Day 35: Where that story came from — and who handed it to you. | The Walk Out

The story you’re telling yourself didn’t come from nowhere. It was handed to you.

TODAY’S TRUTH You did not write the story you’ve been telling yourself. Other people did.

THE READ “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” — 2 Corinthians 10:5

That word “captive” matters. Paul is saying: thoughts run wild. Catch them. Look at them. Decide whether to keep them.

THE REAL Yesterday you started noticing the story. Today, trace it back.

The I’m always behind story — where did that come from? Probably a parent who couldn’t slow down for you. A teacher who kept comparing you to your sibling. A coach. A boss. Somebody planted that seed. You watered it.

The nobody really knows the real me story — where did that come from? Probably a moment when you tried to be known and got hurt. The vulnerability got punished. You decided not to risk it again.

The if people knew what I’d done they’d leave story — where did that come from? Probably from people who actually did leave when they found out. Or people who said they’d love you no matter what and then proved themselves liars.

Every story has an origin. Tracing it doesn’t make it true. It makes it visible. And the second you can see it for what it is — somebody else’s voice you mistook for your own — it loses some of its power.

The story doesn’t have to be your story anymore. You can put it down. But you have to see it first.
