If I haven't had the joy of meeting you, my name is Gianna and I get to serve here as the Journey College Director and your Online Coordinator. So good. And I'm Chantel. In case you guys haven't, you know, seen me before. And I get the absolute joy of being one of your Online Hosts today and being in the house of the Lord. Okay. And my name is Manny. I'm also honored and privileged to be here as one of your Online Hosts. That's right, you guys. Well, let us know in the comments what you're doing, where you're watching from. What is your Sunday morning look like right now? Because we want to hear from you and we want to know. Yeah. So our Sunday morning was like making sure we're just here for you. Making sure we're on time so that you guys can tune in what's happening here at church. Right. But I was a little tired. I was a little tired from the fireworks last night. It's the 4th of July here in America, here in Florida. And so how did you guys celebrate your 4th of July? Oh, I had a great time. I love driving my truck onto the beach here in Florida. We're allowed to do that.

So park there and just take it easy. It was a great 4th. Yeah. And they had like fireworks and everything over the beach. Yeah, it's beautiful. A lot of people had their own fireworks. It was wonderful. I didn't even know they did fireworks. And I live here. That's crazy. So fabulous. I had more of a chill, firework, 4th of July type of vibe. I had buffalo wings, a little ranch, I watched a little TV, chilled with my dogs, and then I went to sleep. I love that for you. So nice. You could hear them. It was like you were there but not there, you know? Exactly. Imagination came into play. Yeah. Period. Yeah. We, me and Zion, my husband, we went to a friend of ours' home and we celebrated there. And they made Philly cheesesteaks. Wow. That's different. It was different. It was absolutely different. I was expecting like kebabs, burgers, hot dogs, like a true American experience.

And they were like, no, we're pulling out the Phillies. The Phillies. And they were great Phillies. So good. I love a Philly. Good stuff. And so... Shout out if you're from Philly, by the way. Come on, shout out if you're from Philly with the real Philly steaks. But at the end of it, they're like, yeah, we don't have fireworks. And I'm like, guys. That's why they buttered you up with the cheesesteaks. They knew they had no fireworks. I was like, tis the season for the fireworks. I love it. And so we just went outside and just looked at the neighbor and what they had going on and we felt part of the experience. It was good. Yeah, I love that. It was so good. But you guys, we want to know how you celebrated your 4th of July. And if you're tuning in and you are not here in America or celebrating 4th of July, that's okay. That's okay. We just want to know how you celebrated your Saturday. What did you do? Let us hear from you. Absolutely. Who needs Netflix or Hulu when you got Journey Church on YouTube, you guys. So good. But we also want to encourage you to send this message with somebody you know who needs a word of encouragement. That's right. We're so expectant for the word. We really, truly believe it's going to land in your season. And so lay down distractions, lean in, because God has such a special word for you. The energy is flowing. We are getting ready to receive a word from God along with worship. Now, as my co-host so mentioned, yesterday, America celebrated 250 years of freedom. And it got me to thinking about a different kind of freedom. The Bible is actually banned in several dozen countries currently. I think it's about like 52. So maybe you're in one of those countries, or maybe you're here and you didn't celebrate. I'm here to tell you that you can still celebrate in the freedom that Christ gave you when he died on that cross. Galatians 5.1 says it is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. Guess what? Paul isn't talking about a political... freedom at all. He's actually talking about a spiritual one. When Jesus died on that cross, he took away our shame, our guilt, condemnation. He took away the need to perform for God's love. The hardest chains to break are the ones that we continue to hold on to. So friend, I want to encourage you and let you know that we have freedom. We don't have to go back to our old ways. We don't have to stay chained to something that no longer serves us. We can step boldly in faith. There is a warning to stand firm in the truth that God has already spoken over your situation. Stand firm in the fact that God already said you are redeemed. If you would allow me, I would like to take this moment to pray with you. Father God, I just thank you Father for the new mercy that is new every morning. It is fresh every morning and your word says that. I want to thank you that you have redeemed us, that you have called us in Jesus' mighty name. Amen. See you soon. would you lift your hands with me? As we worship, Father, we surrender ourselves to you. We give ourselves to you, Lord. We move our hearts into a posture of gratitude and thankfulness and remembrance of the sacrifice you've made for us on the cross, Lord. And I pray, Lord, if there's anybody in this room who has yet to encounter this radical love, Lord, that they would be open to you and that their hearts would soften, God. God, we recognize who you are in this room. There is none like you. And so we lift you up today, King of kings and Lord of lords. Hallelujah, hallelujah. Church, this week as I prayed for you and thought about you, I was actually singing this song with my friends. And I was encouraged because the Lord brought to mind this scripture. And it's found in the book of Revelation. I believe we've read it together before. What we see in the book of Revelation is that the writer is having a vision. And he sees someone that's seated on the throne. And he sees and knows, he sees this person with a scroll. But he begins to weep because he says that no one is worthy to open the scroll. But we see in Revelation 5, 5, that then one of the elders said unto me, he says, do not weep. Can someone in the room shout do not weep? See, the lion of the tribe of Judah, the root of David has triumphed. And he is able to open the scroll and its seven seals. And I just felt like the Lord sent me to encourage you. Someone in the room that's dealing with anxiety and depression, do not weep for God is able. Those in the room that are dealing with grief today, do not weep for God is able. He alone is worthy to open the scroll and its seven seals.

