There's a lot of things we have yet to see but God we confess we would gladly lay it all down if we could just see more of you and we confess that this morning we just want to take hold of your face Lord we just want to behold you Lamb of God we just want to see more of you in our lives in this so that means it's going to cost us from seeing some things we once thought were desires and loggings of ours God we lay it down before you today if we could receive and see more of you that's our prayer God so would you seal that in us Holy Spirit would you minister that reality to us this morning Holy Spirit thank you I know you delight in it you got power to do it so we ask it in the mighty name of Jesus in church you'd say amen amen amen amen God we love you well you guys can go ahead and have a seat so good to be with you this morning my name is Jordan I serve as the young adults faster here and it's my privilege to welcome you whether you're new here checking us out for the first time and I know we got some new college students who are here with us church fam can we just welcome the college students that are here come on we're so grateful to have you and hey I want you to know we're a church in multiple locations we also have in Getty español meeting we got our in Getty GR joining us as well and then a whole bunch of folks online and in prisons and so we are really grateful to be a part of a bigger family beyond these walls and for for you college students college age we would we would love to see you come hang at our young adults ministry you heard Josh talk a little bit about it at the offering time of what the Lord's doing man we just we want to provide a space where you can find some godly community I mean this is the one of the most exciting seasons of your life where you are making the biggest decisions for your future when it comes to you know your degree who you may marry or where you're gonna go work or if you're gonna follow Jesus or not on your own God's gonna have a personal encounter with you I mean you're gonna pick your friends it's gonna set up your future and we would be honored to come alongside you to be a support we want to do this with you and we have fun doing it Thursday nights we'd love to
see you there we'll be in the lobby as well after our gathering time answering any questions you have inviting you to our young adults hangs and I want to encourage you to find a church home in the season make a church your home whether that is in Getty or not commit to a body of Christ so God can continue ministering in and through you so would you do that that would be awesome and we also are excited about awakened nights which are coming up starting this Thursday man last year God did some incredible things as we dedicated space and time to pray seek him as as life's reward and I know there's there's folks here in this room who I can see already right now where God met them in just powerful ways I see you it's a real real I know dude God met you in a really cool way and we'd love for you to come out God wants to do something special in you not just because it's a it's a Thursday night but because we are coming hungry for more of him and we've been praying we've been doing devotionals every day as a church praying and seeking God and we're believing people are going to come to Christ so you've been praying for for years we're believing God's going to do some miracles but best of all that Jesus Christ is going to become greater in your heart and that's what we want and so this Thursday night we're kicking off awakened so make sure you you come on out for that and as I've been thinking about it you know I'm getting excited about getting closer to the Lord but if I could also be honest when I think about wanting to draw closer to the Lord and also I don't know if it's just for me or maybe you're like me I also think about the times where like well how come it hasn't always been like that Lord how come I'm not always feeling close to you you ever get that like we talk about getting closer to the Lord and you're like well how come I don't have that right now how do you feel distant or kind of far right now and maybe you're in that space and if you are that's who I want to talk to this morning where it can feel like God is as far or you you feel like you're always living on the edge of like oh no I got it I got to make sure I'm praying and reading this because I got to make sure I'm doing everything right so God doesn't doesn't withdraw himself from me I don't want him to to flee from me and you know you feel like God can be distant sometimes I know there's times in my life where I'll do things like when I feel like the Lord's far I'll go for a drive and I'll buckle the seat belt in the passenger next to me pretend like Jesus is riding with me and I'll talk to him I'm like I'm doing it because I'm the Lord I don't feel you right now but I'm doing this to remind me that you are here with me you know I do things like that and Even the spirit of truth, talking about the Holy Spirit, whom the world cannot receive because it neither sees him or knows him, but you know him for he dwells with you and he will be in you.
