Heaven In Your Home [LIVE] 10/11/2026
In this powerful message, Clayton York continues the Heaven on Earth series by exploring what it means to make Jesus the center of your home. Through the story of Mary and Martha in Luke 10, discover how everyday distractions, anxiety, and misplaced priorities can keep Jesus from having the place He deserves in our families. Heaven on Earth doesn’t begin with a perfect family—it begins when we open the door and invite Jesus in.

Hey, before we get into the good stuff, can we just do a sowing, give our brothers at Crossroads and Ozark Correctional, a good morning, love you fellas, excited to do life with you, appreciate you so much. Hey, we just started this brand new series last week called Heaven on Earth. Last week we talked all about what it is like to have Heaven in your heart, you know, wherever the King is, that's where his authority is, and so last week was Heaven in your heart. This week, we're on a topic that I guarantee you will hit every single person in this room because we all live somewhere, and if the King is in your heart, then he should start showing up in the places that you live in your home, and so we're going to talk about Heaven in your home as we dive into week two of Heaven on Earth. But for me, I'm going to tell you something. So one of my favorite things to do, as of recently, is not something that is abnormal to anybody in this place. We've all heard about this, and we've all played this at some point in our lives. One of my favorite things to do is play hide and seek with my four-year-old son.
Anybody ever played hide and seek with a four-year-old before? Yeah. That's a completely different ballgame right there. Because what's fun about it is he'll always come up and he'll say, "Daddy, Daddy, let's play hide and seek." He says, "I hide, you count," and I'm like, "Done, done deal. I will count." And so, of course, I close my eyes, and then I start hearing his footsteps all over the house and you know I got one, two, three. And before I get to 10, this is what's great. Before I even get to 10, I know exactly where he's gonna be hiding. Because he hides in the same spot every single time. Right, so before I even count, I know right where this kid's gonna be. And the best thing about it is, is 100% of the time he is hiding with his back up against the wall in the center of our home. Not hiding anywhere incognito. This dude's right out in the open, right? But I still play the game 'cause I'm dad. And of course, you know, I count to 10 and then I start doing what every father does or what every parent does. So I'm walking around the house and I'm like, ♪ Jaden, Jaden ♪ I'm like, "Mommy, have you seen Jaden?" I don't know where Jaden is. You know what I'm just like?
It's like his back, he's like his sing right here. And I'm just walking around him, right? Where's Jaden? And he's just got that little four-year-old giggle, like, you know? And then more often than not, he says, "I right here, I right here." I'm like, "Let me find you first." It's the best thing in the world. But I always say his name, "Jaden, Jaden." And I love it because to him, it's four-year-old logic. Hide and seek is four-year-old logic. If he can't see me, then I can't see him, right? That's what's going on in his mind. And so I love it because I do know that there will come a day, probably sooner, rather than later, where he's out of my house and I won't know where he is. And so for now, I'm all about it. I'm all four playing hide and seek with my four-year-old son. Jaden, where are you? Hmm, where could Jaden be? And I wonder how many of us in this room this morning are still playing hide and seek with God. Because you and I do the same thing. We hide in the same places, behind the same, dysfunctions and inconsistencies and addictions against the same walls and places that we grew up in. Different circumstances, same hiding spots. And somehow, we convince ourselves that if I can't see God,
then he can't see me. It's four-year-old logic. If I can't see God, then he can't see me. But here's what I love about playing hide and seek with my son, right? So he's hiding against the walls, but I still walk throughout the house. Even though I know where he is, I still walk amongst the house, saying his name, Jaden. Jaden, because even though I know where he is, I still go looking for him. And it's not because he's lost, but it's because he's mine. And I'll never stop looking for him. And perhaps Jesus is in your heart. But he's been calling your name inside your own home, inside your own house for so long, but you've just been hiding behind the same old things. Because if you can't see him, then he can't see you. So last week, we talked about seeing Jesus as king. But if Jesus really is king of your heart, then eventually there should be evidence of his kingdom in your home. Your house should experience it. Your kids should experience it. Your spouse should be the first one to see it within you. The way you fight should look different. The way you forgive should look different. The way you spend should look different. The way you speak to each other should look different.
