He Heals the Broken Hearted
In his sermon "He Heals the Broken Hearted", Pastor Jon Norman explored Jesus’s mission to heal those who are grieving, teaching that the root of a broken heart is separation and that every person facing loss must choose between the path of unbelief and the path to the Comforter. He closed with seven simple prayers, including asking God to draw near, to grieve with us, and to bring purpose from our pain, as a practical guide for walking through seasons of grief toward healing.
SING HALLELUJAH THE LIGHT OF JUDAS IS OVERCOME SING HALLELUJAH THE LIGHT OF JUDAS IS OVERCOME I wanted to put a verse up. Our key verse for today comes from Proverbs 4.23, King Solomon, the wisest king who ever lived, said this. Can we read it together? Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. All the issues of this life, in relationships, friendships, marriages, finances, business, kids, all flow from this one place. I talk about it in a book I've just written called The Command Center. The command center of your life is your heart. Write this down, the condition of your heart determines the direction of your life. When your heart goes bad, sour, south, when your heart gets jaded, tainted, it determines the direction of your life. And a few months ago I released my second book called Above All Else. Last year we had a challenging year building church. Who knows that church isn't always easy. It'd be great if it was just a building, but it's full of people. And so we had some challenges in life and family and all sorts of things and so we did a ten week series in church on the command center, the heart. And in the book I talk about a hard heart. Who's ever had a hard heart? Now if you're going to lie anywhere, don't do it in Legacy Church. Who's ever had a hard heart? That's better. Still a couple of people at the back, I've got my eye on you. What about a divided heart? A divided heart, you sort of struggle to make a decision. Anyone thinking, do I marry him or do I marry him? Do I move to that university, do I go to that college? You know, you think about all these decisions and the heart can so easily be divided. And then the enemy is attacking the purity of this generation's heart like never before. And in the book I talk about how the devil likes to take something pure and distorts it, but God takes something that's distorted and makes it pure. And so the heart is such a treasured place, a tender place. And I want us to say this out loud. My heart, say again, my heart is my responsibility. Turn to the person next to you and say, my heart is my responsibility. Turn to your second favourite person on the other side and say, your heart is your responsibility. How often we blame someone else for the condition of our heart. We blame the government, the president. We blame anyone we can. But when our hearts go bad, my heart is my responsibility. So today we're going to take responsibility for our hearts. It's not your employer's fault, your pastor's fault. My heart is my responsibility.
So today I want to tackle a really tricky, difficult chapter in the book because I know you guys can handle it. We're going to go to the gospel of Luke chapter 4. And Jesus is speaking. It says, he came to Nazareth the way he'd been brought up. And as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day and he stood up to read. What did he do? What did he do? So what are we going to do? That's it. Oh, it's like a Mexican wave without Mexico. A bit like the World Cup. Okay. Luke chapter 4. So he came to Nazareth the way he'd been brought up. And as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day and he stood up to read. You're such an obedient class. And he was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written. And we're going to read this together. You ready? Verse 18. The spirit of the Lord is upon me because he has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted. Lord, would you bless the reading and the application of your word. Amen. Now you can take seats. All right. Strap in because I'm told there's some turbulence ahead. Now, if you're an English soccer fan or an Argentinian soccer fan, you're going to need this verse right now. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted. So Jesus back to a 400 year old prophecy. He could have picked many prophecies to announce his mission on earth. Who knows that any good business organization, church, even family should have a mission statement. The mission statement of Soul Church which Chantal and I lead is Christ's love in action. So when people come to say what's your church all about? I say it's all about putting Christ's love into action. We run a supermarket in our church five days a week so when people come for the first time we have people from different faiths, different backgrounds, people agnostic, atheists and they don't like what we preach but they love the food we give out. Okay who knows that Jesus fed the poor natural food before he gave them spiritual food. Before he said I am the bread of life he said here's some lunch. Okay and so Jesus okay he didn't just arrive to earth, he arrived with a mission statement and it's called the Beatitudes, the Sermon on the Mount. Some of you are familiar with this passage and his first mission statement he says hey the Spirit of the Lord God is upon me and he he's anointed me to preach the gospel. Who knows that we're anointed to preach the