I love that Jesus didn't say here, look y'all, I'm leaving, I'm gonna go, I'm gonna die on the cross, I'm gonna send back to the Father, but don't worry, I left you a really good book for you to read, it's called the Bible. Don't worry, I know you struggle with reading, I know your ADHD has the attention span of a goldfish and you forget every 10 minutes what you're trying to do, but don't worry, I left you the book, good luck. Some of you are like I'm cooked, I don't know how I'm gonna do this, I can't, I'm reading so hard, but what you see in the Trinity, it's not Father's Son, Holy Bible, it's Father's Son, Holy Spirit. And the Spirit wants to continue to minister the presence and words in life and power of Jesus in your life. And so the problem today, I believe isn't that God is distant and has withdrawn his presence from us, it's that we struggle to experience his presence that's already dwelling within. And that's the Holy Spirit, I want to help you today, step into that and this isn't a modern problem, this is an ancient problem as well, why don't you turn to Ephesians chapter 3 starting in verse 16. Where the church in Ephesus is struggling with this as well, feeling like God is a little bit far because the Apostle Paul who planted this church is now imprisoned in suffering and he's far from them and they're feeling the distress and the rest of this situation, life is pressing on them and following Jesus isn't like what they thought it was gonna be like it is difficult and hard within their community and the world pressures around them, the threats of imprisonment and suffering. And so they're struggling and in a few verses prior, Paul writes them to not be discouraged, don't lose heart, I know everything around you looks like God is far, but this is what he prays for them and for us. He says, "I pray that out of his glorious riches, God may strengthen you with power through his spirit in your inner being so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith and I pray that you being rooted and established in love, you may have power together with all the Lord's holy people to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ. And to know this love that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God." If you're a note taker today, this is the direction we're headed entitled my teaching and that is when God feels far, when God feels far. Let's pray and let Holy Spirit teach us today. Would you pray with me? Father, thank you for your word. Thank you for your eternal word which you spoke through your Son Jesus and Jesus. I know you are here by the presence of the Holy Spirit and you're going to minister to our hearts. So would you encourage us for those who are feeling broken and defeated and need uplifting? Would you challenge us and convict us in the areas we have been ignoring and hiding in the dark. Call us back to the light where your freedom and grace is so you have a good plan for us. If you just speak that word only, you can speak today right to our hearts, Lord, we pray. We pray we'd be able to receive in full in Jesus' name and y'all would say, amen, amen. Now, I want you to notice Paul's prayer here. Paul doesn't pray that God would love them more. Like, look, y'all, you guys, there are some real difficult children. I have to pray, Father, would you love them more? I know it's tough. He doesn't pray in this prayer when they're going through troubles and they feel God's far in their heart. They're losing heart and feeling discouraged. You didn't pray. Well, you know, if you just get a little bit stronger, have a little bit more endurance than maybe, maybe you'd feel that. He doesn't put the emphasis on this prayer on things they must do and get done. The prayer is on a different source of power already residing in them and that's the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit. Now, the Holy Spirit is not these I want to clarify because I know I talk to people all the time who are like, I just never really heard about the Holy Spirit growing up. I'm going to tell you what the Holy Spirit isn't first. He is not the heebie-jeebies you get in the church, okay? He's not those chills you feel.
Ooh, is that you, Holy Spirit? That's not what it is, okay? He's not confined to a feeling. All right, I know you get that tingle in your big right toe when you're worshiping and you're like, "Oh, that's you, Lord." You know, I know it's something you get there, right? I'm just kidding. And it's not the feeling, okay? The Holy Spirit is not this Jedi force us Christians have. You know, it's not this just malleable liquid power that just moves around in people. He's a part of the Godhead. And Paul prays for us to experiencing a reality that is already true that we need to rest in. What does he pray in verse 16? He prays that God may strengthen you with power through his spirit in your inner being, meaning the spirit is within us. The Holy Spirit wants to strengthen you from the inside so that way when life around you on the outside starts shaking everything up, you can stay standing. The proof of his presence in your life is not that your life is problem-free. It's that you have the strength to stay standing. It's that he's never gonna leave you or forsake you. It's that he promised he'd be with you. So Paul prays for this strength within them to give them a stability underneath them. And what is that stability, that security, that thing that grounds us all, that the Holy Spirit wants to make real, it's the love of Christ. The Holy Spirit wants to anchor us to Christ's love. He wants to anchor you to Christ's love. First thing he wants to do in your heart and life, and we see that in verses 16 through 17,
let me unpack that. He prayed out of the glorious riches, God would strengthen you with power through his spirit in your inner being so that a connection. Why Christ made you well in your hearts through faith? And I pray that you'd be rooted and established in love. Paul has given us two pictures here, an agricultural picture and an architectural picture. He's saying, I pray that the spirit would root you in God's love, like a tree roots that go down and stay there that when the storms of life come, this tree stays standing. I pray that you would be established in this love of Christ that is dwelling already within you. Not that you have to deserve it. It is already dwelling within you. Like a building when the ground shakes it stays standing. It's got a firm foundation. That's the picture he's praying here. It's an anchoring, it's anchoring language. Now, how many of you know if you are on a boat and you anchor your boat to another boat? What's gonna happen? You're gonna drift, it ain't gonna help you. You're just gonna keep going. In some of us, that's what we're doing in life. We are anchoring our life to other boats and not the foundation of Christ.
