible gives us such helpful wisdom on how to approach anger. In the ancient book Proverbs, we read that uncontrolled anger leads to conflict and division. It says that a hot temper, it stirs things up and not in a good way. There's another theme that we see in scripture and it calls us to be slow to anger. And that means that they're not not letting anger control us or become the loudest voice in our lives. We're also reminded that every person, every person bears the image of God, which means that they have value and dignity no matter what. And because of that, as far as it depends on us, we're called to live peacefully with others. So if your anger is causing you to dehumanize someone, if it's dominating your thoughts or becoming your default emotion, that's when anger starts to cross the line and descend. But that brings us to a bigger question. What do I do with feelings of anger and bitterness, especially, especially when it feels justified? How do I move forward? How do I let it go? Now, there's one word that I want to come back to in this video. It's one that I come back to in my own life.

Surrender. It's simple to say, but it's so hard to live out. And it might sound religious or abstract, but it's actually super practical. You see, surrendering means being honest about what you're feeling and choosing not to carry it alone. It means admitting you need help. And that's exactly what Jesus invites us to do. So how do you surrender? It might look like praying. It might look like talking to God about your anger. It could mean reaching out to a close friend or maybe a therapist or licensed counselor. It might mean choosing to forgive, even when it's hard. Or maybe just taking a step to make things right. Now, none of that is easy, but the Bible promises that when we bring our anger to God and let him guide us, the result is peace. Not a perfect life, but a deep, steady peace, even when things are messy. Now, I know this answer doesn't tie everything up in a neat little bow. And honestly, how could it? There are a lot of big questions to keep considering, like how do I forgive someone? Maybe someone who really hurt me. Or how do I forgive myself? Or this one, how do I know God even hears me when I pray? Those are great questions, and some of them we've answered in other videos. So check those out.