gospel. I'm not talking about a microphone I'm talking about our lives. We're anointed, that's our mission is to preach the gospel. Sir Francis of Assisi said preach the gospel all time and if necessary use words. But then Jesus gives seven mission statements but his second mission statement is a little bit left-field. I thought maybe he said I've come to give you money or heal the sick or help you build your new building. He didn't say that. He said I have come to heal the broken-hearted. Jesus' second purpose for coming to earth was to heal the broken-hearted. Do you know every single person in this room and watching online at some point has faced loss, tragedy, disappointment and heartache. And the older I get, I've just turned 28, the older I get I realize, can add 20 to that, but the older I get this is what I realize that life is full of losses and nothing on earth works perfectly. Who likes to have a perfect day, a perfect vacation, a perfect Christmas? Where's all the perfectionists in the room? We're on vacation and we've been planning this perfect trip and it's been amazing but every day something's gone wrong. Do you know why something goes wrong? Because nothing in this broken world is ever going to work perfect until Christ's return. Nothing. And so here's what happens, you then have to deal with the fallout and often the heartbreak of what happens when life doesn't play along. Do you know the hardest part of being a pastor? I know your pastors in this room will feel the same. It's not preaching, it's not fundraising, it's not leading staff, it's not even navigating this crazy culture that we live in. The hardest part of pastoring is watching our church families suffer. And you know if we don't know how to navigate these seasons, these seasons can actually devastate our lives. I'm a faith preacher by birth, I love preaching faith, but here's what I've realized. You can keep preaching faith at people and nothing changes until you get to the heart of the matter in their lives. Because to every fruit in someone's life, whether it's a bad fruit or a good fruit, is a root that's connected to their heart. And so this book has really been challenging because it gets to the root that the heart issues in our lives. And here's the good news, here's the good news. God gives us the tools through his
word to navigate seasons of heartbreak. That's why Jesus said, I have come to heal the broken heart. Do you know what that means? It means whatever devastation or brokenness that you're in right now, God can bring healing. We're going to come on to that. But before we do, I want to ask two questions. The first question is this, what is a broken heart? What was Jesus actually talking about? In the book I describe a broken heart as extreme grief or depression. Extreme grief or depression. Do you know Jesus when he taught on the Mount of Beatitudes was actually addressing mental health and depression in that moment, but the people didn't realize it. Because a broken heart is extreme grief and depression. I describe it, it's like you're dying on the inside. You come to church, we smile, we put on our best, we put our best snaps on TikTok, on Instagram, and we pretend with all the greatest filters in the world that life's going good, but on the inside we're actually dying and we're screaming for somebody to come and help us. Why do people die for death by suicide? it's because they don't know how to keep going. So leaving this life is their only way of escape. My daughter's gonna be here with my wife and family in the next service. My daughter's 14, she's just started high school. One of her close friends in her class died of suicide just a few weeks ago. 14 years old, beautiful girl. We had to navigate, we're still navigating this with our daughter, asking questions of what's happening, why, why would my friend leave this life in that manner? What is a broken heart? It's extreme grief or depression. What's it caused from? I go into the book, in the book I dive a lot deeper, but it's caused from one word.
I want you to write this word down, separation, separation. Whenever you've been separated from a loved one, a job, a family member, a friend, a spouse you loved, do you know, you can even experience a broken heart from money that you've lost. You work your whole life for money and you lose it on a stock, you lose it in a bad deal, and you're separated from it and it causes a broken heart. So separation is what a broken heart really is, is what it's caused from, and here's the deal. I have a prayer today for separation, it's the word healing. I believe that God wants to bring healing where there's been separation in your life. How do I know that? Because David said in Psalm 147 verse three, he says, he heals the broken hearted. It doesn't say he leaves the broken hearted, it says he heals the broken hearted. So I wanna talk, the message he's titled today, he heals the broken hearted, and for the next three and a half hours, I really wanna just unpack this. Hey, you're joking, I grew up in a church that was real. Who knows what I'm talking about? It was three and a half hours, I'll just do two. So my prayer is wherever there has been separation in your life, there will be healing today. And today would either be the continuation or the start of God healing a broken heart.
