This week, Derek and Brandon sit down with Tamba, a member of the Southeast recovery ministry team, for an honest conversation about what it looks like to hit rock bottom — and choose to turn around.

Tamba grew up as a preacher's kid in Liberia, moved to the United States as a teenager, and spent years running from God and chasing a sense of worth through alcohol, acting, music production, and anything else that might make him feel like somebody. Multiple DUIs, two divorces, a stint in Phoenix where he contemplated ending his life, and a three-week binge that left sixteen empty bottles under his bed — Tom has lived the kind of story that is easy to feel like there is no way out of.

But in November 2021, he made a phone call. And someone answered.

The guys connect Tamba's story to the opening of a new sermon series on Joseph — a man who was thrown into a pit by his own brothers and still somehow ended up exactly where God intended.

God can use your pit, but that doesn't mean you caused it on purpose or that you should stay in it. Real change requires more than good intentions. It requires intentional action — being, as Tamba puts it, a part of your own rescue.

If you've ever asked when do we get to the good part? — this episode is for you.