He alone is able. He alone is mighty. He alone is worthy. He alone. Come on, let's worship. And with that same heart posture, we would love to pray with you right now and pray for the people who might be going through certain things. We're asking you to be able to have us be able to call on you, God, when we need help, when we need reconciliation, when we need healing, when we need the ability

to forgive, Father God. We're just asking you to be able to be with your son or your daughter right now in this moment, Father God, and allow them to feel your presence in their heart and in their home, in their atmosphere and in their relationships, Father God. Whether it's a friendship, a marriage or beginning of something, Father God, we ask you to just be in it, Lord. Allow us to have your spirit, your thoughts and your ways and not rely on our own. We know that you will do all these things because you are worthy to be praised and you're able to do everything through your name, Jesus. And we know all these things will be so. Let me tell you, even if you don't have kids, join us, there's gonna be free haircuts, there's gonna be food. Just come out and join the family, and let's have a great time. Yeah, that's right, you guys. But I wanna share a testimony with you

that was shared with us. Her name is Mallory. And so Mallory grew up in a church where she only knew the wrath of God. She knew God as judge, but not as father. She didn't understand his love. In addition to her home, her father really struggled with anger, her mom had health concerns, and so she always felt lonely. And in 2023, that loneliness had carried over, and then she found out that she had stage four cancer. And she was just in that season of wrestling, of hearing the bad news, and she just leaned on the Lord and said, God, show me who you are, heal me. And for six months, she was praying consistently for a healing that everyone was telling her, no, it won't happen. And God showed up and healed her from her cancer. The doctors couldn't understand it, they didn't know how it happened, but we know, we serve a God who is faithful, who answers prayers. And so we just wanna go ahead and thank you guys so much for your gift of generosity, because because of what you guys have done, she then joined Journey Church, got into admin team, worshiped Jean, did a small group, not any small group,

an alpha small group, an alpha small group that brought people who were struggling with the same questions she was, and brought that healing, that closure from the power of Jesus, but the power of her testimony. And because of your giving, that space was available. we're currently in a season of sabbatical. This is a dedicated time for us to slow down, spend intentional time with our family, and focus on our relationship with God. That's right. And one of the things we've learned over the years is that healthy ministry flows from healthy people. This season is giving us a space to be refreshed, renewed, and strengthened for everything God has ahead for Journey Church. That's right. And honestly, it's such a gift. Thank you so much for being a church that understands the importance of rest. Thank you for your prayers, for your support, and for continuing to show up and be the church while we're away. We really are so grateful. One of the beautiful things about Journey is that ministry has never been about a few people carrying the weight. It's about an entire church family choosing to love God and love people together. Shout out. And that's exactly what we've seen all throughout this church. Every single week, people show up early, stay late, serve faithfully, pray for others, welcome guests, care for families, and make room for people to encounter Jesus.

