Welcome to the House of Rest Church, where Jesus is the senior pastor, and this pulpit belongs to him and him alone. Amen. God bless each and every one of you. I also wanted to just thank everyone that helped last week. In the middle of my sermon, Sharon passed me a note that everyone was stuck in the airport, and everybody came together and made it happen, and I'm just blown away.

And on just behalf of everyone, thank you so much. I do want to say that we were so concerned about everyone else. I remember telling Sharon, I'm like, we're not in the clear yet. And we got to San Francisco straight from church, went to SFO, and we had a layover, which I will never do again. All of us had layovers. And instead of a direct flight, like we do every year, and our layover was in Los Angeles. So we were supposed to leave San Francisco at 4.05, land in L.A. at 5, and board a plane at 6. And by the time we boarded our plane in San Francisco, we weren't going to make the plane in L.A. By the time we got to L.A., our plane left, and now we're stuck in L.A. And the only other connecting flight was going to be an all-nighter to Atlanta, Georgia. And wait in Atlanta, Georgia for three hours, and then fly back to Houston to make it back. And so we did an all-nighter, and I never thought I'd see Atlanta, Georgia, but I wish it would have been on different terms. And so we did that. And then I had an important meeting, because I'm part of the committee of our district of Grace International. The meeting was at 9.30, and our plane was, after all that flying, we're going to arrive at 8.30, and Houston is going to give me an hour. So we pull up. I'm still in the same clothes I preached in. This is 24 hours later. And the thing that connects to the plane to let you walk out wouldn't work. So we sat in that plane for an hour, missed my meeting, but we were able to see our people. Which is the first picture you got? Oh, that's our group shot we took. We were all able to make it. And the next one is Armando and Lorena receiving their license, their pastoral license.

And the next one, we got to see Raven get her, right there in the center, in the bottom, also, get her chaplain license. So it worked out. You know, all the troubles we went through, everything that happened. And we all made it, and it all just, we entered into the service, and all of the troubles just dissipated. The presence of God was there, and it was an amazing, it was probably the best Grace International Conference I'd ever been to. You know, and I see why the enemy wanted to hold us back. But we were able to make it, and it was a huge, huge blessing, and it happened because of you guys. You know, and thank you so much. I do want you to know that that conference is once a year, but we have a regional in September in Orange, California. which is five minutes away from Disneyland you want an excuse to take your kids and go to the conference first and That's gonna be a September. Let me see the date here just for those of you that like dates September 28th and 29th and what we do is there's a hotel that we completely take over and And we were there and we get to fellowship and bond and be together and that's September 28 29th Usually we take 35 40 people. I'm curious to see if we can hit 50 this time Yeah, that's what's awesome too is that we volunteered you guys and ourselves to assist in making it happen, so we're gonna partner up with the Orange Church in Orange, California for the regional conference in September 28 29 and We're gonna arrive there that Sunday, which is the 27th after service We'll go over there and we're gonna help set up and make it happen and and do our part You know, so just for those of you that like the dates The moment that we go Oh Oh

I know that you are a strategic God and you brought them here for this purpose and this message, Lord. We pray for those that are here and those that are watching through their screens. You open our hearts, Lord God, and you open our minds to receive what it is that your word has for us. We rebuke anything that is blocking it, anything that is demonic, anything that is not of you, Lord God. We come against it in the mighty name of Jesus. We separate ourselves, Lord God, and we put the cross in your blood there. We surround this place. We call angels to surround this place, warring angels in the name of Jesus. And anything that is not of God, I command it to shut its mouth from speaking and putting thoughts in your heads in the name of Jesus, of everybody that's here, Lord. We thank you so much, Lord God, because we know that you are holy and powerful and all-knowing. We know, Lord God, that you are merciful and full of grace. We thank you in Jesus' name. Amen. Amen. Good morning. One more time. Excited about today's message. We had, like I said, we had a great, we're going to have the Bible declaration in a minute, but we had a great time in the conference. And I was able to meet people that, and fellowship with people that pour into us, pour into me. The conference is one thing, but it's the little side conversations of asking for wisdom or ask for direction and different things that, for me, makes the conference rich. When I say that we had a great conference, it's not just talking about whoever's on the stage at that moment. It's about the little moments, and not only the little moments with people that pour into me, but moments when those that went with us,

