Ep. 13: Jesus's Death Inspired Awe | The Crucifixion of Jesus

After Jesus dies, it seems like the power is gone. This man who could make supernatural things happen has died. Surely all the power has left the building and the story is going to get calm. No, the exact opposite happens. See, as soon as Jesus dies, supernatural events start happening all over the place with incredible meaning. My friend Hannah is going to explain to us right now. So the Bible says that Jesus cried out with a loud voice and he gave up the ghost, but just means he died. So right after he dies, the veil in the temple is torn, the earth quakes and it's dark from the sixth to the ninth hour. Now that's like one or two scriptures right after it says he died and it's really easy to gloss over them. But hold on a second. Let's just talk about what really went down. The Bible says it was dark from the sixth to the ninth hour. That's not 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. The sun's just not late getting up. That is noon. So it was light and then he died, it's dark. The earth shook. There is an earthquake in the part of the world where there's normally not earthquake. Maybe someone is experiencing an earthquake for the very first time.

The Bible says that the veil in the temple, which was this sacred holy cloth that separated the holies of holies, ripped from the top to the bottom. Now you're like, Hannah, that's really not a big deal. I rip stuff all the time from top to bottom. But you know what it actually is because this thing is about super thick and about 42 feet high. And it doesn't rip from the bottom to the top. It rips from the top to the bottom. It's sacred, it's holy, and to top it off, there are people who were once dead that are now up and walking around and talking to people. Yeah, let that sink in. That feels real apocalyptic. That feels really crazy. That feels like if you're experiencing the darkness, you don't have a flashlight in your pocket on your iPhone to just pull out and figure it out. You are confused. You're doing the daily chores. You're raising the kids. You're fixing the bottles. And all of a sudden, during your lunchtime, it's dark. All of a sudden, you're getting water from the well and the earth is moving. All of a sudden, you're standing outside of Jerusalem and you hear about this veil being torn and the dead people are talking

and they are not dead anymore, they're alive. So what's really going on? What's really happening? This thing happened after Jesus died. So much so, these crazy events made everybody think, man, maybe he really was the son of God. Maybe he just could have been who he said he was. The whole entire thing is shifting around so that people look at Jesus and say, who are you? And let me tell you, that's not much different than what he's trying to do in your life right now. He's doing things all around you to question, for you to ask him, who are you? And because he's so, so good, he answers. He's a Jesus who inspires awe, he inspires wonder. And you know what? Just like all those thousands of years ago, he's still doing things that makes us marvel. Maybe Jesus really is who he said he is. Maybe he really could be who he says he is to you.