Many of the lives being changed at Journey are impacted by people who simply said yes to serving wherever they were needed. So can we take a moment and celebrate everyone who serves and invests in others? Come on, let them hear it! Are we supposed to applaud? I don't think so. Okay. Like Pastor JJ and Liz mentioned, if we haven't had an opportunity to meet, my name is Joey, and I serve as one of the pastors here. And it really is a privilege to get to do ministry and to get to do what I do here, alongside whom I get to do it as well, not just you all, but our staff, our pastors, our teams. But none of this would even be here. And first of all, if it wasn't for God, but also the obedience of a man and a woman almost 10 years ago from Pastors JJ and Liz, who stepped out with a dream, stepped out in faith, stepped out on a word of obedience. And today, more importantly than the attendance number, it's the salvation numbers, all the people who began a relationship with Jesus. And so I think we're blessed with the greatest pastors on the face of this planet and Pastors JJ and Liz. And so if you believe that, can you put your hands together one time to just honor God for their lives? At the same time, before we get into the word, there's a couple of groups I want to recognize. And that is all of our first-time guests today.

Come on, thank you so much for being here today. It really is a big deal that you would spend some of your Sunday here with us. At the same time, we're not just meeting at Fern Park, we're not just meeting online, but we're also meeting across campuses as well. And so let's make some noise for East Orlando, Kissimmee, online. And so, but if you're ever in the area, we'd love to have you visit one of our locations. And although I might have not had an opportunity to greet everybody individually, there's one thing I already know about you. And that is that you really love Jesus. How do I know that, you may be asking? Well, because you're at church on a Sunday on 4th of July weekend, somebody. You could be out of town, you could be on the beach right now, but I believe that you said, hey, I wanna be in the house of God today. And I'm grateful, this weekend is 4th of July, I'm grateful for this country. Not perfect by any means, but grateful for our government, grateful for the rights and the freedoms that we do have. And just gotta continue to pray for our country and everything that's coming up ahead of us. But today, I believe I have a word, I have a message on my heart. And if I can be honest with you, I've had this message on my heart since 2024. I didn't know when I would deliver it. I didn't know in what setting or atmosphere I was gonna be able to share what I'm about to share with you today. But I knew that God had already started ministering to me upon this title, upon this topic. And I'm just grateful that you would be in the room today and be able to lean into everything that God has for you. Right off the bat, I just wanna let you know that this message is for anybody who's ever felt like you were going backwards instead of going forward. Have you ever felt like that? You take one step forward, but only to realize... that hey, you ended up taking a couple of steps back in the process. You're back where you started. You put so much effort into it. You tried so hard, but it seems like you're just not advancing.

It seems like you're not winning. Well, I think the image that kind of comes to mind, a silly illustration would simply be maybe you're stuck behind driving a person who's driving kind of slow. Have you ever been stuck behind a slow driver on the road? Someone's like, on the way here, that happened today. Better be careful how you drive. You got a journey stick on your car, right? Someone's like, that's why I don't have one. I hear you sometimes, I hear you. Have you ever been stuck behind a slow driver and you finally get to pass them and you advance to where you're going, you feel like, okay, great, I left them in the past. I got away from them. But has it ever happened to you that at the very next red light, guess who's pulling up right next to you? You wasted $42 on gas for no reason. Or maybe you're at the grocery store and you have your items, you're late, you gotta leave quickly. And so you look at the lines, you become an expert line judger. I don't know if that's a thing or not, but you're looking at which line is advancing the quickest. You see a line with only two people while all the other lines have like seven or eight people. And you're like, surely this is God's favor

that he let me see when nobody else saw. And so you go and you put yourself in the short line thinking that it's gonna advance quickly only to find out that the other lines, even though there was more people, there's some issues happening in your line and the other line is just going and going and going. Those are silly, those are everyday examples, but what do we do when we feel like we're not advancing spiritually? What do we do when we have that same thought, I thought I was past this, except we're back in counseling, we're back in recovery, we're back looking for a job, we're back in a waiting season, we're back in praying prayers that we thought we had already prayed before, we're back seeking for a purpose when God, I thought you had made it clear before, but now everything is changing in my life. And it's crazy how this small word, the word back can carry so much emotion. I think if we could be a little bit honest today, maybe a lot of us don't like that word of going back, because it feels like failure, it feels like retreating, it feels like we're losing progress, we're headed in the wrong direction. And that's why we celebrate