We are anchoring ourselves to relationships and we wonder why we're feeling this frantic and panic because things aren't going well with that. Well, they're not your foundation, he is. We are anchoring ourselves to our job success and our identity at work. And so then maybe you don't perform well or something happens beyond your control. Everything starts shaking because your anchor was on another boat and not the firm foundation, the rock Jesus Christ. You've been anchoring yourself into feelings of how good you've been doing spiritually even. Oh, I'm doing good this week. God, surely you must be close to me. No, you must anchor yourself in what he says, in Christ, in Christ's love. He is your anchor. Not your love for him, but his care for you. It's great you love Jesus, bless God. You ought to keep loving them more. But that's not your anchor 'cause we know our faith falters were weak one day strong in the next. You doubt one day, you question about it, should I even believe, should I even keep following? We all do this at times. That's not your anchor. Your anchor is not on your faithful grip on him. It's on his faithful grip to you.
And he promised he'd never pluck you. He'd never let anything pluck you from his hand. He's got you. He's holding onto you. Your security is not based on your spiritual devotional life. Your security is based on the unchanging love of Christ that he showed on the cross. Come on, it's not in your grip, y'all. The, how close God wants to be to you is not just on your grip. If so, if that peace and security was dependent on your grip of what you could do, I'm here to tell you, it's gonna be like sand falling through your fingertips. Don't look at your hands, look to his. Those nail pierced hands that proved it, that he would do anything to draw close to you. Then nothing would separate him from his love for you. Not a single thing. His love doesn't waver a change. It's the same yesterday, today, and forever more. And for any of you in here that decided to walk in here today and feel like, oh man, God, I don't know if you could love me after that. He's already decided before you even thought that in your head. He was gonna love you, and nothing in this life is ever gonna change his mind about you. You only love him 'cause he first love you. He wants to strengthen you with that reality. And we, as parents, my wife Zoe and I,
we try to get this to be a real thing in our kids' lives. Our daughter, Arya, is in softball. And man, she is an athlete, y'all. I'll tell you what, sorry young kids in the room, but if you're 12 and under, I'm telling you she could. No matter if you're a boy, she's kicking your butt in the sport. No matter what it is, she is an athlete, y'all. And she's so hard on herself because she does so well. I mean, she'll do soft. And she was all down on herself, and it could have been 18. I'm like, Aria, what are you talking about? You did amazing. And she's like, no, no. And she's like, for whatever reason, feeling like we're not proud of her in that. We're like, Aria, it wouldn't matter if you got zero strikeouts, or you did the full 18 through. We are so proud of you. Nothing is going to change our love and proudness of you. We are just so proud to call you our daughter, and to be there to see you. You put a smile on our face. And you can see it encourages her. When she realizes, oh, it's not based on my performance, this love and proudness. And how much more our heavenly father for us, if we could do that for our daughter with sports, how much more in our spiritual life with him, does he love you and he's committed to you? He's proud of you, church.
We need a repent of our self-righteousness. We need a repent of that performance mentality you have, thinking you're somehow now going to earn his closeness. It was purchased through his precious blood. Can I talk about the love of Christ here? Let's continue. Ephesians 3, 18 through 19, he continues the prayer. He says, you may have, praise, you may have power together with all the Lord's holy people to grasp what, how wide, long, high and deep is the love of Christ. And to know this love that surpasses knowledge. I try to make these things a reality, like we said with my daughter, Aria, and we're trying to do this with our son, Vail as well. And so at bedtime, I always tell Vail before bed, we'll do our night prayers and we'll have this thing we do. I don't know, parents, if you ever have the, I love you more battle with your kids. When they're young, it's so cute. And I'm like, Vail, you wanna know how much I love you? How much that? I love you this much. He's, oh, yeah, dad, why I love you this much? You know, he does that, like, oh, I can't beat that son. Wow, you just love me so much. And so then I'll tell him, I'll ask him things, you know, 'cause we'll try to talk about Christ in the home and I'll say, well, son, how do you know Jesus loves you? He goes, 'cause he did this for me.
