COME OUTSIDE | John 11:17–20 | Chris Durso
In this urgent, prophetic, and deeply convicting message, Chris Durso speaks to those who have allowed past pain, unanswered prayers, or delayed timelines to cause them to step back in their relationship with God. Preaching from John 11:17–20, he explores the story of Mary, Martha, and Lazarus. When Lazarus first fell ill, Mary knew exactly who to run to, sending word for Jesus to heal her brother. Yet, when Jesus finally arrived four days after Lazarus had passed away, Martha went out to meet Him while Mary stayed behind at home.
Pastor Chris confronts the emotional trajectory that occurs between asking God to show up and His actual arrival. He exposes how easily grief, disappointment, offense, or entitlement can cause us to retreat and isolate ourselves with others who validate our hurt. Jesus stayed right where He was and sent for Mary, requiring her to step out of her house before raising Lazarus from the dead. Grace will meet you where you are, but it loves you too much to leave you there; before God calls dead things out of the grave, He calls grieving people out of their comfort zones and excuses.
Through honest reflection on church hurt, personal betrayal, and spiritual paralysis, this message delivers a powerful charge: stop allowing what hurt you to hold you. It is time to leave your self-imposed isolation, bring your pain honestly to Jesus, and come outside to witness what only He can do.

If you have been dealing with some stuff, just want you to know this is for you. Coming for you in the best way possible. To be quite honest, I feel like I'm speaking to the people in the room that you have faith. But right now you're wrestling with believing in what God could do versus what you're experiencing in your own life. And you're allowing what you're experiencing to keep you from pursuing God. To the person that has been serving God for some time. You have given yourself permission to take a step back. You're attending church. But you're battling in your heart. When it comes to your worship, your praise, or even plainly, your agreement. Because you're unsure why God has done what he's done or has allowed what he's allowed, you are reserving your presence to him. In John chapter 11, there's this very famous story in the Bible. If you spend any time around church, you've read this story before. The Bible lets us know that Mary, Martha, and Lazarus are loved by Jesus. They are dear friends of Jesus. And Lazarus gets sick. And Mary and Martha send word to Jesus, and they say, "Come, Lord, for the one you love is sick." And then the Bible says that Jesus sends word back, that the sickness will not end in death. And then the Bible reads that Jesus stood where he was for a few more days. And then in the interim of Jesus sending that word. And then Jesus' arrival, Lazarus passes away. So seemingly, it looks like Jesus lied. Because he said the sickness will not end in death, and yet Lazarus passes away. Starting at verse 17, I'm just going to read four verses to you. It says on Jesus' arrival, Jesus found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb for four days. Now Bethany was less than two miles from Jerusalem.
So when he sends the word and says the sickness will not end in death, and then he stays where he's at, he's only two miles away. It says that many Jews had come to Martha and Mary to comfort them in the loss of their brother. Look at verse 20. Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went out to meet him. But Mary stayed at home. But Mary stayed at home. I want to take the next few moments, and I want to speak to you from this idea. Come outside. If you're taking notes, write that down. Come outside and put an exclamation point at the end of it, because it's more prophetic than it is anything else. It's come outside. Let's pray one more time, Holy Spirit, speak, soften our hearts, allow us to see beyond what we're dealing with, so that we can hear your voice in Jesus' name. Come on, if you agree, can you shout amen, amen. What bothers me about this text is that Mary is one of the people that acts Jesus to show up. Her brother is sick, and she knows who to run to. She says, "Lord, I need you. Would you come and would you meet us?" In other words, she wanted him there. She believed that he held the power to heal her brother. She believed that he was the source for her miracle, but when he finally shows up, when he arrives on the scene, the Bible is very clear, Martha goes out to meet him, but Mary stays at home. In other words, she called when he was sick, but then stayed behind when he passed. He's finally here. She chooses not to show up.