anything that has to do with going forward. Those are the conferences that we attend, those are the books that we pick up, those are the podcasts that we listen to of how to go further, faster and advance and get everything in my future. Nothing wrong with that, but today I'd like to propose to you a suggestion. And here's my one big idea for today. What if back or going back wasn't always a bad thing? What if going back is sometimes the right thing when God is the one leading you? Going back isn't always a bad thing, because God might be just up to something in our lives, and we've just got to continue to be obedience. Look at your neighbor today and tell them the title of my message, tell them, go back. Tell them, go back. Come on, I know you stayed up late popping fireworks, but I'm gonna need a little more energy from you today. Tell them, go back. Go back. There you go, come on. As I was reading the Bible in the New Testament, the first four books known as the Gospels, I began to notice a pattern. And the pattern was that after Jesus would heal somebody, he oftentimes wouldn't send them away or advance them to a new future,

but rather he would heal them, and then he would send them right back home or right back to everyday life. There was a man who had multiple demons inside of him. Once healed, Jesus tells him, go home. There was another individual who had a lot of leprosy on his skin. That's a skin disease. And after Jesus heals him, he says, go back and show yourselves to the priest. There's another individual who's lowered through a roof by his friends because he cannot walk. And after Jesus. Jesus heals him, he says, take up your mat, go back home. There's another instance where there's a royal official, there's this soldier who has a son who is dying back at home. He leaves his home to go find Jesus. He asked Jesus, can you please heal him? And then Jesus replies, go back home because your son will live. And when I started getting this idea of how God oftentimes will take us back, I started seeing back all over the Bible. If it was up to me, I would imagine that, hey, God, after you heal somebody, wouldn't you wanna have them leave where they came from, leave their past, leave their problems, leave a place, leave their people?

But that's not how he works in scripture. He oftentimes would send people back home, not with the same identity, but with definitely a new purpose. And so I began to ask God, God, can you please reveal to me, why would you ever send, excuse me, why would you ever send someone back? And I believe he highlighted a couple of stories in the scriptures today that I wanna share with you. For anybody behind on your Bible reading plan, all right, I'm gonna catch you up today, all right? And so I'm gonna need you to put your seatbelts on because we're gonna be jumping a little bit all over the Bible today. But one of the reasons why I believe that God sends somebody back, number one, is to develop us. Develop us has to do with preparation. And when I think of preparation, I think about David, the shepherd boy, before he ever became a king. For those of you unfamiliar with the passage, it's found in 1 Samuel, and this is where we learn that God has rejected the current king. His name is Saul. Saul is being rejected because he rather obey man than God. And so God sees this and he says,

hey, I'm gonna do something different. I'm gonna do something new. I'm gonna use somebody new. And he tells a prophet. A prophet is another word for a messenger of God. He tells a prophet by the name of Samuel, Samuel, go to Jesse's house. Jesse is David's dad. And so keep up with me a little bit here. I've got a lot of names happening. He goes over to Jesse's house because God told Samuel, hey, the next king, the next person that I want you to anoint, which by the way, anointing was a very symbolic ceremony. It was either, it was oil inside of a horn or inside of a flask. In this case, it was a horn. And they would pour, they would pour that oil. It would be full of oil. They would pour it over an individual as a symbolism of God's spirit and presence coming upon that person for a special task. And he says, I want you to go to Jesse's house because the next king, he's in there. And so Jesse being, Samuel, sorry, Jesse, Samuel being obedient, goes to Jesse's house and he says, Jesse, God brought me here. Do you have any sons? Jesse has eight sons. And you thought your family was kind of large.

Imagine on a Sunday morning getting ready for church and having to wait in the bathroom line. Anyways, you know, and so there's seven out of the eight kids there. And when Samuel is about to anoint the oldest and he's about to go down the line, God tells him that's not the one. He's ready to pour the oil, but he feels an impression on behalf of God saying, nope, that's not it, that's not the one. And he starts going down all the sons, all the brothers, and he's going, and the oil, the Bible says, is not flowing. He finishes, he gets to the very end of the line, the oil has not flown. And all of a sudden he says back to Jesse, are you sure these are all your kids? Because I feel like there's something missing here. That's where Jesse admits, hey, I actually do have one more, his name's David, but he's a shepherd and he's currently with the sheep. And Samuel says, hey, well, go call for him. We're not gonna sit until he gets here. And he comes back, they go get him, they bring him to the house. And immediately when Samuel sees David, God tells him, that's the one. Rise and anoint him. And we're gonna pick up on the story here in 1 Samuel 16, verse 13.