And we see in the text how wide the love of Christ is for us. So wide Jesus stretched out his arms on the crosswear. So wide that it gathers sinners from every corner of the earth all around the world, every tribe been tongue to worship the lion. How long is the love of Christ? Long before time even began, long before you were even born, before you even knit together in your mother's room, he knew you and chose you and predestined you as a son or daughter in his kingdom to adopt you. Long before you even thought anything about him and repented of your sins, he proved his love for you for dying on the cross for you while you were still an enemy in a sinner. How high is the love of Christ for you? High enough to where he could raise sinners out of a grave going to hell and seek them in heavenly places with him where we could be called children of God for all of eternity. How deep is the love of Christ for you? Deep enough for him to leave heaven's throne and to go to a God forsaken darkness for you and I that we were deserving of that he committed himself to. How great is the love of Christ that's lavished on us? I could preach this all day, but my words are gonna fall short. You need the Holy Spirit to make this come alive in your heart. And I pray that he would and that's what he wants to do. This is the second thing, not only does the Holy Spirit
wanna anchor you to Christ's love, but he wants you to abide in it. He wants you to abide in it. Anchor means this is true, you can trust this. Abide means let me make this real to you over and over and time and time again. Abide means let me connect you to it. Let me allow life to flow from this reality. That's what the Holy Spirit wants to do. He doesn't want it to just be something you intellectually know. He wants it to be something you internally live out of. What good is it if we have, if we're full of ideas about God, but we're empty of that intimate experience of him? Honestly, Jesus talks about abiding. He says it to the disciples when he's leaving and John 15 verse nine, he says it also prior before he says the word abide quite a few times of this chapter and he describes what this abiding is. And I love it, John 15, nine, he says, as the father is love me, so I have loved you. The same love that God the father has for the son, he has for us. I mean, that blows my mind right there. That caused you to stop that scripture right there. So then what does he continue to say? Now abide in what, in my love. Let my love become a living reality in your life that what, as we saw in verse 16 in Ephesians, it will strengthen you with power. It will root you and establish you in life
when everything is shaken. His love will give you strength to keep going, give you wisdom to understand what's happening that he never leaves you. Did you make this a reality to us, God? [BLANK_AUDIO] There's two phrases I want to unpack here. One is the word grasp and in the Greek it's kata lambano, which means to take hold of, to take possession of, to make one's own. It means literally to grab it, to feel it, it's concrete, intangible, and real now. He says, I want that to be God's love. I don't want it to be something you just hear in a sermon. I want you to be able to grasp it. To feel it with your senses, to have a spiritual apprehension of it. And then he goes on to say, to know the love of Christ, that's beyond knowledge. To know it, that word in the Greek, there's gnoscope. It's a word learned. It's a word used for first hand knowledge. You've actually done it yourself. It's actually a word used for spouses who know each other intimately. It's the deepest knowing you can have. That's what he says about his love. He didn't want it to be just something cute. You're writing your Bible on a stick, you know, you put on your bathroom wall and your mind yourself every morning. Oh, that's right. God loves me. He wants you to feel it. He wants it to be real. Holy Spirit is not like, well, come on, you dodo bird, having you read the Bible.
Of course, God loves you. Geez, how many times we got to remind you of this. That's not the Holy Spirit's posture. The Holy Spirit's posture is this joyful delight of persuading you that you are still loved. He wants to overwhelm you with the grace of God. He wants to corner you with mercy where there's nowhere else you can go but to receive that love. He's willing to go that far. He will go down any path to pursue you with that great love and make it a reality in your life. You can't outrun it. Can't outrun it. Romans 5.5 gives us a beautiful picture of this, talking about God's love. God's love has been poured out, it says, into our hearts how through the Holy Spirit it has been given to us. You notice the word there? It says poured, not explained, poured. It's this drinking language, this receiving language. He pours it into your heart. Other translations would say shed abroad. He opens your eyes as Ephesians 1.18 says, he opens the eyes of your heart. He enlightens them. He helps you to see through almost a sixth sense the reality of what is. The Holy Spirit makes heaven and earth paper thin. He merges the two, marries the two in your heart and life. That's what he wants to do. He wants to make it real. We tell our kids because they're young, we always are trying new foods. My wife's always making some great new foods for dinner and we're trying new desserts and I remember when we had the kids try cheesecake for the first time.