So the question becomes, what happened between Jesus come and Jesus is here? What happened in Mary's heart? come Jesus is here. Was it grief? Was it frustration? Was it disappointment? Was it exhaustion? Did something fracture her faith or was it offense? The Bible is very clear that this is the same Mary that takes oil and pours it on the feet of Jesus and then uses her hair to dry it so maybe she thought that she was in such good relationship with Jesus that Jesus should have responded quicker which speaks to this idea of entitlement. Is there any entitlement in the room Jesus I've served you as long as I've served you I've tied I've given an offering I showed up to church I've been a part of the launch team at good company church I invite people to church I repost scripture all the time I read and I pray and now what happens when we start to think this way we start to think that our service unto God or our worship unto God is us doing a favor for God. When the presence of God and us taking advantage of the presence isn't us doing it just to make Jesus happy we do not respond to the presence of God so we could check off something on a list to say that I prayed I worship or I lifted up my hand we respond to the presence of God because we are so great that this God would show up for somebody like us which makes the statement true for for Lazarus Mary Martha and true for all of us she says Lord the one that you love is sick now the way that that reads reads that Lazarus and Jesus had a very special relationship which they did however it was not more special than any other one of us that would have a relationship with Jesus in other words you could substitute the name of Lazarus put any other name there and the statement would still reach you Lord the one you love Lazarus is sick Lord the one you love Alexa is sick Lord the one you love Chris is sick Lord the one you love Matthew is sick Lord the one you love Wanda is sick it's true every time so when he does show up but it doesn't show up on the timeline that Mary had envisioned in her mind she starts the question if he loves her like she loves him see here's what I know I believe that God will answer every prayer that you pray I just do not believe that who will answer it the way you want him to
and with that said the warning is simple be careful of what happens while you wait be careful of how you behave while you wait I believe that if you are praying if you're believing for miracle God's plans are so much greater than ours I believe that what he has for you is greater than anything that you could ever plan and I also understand that sometimes it's frustrating because you are looking at your surroundings you're looking at your environment you're looking at other people progress while you feel like you're remaining stuck you're seeing other people move in advance and it just seems like your life is only getting more difficult is there anyone that has ever felt like that or am I the only one be careful how you wait because he's gonna answer what he wants to answer when he chooses to answer it however he could answer it but if your heart posture is off you will miss it because you've chose to wait in bitterness can you imagine making a request of God and then he doesn't respond so then in turn you start gossiping on God who does he think he is I always said all that perfume on him that was some good stuff that was they lava and now you start telling yourself that you can't trust anyone not even God and when you find yourself in that position you will then judge the movement of God when you find yourself judging the movement of God you are suggesting that you know better than God and here's the thing we have to talk about this because some of you aren't moved by the presence of God like you used it you used to be moved by the presence of God but not so much anymore you used to get excited when you would hear that we were going to church used to get excited when you'd be in a worship service and everyone was worshiping but something happened in you and now the presence of God does not excite you like it used to see at one point she prayed God would you show up and I believe had he showed up when she asked he would have been so she would have been so excited she would have ran to meet him thank you I knew you would Just let me get you to touch Lazarus. But what happens? What happens when, while you're waiting, you don't get what you want, when you want it. Now as a result, you hear Jesus is present and now it doesn't move you.