And the Bible says, so Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers. And from that day on, the spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David. Now, I just wanna put a pause right there because I. I don't wanna just skip over this, and I really felt like God wanted me to encourage somebody. And just highlight once again, remember, David got there last. Seven people got to the opportunity before David ever did, but the oil didn't flow. And I wanna encourage somebody today who maybe feels like you've gotten to your opportunity late, who you feel like you're not qualified enough, you feel that other people have tried to take what is yours, can I remind you through God's scripture that what God has for you is for you, and nobody else can take it. Yes. Yes. Yes. They might have more qualifications, their resume might be longer, they might come from the right family, they might live in the right neighborhood, whatever the case might be, whatever excuse or reasons they might throw their way, but what is for you is for you, and the oil will not flow on anybody else's life

if that oil is for you. And so he shows up, he gets anointed, and you would think that, okay, cool, you're gonna be the king, so I guess that means tomorrow you become king, and that's simply not the case. If anything, he's actually, now he has more responsibility because now he's serving the king, yet he's still taking care of the sheep. The Bible lets us know in the 1 Samuel 17, 15, but David went back and forth from Saul, King Saul, to tend his father's sheep at Bethlehem. And so now he has an anointing, but he still has more responsibility to take care of. And then fast forward a couple of more verses. There's one day where David is working for Uber Eats, and his dad takes him, his dad gives him some food to take to his brothers who are on the front lines of a battle, and he wasn't looking for a fight, but he notices that there's the Philistines, the enemy, there's a big giant by the name of Goliath who's mocking the people of God, who's mocking the army of God, and everybody's terrified to fight him, but David says, hey, I'll go fight him. If nobody else will do something, I'll do something about it. 1 Samuel 17, 34, 36, the Bible says,

but David said to Saul, your servant has been keeping his father's sheep. When a lion or a bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock, I went after it, struck it, and rescued the sheep from its mouth. When it turned on me, I seized it by its hair, struck it, and killed it. Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear, and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them because he has defiled the armies of the living God. In other words, let me summarize it. He says, this isn't my first fight. I know I might look small. I know I might look a little young, and you might not know this about me, but I'm coming from the pasture. I'm coming from the fields. I know you wanna give me your weapons, but I'm used to this other weapon. I got this slingshot with me, and I would take care of the sheep using a slingshot. Lions would come, and bears would come, and all these other animals, but I took care of them, and I also took care of Goliath, but not because he learned how to fight with Goliath, but because he was prepared in the fields. Why would God send us back sometimes? It's because he's trying to develop us.

Why didn't God take David right to the throne the next day after he was anointed? Because there was something in the field that David needed to, something that David needed to understand and learn and conquer for his future. I think David's story reminds us of this principle that the time of announcement is rarely the time of appointments. Just because God said it right now and right here doesn't mean it needs to happen in the next 11 minutes. Sometimes he'll give you a word, and then he sends you back to work. He gives you a calling, and then he sends you back to a classroom. He gives you a king's anointing, but you still have a shepherd's responsibility. And you thought you received a word, and so, okay, I guess it must be it right now, and that's not always the case. It's very possible that you are in the field you are in because God is trying to develop you in an area of your life that's gonna help you for your future. And we're here complaining, God, until when? And God, why? And all these things. Instead, we should be asking God, what are you wanting to develop me in my life? What area of my life are you wanting me to grow in?

Not my will, but yours be done. I believe that God is preparing you for what he's prepared for you. And so sometimes the most spiritual thing that we can do after we've received a word is go back to work, go back to your family, go back to your responsibilities, go back to your church, go back to your ministry, go back to the assignment where God has for you. Why? Because faithfulness in the field prepares you for fruitfulness in your future. And we don't see it right now. We don't understand it right now, but God knows what he's doing in our lives. I think a second reason why sometimes God sends somebody back is to discover what was lost. And this speaks to recovery. There is in 2 Kings chapter six, there's a story of another prophet named Elisha. He has a discipleship group, kind of like Journey College. And it's thriving, it's growing. And the Bible says that the disciples tell Elisha, hey, would you allow us to go down to the River Jordan? And would you allow us to go and cut some of the trees down so that we can bring the material back and we can build a larger space? Elisha says, hey, that's a great idea, you should go. They went down to the river. And as the Bible says, as they were cutting the trees, something happened.