Because the kingdom of God was never meant to stop at your front door. So the question I ask you this morning is simply this. Is Jesus king of your house, or is he just a guest that's visiting? There's a big difference between being in the center and just being a guest. Y'all if I guess it's over at your house, we do it all the time. A guest gets certain rooms and a guest gets invited in when it's convenient, right? When it's convenient for you. That's when a guest comes over. A guest doesn't rearrange your furniture and a guest doesn't tell you how to run your house. But if we're gonna pair this week's message with last week's message of Jesus being king of your heart, then we have to remember that king has authority. The title of king has authority. And if Jesus is king of your heart, then he must be king of your home. Some of us have welcomed Jesus into our homes without actually surrendering our homes to him. And that's a scary spot to be in y'all. Joshua 24 verse 15. I got this up on the screen for you guys. I love this verse because this verse says, Oh no, it doesn't. It says, "As for me and my house, we shall serve the Lord." Not as for me and me, not as for just my spouse,
not as for just my kids, as for me and my what? As for me and my house, we shall serve the Lord. What he's doing right here is he's drawing a strong line between his entire household. This isn't just something that he's doing, right? That he's saying, "No, as for me and my house." As for me and everybody that's under this roof. As for me and the people that come here, as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. He's saying, "This house belongs to the king." And I'm gonna say this line over and over and over and over and over and over again through the entirety of this message. So I want you to write this down if you're not not takers. If you're not not takers, become one this morning and write it down anyways. Here's what it says, when Jesus becomes king of your heart, he should become the center of your home. When Jesus becomes king of your heart, he should become the center of your what? Of your home. So it doesn't matter how old you are or what stage of life you are in, this message is for everybody in this place, okay? This message is for everybody. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. Man, he doesn't not ask for me in my church. Not ask for me on Sundays only. Not ask for me when people are watching. But ask for me in my house, we'll serve the Lord.
So what does it look like for Jesus to be the center of your home? That's what I wanna talk about this morning. And boy, I hope you came ready because I promise you, if you let the spirit speak to your heart and tap into areas that maybe you've been hiding behind or covering up for so long, you will leave here different thing you walked in, okay? I promise that will happen. So we're gonna dive into what this looks like. What happens when the king enters your home? What gets exposed when he's actually inside of your home? Well, I'm glad you asked. So let's talk about it. But before we get there, we're gonna be in Luke chapter 10. Luke chapter what? Luke chapter 10, if you got your Bibles, open your Bibles, you got your iPhones, open up the Bible app. If you got an Android, do me a favor and just put it on the ground and kick it under the seat in front of you. (congregation laughing) I'm just kidding. Dang, I got some heavy booze on that one. (congregation laughing) Well, that was wild. I'm just kidding.
I love androids when I'm not using them. All right. Luke 10, Luke 10, Luke 10. Let's pray. And then we'll dive into the scripture. God, we trust you. Lord, man, would you do it only you can do. God, would you use someone as broken as me to bring clarity to this passage? God, I'm so in need of you this morning. Have your way with us. It's in Jesus' name we pray, Amen. All right, Luke 10, starting in verse 38, says this. Now as they went on their way, Jesus, what's his name? Don't ever get tired of saying that name. As they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. Now this village was called Bethany and it was near Jerusalem. And so not that you really needed to know that information, but I gave it to you just in case you were wondering. So as Jesus entered a village, there was a woman named Martha there that welcomed him into her home. As Jesus entered a village, a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. You ever stand outside the door when you're awaiting company because you're just so excited for who's about to visit. You're like, maybe it's someone you haven't seen in a long time or maybe it's a family member or a friend that you haven't seen in 15, 20 years. And you don't just wait inside the house, right?