Now this is, I wanna just use a simple illustration today to help me, help us all understand what happens when our hearts have been broken and there's been separation. Because there are two paths that we can choose, there are two paths that we walk whenever there's been a broken heart. The first path is the path that the enemy wants us to walk. It is the path towards unbelief. Okay, whenever there's been a broken heart, the enemy wants to whisper this, to go on the path of unbelief. It's what you pull back from community, you pull back from church, you pull back from friendships, you pull back from relationships. It's a path towards unbelief, and here's the deal, you ready? The Bible talks about its end is destruction. So the path number one is the path to unbelief. Path number two is the path towards the comforter. It's a long, windy, bumpy road. But its end is freedom and healing. And so whenever we face consequences of broken heart challenges in our jobs, in our workplaces, in our homes, in our families, we have two paths that we can choose. You can either walk towards the comforter, which brings freedom, or you can walk to unbelief, which brings destruction. Now here's the big takeaway, I want you to write this down.
We don't necessarily get to choose what happens to us in life, but we get to choose the path we walk on. Okay, you've all got stories of heartbreak in this room. Why? Because we live in a world that's broken and fallen, so there will be stories in this room. And we do not get to choose what happens to us, but we get to choose the path we walk. As I woke up this morning, my prayer is today, I'm preaching five times today, my prayer is that people are gonna switch paths. We're gonna switch paths, and we're gonna walk towards the comforter, which brings freedom. Matthew 5, verse 4 says this, blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. When your heart is hurt and broken, the enemy is screaming, this is what he's screaming, take the path to unbelief. If God is real, why would he have allowed dot, dot, dot, dot to happen in your life? If God is real, if God is an all-loving, caring, compassionate God, how would he have allowed dot, dot, dot, dot to happen in your life? You fill in the dots. And so what happens, the moment we start going on that path, we are going towards unbelief, which eventually, the Bible says, leads to destruction.
One tragedy. two paths and two different outcomes. We had two families in our church and two set to believers both hit by similar tragedies, both heartbroken, but they chose two different paths. One family is no longer in church serving God and their children want nothing to do with God. The other family is on this path to healing towards the Comforter. It's difficult, but every Sunday they choose to be in God's house. They choose to keep giving. They choose to keep serving. And everything in them is screaming not to, to get on the path to unbelief, but they understand the path leads to destruction and the devil is so subtle. He'll say, just take a week off church. They don't really love you. God's not really real. If he's real, why did he allow dot, dot, dot, dot to happen in your life? And the moment you end up on that path, you end up on a path towards unbelief. Now, I'm not an expert on this subject, even though I've written a book on it. In some ways, I feel unqualified. However, my wife, eight years ago, lost her dad. He was shot dead in a drive-by shooting in Los Angeles. My wife's from California
and he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. And so, as a family, we went through trauma and tragedy. My wife has been through deep, deep trauma. She'll be here at the end of the service, but here's what you'll realize with Chantel. She chose the path towards the comforter. Now, does she have scars? Oh, yeah, she's got scars. Does she have difficult days? Oh, yeah, she still has difficult days. But she is completely free and she's even forgiven the individual who carried out that atrocity. Because the other path is towards unbelief, which is end, is in destruction. Remember, we don't get to choose what happens to us, but we do get to choose the path we walk. And we've walked with many people through tragedy over the years, and here's what we've learned. Here's what I've learned as a local church pastor of 12 years. What people want is sympathy all the time for me, and I will give you a level of sympathy, but here's what I really wanna get. I wanna get you on the right path. Because if we can get you on the right path, we can get you towards healing and freedom in your life. And everything I'm gonna share today in the next three hours is gonna take time.