Let's pick it up right there where it says 6-5. As one of them was cutting down a tree, the iron axe head fell into the water. Oh no, my Lord, he cried out. It was borrowed. They're working, they're doing something good. And the Bible says that the axe head falls into the water. He starts to freak out. He goes back to the leader and he said, hey, it fell off the handle. Have you ever, you know, this doesn't seem like a big deal, losing an axe head, but let me just remind us that they lived in different times. It's not like they could just run to a Home Depot or a Lowe's and just buy another one. This material was costly. This material was rare. You had to forge it, you had to make it into this what it was. And on top of that, it wasn't even his, it was borrowed. You ever let somebody borrow something and you didn't get it back? Don't look at them, don't look at them. I see somebody, he's like, hey, remember that, that shirt I let you borrow? It started as a small, now it's a medium. I mean, it's a, you kind of stretch that out a little bit. He tells Elijah, hey, I lost it. Elijah says, hey, where did you lose it? Take me there.

Bible says that they go there. Elijah says, 2 Kings 6, 6, a man of God, the man of God asked, where did it fall? And when he showed it to him, the place, Elijah cut a stick through it there and made the iron float. Elijah shows up, says, where did you lose it? Oh, in this area, cuts a branch off, throws it in the water. And the Bible says that supernaturally, this ax head, something that was not meant to float begins to float and they pick it up and they get back to work. And it's amazing. It's an amazing story because I've never seen something like that happen before. Elijah was known for the miracles that God would do through his life. But in this particular case, I don't wanna just focus on the miracle. I wanna focus on the beginning of the miracle. That whole miracle, that whole scene, he would have missed out on that if in the very beginning, what's the question that Elijah asked this young man? Where did you lose it? Take me there. In other words, let's go back. Let's go back. Let's go back to where you lost it. And I can imagine maybe he felt a little uncomfortable.

Maybe he felt disappointed. Maybe he felt a little bit shameful because man, I was trying to do something good and I lost the peace. It doesn't even belong to me. And now I cost this time and energy. But it was in his honesty that he was able to receive his healing. And I really believe that before God gives it back to us, he will oftentimes take us back. And maybe you're sitting here today, maybe you're watching online right now, and maybe you haven't lost your salvation, but maybe you have lost your joy. Maybe you have lost your peace. Maybe you have lost your compassion. Maybe you have lost your intimacy with God. Maybe you have lost your excitement to serve. Maybe you have lost your confidence. We're praying, God, restore me. God, give it back to me. And yes, God wants to do that. And yes, God can do that. But oftentimes he's gonna ask us, where did you lose it? Take me back there. And this begins with honesty. Healing begins where honesty begins. It's uncomfortable. But God is wanting us to be honest with him so that he can give us back anything that we have lost.

And I really believe that God brought me here today to let you know. On behalf of God, hey, it's time to get it back. Your joy, your peace, your hope, your love, your future, your belief, your family, your job, your calling, everything that God has in store for you, it's time to get it back. I am a believer that God doesn't just restore things, but he restores people. I think the third and final reason why at times God may take us back is to deliver us, and this speaks to redemption. In the book of Luke, the Bible lets us know of a young man, a son, who is desperate for his inheritance. Normally, you'd receive it once your father passed away, but in this particular case, he wanted it now. He goes up to his dad and says, hey, give me my inheritance now, and the gracious father, the kind, loving father that he is says, okay, I'll give you everything that belongs to you, and the moment this son receives his inheritance, he goes, the Bible says he squanders it. He goes and he wastes it. He goes and he spends it on just random things, on the party life, and just friends, or at least fake friends, and he's out doing his thing, but little does he know, he's running out, and finally, he runs out of money,

runs out of energy, runs out of time, runs out of friends, runs out of everything, can't even keep a good job. The only job he can have is one of taking care of the sheep, and the Bible says that one day, as he's caring, I'm sorry, for the pigs. One day, as he's caring for the pigs, he's so hungry that he's right next to them. He's like, man, that food doesn't look all that bad, and the Bible lets us know in Luke 15, 17, and 20, when he came to his senses, he said, how many of my father's hired servants have food to spare, and here I am, starving to death, so he got up, and he went to his father's house. He finally remembered, you know what? Even my dad's servants did better than this. If he won't accept me as a son, at least I think he'll accept me as a servant, and he starts making his way back to the house, and expecting the worst, little did he know, he was about to receive the best welcome, because the father in the story, he's actually, since the day that the son left, he's been waiting for him to come back home. He's been looking for him. He's been waiting for him, and the Bible says in Luke 15, 22, and 24, but the father said to his servants, once he saw him, quick, bring the best robe, and put it on him.