The Bible says that she stood at home with the mourners. She chose to mourn with people that were in agreement with her with how she was feeling and she picked that over seeing Jesus. The reason why this is so important is because every prayer that we've ever prayed should be rooted in the fact that we are not even deserving of an answer of God, but because he's so good he responds. I do not pray from a posture of entitlement. Entitlement and confidence are not the same thing. Entitlement and confidence are not the same thing. Here's another way of saying it. God owes you nothing. And yet what makes him so good is that even though he owes us nothing and there's nothing we could ever do to impress him he still shows up for us. He still meets us where we're at. He still blesses us. He still loves us. He still saves us. He still answers our prayers. And now I want to encourage you today if you are waiting on a prayer, if you are waiting on the fulfillment of a request if you are waiting for God to show up, if you are waiting for God to move I want to challenge you that you would deal with your own heart first because if not you will lie to yourself so when he does show up you miss him anyway. Which also speaks to the fact that even the fulfillment of the prayer is not enough because she got what she wanted and she still refused to show up. We have to be honest about our own immaturities our own behaviors because some of us treat God the way that we'll treat our parents we'll treat our siblings or we'll treat our spouses. Because you did not do for me what I've asked I'm taking a step back
and the fact of the matter is God does not have to bless us but he wants to bless us and he will bless us when he decides to. Can anyone agree with that? God does not have to bless us and he will bless us but he will bless us when he decides to. Now before Jesus gets to Lazarus he deals with Mary. Jesus meets Martha Martha meets Jesus at the city gate and they have this whole conversation and Martha says, "Lord had you been here my brother would not have died and then Jesus puts her on and says, listen your brother's about to be raised back to life but Martha thinks that he's talking about on the day when everyone rises from the grave and she thinks she's having that conversation so she's not on the same frequency as Jesus and Jesus is like no no no that's not what you're thinking I'm about to raise him up but you're not understanding it because you're overwhelmed by your grief but then he says before it gets to Lazarus where's Mary and then Martha goes and gets Mary but Jesus stays where he's at pay attention to this he stays where he's at he could have taken the walk with Martha to go say hey let's go get Mary but instead of enabling her bad behavior he stays right where he's at and says send word for Mary and tell Mary that I showed up and then the Bible says that Martha goes to Mary and says Jesus is looking for you and then Mary gets up and she gets away from the mourners and she approaches Jesus which is a beautiful moment but I just want to point out the fact that before we get to her response pay attention to what it is that Jesus did doesn't go into the house even though she's grieving even though she's disappointed even though she's frustrated even though she's angry which made me think but isn't this the same Jesus that seeks the lost the one that leaves the 99 for the one that meets broken people where they are
and yet he doesn't go to Mary why make the grieving woman get up why make her leave her house why does Jesus stay where he is and call her to where he is because Jesus will meet you where you are but he loves you too much to always leave you where you are there are moments when grace comes into your situation and then there are other moments where grace calls you out of your situation right now the Holy Spirit is dealing with many of you and many of you are frustrated that you have not gotten from God what it is that you've wanted "It's just not the way that you wanted me to show up." But before I go raise this body from the dead, I need you to get up out of your house. Think about it. Before he calls Lazarus out, he calls Mary out. Before he raises a dead man up, he calls a grieving woman out of her home, and he says, "Come to me." Before she gets the fulfillment of her miracle, he makes sure that her heart is right. And this is important because many of us are waiting to worship when we're happy again. We're waiting to worship when God does for us, what it is that we want him to do. And he's saying, "I showed up, and now I am calling you out "of what you're in. "I'm calling you out of your bitterness. "I'm calling you out of your frustration, "and I am saying to come here." Well, Jesus, come here.
Well, I don't wanna talk to you right now, so I'm gonna stay back here. You can stay back there, but what I'm saying is come here. He's calling her to leave her grief and to leave her mourning. Notice, she doesn't have to change her sorrow, but she does have to change the fact of her address. Why? Because her sorrow has been dictating how she behaves. There are some of you that are sorrowful. That's okay to be sorrowful. There are some of you that are grieving. It's okay to agree. Is there some of you that are overwhelmed? It's okay to be overwhelmed. These are all real emotions that have been given to us by God. It is not okay when your emotions dictate what you do. And when we talk about the goodness of God, and we talk about the Holy Spirit, and we talk about the fruits of the Holy Spirit, you have to take captive of your thoughts, and you have to take captive of your emotions. As Jesus is calling you out today, I want you to know he's not doing it to embarrass you. He is doing it to grow you. He's saying, "I could come to where you're at, "but I know you have a lot more strength "than you realize, so, son, daughter, "I am calling you out today. "I know what happened shouldn't have happened.