You're like, oh my gosh, you're checking ETAs and when are you gonna show up? How long is it gonna be before you get here? And when they're close, you're not waiting inside the house. You're like on the front porch or in the driveway, just excited about who's about to arrive at your house. It's that eager excitement. I see it right here in the story, right? That's what I believe Martha's doing right now because it says Martha was awaiting the arrival of Jesus. And so I picture her just like outside the front door, like pacing back and forth, like he's almost here, like Jesus is coming. Mary, Jesus is coming. Jesus is on his way to our house. It's our house he's coming in. And then when she sees him, she just gets super, super excited and she's like, Mary, he's here. He's here, sir, come on in. Jesus, please, come on in. That's what I picture happening right here. She's so excited about the arrival of Jesus at her house, goes on to say, Martha had a sister called Mary who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted by much serving. And right when he steps inside of her house, she zooms past this dude and goes straight to doing everything else. Cooking, cleaning, serving. Martha got so excited to see him that she greeted him at the door and then went straight to serving and preparing. And unfortunately, that's me. That's where I get caught. I love having company
over in my house. And if you've ever been in my house, you'll understand what I'm talking about, but I love having people over. I get the whole house ready for them. I spend hours and hours and hours vacuuming the same spot over and over again, just so that it looks good. And then when they get there, I'm like, "Please come in. Please make yourselves at home." But while the people are there, more often than not, I'm running around the house, making sure there's no trash on the floor, making sure the vacuum is still working properly, making sure the food is hot in the oven, making sure everyone else is comfortable around me, all the while missing who's right in front of me. Because I just get distracted. And I wonder if that's you as well. Martha was distracted with much serving. And then it says, and she went up to him and said, okay, I'm going to pause right there just for a second. First of all, she loves Jesus into her house. And now she's serving and she's cleaning and she's cooking and she's preparing and doing all this stuff. And I believe, even though we can't hear tone through scripture, I believe Martha had an attitude prologue right here, right? Because she gets frustrated and mad and she's distracted by many things. And then she comes up to Jesus and I can just hear her, I can just hear her saying this. It'll happen on the screen, but she says, she doesn't say, Lord, do you care? No. No, Martha had a problem. She was like, oh, Lord, do you even care? Do you care? Tell her to, would you tell her to come help me? Right? Because she's doing everything around the house. So she has this issue. It says, Lord, do you even care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Can you tell her? Oh, so first she lets him into the house and now she's demanding stuff of him. Can you tell her to come help me? Did you know that it is possible to welcome Jesus into your home without making him the center of it? I feel like Martha and Mary both awaiting his arrival were in awe of what was about to happen. So once Jesus approached, Martha welcomed him in and then rushed straight to get everything ready to prepare, to serve, to clean. She rushed to the kitchen and Mary stayed right by Jesus. Now these are two women. You have to understand that these are two women that they're not unfamiliar with Jesus. They walked with him. They followed him. They served him for a while. In fact, Scripture tells us that Jesus loved these women, Martha and Mary. And in order to love someone, you got to have a close relationship with someone. It says Jesus loved them. So there was a tight knit relationship that we see between Jesus and Martha and Mary. He loved them. And maybe, maybe you can find yourself right here. What do you mean? Oh, well, maybe you have a Christian home. Maybe you do have
a Christian house and maybe you do serve at the church and maybe you do raise your kids around Jesus. You pray before dinner. You got Scripture plastered all over your walls and on your coffee mugs. You get up in the morning. It's a great day with Jesus. Right? Maybe that's maybe that is you. Yet you still allow your home to become so consumed with activity, schedules, sports, work, achievement, phones, stress, maintaining appearances that Jesus actually isn't the center. He's just a guest. So Mary is sitting and Martha is serving. Mary is sitting and Martha is serving. And this is when Jesus says something very fascinating that I don't want you to miss. He says something very fascinating after she asks him or tells him, did it tell her to help me? This is Jesus' response. But the Lord answered her, Martha, Martha. but one thing, how many things? But one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her. Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Don't miss what Jesus is saying here. He's saying, Martha, Martha, there are many things competing for your attention. I get it, I understand there's so many of these things, but only one thing is worthy to be at the center of your attention. And maybe that's not just Martha's problem. Maybe that's ours also. Maybe that's yours and mine. Now, don't get me wrong. She still had Jesus in the house, right? Yet something else had her attention. Oh, she still welcomed him in to her home. He was still in the house, but something else had her attention.
It is possible for us to have Jesus in our homes without making him the center of it, without making him king of our home. She had him in the home. Y'all catch the drip? You get what I'm saying? She had him inside the home. And if Jesus really is king, his authority should stretch beyond the walls of 5460, Blue Ridge Cut-Off. Okay, so if Jesus really is king of your heart and he is king of your home, then that doesn't mean he's just king here on Sunday mornings. That means that when you walk out of these doors, king should be in your car and king should be all over your house when you get there. It is not just here that Jesus is king. And so we look at this passage and this is where it gets uncomfortable, okay? Ooh, I hope y'all are ready to get a little bit on comfy. This is where it gets uncomfortable. She was distracted by, what did I say? Many things. How many things? Many things. Now, she was distracted by many things. Wait, what? Well, pastor, I get him in like she was cooking and cleaning and serving and many things.
