Day 40: The lies you’ve believed about yourself for years. | The Walk Out
Some of the things you believe about yourself are true. Most aren’t. The ones that aren’t true have been doing damage for years.
Today we name them.
TODAY’S TRUTH The lies you believe about yourself are still lies, no matter how long you’ve believed them.
THE READ “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” — John 8:32
Free from what? Among other things, from the lies. The lies are a prison. Truth opens the door.
In your own words — what's this saying to you?
THE REAL Here are some lies a lot of us believe. Check the ones that have lived in your head:
- I’m too damaged to be loved.
- Nobody would want me if they really knew me.
- I am the worst thing I’ve ever done.
- I’m not as smart/attractive/strong/funny/whatever as everyone else.
- Everything I touch falls apart eventually.
- I can’t be trusted.
- I will always be alone.
- God might forgive me but He won’t actually like me.
- I’m a fraud and people will figure it out.
- I have to earn the right to take up space.
- If I really tried and failed, I’d never recover. So I won’t really try.
Pick the one that hits hardest. That’s the one to look at today.
The thing about these lies: they feel like facts. They feel like the way the world is. You don’t experience them as lies — you experience them as just the truth about yourself.
But every one of those statements is a lie. None of them is what God says about you. None of them is what’s actually true about a person made in His image and loved by Him.
Naming the lie doesn’t kill it. But it makes it visible. Once you can see it as a lie, you can fight it.
PULL UP Which lie hit hardest? Where did it come from? Whose voice gave it to you?
Write it out — don't just think it.
THE MOVE Today, every time you hear that lie in your head, say out loud (or in your head if you can’t): “That’s a lie.”
Did it today? ☐ Yes ☐ Not yet — what happened when you did?
TRACK IT How many times did you call out the lie?