"I know they disrespected you. "I know you're overwhelmed by it. "I know they lied on you. "I know they took it from you. "And yet I'm saying, son, daughter, "get up and come outside today. "It is time to stop living in your grief. "It is time to stop living in your hurt. "It is time to stop living in your memories "because you've lived in this loop, "and I'm here to break the loop." See, what we want from God is the miracle. What he wants is the relationship. What's important to us is that Lazarus raises up. What's important to him is that we go to him, regardless if Lazarus raises up or not. We want our miracle. He says, "I want your soul. "I want you to worship me. "Even if I don't do anything else that you're asking. "I want you to stop judging me by what you've experienced. "I'm greater than what you've experienced." See, if he would have healed Lazarus when Lazarus is sick, we would have worshiped him for being a healer. But because he knows he's about to raise Lazarus from the dead, we now get to worship him as the God that we know nothing is impossible for him. He wants to raise your perspective, and he wants you to understand
that he is more than able to do beyond whatever it is that you can comprehend. And I love that before Mary gets her miracle, she goes to meet him where he's at. The Holy Spirit told me to say to you, good company, it's time to come outside. I love our church, and I'm very aware that a good amount of people that come to our church either got saved for the first time, and so who Bible study maybe got saved for the first time in the past year of our church. Then there's another group of people that you've been in church, and you've been hurt by church. You are part of churches that no longer exist. You are part of churches that have changed leadership. You're a part of churches that are still going, and you don't know how they're going because there's been so much pain there. So you showed up today, and the Holy Spirit is saying, I know what happened to you, happened to you, but you are making what happened to you greater than what it is I'm trying to do right now. It's okay to have a story of church hurt, but church hurt cannot become your identity. It cannot be the only thing you talk about. God is too good, it can't be, it can't be. And if that's all you talk about, then you're telling me where you fixate your attention. God is so good and so great. He does marvelous things all of the time,
and as he does these things all the time, they should be able to get our attention, but the only reason why they don't get our attention is because we're too fixated on what's behind us. And he says, "Son, daughter, what's behind you is behind you, "but I'm calling you forward because I have plans for you." (audience applauds) I want you to write this down. Faith doesn't always require God to come where you are. Sometimes faith requires you to go where he's calling you. [ Silence ] Answer this not now, but one day. Where is he calling you? For some of you, he's calling you to forgiveness. How many of you heard that word last week from Dr. Ande? Wasn't that an incredible word? Some of you have heard it and still haven't received it. We'll talk about that later. He's calling you to forgiveness. He's calling you to purity. He's calling you to joy. He's calling you to health. He's calling you to healing. There are others of you, he's calling you to a new job. Some of you, he's calling you to start a new business. Some of you have been so comfortable in the job that you've been working in. And he's saying that's okay, you're providing, but the goal was not to provide. The goal was obedience.
And where I'm calling you, I'm calling you. And this is so important to note because in Hebrews chapter 11 verse eight, look what it says, it says, "By faith, Abraham, "when called to go to a place, he would later receive "as his inheritance, obeyed and went, "even though he did not know where he was going." There are some of you that don't wanna go because you don't know where you're going. But Abraham, who's the father of our faith, is one of the fathers of faith. He went and was obedient, even though he didn't know where he was going. And here's the crazy part. Inheritance was attached to it. There are things that you're supposed to inherit, but you cannot inherit it inside the house. It is time to come outside. There's inheritance for you. I know your fears, your frustrations, your hurt, your trauma, I get it. But it wants to keep you in clothes. It wants to keep you in bed. It wants to keep you. It wants to keep you frustrated and overwhelmed. And the Holy Spirit is saying, son daughter, it's time to come out. It is time to step out where I'm calling you to. I know you don't know where it is, but I know where it is. And what I have for you is blessing.
And if I told you that there was blessing there, well, that would be the only reason why you come out. But I don't want a relationship to work like that. I want you to trust me so much that you listen to my voice and regardless, who's all over there and what's all over there? You come out anyway. It is time to come outside, but here's the good news. Here's the good news as you come out, come outside with your pain. You don't have to leave your pain at home, bring your pain with you. God is big enough for your pain. He's big enough for your frustration. He's big enough for you to be honest with him. God, I'm angry. He's like, good, talk to me about it. God, I want to give up, good, talk to me about it. God, I'm frustrated. The man you gave me keeps disrespecting me. The woman you gave me keeps letting me down. My parents aren't showing up, but business isn't thriving. I'm frustrated. He says, break, just bring it all to me. Notice that when Mary showed up to Jesus, she didn't leave her grief behind. In fact, in fact, the Bible says that the mourners went with her. Bring your crew. Bring whoever you got with you. Bring whoever you're gossiping with.