I ain't got many things, pastor. What many things I got? Because he still is the center of my home. Okay, if you don't have the same problems or things that we're seeing in Scripture with Martha, let me, let's talk about them for a second. Can we do that? Okay, here's what I mean. Many things. Well, it's easy, it's easy for you and I to lift our voices to the king on Sunday, but then raise your voice at your family on Monday. Why do we do that? Well, he may be king of your worship, but is he king of your home? You want your kids to surrender their lives to Jesus while watching, well, they're watching you to refuse to surrender yours. You want God to protect your marriage, but you keep entertaining messages and texts and relationships, you'd never let your spouse see. You want your children to know Jesus as father, but what picture of him are they getting, by the way, you father them. You want your marriage to be blessed by Jesus, but do you allow Jesus to tell you how to treat your spouse? And then there's this one, y'all, there's this one. You might be saying, man, claim that amen. Many things, boy, you ain't hitting none of mine. What about this one?
You want heaven in your home while pride is making it hell for everyone living there. If Jesus is only king when everyone in your house is behaving the way you want, perhaps he ain't king. You are. And if that's not enough, you're like, many things. Yeah, we get to claim many things. Let me add a couple more. Let's just do that, okay? Your family knows why you can't stand the opposing political party. They hear about it all the time, what you dislike about it. But do they know what you love about Jesus? Okay, you want your teenager to put their phone down and stop scrolling, but your spouse has been asking you for years to put yours down. What about cheering and screaming louder from the sidelines at your kids' ball games than you ever did praying beside their bed? And then when they grow up, they wonder, you wonder why they believed in sports more than they did in Jesus. What picture are your kids getting from what's going on inside of your home? It's another thing to take the King home with you. Martha had her distractions. We have ours. Your families shouldn't have to come to church to experience the Jesus you claim lives inside of you. Let me say that one more time for the people upstairs.
Your families should not have to come to church for them to see that Jesus you claim lives inside of you. Are you just claiming it or is it a statement? Because if it's a statement, it's factual, who are you representing at home? They should be able to see him in the way you move, live, breathe, parent. Because when Jesus becomes King of your heart, he should become the center of your home. The truest form and test of whether Jesus is King of your heart isn't how you worship him in this room. It's how you represent him to the people who live under your roof. Come on, yeah, you can clap for that. Somebody all ain't clapping because that might be you. But what I love is that even though we have our distractions, we have our many things. Can you see what I'm seeing? Can you read what I'm reading? Even though we've got our things and Martha had heard things, Jesus is still standing in the house saying, Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled. He's saying, Martha, you're trying to fix everyone else. You're blaming your parents, you're worried about your kids, you're angry with your spouse. You're carrying wounds from 20 years ago. But one thing is necessary that you put me back at the center. Martha gave Jesus just a place in her home. Mary made him the center. Big difference between place and center.
I think for a lot of us far too often, we say we want Jesus to be the center of our homes, but it's just the movement of the mouth instead of in action. Martha said it with her mouth. Mary showed it by what she was doing. Mary was sitting at the feet of Jesus. So let's jump back into the passage because I want to show you some very specific, because now is where I truly believe the concept of heaven in your home will reach reality for a lot of us in this room. And we've already said it multiple times. We've been hitting this over and over and over again. You've heard it over and over and over again this morning. But maybe you've missed it. Look at verse 41 again, Luke 10, verse 41. But the Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha, you're anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary." Jaden, Jaden... You know, and I still say his name, even though I know where he is, Jaden. Oh, there you are. I found you. Right? Jesus wasn't saying Martha's name because he couldn't find her. But because he loved her enough to come after her, even while she was distracted. It wasn't because she was lost, it was because she was his.