Okay, it takes time. And Ecclesiastes chapter 15, it says, and I'm gonna share with you what I've learned as a local church pastor of 12 years. And Ecclesiastes chapter three says this. It says, there is a time to weep. There is a time to mourn. So this is not pray it away. Okay, I'm not gonna pray the pain away. The pain is real. But the Holy Spirit can bring comfort in your season of pain. And this is not a process that we rush. So I wanna share with you real quickly seven prayers that we prayed as a family, seven prayers that we can all pray in a season of separation. Whenever there's been separation, I want you to write these seven prayers down. Put them in the bathroom, put them on the cat, put them anywhere. We're gonna see them regularly. Okay, because these are seven prayers that are gonna help you if you're going through heartache or brokenness in your life and on the path to the healer.
Prayer number one. Okay, here we go. Lord, draw me close to you. Amen. Psalm 34, 18. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted. Who knows when you're heartbroken often God feels a million miles away. Just me, is it? I feel like sometimes when I'm heartbroken, I'm like, God, you feel so distant. But what you feel and what is real is different in your life. God is not scared away by your brokenness. He's actually drawn towards it. When I was young, all my friend's parents were buying them like scareletrics and guns and all sorts of fun things. My dad bought me a poem and put it on my wall. But this poem became very personal to me as I grew up. And I still have this poem. It's a treasured memory from my father. It says this. One night I had a dream. I was walking along the beach with the Lord. Scenes from my life flashed across the sky. In each I noticed a set of footprints in the sand. Sometimes there were two sets of footprints.
Other times there were only one. During the low periods of my life, I could see only one set of footprints. So I said, you promised me Lord that you'd always walk with me. Why when I've needed you most, have you not been there for me? The Lord replied, the times when you have only seen one set of footprints. their footprints, my child, is then I carried you. For some of you right now, you're going for a season of heartache and break and separation. And this is a season where God is carrying you and it's only when you look back on this season of your life, you will see the hand of God carrying you. Hebrews 13 five says, I will never leave you and I will never abandon you. God never intended for you to handle pain alone. His plan has always and always will be closeness in a season of heartache. And the Lord is speaking today and he's saying, I am close to you even in the midst of this broken season. Prayer number one, Lord, draw me close to you. Prayer number two, Lord, grieve with me in my brokenness. Who thinks it would be really weird if you are going through a heartache and you called a close friend or family member, hey, can you come over, I've just got, and they get there and they just sit there staring at you. Who thinks that would be really odd?
No, what does someone do when you call them and you need support? They come and they give you a hug, they care for you, they listen, they pray, they support. Do you know, God doesn't just draw close to us in a season of brokenness, he grieves with us. Isaiah 53 three confirms this, he says, he is despised and rejected by man, a man of sorrows, and he is acquainted with our grief. What does acquainted mean? It means he is familiar, he understands our grief. The pain you are feeling right now in that separation from that relationship, he is acquainted, he is familiar with what you're feeling. And the reason that you and I have the ability to grieve is we were made in the image of God. God was, God sent Jesus and he was all God, but he was also all man. What does that mean? He felt what we feel. He shares today in your grief. Do you know when God sees the wars in Iran and the Middle East and Ukraine and in Israel and all the crazy things that are happening in our world, do you know what he does? He grieves. When he sees the Christians in Nigeria being slaughtered this weekend, he grieves. When he sees the famine in Sudan, he grieves. Jesus knew pain even before the cross.