It's my wife and I's favorite. I love cheesecake. Any cheesecake fans? Come on. That's a Jesus fan. If you're a cheesecake fan. You know it. That's how I know. That's how I know. And I remember we were telling the kids, oh, they're like cheesecake. It's a black of cheese in a cake. No, no, you don't understand. The softness, the creaminess, the crunch, the crumble of the grain. I know. I know. Forgive me. Forgive me. You describe it all day, but my words will fall short until you taste it. So you taste that cheesecake, factory cheesecake, a Oreo cheesecake. The strawberry. I'm just going to stop here. I'm going to be falling to the Seneglutney here. We don't want this in church. Don't forget me. Yeah, I know, I know. So we have the kids try it and then I remember the kids are trying to end their eyes lit up. And now they love it. They always ask for it. And then we try to get some spicy stuff into their foods.
And for whatever reason, Aria and our daughter, Ari, who's 11 and our newborn Roman, who's 10 months, they can handle spicy, which is crazy. But my son, Vail, who's five, I don't know what's up with this kid. Pepper is too hot for him. He has to go to the bathroom. And one time, Aria gave him gum because he was crying. I want the gum. Ari, come on. Give me some gum. And he's chewing it. And I see through the window as we're driving a tear rolling down his eye. And I'm like, "Vail, you okay?" He goes, "I'm pushing through the pain, Dad." I'm like, "What do you mean? It's too spicy." And it was a mint gum. I'm like, "Bro, come on. That's true story, y'all. This just happened." I'm like, "Son, really? Come on. Told you it was good." Do you see? We could describe these things, but until you taste it. Psalm 34.8 says, "Taste and see that the Lord is good." That's what the Holy Spirit wants to do today. The Holy Spirit wants to take whatever has been lodged in here and make it a reality in here. And it doesn't matter how good or bad I preach. It doesn't matter how much scripture you read.
the Holy Spirit must persuade your heart of this thing. He must make it a reality. So ask him, would you ask him? Ask the Holy Spirit to make it real to you. You must. And you don't get this because you've had a good enough spiritual grade this week. It says that in the verse, he's been given to you. By grace, not by grade, by grace. You don't gotta have your spiritual report card all A's this week. He still wants to show you his love, as he loves you, by grace. By grace, not 'cause you performed enough or proven yourself enough, but because he promised he would. Thanks, Lord. And I understand when I say that, there are some in here and you say, "Well, I'd love to buy it in that reality." But right now it's hard. Right now it's hard to know that God is close to me because of the pain I'm feeling. There's a difficulty in pressure in life. You just don't get, Jordan. You don't understand what's happened. Suffering sometimes can make God seem so, so far, doesn't it? Pain can make God seem so, so far away. And it's hard to say, God, I would love to abide in your love, but where are you?
And I had one of these moments not too long ago where I was in the bathroom on my knees, just crying before the Lord. Just praying and weeping, broken. And I said, I was trying to quote scripture to myself. You know, to try to encourage myself and the Lord, but maybe you've done that and it feels like it's not getting anywhere, right? Mom, we can be real in here. I'm quoting Jesus, you're a man of sorrows, well acquainted with grief. I'm quoting, Lord, you promise you're close to the brokenhearted. I'm quoting Jesus, you empathize with us. I'm quoting all those things and yet that feeling, right? It just feels like, where are you? And I remember as I'm just sitting there in the quiet, just listening 'cause I'm like, I don't know where else to go. I remember the Holy Spirit whispered a phrase to me. He said, Jordan, I know, the grief is great. I'm with you. And he whispered that phrase and to you and I, we can hear that and it may not mean nothing to you, but that phrase emboldened me, it made my heart come alive, it strengthened me. 'Cause I knew he never leaves me in forsaken, but then I knew in that moment, he made it a reality to me, that I was not grieving alone,
that I was not wounded alone, but there was another who was wounded right beside me and with me and in me dwelling there, knowing that his wounds were preeminent to mine and I found power in that moment when I married myself to him in that moment through the power of the Spirit. And I said, God, I can relate to you 'cause you relate to me, you understand suffering and grief. And the Holy Spirit made my heart come alive. And he wants to do the same with you, church. You need that, you need the Holy Spirit to make the love of Christ real to you. I love what Ephesians 2, 13 says a chapter before this prayer. Paul makes something real clear to them 'cause they're struggling in conflict in the church and he says this, Ephesians 2, 13, but now, not later, now, you who once were far off, you once were far when you didn't follow the Lord. You once were far when Jesus wasn't your savior. You once were far, but you have been brought near by the blood of Christ. You have not been brought near by your spiritual devotional life. You've been brought near by the blood of Christ. There was nothing more you can earn or do. He's already done all the work. He's brought you to his throne. And by faith, you can sit there in heavenly places by the spirit of God and receive grace and mercy
