Day 69: What if you can’t apologize to them in person?

A lot of the names on your list, you can’t get to. You’re locked up. They’re out of state. They’re not safe to be around. They’re not interested in talking to you. The relationship is over.

That doesn’t end the work.

TODAY’S TRUTH You can do the apology work even when you can’t have the conversation.

THE READ “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” — Romans 12:18

Two qualifiers in there. If it is possible. As far as it depends on you. Sometimes it isn’t possible. Sometimes the part that depends on you is the only part you can do.

In your own words — what's this saying to you?

THE REAL The full version of an apology has four parts: name what you did, own the impact, ask for forgiveness, do what you can to make it right.

When you can’t get to the person, you can still do parts of it. You just have to do them in different ways.

Write it. Write the apology you’d say if you could. Specific. Owning. No excuses. Don’t send it (yet, or ever — depending). Just write it. The writing itself does work in you.

Pray it. Tell God the whole thing. Out loud. Name the person. Name what you did. Name the harm. Ask Him to handle what you can’t handle yourself. He can do things you can’t.

Live differently going forward. A lot of the time, the “apology” the person needs from you most is for you to never do it again — to anyone. They might never know you stopped. God knows. The next person whose path you cross knows, even if they don’t know what they’re being spared from.

The fact that you can’t get to the person doesn’t mean the work doesn’t happen. It just means the work happens in a different shape than you wanted.

Sometimes, later, the door opens. You get out. They reach out. There’s a chance to say it. If that day comes, you’ll be ready. The work was already done.

PULL UP Who’s on your list that you can’t apologize to in person? Why?

Write it out — don't just think it:

THE MOVE Today, write the apology to one person you can’t get to. Don’t send it. Just write it. The whole thing.

Did it today?  ☐ Yes   ☐ Not yet — what happened when you did?

TRACK IT What was it like to write it?