because we all stayed in the Airbnb, so we're all together. It's not like we went to a hotel and everybody hides in their little cubbies. We were there, and there was an open floor plan. I purposely looked for an Airbnb with an open kitchen, open dining and living room, so we could all fellowship together. And there's little moments of ministry that happens there, you know, and that's what I say it was a successful conference because of those moments like that. Anyways, you got your Bibles? Let's lift our Bible up. We have a declaration that we do. You guys ready? This is my Bible. It is God's Word to me, my guide and my strength. I bring it ready to learn. I open it with faith in Jesus. I live it with courage. Without it, I grow weak. Be strong in this one. With it, I grow strong. Today, I bring it, believe it, and obey it. In Jesus' name. Amen. Praise God. Today's message is titled, The Weight of Glory. The Weight of Glory. I believe that this message is timely, that many times we need to hear these things. We need to be reminded of things in the Word. Because how many of you know that when you are in a storm, sometimes you forget what a good day feels like? And we need to be reminded many times. And I just wanted to encourage you and remind you of what the Word of God says when we go through things. Because many times it can feel like weight. And it feels like that weight holds us down and pulls us back. And that's why we need to be, in our words, to be reminded of hope. Because ultimately, that's what the Word of God is. It's hope. It gives us hope. It gives us a future. It gives us something to look forward to. And so I want to start off in 2 Corinthians 4.17. 2 Corinthians 4.17. As we're going to that, I just want to put some context into the book of Corinthians is actually a city named Corinth or Corinth and this city is this city was full of debauchery, idolatry, all the all the all of the things it was full of it. It was a bad city. You know in California we have some cities that are you I guess we're in a worldly way we can say they're decent they're safe there Corinth was not that city Corinth was a city full of every kind of sin you can think of to the point that Paul would usually go to a city and establish a church very quickly within a few weeks. He stayed here for a year and a half because it was just there was just so much sin so many things that he had to stay that long to establish the Corinthian church but when he started to see fruit from that the church began to be attacked because the more debauchery there is in a place the harder it is it's going to be to establish a church. I'll give you an example I don't know why I have my reasons why but I don't know if it's true but I have heard many many pastors

try to establish a church in Santa Cruz. You guys know Santa Cruz we get to the boardwalk at least four pastors that I known that said I went there and after a year I had to shut it down and you would think wait what do you think it's by the water there's a boardwalk there's rides what's going on now again my opinion but I do know there is a lot of witchcraft in that area and they get together and they pray to their demons to shut churches down and so there is a strong oppression in that small town that comes against those that try to establish a church there and even in books and things I've read besides the pastors that I have known you hear about this over and over and over pastors that don't even know each other for whatever reason some cities it is harder to establish a place of worship other cities that are that have a struggle is Las Vegas other cities that have struggles in the is San Francisco I I personally know a couple handful of pastors that my god they're on the frontlines because even to be a Christian you're hated and so Corinth was that type of city but people were coming people were getting saved but a lot of a thing started afflicting them things started to come against them and in that context I want to read 2nd Corinthians 4 17 and Paul is reminding them and he says this for this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison we're gonna go deeper into what we're talking about but basically in this in this message he's saying listen all the troubles you're going through right now all the things that are coming against you he says that's just a light affliction and he's not so he's not talking down he's not talking down on the things you're going through but he's just comparing it saying in comparison to the troubles in life you were going through it is really light compared to the weight of glory that's coming in the future so when you put it against the things of God on the scale the weight of glory is always going to be heavier than the weight of this world regardless of how it looks on this side and and I'm speaking to those that maybe some days feel longer than they should if that's you then this message is for you some seasons feel like you can't break through if that is you then this