in your time and need. Not because you finally earned it enough in life, but because of his blood has earned it for you. His precious blood, church, this must be a reality you live in. Or you will live in self-righteousness and the spiritual performance mentality and it will leak its way into everything else in your life, into your parenting, into your work life, into the way you view yourself and you will constantly feel defeated and not good enough. You must live in this reality. You who say Christ, where are you in this suffering? How can we say that to God when he still bears the wounds? When forever he lives with the marks on his sides and hands and feet and brow, the marks of his suffering he forever lives with. He is not distant from suffering. He comes in close, he knows suffering. And his suffering is preeminent to yours and you can experience him even in your times of suffering just as powerful as in your times of flourishing. The Lord is close to you and loves you. Look to the wounds of Jesus. He loves you and he forever lives with that mark of love. Thanks, Lord. You know, I even think of the image of a body. The wounds, the blood pouring out of his wounds. You know where the blood comes from, right? All the blood in our body gets pumped from our heart.
You want to know God's heart for you? He gave you the forever message by seeing those wounds on the cross where the blood comes from. He says, I love you. My heart is still with you, even in suffering. I've never left you. Look to the wounds of Christ. He's nearer than you think. He's always beside you. And I don't know any other way than to make this a reality in your heart than by abiding. Then by time spent with him, church, there is no secret. There is no special secret we pastors have. We're just like everybody else, time spent with Jesus. There is no other way than time spent with Jesus. There is no, nothing can replace the secret place. Nothing, nothing you do or learn. You must be with him. You need these spiritual rhythms in your life to rely on, to get you to him when your feelings make you feel far, to get you at the foot of the cross, and to see him in his heart for you. How you've been brought near through his wounds and his blood. You need these things to bypass your feelings. That's scripture reading, it's prayer, it's worship, it's fasting, it's community life with God's body. You need these things in your life. Cling to him. Can't just live off of a two hour Sunday gathering. You can't imagine just living off a one meal every week.
I mean, that's what some of us were doing. You can't do that, he wants to be daily bread to you. So start simple and small, you know, sustainable for some of us. It's okay, you don't need to start the grandiose and hour every morning, hour every evening. Don't set yourself up for failure. You just start simple and sustainable, okay. It's how I began, it's how we all begin. Don't beat yourself up because yesterday you prayed 30 minutes and today you only prayed 10. God's not up there with a golf clap the other day. Wow, look at this guy, he means business. You're not, that's not what he is. He's a proud father, just loves to be with you. Don't beat yourself up, he's not doing that. Not disappointed in you. It's better to engage one verse in the day meaningfully and to appropriate it to your heart and to apply it and let Holy Spirit make come alive than reading a chapter religiously. Now, of course, you don't want to stay in that one verse place, you want to move on, but it's about meaningfully engaging with this presence, abiding with him. Stop putting that pressure on you of a time length and always in an amount you're going to read and just create space to be with him. And if that means stay at home, moms, you got to do that when the kids nap
and then I know it's tough, right? It's like when people say you just nap when the kid naps. Well, nothing's going to get done in the house then. I get it right, yeah, it's frustrating. I hear it. There's always a space where the Holy Spirit can whisper that great love as you're loving your child and shushing them to sleep and they're crying. God's going to remind you, hey, and you're suffering. I do the same thing I hold you just as you're holding that newborn. Fathers who are out working and you're tired, it's already 9.15 in the morning and you're already done with work today and you're breaking your back to provide for your family. I want you to know the Lord Jesus carried the cross on his back for you to provide for you and he relates to you in the difficulty of the job when you're tired to keep going. He'll meet you and whisper strength and encouragement. He'll inject purpose into you while you're at work. He wants to meet you. You don't have to just do it in a gathering like this. He wants to meet you where you're at student who is studying at school. He wants you to learn from his word and his voice. He wants to meet you. Of course, we're going to experience his presence here in beautiful, powerful ways, but he wants it to be beyond here.