Bring whoever you're plotting with. Bring whoever you're petty with. Someone said, Dan, bring them all, bring them. Just don't allow them to keep you as a prisoner at home. It's time to come outside with all the honesty and transparency so that God could heal you where you're at because here's the fact of the matter. A lot of you are allowing what hurt you to hold you. Do not allow what hurt you to hold you. You are giving what hurt you too much power. You're giving it too much authority. You're allowing it to control how you think. You're allowing it to control your behaviors. You're allowing it to control whether you serve a church. You're allowing it to control whether you tie the church. You're allowing it to control whether you lift up your hands. You're allowing it to control whether you open up to that person who's now fresh in your life. And now it is keeping you from being everything and experiencing everything it is that God has for you. Don't allow what hurt you to hold you. And what I love about the goodness of Jesus is that he's patient. So even if you don't come the first time, you can come the second time. In other words, he's the God of a second chance. And some of you might be thinking, well, I might be on my 16th, that's okay. It's the same thing. That's what we mean when we say it's not literal, it's just another chance.
He's the God of a second chance. If you don't take him on an opportunity, the grace of God says, I'm here waiting for you. Come meet me where you're at. And when you meet me, guess what? You don't have to do. You don't have to approach me in some ritualistic behavior. You don't have to use certain language. All you have to do is speak the language that you're feeling. You're angry. Ooh, tell me all about it. You want to punch him in the face? Great, come to me with it. Tell me about all the frustration. Tell me about all the hurt. Tell me about all the pain. Because here's what's going to happen. Even when you bring your people with you, the presence of God will change you, may even change your people. But if it doesn't change your people, I promise you it'll separate you from them. Can I tell you that not everyone that you surround yourself with needs to go with you where you're going? [APPLAUSE] Would somebody might hear that and go, well, Pastor Chris, that doesn't sound like the gospel. OK, let me clear it up for you. This is about being obedient to what it is that God is calling us to,
so that we could be the men and the women that God has called us to be. When we named our church good company, it was burnt out of a moment when I was literally just journaling in a coffee shop. And I heard the Holy Spirit say, "A bad company corrupts good character." Imagine what good company could do. The idea here is that we wouldn't just be a company, we wouldn't just be a group of people, but we would be good. What makes us good? What makes us good is salvation. What makes us good is Jesus. It's not perfection, but it is honesty. We're not here pretending. We're not here playing church. I grew up in church my entire life. God bless the church. I love the church, but I'm not trying to repeat what it is that I've seen, and whether it was the church that I grew up in, or churches that I've experienced around this world. I wanna be the kind of church that says, "God, we're not perfect. We just know that we need you." And when that happens, and you find yourself in the presence of Jesus, He'll start to separate in your life. Who should be with you and who shouldn't be with you?
And I want you to be careful, because some of you will be more loyal to whoever it is that came with you than you are to God. Hear me. If they're not good for you, you're not good for them. Some people will help you more, but never help you move. (chuckles) Some people know how to cry with you. They know how to be sad with you, but they don't know how to push you. If you have a friend that only agrees with you, if you have a friend that only tells you, you're the best thing in the world, if you have a friend that always agrees when you're being petty, and when you're being rude, and when you're being childish, or when you wanna operate in sin, and that's the only kind of person that they are, that they just agree with you, agree with you. I promise you, those are the wrong people for you. Now, you should have a friend that knows how to be present. You should be a friend that knows how to sit with someone, sit in silence with them. You don't always gotta give somebody a word. You could just be present with them. You could encourage them. You could listen to them. You could cry with them. Cry with those that cry. The Bible says that there's a time to mourn.