message is for you some battles are silent but suffocating you if that is you this message is for you some people in this room you are smiling publicly but you are breaking privately if that is you this message is for you I'll read it again for this light momentary affliction is preparing us preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison. If we had to sum it up for those of you that are feeling this way and I think all of us I think all of us there are days you don't even feel like fighting anymore. I remember I don't even know if my mom remembers this but one day we were at her house I don't even think we were married yet when my mom started choking you remember that? We weren't married yet huh? Were we? We were just there eating we were and my mom was eating something and she started choking her and I was in the other side of the room and you could see her struggling and I never asked her about this but it almost felt like she almost gave up like she just said like hey I can't I can't get it out and she just let go and I quickly went behind her and gave her the Heimlich you know and and I remember because I didn't want to hurt her I remember just you know and it came up and I don't know if that moment I never asked about it but I just know that maybe in that moment you're just like I don't feel like fighting this anymore I can't stop it. I think that I would be a liar to say that some days ministry can be like that serving the Lord can be like that and you can be helping a hundred people but you fail at one and you just want to stop and give up so I think that's all of us but but here's what I want to talk about today is we need to define that the word and shift the perspective of it because if not we will always see life through our troubles and tribulations and it will always be a negative we need to change our perspective because listen let me tell you something your trouble you're in now when you get past it guess what does it be another one coming so just brace yourself you can't have a storm and once it's over you say man praise God no more storms oh there will be another might not be tomorrow might not be next month but another storm will come so if we can't change the afflictions that come what we can do is maybe shift our perspective of it see

something heavy can be seen as positive or negative so what's your perspective for instance if I'm lifting bricks and putting them in a wheelbarrow they feel heavy as I'm carrying these bricks and I'm like man I'm complaining it's a hot day and these bricks are heavy and it's a struggle to carry these bricks or if I see logs and I need to get those logs all the way to the back of the house which actually do have to do that they're in my trailer and winters over so all the wood that was in my trailer now got to put in the back of the house and thank God I have an Abraham thank you Lord and I got a new son-in-law so well just saying man praise God for son-in-laws that wasn't a hint that was direct right but anyways we need to lift these logs and we're just like oh my gosh you're so heavy and I get them get them over here so it becomes a hassle becomes an affliction but the shift is this for instance if you have a boat if you have a boat and you don't want it carried away by the storm that's coming you want the very heaviest of anchors so in a one way it's a bother one way it's an affliction or a matter of fact let's take those heavy bricks but I'm about to build something that's not gonna tumble when there's a storm so then I'm glad it's heavy the word weight is a negative it's substance it's value it's density it's eternal significance when when a person talks too much and then you all know somebody like that if you don't know then it's you and this person talks and talks and talks but there's never any action behind it there's never any resolve behind it there's never any any any lasting things that happen because of it in other words there's no substance to their conversation so in other words their words have no weight to them it's as if it's a windy day and their words are coming out and just blowing away there's no weight to the words but if you're the type of person that you're not always talking but when you do say something it has value that word has value and there's weight to your words because everything you say everyone knows that you're going to do your best to accomplish it you're gonna do your best to reach that goal you're gonna say something out of wisdom out of the pain and hurt of your life so when you share something like when I sit with Pastor

Moses or any of these pastors that have gone through things especially Pastor Thomas who's been a pastor for 50 years and when I sit with him I'm not gonna nonchalantly be looking at my phone and doing this I'm gonna listen to every word he says because there's weight in his words you know and I was talking to one of the brothers after the fact that went to Texas with us you know and I said man how'd you like it and he says oh man it was a great conference it was awesome you know and he says um he's no man I liked it it was good I said man and I really liked the late nights just talking in the dining table and he says those are actually my favorite parts of the whole thing and I realized that in the same way I seek to get something from Thomas or these guys I didn't realize that in that moment that was a moment where my words were a weight to him as as as I was just pouring into him and I'm over here just conversating about ministry in life not realizing that the weight of the words were falling on his heart because there's weight to our words there should be you know so to bring somebody in perspective of somebody with a weight of glory because a lot of times it seems like the storm the affliction is never going to end there's a person in the Bible named Joseph and Joseph was a young man he had many brothers but the Lord gave him prophetic dreams the Lord showed him things the Lord told him things in the secret in the night and instead of holding those visions he decided to share it with his brothers who hated him but he was so oblivious to it he didn't realize it be careful of who you share your dreams with because you have no idea sometimes they're hating you and they're envious of you and you're just all notionally all happy because God showed you this and God showed you that and you're sharing it with people be careful but Joseph had these visions and because of that his family and his brothers betrayed him they were far away from home and they were out there and they were finally away from their father because their father favored Joseph and they took a chance and they said let's kill him but one of the brothers says no let's not kill him let's just throw him into that pit and they threw him into the pit and they were still wanted to kill him but one of