You got to abide in his love and I'm telling you, when you do that, something really cool happens. Let's read the final verse here. Ephesians 3, 19 through 21. So when you're receiving from Christ's love abiding in it, you're anchored to it. Watch what happens. Why? That you may be filled with the measure of the fullness of God. You might be more like him. You might know him in full. And he says now to him who is able to do it measurably more than oh, we ask or imagine according to his power at work within us. Come on, when you're living in it, the Holy Spirit has more he wants to do in your life. And it'll be by his power he does it better than you could ask, better than you could imagine, better than any thought you have for your future. He's got more to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever, amen. That's what he wants to do. The Holy Spirit will help us to act on Christ's love. That's the last thing. and now you act it out throughout the week to other people. You get to declare and show the love of God, make it real to them too, so they can be invited in to receive. Come on, that's the best part.
To participate with him. Come on, man, remember when you were a kid and you get invited to do things by your older siblings or your parents, aunts, uncles, or cousins, the people you look up to, and they let you do something. I mean, you're excited to do it with him. So what he wants to do, he wants to invite you into it. And he doesn't fill us with the Holy Spirit, just so we can feel full and put our nose up to everybody else, walk out to the Spirit of God. It's not to feel full, it's so you can overflow. Not just so you can get some knowledge, be a spiritual glutton with everything that you learned, it's so you can pour it out and share it. He pours it in you so he can get it through you. Quit hoarding it, quit keeping it. Come on, some of you, you have put off hosting a Bible study, hosting a group here at Ingeti. Come on, some of you have been following Jesus for a while now, and there's some people that need mentoring and discipling, come on, get on it. He's been pouring into you, it's time for you to pour it out. - You know, my wife was praying and she's been going through a mental health journey with anxiety and panic attacks. She's been trying medicine and obviously praying and counseling and all that, and it's still just been really, really wreaking havoc on her. And she's been praying and she's been making beautiful progress, I'm so proud of her
and what the Lord's doing in her. And but what she was praying, just letting God love on her reminder, God, I know you still love me even though I have this struggle. It's been years, but I know you still love me. She felt the Holy Spirit whisper to her to start a stay at home moms group for those who struggle with mental health and when she decided to put that out, she said that girls had already been reaching out to her saying that's exactly what I've been praying for and I need that and my wife is like this. She hasn't mastered and perfected that at all but she's a wounded healer in this and that's what we all are, broken servants of the Lord. And it's been so cool to see how it's been an answer to prayer to some ladies and if that's you and you need to be in that group, you can head to our website for that. But I'm so proud of the way she's letting God love on her even through struggle and to not let struggle be the excuse to stop her from serving the Lord. I mean, you gotta be perfect and of course, there's a season where hey, there's certain areas, maybe you can't serve in certain leadership that maybe you gotta step back in, but the Lord always wants to use you as a servant and she's gonna serve the Lord as a wounded healer in this season. I just love the way she hears from the Lord, man. Here's from Holy Spirit.