His friend Lazarus has died and he goes to the tomb. You all know the story. The shortest verse in the Bible appears in John 11, 35. It says, Jesus wept. I don't think Jesus wept because Lazarus died, because Jesus is the Alpha and Omega. He knew that he was about to raise him from the dead, but Mary and Martha didn't. And so he gets to the tomb and he sees his close friends weeping. It says, Jesus wept. Jesus was the strongest man who ever lived, yet he wept. It's okay men to cry, by the way. Never tell your kids off for crying and showing emotion. It's a good thing when people show emotion. Jesus wept. If Jesus wept, how much more does he understand when we weep? Do you know, we have a God who understands suffering. He understands suffering. When your heart's been broken, Jesus says, I'm with you in your pain, but I'm not just with you. I grieve with you. Isn't that beautiful to think? He's not just with me right now. He's grieving with me. That's really good. He's with, you know, as you go through that divorce, he's not just with you. We hear it all the time, you know.
He's Emmanuel, God with us. He's not just Emmanuel, he's not just with you. He grieves with you. Sometimes when I'm going for a season of separation, I do that to myself. And I imagine the Father's arms wrapped around me as I go through seasons of challenge. The brokenness you feel in the betrayal, the rejection you feel, he feels it. Lord, grieve with me in my brokenness. Is this helping anyone? Okay, prayer number three, prayer number three. We're gonna jump through these as quick as possible. Prayer number three, Lord, bring me into community. Now, when God brings healing to a broken heart, it rarely starts with answers. God starts, write this down, God starts the healing of a broken heart with a person. I'm not talking about Jesus, I'm talking about a person. Often Jesus is in that person, with a person. God never meant for you and I to go through seasons of a broken heart alone. That's why he gave us his church. He gave us the local church. I want to commend you today for being in church. Can we have a really honest moment? Who woke up today and thought, I could skip? Come on, you're going to lie anywhere. Don't do it here, all right? Okay, we've got some real honest people.
My hand's up as well, all right? Okay, because I have those moments, and I'm a pastor. I'm like, really? People are doing that to their partners. I get it. Write this down. Healing comes through community. This is important. Healing comes through community. Why do you think the enemy tells you on a Sunday, skip church? Why do you think he says, well, the pastor doesn't really see you? Too many cars in the parking lot. I've got to walk an extra hundred yards in the heat. Why does he plant all those seeds of doubt in our mind? I tell you why. Because the enemy knows healing comes through community. Because I have never left church worse than I came in. I'm just telling you, I'm buzzing, Pastor Brian. I'm buzzing being here. Because I get in this atmosphere, and you bring the best out of me. Okay? This ain't a stuffy church. This is a great church. Now, here's what I want to share with you. 25 years in full-time ministry. Here's what I've discovered. I have never met one person in 25 years, I've met tens of thousands of people, I've never met one person in 25 years whose life has moved forward by pulling back from church. So if you think that taking a step back from church is going to catapult your life forward, it's not. You won't be the exception to that rule.
Okay? So here's the thing. Our hearts have been broken. We've been separated from the things, the possessions, the people we love. And here's what the devil says. Stay away. And here's what happens. We start on the path towards unbelief, and its end is destruction. Sometimes we drag ourselves to church. We don't even brush our teeth. Because we don't even want to be here. We get in, and we're like, oh. I'm not even singing my favourite songs. By the way, they weren't for you anyway. Just want to drop that in there. Someone said to me, I don't like that worship song. I said, it's a good job it wasn't for you. It's for God. Worship's not about, it's too loud, too soft. Anyway, we won't get into that. I'll do that one next year. But every time you step through those doors, here's what you do. You join the path to the comforter. Healing comes through community. And we want to rejoice. The Bible says in Romans 12, 15, rejoice with those who rejoice. When you get the promotion at work, when you get accepted to college, we want you to celebrate with you. But I think church has got really good at celebrating, but we haven't actually got good at mourning.