Put a ring on his finger, and sandals on his feet, for the son of mine was dead, and is alive again. He was lost, and is found, and so they began to celebrate. I like to put myself in the stories at times of the Bible, and I think this is why it's important that we wouldn't just rush through the Bible, but that we would walk through the Bible, and sometimes I like to put myself in the story to kind of imagine what was certain people feeling, what were certain people thinking, and when I put myself into the mind of the space of this son who wasted his inheritance, and now is coming back home, I can imagine he felt embarrassed. I can imagine he felt disappointed. I can imagine he felt like just, there were so many things wrong with him. What were people gonna say? But little did he find out that his dad wasn't mad at him, but rather, he was madly in love with him, and he had the best welcome prepared for him, and when I think about that story, I can't help but think about my story. I told you, I've been thinking about this topic since 2024, because 2023 was one of the hardest years of my life personally. In January of 2023, I had a failure having to do with alcohol and it began both a beautiful, but also very difficult year for me and my family.

Went to counseling, went to Restoration Center, went to AA, went to, took time off of the church, and I was off staff, and it was a very interesting, to say the least, difficult year for me, and I remember at the end of the year is when we had discussed that I was gonna start attending church once again, and if I can be honest with you, I was so afraid. I was full, I had no confidence to come back. I was so shameful. I had all these crazy thoughts in my head. I was scared to see you. I was scared of what you were gonna think. I was scared of just, of what people were gonna say, and I had all these feelings, and I remember telling God, I was like, man, God, it would be so much easier if I just went somewhere else and started over. My dad, he's a pastor, but he's also, he's a handyman, and growing up, he would take me on different projects, and so I can work with wood, I can work with some stuff. So I know what it's like to start a new project from scratch versus take over an old project that was done incorrectly. I'm like, dude, I'll start something new. I'll build it and it'll be strong versus I've also done the jobs where we've gone to other people's houses and we had to take things apart and move two by fours and get everything in order because we knew it, the foundation was wrong, it was bad. And if we just skipped it,

it might not show up on the bottom, but it was gonna show up at the top and the structure was gonna be all off. And so my mind went there and I'm like, start over versus rebuild something. And I was like, God, please, do I really have to? And I remember God very clearly told me, you gotta go back home, here, you gotta go back. And then one day when I was praying and just preparing to return, God told me this phrase that I've never forgotten that I wrote in my Bible. And it's simply the following, you might be in the same place, but you're not the same person. And I wanna share that with you today because the enemy's been messing with some of you. You fell again, you're still in the same cycle. If people only knew you're not advancing and you're supposed to be a man of God, you're supposed to be a woman of God and the enemy's having a field day. Now we can remember this truth that I might be in the same place physically, but I'm not the same person. I'm a new creation in God. I wanna let you know that your worst chapter doesn't have to be your last chapter. God is up to something in your life, but oftentimes it starts with going back.

I have here this arrow, this represents you and me. I took a archery class in high school. I was like, man, why did I do that? Now I know why. This arrow was designed to fly. All jokes aside, I could throw it. I'm not gonna throw it at you, no worries, you're good. Someone's like, today's a bad day to sit in the front row. You're like, this is why I sit in the back. I could very easily throw this. I could throw it across the stage and I'll get some good distance, but this wasn't designed for it to be thrown by me. But this wasn't designed for it to be thrown by me. This wasn't designed just for it to travel short distances. This was designed to fly really far, but I can't throw it by myself. I need the other piece that goes with it. I need the bow. This is our life. This is the Lord. I can throw the arrow, yes, but if I really want this arrow to reach its fullest potential, if I really want this arrow to reach its purpose and go distance that could never be accomplished just by my own strength, I need this. And not just this, before it can go forward, it must go. Going back is uncomfortable. Going back is not easy.