She's always encouraging me and challenging me. Fellas, I'll tell you what, it's a little nugget of wisdom. Listen to your woman, listen to your wife. Tell you what, they oftentimes hear from the Lord months before us. Amen ladies, I do. I'm like, baby, how'd you know that? Been wrestling with that, my God, the Lord told. And we may be head of the household, but sometimes we ain't using our head, okay? Listen, listen, all right? Listen, I'm gonna be stubborn. And so I listened to my wife and she was like, Jordan, you know, sometimes you're a little short and annoyed with these door-to-door salesmen that come to our home. I said, you're right, babe, they always come at the worst time, so oh my goodness. We're having dinner, just start dinner in my family and they come knocking, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo. Hey, I see you need a new roof. You know, I'm like, oh my gosh, you know, do their pitch. Hey, I was talking to Bob down the street, Bob down the roof, figured I'd get you. Not trying to sell you anything, trying to save you money. I'm like, I know Bob, he lives right there. We just hung out yesterday, gave me my weed wacker. He ain't getting no new roof, nice try, buddy. (audience laughing) You know, and my wife's seeing this,
I'm like, I know I probably shouldn't be like, so she's like, maybe God wants to do something, Jordan. I said, okay, maybe. So I come home right from, I forget my lunch. I forget my lunch. And my wife's like, just come home, grab lunch, I got it for you. So I go home and I see this guy on his segue coming down the street. I'm like, ah, darn it. So I hurry up, run inside the house. I'm like, baby, I gotta go back to work. Thanks so much. Love you, thanks for the lunch. Doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo. So I go to the door. She's like, hey, Jordan. I go, you got it, babe. I gotta remember, all right. God, you've loved me and other people need your love. Open the door and God gives me the spiel about my roofing windows and all that stuff. And I felt prompted by the spirit in that moment to ask him, you know, man, how come you're doing this? Look, you're doing this job. Why'd you choose this? And I just asked a simple question. And he didn't even answer the question. He just starts unloading his story. He goes, well, I was adopted and my parents kicked me out
when I turned 18 and I'm living in GR now with a friend and I'm really struggling. I'm wondering where God is and why God would let a father do this to me and how is he a good father? And he just starts going out in a store of tears, just opening up. And I go, hey, man, I want you to know God loves you. He's a father of a father, so can I pray for you? And I just start praying with that. Holy Spirit is just ministering to this. And he said after the prayer, he's like, "Wow, because you think I should get baptized?" And I'm like, "Yeah, man, if you want to make Jesus your Lord and Savior, I think that's the thing to do." So, yeah, yeah. I think I'm going to go get baptized now. I'm like, "Alright, man, yeah." And we got a baptism coming up out in Getty Church. I'm actually a pastor there. "No way. You're a pastor. Well, God is real." I'm like, "Yeah, he is, man." My wife's sitting on the couch, and then he walks away and I go, "Hey, man, weren't you supposed to give me a flyer for my windows?" "Oh, yeah. All right. Here you go." And, man, I just... The Lord wants to get His love through you to people, and sometimes we make it so complicated.
Let's follow the prompts of the Spirit. He wants to minister through you and share His love. I don't know others. And this young man needed that. And I know there's a bunch of young men like that, young women like that, and other folks like that, that we have the opportunity to encounter and share the love of Christ through to persuade them that God loves them too. And Matthew 5-7 says this, "I'll close it with this. Jesus says, "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. Your gracious unto others, and God will pour His grace abundantly unto you. But the inverse is true. You withhold grace and love and mercy from others, and no wonder it feels like God's love is far from you too. You're the reason God feels so far is because you're withholding the same love He wants to give you from others who deserve it. You didn't deserve it. You ain't undeserved, but Christ says you're worth it. And He showed it on the cross. And I don't know where you're at today, but maybe you don't know the love of Christ, but I want it to be real to you, because Christ wants it to be real to you. And He showed it at the cross for you and I. And if there's anybody in here and you would say, "I'm not following Jesus. I have been struggling. I've been in pain. I've been, I've been broken." With every head bowed and eyes closed, I just want to offer up an opportunity for anybody here in the sound of my voice if you want to receive the love of Christ, the gift of salvation through Jesus. You can have it today. It can be yours today by faith.
You receive it freely given, as Jesus took your sins upon the cross. So you could have His life. And if there's anybody in here in the sound of my voice and you'd say, "I need Jesus today. I need the life He gives." All I want you to do is just slip up your hand and say, "Yeah, that's me. I want to put my trust in Jesus. I want Him to forgive me of my sins, wash me, make me brand new, give me a life of purpose and hope." Yeah. Yeah. You put your hand up. You're declaring my faith right now to the Lord. You're saying, "God, I need you." That's what your hand said. "God, I need you." And Heavenly Father, I pray right now for my friends. Thank you for sending your son, Jesus, to die in the cross for our sins and raising him to new life so we can have new life in you. And we confess, we are sinners needing forgiveness, and so Jesus, would you forgive us? Make us clean. Make us brand new today by your precious blood that was shed for me. Help me to follow you by the power of your spirit. I believe you are the Lord and Savior, and you are risen in new life, and I can have new life in you, and I receive that now by faith. And Jesus' name, and you would say, "Amen." Amen. Hey, can we celebrate new life right now? All those who prayed that prayer. Bless God. We're so grateful if I have you come home with the Lord in us, and hey, we got some
