Fathers Day Inside Angola Prison | First Ever Father and Son Reunification

Day meant everything to me, like I said, this is the first day in his entire life that we've got to spend a day together as father and son. This is a day that can never be forgotten or surpassed. God is good. Oh, 10 pounds. Oh, it's going pretty good, man. I'm having the time of my life, man. We're working on some patience. My name is Corbin. This is my first time actually fishing. I'm kind of scared. Don't tell nobody. My first time hooking a worm. First time meeting him. Just very excited, very blessed to be here. Spending time with myself for the first time. This will be my, me and my son's first time actually just being with each other. So I see him for the first time and I think it's 12 to 15 years. So he's heard stories about me and they were pretty rough stories. So being able to talk about God with him and let him see a different side of me other than what he's heard, it's been awesome. It's been awesome, especially talking about God and what God's done in my life and what God ought to do in his life if he allows him to. I'll do my best not to cry, it's my son's son. The first time I got to spend a day with my son, tell him about God, talk about Jesus

a little bit, some past stuff. This could be nothing but God today. Thank you all so much. And what does today mean to you? Today meant everything to me. How is it for you, my man? It's amazing. It's a dream come true. I've been dreaming for this since I was a little kid. And I mean, all in God finally made it come true. I'm very thankful for everything that God has done. And what does your dad mean to you? He means everything to me. I mean, he's my mentor. I mean, I love him. I have life without parole plus five years. He hasn't had an easy life growing up. He's dealt with a lot of loss. I mean, with me being in prison with the loss of a couple of his friends, and his grandpa, and his great grandpa, it's been a... He stood strong. His strength, man. His strength. It's amazing. It's amazing. This is going to be the best experience I've had in my life with them. Being able to just be a part of their life and just show them that I can be a better father, even from in prison. We don't gotta say it. We don't gotta pretend. Sometimes love looks a lot like... Man, being a father to me, just being somebody that they can look up to, show them that you still can make mistakes, but if you make mistakes, don't when you fall, just climb up and get

back up. And then one thing, if you put your trust in God, man, God gonna lead it, God gonna make a way for you. So, that's just the best thing you can do, just keep putting your faith in God, and that's what I know about being a father, man. If I show them the right things to do, I promise they gonna follow. Before Christ, I was a man that didn't have a heart, didn't even worry about nobody, didn't have any feelings. But now, I'm a man after Christ, and I just want to continue just to do this business and continue to help people learn and grow. And that's another reason why I came up here. I came up here for Bible College, and I learned so much. And Bible College has taught me to be a servant, and I know that's my calling, to be a servant leader, to help the lost. It takes a lot of planning just to make this day happen. It takes a lot of courage to make this day happen. It takes a lot of praying to make this day possible. I think about you all the time, and when those thoughts get heavy, I dig in a little more to stay stronger. My words always come from the heart when I speak to you. My lectures extend from my mind to teach you new things. I'm proud of the things you've accomplished at this point, and of the man you're becoming. Keep doing what you're doing. Keep grinding and chasing your dreams and make them come true. Always pray about all things, and ask God to lead and guide you, and always keep you pointing in the right direction. I support you always, and I trust and believe in you. Most of all, I'm grateful to have you as a son, and to be able to say you're a child of mine proudly. Thanks for your support and your motivation on those days when I seemed distant.

But you kept growing up while I learned, too, how to be the kind of man worth looking up to. One day you'll be standing where I'm standing now, wondering if you're enough, and somehow figuring out how the little things matter more than anything else. More than money, more than trophies on a shelf. Here's to the miles and the stories we tell. The winds that felt good and the times life hit like hell. I grew up without a father. Without a father figure and everything, so I want to do for my son what my father figure didn't do for me, which is be there. Be that role model. Be that role model that I need to be for me to be a successful man. I don't want my son to follow my past. I'm not worrying about my past because my past is my past and that's stuck there. Right now I'm worrying about my future. Just a couple imperfect men learning how to love. Here's to the miles and the stories we tell. This is a historic event. Something you'll never see happen. When the fish gets on there it's going to take the bobber under the water and then you just pull back on it My name is Devin I've been incarcerated for about a year and a half now I still have another year and a half before I go home Yea I ain't seen them since I got incarcerated this time It's actually like a wonderful experience that I'm being able to partake in this event that y'all are throwing here because I haven't been able to see them so I ain't been able to get a lot of father-son time in the last year and a half I mean it's great talking to them on the phone all the time but there's nothing better than that hands on, person in person, love your son, hold your son, there's nothing better One, two, three, let's go! Woo! I was a horrible dad, I was a horrible man God has changed my life in every way possible We get blessings through obedience Ever since I've got my life right with God I fall short all the time, I mean when I'm flawed We're just trying to reach a standard that we can never reach Just trying to reach that standard that Jesus Christ set Every day we get better We get better and we get better and we learn and we grow Even in our falls and our weakest moments we get up stronger And being on that boat and looking to my left and seeing my son And then looking to my right and looking to my left and seeing my son with a fishing pole on a boat And then looking to the right and seeing Camp J And just seeing how far that God has brought me And realizing just the growth in my life and the change in my life And then getting to share that with my son Getting to let him know that hey I was over there when I first got here And I was doing this and I was doing this and I was doing this And then I gave my life to God

And now look where I'm at Letting him know that no matter how far you fall in life or how rough it gets There's a way and there's somebody who can love you even more than I could ever love you And he'll be with you just like I'll be with you through any storm No matter how hard it gets in life you can always call out to him and he's going to be there And he'll bring you through anything Well what it did for me today, man I said I told Jay man I'm sorry And I'm sorry for every moment I missed And to see that, man check out what he said to me He said dad it's okay If you could have been there you would have But I held that resentment against my dad for not being there for handling his business as a man But he's not holding the resentment against me And I made my choices So man, I thank, I thank God for, and he heard about me on the street, and he was able to see something different. He was able to see why, right, and he was receptive to this conversation of how man, Revelation 3 and 20 says that man, if you, if you knock, the door will be open to you, if you seek, you will find. I will come in, I will supplicate you, I will make myself real to you in a way that nobody can take away. And I was able to show him that. So it didn't just bring healing for me and him, but it also brought even more healing for me and my dad. Like, man, you holding on to that, but he's not holding on to it against you. No, I think one of the best moments of my day was whenever I got to sit down and try to impact my son about God, you know, I pray every night that they'd be influenced by somebody that's at home and bring Jesus into their lives every night to where, like, whenever I got out there and I was able to produce my Bible to him, you know what I'm saying,

and try to introduce him, they was like, oh no, dad, we already got videos and stuff we'd be watching, you know what I'm saying, and teaching us the Bible already. So I ain't gonna lie, that kind of, that kind of touched a heart right there. It was an amazing opportunity. And I just want to say thank you. I want to say, like, when I got on that boat, and I was riding on it, I'm saying, like, there's gotta be nothing but God because I'm on it. I got a life sentence. They got me out here on a boat. You feel me? Like, I'm being honest. Like, man, I'm really, like, if I can do this, and like, you just think about how the other people can look at the difference that we made, you know. It was nothing negative. Everything was positive today. So, like, the impact was going to be so much amazing. Like, y'all can trust me to get on a boat. Y'all should be able to trust me to be able to reunite with my family. Like, you know, there's a lot of things that's missing and broken in our life that we need, like, as support wise, that's hard to get. And I know that's going to stand out and make people really want to be there, you know what I'm saying. So I really appreciate that. That's the first thing in my mind when I got on the boat.