And this isn't the only time or instance we see Jesus speaking in this type of subtle, soft, yet addressing tone. This isn't the first double name we see in scripture. This isn't the first Martha, Martha. In fact, in Luke 22, as Jesus predicts the moment that Peter would deny him, he says this, Simon. Simon, look out. And if we go back to last week, remember the story is Saul on the road to Damascus when Jesus dropped right in front of him? Before his name was changed to Paul, Jesus says, "Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?" And here we see him saying, "Martha, Martha." It's the ever-so-subtle undertone and whisper of a name from the one that makes even the darkness tremble. Can you see it? Can you hear it? I don't want us to miss how Jesus responds to her. He doesn't walk out of the house after she's so worried about other things. He doesn't just piece out and say, "Well, Martha, clearly you don't understand what's going on here. See you later." No, he doesn't do any of that stuff. He looks at her and in his sovereignty is fully God, yet fully man. As Martha approaches Jesus with her concerns and worries and frustrations, you can almost hear his tone through the pages as he looks at her and ever so gently says, "Martha, Martha, you're so worried and you're so anxious." Last week, this is still new for me. Remember, my wife and I just moved back here from Phoenix and we have about one storm every three years and so being in a place again where it rains constantly and I don't know when the sun is going to be shining, it's frustrating, okay, and so I'm trying to get used to it but last week we had a lot of rain storms and thunderstorms and lightning and I was like, "Oh yeah, I forgot. This is what weather is like. Welcome to Kansas City." And so we were downstairs, my wife and I were downstairs and it just started raining really hard
out of nowhere and then of course after it rains really hard then all of a sudden the sky starts lighting up and there's lightning everywhere and then all of a sudden the thunder is just cracking super loud, right? It's the type of thunder that makes the car alarms go off and Jayden is upstairs sleeping in his bed this whole time until the thunder starts happening, right? And then my wife and I hear him just crying and wailing and he's sitting up in his bed and he's just saying through the little camera he's saying, "I'm scared, I'm scared, thunder." And so what did I do? Of course, I went up to his room and I picked him up and I looked at him and I said, "Suck it up, bro, it's thunder." No, of course I didn't do that. Somebody all judged me real hard there for a second, didn't you? You're glad I continued with that story. Of course, I didn't say that I picked him up and I looked at him and I said, "Jayden, it's all good, man. You're good. Daddy's here. Mommy's here. You want to come downstairs and sit with us for a little bit?" And he said, "Yeah, yeah." I looked at him and I said, "Jayden." I said, "Dad's here." And it was the voice of his father saying his name that took his attention away from the noises outside. And in that moment, it didn't matter what was happening around him when he saw who was directly in front of him. And I say that and I can't help but wonder how many times Jesus has been saying your name, but you've been too distracted to hear him with everything else around you, too, busy building the life, raising the kids, fixing the marriage, making the money. Have you been so busy serving with the mundane and minuscule that in the grand scheme of life, you've lost sign of who's been right in front of you the whole time saying, "Son, my daughter, you're so worried and so anxious about all these other things." But one thing, "Don't miss this. Please, please, please, please don't miss what I'm saying right here." You know, I beclayton, like, past him. And I get it, bro, like, but this is Martha. She had her many things. And she was distracted. Yeah, she didn't make Jesus the center of her home in that moment. And you know, she was cooking and cleaning and serving. And why does that matter to me? That ain't my many things. What does this have to do with me? She didn't put in first, like, Mary did know. And honestly, Clayton, you might be saying, "Honestly, Clayton, I hear this story. You don't know what's going on in my life. You don't get where I'm coming from. You don't know what I walked into these doors with this morning. You might be saying, Clayton, you don't get it, bro. I am a single mother who's trying to raise two kids of her own because my husband walked out on me years ago and I'm just trying to figure
it out. You might be saying, but pastor, like, the pressure at work is killing me. And the only place I want to go to after work is home. But when I get home, it doesn't feel like heaven. It's just disoriented. And I can't figure out what home even feels like anymore. Pastor, you don't get it. Standing up there on stage, talking to us about all this stuff. You don't get it. Maybe there's so much going on in your life. Can I pause for a second to remind you that although Martha may have momentarily lost sight of Jesus, Jesus never lost sight of Martha? Although Martha lost sight of him. No she wasn't sitting at his feet, but he was still calling her name. No, she wasn't giving him her attention, but she still had his attention. She may have been distracted from his presence, but he was not distracted from her. And maybe Graceway Church, maybe this is where Grace from this story steps into play. The fact that he still calls the name of the person who has put everything else besides him at the center, yet still invites them back in. And maybe you're sitting there this morning thinking, "Jesus is just condemning me for everything that I've done in my life. I don't understand it. Maybe you think he's condemning you for not making him the center of your home, but he's not condemning you. He's reminding you that although you are distracted, worried and carrying things, he never asked you to carry in the first place. He's not condemning you or shaming you. He's not standing at the door ready to leave because you've got your priorities mixed up because he's calling your name, and the king who deserves the throne of your heart and your home, he still knows your name regardless of everything else going on in your life. He still knows your name." Mark's lips do you need to hear saying your name more than his? He didn't even forget about you. He's been saying your name for years. So what if heaven in your home doesn't necessarily begin with you trying to build a better Christian