Because the second part of the verse is to mourn. We're like, you go mourning on your own at home. We want to rejoice. The church is actually a place where we get to mourn, lament, say la, be still together, and walk through each other's seasons of pain. Everyone in this church community needs to be in a legacy group. I'm too busy. No one's too busy for a legacy group. No one's too old, too young, too new. Everyone needs to. This needs to be a small church for a lot of people. This church is going to get bigger and bigger and bigger. What does that mean? You've got to get smaller and smaller and smaller. The only way you're going to do that is through small community groups. Jump in a legacy group. Find one in your space and jump in. Because you're going to need it when times of separation come. Prayer number four. Now this is the hardest prayer. This is the most difficult prayer of the seven. Lord, give me courage to surrender my need to understand. Lord, give me courage to surrender my need to understand. You see, for much of life's pain and heartbreak, we never have answers. Where's all the why people? Who loves a why? We teach this all the time, don't we? Give the team the why.
Give your staff the why. You know, the why. I'm a why guy, okay? If my plane got delayed last week in Dallas, I'm like, Why? I want to know why. There better be a good reason. Here's the problem with disappointment and pain and loss and separation. You ready? Very rarely you get the why. And so we search life looking for the why. And most questions of heartbreak... break are unanswered this side of eternity. And here's the problem, when we go on the Y train, the Y path, why did you allow this to happen? Why did that happen? Why did you allow her to leave me? Why did you allow him to do? Where are we going? We're heading towards a path towards destruction. So what do we do when we come into church? We kneel, we lift our hands, and we surrender our need to understand. Though he slay me, Job said, yet will I still trust you. Now this is difficult, because this is a posture of God going, I don't understand the why. And this is where grief can easily turn into unbelief. And it takes an enormous amount of courage to surrender our need to understand. My son was playing in Austin in a soccer tournament
just last week, and my dad died when I was young, and my wife's dad tragically died, as I said, eight years ago, so my kids don't have granddads. I was standing on the side of the field, and I was like, God, why? Who knows it's the greatest joy for your kids, not just to have parents, but to have grandparents. It's just a beautiful thing when granddad's cheering them on. Granddads can seem to be able to do, say things that dads can't say, and they listen. I'm like, that's interesting, I say that every week. Granddad says it once, and I'm standing on the pitch looking at all the other grandparents. Do you know what happened? I just took one little step on the wrong path, and the Holy Spirit said, surrender your need to understand. Do you know, if Jesus surrendered his right to understand, so must I. He said in Luke 22, verse 42, just before he went to the cross, not my will, but your will be done. Wow, surrendered the right to understand. Prayer number five, Lord, help me to draw close to your word. Do you know when our hearts have been broken, the only way to heal is to stay close to the healer. Who knows if you break your leg, you don't need a dentist. Yeah, you hear what I'm saying? Isn't it interesting when our hearts are broken, where do we go?
Broken hearts. Someone else's broken heart can't heal your heart. Brokenness attracts brokenness, but it can't heal you. Do you know the only thing that's gonna heal you is the helper, the healer. And the enemy is screaming to stay away from this book. Yeah. Well, I read my Bible yesterday and nothing happened. Well, I went to the gym yesterday and nothing happened. You can't go to the gym once and think everything's just gonna change. You gotta daily exercise, daily eat right, exercise right. You know, daily when you come into his presence, into his word, he begins the healing process. And you know, a healing, a broken leg, takes months to heal, just the same as a heart. My prayer is that today is day one of the healing. Begins the health in your heart. During a season of loss and grief, the enemy will do anything to keep you from God's word. But here's what happens, it says he gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Lord, help me draw close to your word. Quickly, two more. Lord, in your time, use me to bring healing to others. Do you know, we're either in one of two groups here today. We're either going through pain and need comfort, or God says, I'm gonna use you to bring comfort to others. Paul says in Thessalonians, encourage one another