You and I see other people flying way past us and we're like, God, what are you up to? God, I've been here and you've been stretching me a while now God, you've been pulling me back. I need to be pulled back. I need to be pulled back. I need to be pulled back. I need to be pulled back. I need to be pulled back. God, you've been pulling me back. God, until when? And the comfortable thing would be for us to just get off God, get off the bow and kind of go and do our own thing. But our job is not to do our own thing. Our job is to stay in God's hands. And if he's pulling us back, if he's pulling us back, it's because the greater the pull, the greater the potential. And if he's pulling you back, it's because he has a bright future in store for you. If he's pulling you back, it's because he's not done yet with you. If he's pulling you back, it's because he's developing you. If he's pulling you back, it's because he has an incredible future in store for you. And so next time you and I feel that uncomfortableness, God, you want me to go back? Yes, I want you to go back. because you don't see you don't see all that I'm doing in your life but your job

isn't to understand it your job is to obey your job is to stay in my hands let me aim you let me let me point you in the right direction and when I say go I'm gonna let you go and what took other people years I don't know who this is for but what took other people years to accomplish it's only gonna take you weeks because you did it my way says the Lord you didn't get out of my will you didn't give up when other people told you to but you stayed in it you stayed faithful David you stayed faithful with the sheep no one's watching me God's like I'm watching you no they might not applaud for you but I'm applauding for you I see you being faithful there I have an incredible future in store for you when it's time to you for you to be released I'm gonna let you go and you're gonna not be able to give yourself any of the credit you're gonna be able to only point back to me says the Lord that it was because of God that I was able to accomplish everything that I was able to do for him God sometimes pulls back what he's about to launch forward and today you might feel like you've been going back life has been bringing you back God's been bringing you back backs not always a bad thing if God is the one leading you with every eye closed and head bowed down I want to pray for you today I want to pray for anybody who feels like they're going back instead of going forward but today maybe the Holy Spirit made something click in your spirit okay God I think it's because you're up to something in my life Heavenly Father we come before you right now and I pray for every single person within the sound of my voice and watching online I pray for anybody who feels themselves in a season of preparation God I don't know what all you're doing it doesn't feel comfortable God but I'm not gonna bounce I'm gonna stay right here where you have me God I know I've lost some things along the way I know I've been trying to hide it pretend like it really didn't matter pretend like it didn't affect me but today I think you're asking me to be honest because you want to give me joy back you want to give me peace back you want to give me these things that I lost along the way God today we want to be honest with you and say God here's my heart here's my life I give you everything that I am maybe there's some

people here today who God has been pulling at your heart God has been impressing in your heart to start a relationship with him either for the first time or for the first time in a long time and maybe you're like that son who wasted his money his inheritance and you were scared to come back because what are people gonna say what is my Heavenly Father gonna think of me again he's not mad at you he's madly in love with you and that's why he gave his only son for you and for me so that we would have not just life today but life forever and so if that's you here today you say hey I need Jesus in my heart I want to surrender my life to him I'm gonna invite you on the count of three to lift up your hand high as a sign saying God here's everything that I am I surrender it I'm coming back to you in Jesus name one two three lift up your hand high right there where you're at praise God I see multiple numerous hands going up you can put them down Journey Church can you help pray with me out loud say Heavenly Father I come before you today I invite you to my life I give you my past my present and my future I believe you died for me but you also came back to life for me today I give you everything that I am and I declare that from this day forward I will never be the same in Jesus name we pray amen and amen come on let's give it up for all those who gave their heart to Jesus and if you just decided to give your life to Jesus you just made the best decision of your life we would love to walk alongside you so go ahead and scan the QR code and someone will reach out to you Wow our pastor just gave an amazing word I mean the one thing that really stood out to me was the arrow illustration of being pulled back and the greater the potential the heart of the pool that was absolutely beautiful sometimes we feel like we're being beyond measure but one thing God is not going to do is give you more than you can handle God knows your potential God knows how far he can take you he wants to bring greatness out of you so embrace the pool embrace those moments where sometimes you have to start at square one I know I myself it's so easier said than done but I myself have had so many moments where I've had to start over or I've had to just go back to the basics but every time I

learned something new. So I am so grateful that this message was preached today. It helps me have a more positive outlook on going back to basics.