family, but when you finally hear the king calling your name? Because when Jesus becomes king of your heart, he should become the center of your home. Back to Luke chapter 10 verse 41, again, we're going to say this, "Man, I've been hitting this on repeat this morning. You guys know exactly what verse I'm going right back to because I can't get it out of my mind. I don't want to get out of your mind." And so he says this in Luke chapter 10 verse 41, "But the Lord answered her, 'Martha, Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing. How many things? One thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion which will not be taken away from her." Now the thing that makes this story in context so dangerous, yes, I said dangerous, is the fact that Martha wasn't necessarily doing anything wrong, right? Is serving wrong? No. Is cooking wrong? Maybe some of the way y'all do it, but is cleaning wrong? No. None of this is inherently wrong. In fact, she was probably doing what anyone of you and I would be doing in this moment. If Jesus tangibly stepped down onto this earth right now and you could touch him, feel him, see him, and he said, "Hey, guess what? I'm coming to your house today." "What would you be doing?" I'd be like, "Bet, I would be in my car and I would go straight to my house and I would start cleaning and in my house wasn't good enough. I'd go to my neighbor's house whose house is bigger and I'd be like, "I need to use your house because Jesus is coming," right? I would get everything ready for the king because the king is coming to my house and
I can imagine like Martha, like you would be awaiting his arrival too. Out on your doorstep and in your driveway, here he comes, here he comes, "Jesus, it's Jesus. Please, sir, come in." But Mary, Mary wasn't consumed with getting anything ready for Jesus because she just wanted to have Jesus. Martha was so worried and anxious about many things because she wanted it to look good for him. Mary just wanted to be with him. Man, I hope God forgives me for the times that that has been my heart posture. We become so infatuated with trying to prepare the perfect life that we miss the man who's already sitting in the room. Martha thought something still needed to be done. And listen, fam, heaven doesn't start or heaven doesn't look like perfection in your home. It looks like submission in your home. Submitting yourself in your ways to who he is and what he desires. You don't need everything in your house to be right before Jesus can be present. Why? Because his presence is greater than your preparation. There is nothing more that matters than his presence, nothing you can prepare that will ever be good enough. When he just says, I just wanna be with you. His presence is so much greater than our preparation. And Mary understood this, Mary understood this. Martha was preparing a table while Mary was sitting at his feet. Martha was staying busy while Mary just sat.
Martha was making a meal while Mary was making room. Martha was focused on the presentation. Mary was focused on his presence. Martha was worried about what she could do for Jesus. And Mary just wanted to be with him. (gentle music) Grace, why heaven enters your home when the presence of the king becomes the priority of the house. Because when Jesus becomes king of your heart, then he should become the center of your home. And as we close, as we close, in my opinion, in my opinion, the most powerful part of this entire passage and the most powerful verse isn't actually, in fact, but we've been hitting repeat on over and over and over again. As Jesus looks at Martha and says, Martha, Martha, you're so troubled and anxious about many things. No, no, no, no, no. I think it's a little bit deeper than that. And we read it once, but maybe you missed it. I think to me, the most powerful and important part of this passage is found back where we started. If you don't believe me, check this out. Verse 38, now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village and a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. Even though Mary was the one that made him the center, Martha was the one that welcomed him into their home. Yes, Mary was the one sitting at his feet and making him the center of her attention.
Yes, Martha did get distracted and anxious about many things and overwhelmed, but Martha was still the one that opened the door. Don't look past the beauty of the brokenness in this message, Martha didn't get everything right. Martha did not get everything right, but she got the right one in the room. (audience applauding) (gentle music) Heaven in your home does not start with the perfect kids, amazing spouses or clean house. Starts by opening the door and saying, "Jesus, please come in, you're welcome here." In fact, you're not just welcome, would you stay? (gentle music) But clean like my house is a mess. (laughs) Invite him in. But clean like my marriage is really broken right now. Invite him in. But clean like my kids are so far gone, I haven't seen them in years, I don't even know if they're still believers, I just want my, Invite him in. You gotta understand that Jesus never asked Martha to get the house ready before he entered. (gentle music) He entered and then began working on her heart. Some of us just need to let him in the door first.