There's a time to weep. Then there are other times when we say, "All right, we're done here. It's time to get up. We need to come outside." Well, I don't wanna come. Okay, I'm coming over. I'm getting you dressed, and I'm pulling you out. You're not getting me dressed. All right, so you're going out in your PJs. I'm getting you out. You could take the bed sheet with you, but I'm getting you out of this house. Even if all we do is go on a ride, even though all we do is ride the train, even if all we do is go to the corner store and back, even if all we do is go to a restaurant and come back, I am getting you out. Why? Because I am encouraging you to see beyond what you've been saturating in. When all you see is all you see, you have no faith for what God has. He wants to change your perspective. He wants to change the way that you look at things. And here's the fact of the matter. You will lie to yourselves. Some of us can be the worst prophets in our own lives. We will prophesy over ourselves saying, "This is it, there's nothing else.
"Only bad things are gonna happen to me. "What happened before is gonna happen again." And God is literally saying, "Son, daughter, I am calling you out "because from your limited perspective, "you only see what you see, but what I have for you, "it's gonna go beyond anything you could ever imagine. "There's joy on the other side of this. "I know you think it's over "because in life, death seems to have the final word, "but in the kingdom of God, God gets the final word. "Death cannot hold him. "You could be in the grave three days, three years, "or 20 years, and he could still call that thing out." Now, we're talking about physical people. Absolutely, God carraced somebody from the dead, but I also believe that there are a lot of dead emotions in the room. There are a lot of dead dreams in the room. And the Holy Spirit's saying, "Son, daughter, it's time to dream again. "I'm about to revive that thing. "I know the business went south. "I know the relationship went south, "but I'm about to revive you. "That's what I do." See, what's amazing is we pray for a revival, but the confession of a revival is the confession that something is dead. Only dead things need revival.
So then why do you find it so difficult when he says, "I wanna revive your joy? "I wanna revive your future. "I know you didn't think that at 30, or 40, or 50, "you would be at this point in your life." But God's saying, "I do what I want." Regardless of your vision board, and regardless of your mood board. And this is why you have to be careful who you surround yourself with. The other day, I was at the gym. I love starting stories like that. (audience laughs) 'Cause then you look at me like I'm stronger. It's not a big deal. I just completed my 100th Barry's class. (audience applauds) It's not a big deal. But they were shouting my name. I was like, "I'm just a man, leave me alone." (audience laughs) She was shouting out someone in the class that was going overseas for work and they were actually going on a cruise ship and they were gonna be gone for six months. And instead of taking the moment to celebrate her, she then said, "I can never do that." I'm scared of the open sea. And I'm there running on the treadmill with about a hundred pounds in my hands.
(audience laughing) It never happened. And I'm there thinking to myself, you could be celebrating this girl. But instead, you turned her experience into you talking about what you fear. And then she went on to say, "We're supposed to be working out." She said, "What are some of your fears in the room? "I love talking about people's fears." It's pretty morbid. She's like, "Yeah, I don't like the open sea." She goes, "Oh, spiders, don't get me started on spiders." She goes, "I have a son. "Thank God I trained him to kill my spiders "because I don't want to touch him." And I thought to myself, "I thank God that we have a father "that does not just call us to do great things "only because he doesn't want to do them." He says, "I go with you, I'm for you, "I will step out with you, "but I want to put it in your hand "so that you could realize you could handle way more "than you could ever imagine." And God is calling you out today. I'm telling you, he's calling you out today, but he's also calling you out of the friend group that you're in. He's calling you out of certain relationships
because there are a whole lot of people that are surrounding you that will only encourage you to live on the shore. He says, "I'm calling you to the open sea. "I'm calling you to step out. "I am calling you beyond your comprehension. "I want to do great things in you and through you. "In fact, I'm going to prove it to you right now. "Where's the body?" Show me where Lazarus is. Show me where this body is. What I love is that Jesus wants you to take him where you buried it. What you've put to us, what you said is over. He says, "Bring it to me. "Bring me there." I want you to think about this. When you think about stepping out and you think about being honest with God, understand that what you're doing, understand what you're doing is that you're allowing your honesty and your expectation to me. You're allowing your honesty and your expectation to me. He doesn't want you to lie. Which, again, I'm going to repeat this because if you spend any time around church or if you created your own ideas about church, you think that you have to just speak in some biblical new King James language all the time. And God's saying, "You want to worship me?"