and build each other up just in the fact you're doing. If you're true followers of Christ, your duty is to comfort those who mourn. If you're not in pain or heartbreak right now, someone in your world is. Someone in your world is, and you are Jesus' hands and feet. Remember, God starts the healing of a broken heart more often than not with a person. Maybe you are the person tomorrow at university, at college, at school, at work, to start the healing of a healing heart, of a hurting heart. And finally, prayer number seven. Lord, extend to me purpose for my pain. Psychologists call this redemptive pain. It's the highest and the best form, the best use of pain. God doesn't want you to waste your hurt. Some of you have been through so much pain in this room and God is saying I'm gonna take your mess and create a message. There are books in this room that the enemy has told you not to write but they need to be written because God wants to give you purpose for your pain. When Chantelle walks in here, if she's not here already, she is healed and she is whole. It doesn't mean she doesn't have bad days, it just means that she is walking in freedom because she stayed on the path to the comforter which leads to freedom. She now goes to women's conferences, she speaks to large groups of people. Do you know what she does? She says stories of how she was abused as a little girl. She says stories of how her dad was murdered and if God can heal her, God can heal you. You see for some of you, you thought your pain, your hurt, your broken heart was a full stop and God said no, it's just a comma. It's a comma. There's a new chapter to be written in your life and today that new chapter begins because
your pain has a purpose. God doesn't want you to waste your hurt. Think about this, who can better help the mother of a special needs child than another mother of a special needs child? Who could better help someone who's been battling cancer than someone who's battled cancer? 2 Corinthians 1 says who comforts us all in our troubles so we may be able to comfort those experiencing trouble. I want you to remember what I'm about to say. Your greatest ministry in this life will come out of your deepest hurt. I've seen this all over the world. When you go through seasons of separation and brokenness, that's where God uses you. The greatest songs that are going to come out of this house are going to come from seasons of brokenness. The greatest sermons, the greatest books, all the materials are going to come from seasons of a broken heart. Don't waste your pain, redeem it. The greatest way to give the enemy a slap in the face is to redeem, to redeem it today. In Jesus' name, He heals the brokenhearted. Don't judge the journey before it's over. I'll say that again, don't judge the journey of your life before it's over. There is purpose in your pain today. We don't get to choose what happens to us, but we get to choose the path that we walk in Jesus' name, amen, amen. Come on, let's give God a hand. I want us all to stand. I'm going to invite the ministry team just to come down the front, the older care team, but if you're saying today, I want us to be really open and vulnerable and honest, but if you're saying today, Pastor John, my heart's been broken, there's been separation, there's been pain, I've kind of just pushed it down, I've concealed it, but today God, I feel like you'd want to begin this healing work and today I want to switch paths to the path of the comfort. I want you to just slip up your hand right now. Just slip up your hand and say, John, would you step out of your seats real quick? I don't want to embarrass you, I want to pray for you. Would you come right now if you need healing for a broken heart? He heals the broken heart. I want you to come right now. There's no embarrassment in this room. There's been many seasons of my life I would be joining you. I want to pray. Would you come? Would you come right now? He heals the brokenhearted. He bandages their wounds. Would you come right now? Many, many more of you need to come. The enemy wants to keep you in your
seat. He wants to keep you in your pain. He wants to keep you on the wrong path. We're just going to begin to pray and worship and minister over you for the next two or three minutes. Come on team. Your holy presence living in me. This is my daily bread. This is my daily bread. He's here right now. He's bringing healing. There's a new path that you walk today. It's a path to freedom. Thank you, Jesus. Would you all just stretch out your hands? We're going to receive this. Just stretch out your hands, everyone in this room. I'm going to pray these seven prayers one more time over you. Maybe you didn't come out, and that's totally fine. His presence can meet you in your seat. His presence can meet you in your home, watching online, wherever you are. But we're going to pray these seven prayers of healing over you once more. Lord, would you draw close to us in this time. Lord, would you grieve with me in my brokenness. Lord, would you bring me into community. Lord, give me my courage to surrender my need to understand. We lay it at your feet. It's a posture of humility and true surrender. Lord, help me to draw close to your Word. Lord, in your time, use me to bring healing to others. Lord, would you extend to me purpose for my pain. Amen. May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord cause his face to shine upon you. May the Lord be gracious unto you. May the Lord lift up the light of his countenance upon you and fill you with his peace, now and forevermore. Amen.