Then the heart surgery begins. Because when Jesus becomes king of your heart, he should become the center of your home. And I'll leave you with this. Heaven on earth doesn't begin in the White House, it begins in your house. Stop looking for answers that only you can fix. Heaven in your home doesn't begin when you feel like it's show ready. But when you open it up and you let him in, perhaps Heaven touches earth when a father puts down his phone and gets on the floor with his kids again. Maybe Heaven on earth is when a mom decides she's going to pray over her children every single night. Perhaps heaven invades a home when a couple that has kept score for 10 years finally choose us forgiveness. Maybe heaven enters a home when somebody says, Jesus, you don't just get my Sunday. You get my marriage, my parenting, my finances, my schedule, my relationships. You get my home. Because isn't that what we've been praying for? Heaven on earth doesn't start around you. It starts within you. And if it starts within you, it'll start showing up around you. And the first people who should experience it are the people closest to you. So I'm walking around the house, right?
And Jaden is just in plain sight with his back up against the wall. Jaden, Jaden, where are you? He says, I'm right here. Oh, there he is. I found you. And my favorite thing about playing hide and seek with my son is the cutest thing in the world. It's one of the most fun things in the world. But my favorite part is when he looks at me after he's, after I have found him and he says, "Okay, your turn. "I count you hide." And I'm like, all right, we'll give this a shot, kid. And so he starts counting, right? And it's four year old logic, remember? So he starts counting and he's standing in the living room and he starts counting one, and then all of a sudden this, right? He starts doing this and my wife is like, "You're cheating." I'm like, "Yeah, you cheater. "You can't look where I'm going." And so then he closes his eyes when he gets to 10, right? And I hide in the same spot all the time, also, but somehow he just doesn't know it or doesn't, you know, think to look there. I always hide in the closet. I always keep the door cracked slightly in the hallway closet.
So I can hear him running around and see where he's going and everything. But, you know, he counts at 10. He gets, well, kind of counts at 10. It's like one, two, eight, 10, right? I'm like, "Oh, we got four seconds." But I go hide and he says, "Ready or not." Here I come and he starts running around the house and I can hear his little feet all throughout the kitchen and then he makes his way to the hall. And I see him the whole time. I see him the whole time, right? Because the door is slightly cracked and even though I'm in the closet, I've always got eyes on him. Even though I'm in the closet, I still do what I do when he hides. I still call his name, Jaden. (gasps) Jaden. And the best part is when he runs to the closet and he opens it and he finds me. It's like the biggest embrace ever. Because he grabs me and he says, "Daddy, I found you!" As if he's lost something he's been searching for his entire life. And I can play it over and over and over again. (gentle music) Have you let Jesus in to your home? Maybe that is you this morning.
You've let him into your home, but you've tucked him in a closet somewhere. Because let me tell you, even though that might be where you put him, that door is cracked. And even though you're trying to hide behind the same things you've been hiding behind your entire life, the same dysfunctions, the same addictions, the same selfishness and pride and ego, even though that's the case. And he still, he still got eyes on you. And he's still calling your name. Because he loves you, because he cares about you. There is nowhere you can hide but he can't find you. And heaven on earth, heaven in your home begins with you first finding him and saying, "Man, please come, please come in." I'm not hiding anymore. This is about you. My house is built around you. My life is built around you. My kids are built around you. My finances are built around you. My spouse is gonna have a great relationship with me because my relationship is now found in you and not in anything else. To me, that's what heaven in my home looks like. I want more of him. I want him more than I want anything else.
I don't want anything else to take priority over who Jesus is. about Jesus. So yeah, as for me in my house, we'll serve the Lord. Can you say the same thing about yours? Remember, He's calling your name. But will you listen? Because when Jesus becomes king of your heart, He should become the center of your home. Some of us need to go back and change our homes today. And I hope you do that. Because He deserves your attention. Nobody else. Just sit at His feet and stop worrying about all the other things. God, I thank You for, I thank You for this Word. God, I thank You for what we get to learn through Martha and Mary. God, I thank You that that You are who You say You are. That despite my many things and my brokenness, and You still call my name. You still know my name. You still say it. God, would I turn towards You in the moments that I feel like I should turn away or want to turn away? God, would we make our homes and our houses and the places that we live a dwelling place for You God knowing full well that it will change from the inside out and we'll start affecting every other area of our lives? Would we become better parents, better wives, better husbands, fathers, mothers, single life? God, would we make You the center of everything? Or we love You, we praise You. It's in the precious name of Jesus, we pray. Everybody said.