Don't just sing lyrics. Mean what you say. Tell me that you're fearful. Tell me that you're overwhelmed. So when you sing the lyrics, even if I dress the lilies and I trade a beauty for ashes, you wrestle with those thoughts and you struggle to believe them to be true. He says, "Tell me, just bring it to me, just." Because I'll bless you there, all. I'll meet you there, I'll help you there. I read this Psalm and I've read this Psalm dozens of times because actually just read the Psalms regularly. I read through them and then when I'm done, I go back and I just keep reading them again, but I never noticed Psalm 55 verses 12 to 14. And if you have time, read the whole verse. It's a very honest Psalm, especially the beginning. David is just talking to Jesus and he's telling him how frustrated he is with life and how overwhelmed he is by his enemies. But then David starts to talk about church here. Look at verse 12, he says, "It's not an enemy who taunts me. "I could bear that. "It's not my foes who so arrogantly insult me. "I could have hidden from them. "Instead, it is you. "Fuf, my equal, my companion and close friend.
"What good fellowship we once enjoyed "as we walked together to the house of God. "It's not an enemy who taunts me. "I could bear them. "It's not my foes, it's not the people "that I know don't like me. "I could hide from them. "Instead, it's you. "In other words, I trusted you. "I thought we were on the same wavelength, I thought. "I thought we were going together. "I trusted you in my life. "You trusted me with yours. "You told me secrets about you. "I told you secrets about me. "I can fight it in you. "We used to go to church together. "We'd go to the house of God together, and now you." And what I love, what I love about this moment, with. You could pray generic prayers or you could be flat-out honest. You could identify the nuance. See some of you are so afraid to mention what happened to you because you know your story is like no one else. Anyone else ever feel like that? You ever tell someone you're storing they look at you like man I've never heard anything like this. Yep been there but God goes I knew it was coming. I saw it. Bring me in because when you bring me to what's buried only then can I revive what I want to. The Bible says that Jesus went with Mary and Martha to the grave and the whole town came out because they were shot. The mourners and everyone else by the way who already attended this man's funeral. They show up and then Jesus says remove the stone from the tomb and then Martha says Lord he's been sick he's been dead for four days it's gonna smell which side note
that just brings us back to the previous conversation because Jesus says to Martha do you believe Martha Martha says yes I believe but then in this moment it's proof that she doesn't really believe like she says she believes. Can we just be honest that sometimes we say we believe and we really don't believe like we say we believe. Can we just be honest because what happens is when we do that we we assume this responsibility like we know better like no I know what you're gonna tell me but you don't get it Jesus he's been dead for four days he's God he knows and now you start telling facts to Jesus why this won't work here it is God this won't work he's been dead this won't work they've been mean I've tried before I reached out before I apologize I sent the money I wrote the letter I sent the email I told them what happened I tried this before the word is remove what he tells you to remove stop giving your reasoning and give him your obedience he removes the stone and he calls a Lazarus out of the grave and what happens it's a straight-up Michael Jackson thriller video he comes walking out and how everyone who just doubted I thought this was impossible our completely dumbfounded why because they thought they knew what he was able to do and he knew that they really didn't maybe we don't know what we think we know maybe the details that you have are true but they're not everything maybe what you have allowed your story to become the sum total of God says what you allow to become the end of your book was only a chapter in your book right where you put a period I put a comma there is a more on the other side of it it is time that you move what I'm telling you to move now here's what I know Lazarus would have got resurrected whether Mary came out of the house or not but because she came out of the house she was able to witness what he did I would hate for you to miss what it is that you requested because you allowed your emotions to get the best of you he's gonna do what he wants the miracles on its way I promise you but the better part would be if you got to experience it you close your eyes if you would admit that because of life history frustrations your hurt has been controlling you it's been dictating what you do what you say how you live your obedience if that's you lift up your hand okay all of you that just lifted up
your hands come to the Psalter that's all right come on You
