Hello, my name is Victor Martinez, and here we are in the day-to-day, reflecting on the book of Josué. Today I am in chapter 10, and one of the things I have been thinking about today is about this story of Josué and the battle he is in. Not because he was a rebel, but because, on the contrary, he had decided to do something that he felt was right, and yet he is in this position. I don't know if it has happened to you, that at some point you have to deal with a tension, or with something you didn't expect, as a result of making the right decision to do good. Maybe they were honest and paid the consequences, or maybe they tried to help someone and ended up in trouble. Here we see Josué, as I had said, supporting a group of people in the area of Israel, while they are working on the conquest. They are called the Gabaonites. And in this process, the Gabaonites are in danger of being attacked by a group of kings or nations. And Josué is in the middle of this battle, and they have to depend on God so that God helps them with the battle. However, I want to reflect a little about this, because a large part of my recent life story is about feeling how obedient I have been to God. I have said yes to God, and I would think that when I am obedient to God, all things would be resolved. However, despite the fact that I have been extremely blessed, I have also seen consequences of the obedience or resistance that the enemy brings to our lives. And I want you to think a little about that, how in your life have you been impacted by doing something to try to help someone or improve the life of another person. For me personally, my wife and I have said yes to support the Latino community, to support the migrant community specifically. We felt a call in that area to be able to bring the love of God practically, spiritually, to these people. And we have seen during that process some very miraculous provisions. We have seen relationships and connections that we could not orchestrate on our own. However, we have also seen moments that have been a little more difficult, a little more painful, specifically around the area of our finances. We have lived moments where we feel that, on the one hand, God strengthens us, but on the other hand, some things in our financial situation become more fragile. And in these moments where one is serving, where one is obeying, sowing, accompanying others. Also within one, sometimes we ask ourselves, God, how are you going to sustain all this? God, if you are here, if we are being faithful, if we need to see you move in our lives, where are you? And the interesting thing is that I know that God has told me many times, Hey, be brave, I am calling you to this, do not be afraid. And this, many times, is shared by other people through the ministry. There are others who trust in God, who continue to walk, that God is faithful and that they should not be afraid. And at the same time, I am also learning one thing, and that is to encourage others to have faith and we to live our faith. When our battle is the one that is impacting us in our house, it is difficult. And I preach courage while I am still learning to live there.
And that does not make me a hypocrite, on the contrary, it makes me a genuine person who is still walking with God. And this is what we see that Joshua does. God has told Joshua, do not be afraid. And Joshua, in this chapter, is telling other people, do not be afraid. Not because there was going to be no danger. On the contrary, it is said in moments of facing danger. However, God's promise does not eliminate the battle. What it does is that God reminds Joshua that he is not fighting alone. And maybe that word is for us today. It is not that avoiding doing the right thing or avoiding doing something wrong will free us or cause a battle. On the contrary, sometimes we are going to be in a battle. Obeying God is not always going to feel like something stable. Sometimes it feels like something that brings fatigue, that brings tension, that brings uncertainty. And it requires us to pray again and put ourselves in a position with God again. Where we say, God, I need you to fight for me. I need you to provide for me in these moments. So if you are in a similar situation where you feel that you are in a battle, that you have no way out. And you are in this battle specifically because you have decided to do things right. I invite you to, like me, invite God. It does not mean that you are going to solve everything immediately. But it may be that in the book of Joshua, chapter 10, we see something impressive. Not only does God fight for his people, but extremely miraculous things happen. God confuses the enemy. God intervenes. God responds, and Joshua dares to make a bold prayer in the midst of the sun. He asks God to stop the sun. And what happens? The sun stops. And this confronts me too, because sometimes my prayers become a little small during my problems. Specifically, while my problems get bigger. And sometimes I pray just to survive, because God provides me at the moment. However, God is willing to do something stronger for my life. So I ask for strength to endure, but I also want to ask for strength for a miracle. Today, I feel that I need to return to the Ark of the Covenant, and not from a place of pride, not from a place of demand, not trying to manipulate my circumstances, but from a place of dependence. A prayer that says, God, if you have called me to this, to me and my wife, or to these people who are listening, we ask that you support us. We ask that you allow us to be brave and to be able to fight this battle. If we are walking in fidelity, show us your fidelity in a way that only you can explain, Lord.
Let us recognize that faith is not denying that the battle exists. Faith is looking at the battle and saying, God, you have brought me here and I need you to fight with me. So I encourage you, because if you are in the middle of the battle, be brave, do not falter, continue. Maybe this battle was not the one you were looking for, or maybe it was. The reality is that if you are willing, give your heart to God and surrender your plans to Him. God wants to fight with you, and God is willing to do miraculous things in your life, through you, and in other people. So go ahead, be strong, God is with you.