the oldest brothers said no we can't do this so then a caravan was passing by and they said well what if we just sell him off as a slave that way we can be done with him he was betrayed by his family he was thrown into a pit he was sold into slavery and many of us should know the story that his father's heart broke because the brothers came back and they said is this do you recognize this coat and he says that is Joseph's and they had ripped it and poured blood all over it so the father would think that an animal had attacked Joseph but he was sent off to Egypt and when he was in Egypt the man named Potiphar bought him purchased him to be a servant in his house and he was a powerful man and he began to serve in that house and got to the point where all the other servants were his servants because Potiphar saw so much trust in Joseph that put him as head and he told him everything in my house is yours except my wife but the wife saw young Joseph and had her own thoughts and she tried to seduce him and he said no how could I do this he says your your husband is so good to me he's made me the master of this house how can I sin against your husband and the sin against my God and she didn't like that so she tried to grab hold of him and he took off running and she grabbed his clothes and he took off naked she was left with his clothes but she used that as an accusation because then when her husband came said do you know whose cloak this belongs to and they said that's Joseph's yeah he tried to get with me and he was falsely accused and because of that we know that Joseph was thrown into prison so you would think man when does this storm end if God is giving him vision if God is giving him a plan if God is giving him a focus something to focus on then how is it that his own family betrayed him and then they throw him into a pit and then they sell him into slavery and then it becomes head servant but then he's falsely accused of something so horrendous and horrible that Potiphar has him thrown into prison and you would think like when is this going to end I gave my life to the Lord and it's like everything went bad for me it's like man when I was serving Satan everything was good but now that I want to serve God all of a sudden I can't make my car payment all of a sudden my dishwasher

breaks down all of a sudden my spouse can't stand me all of a sudden all kinds of people were trying to say these things about me so just over and over and over and you're just like when is this gonna be over and he's thrown in prison and you would think if anybody's gonna say this this is never gonna end it would be Joseph and as he's sitting there in prison Joseph is just gonna be Joseph because if you're a leader you're gonna be a leader wherever God puts you I remember when God told me that I was gonna pastor a church and I argued with God I was like no I don't want to do that how many of you know that you're not gonna win in arguments against God I've tried it doesn't work I'm like Lord I'll be a great janitor for a church someday nope I will attend every Sunday I'll be a tither I will nope Joseph was there in prison and he became a leader among the prisoners all of a sudden everywhere you go every place God put me after I argued with him that I did not want to pastor I would go to this facility or that facility and automatically I'm just like where the brothers at oh they're all scattered oh okay and my next thing you know six months later there's like 20 brothers having Bible study with me and I was leading and I'm just like wait a second I told you I didn't want to do this and then I would get moved to another facility and the same thing and I'd be like where the brothers at oh they're all scattered well I'm gonna have a Bible study next thing you know there's 30 brothers all around wherever God is going to place you whatever he's called you for it's going to happen because it's gonna pour out of you automatically no matter what so he was there in the prison now and we know that Pharaoh had a dream and because Pharaoh had a dream and none of his magicians could tell him what the dream was and he's like I need you to interpret the dream and they're trying to trick him so finally he says you know what I need to know this ain't fake so matter of fact you tell me what I dreamed and then tell me what it means and they're like how are we gonna know that how can we interpret your dream if you don't tell us a dream he's like that's how I would know and nobody could

tell the dream and he's like you know what I'm just gonna kill all of you guys you guys are serving no purpose but somebody that was in prison with Joseph told Pharaoh he says you know what a couple years ago remember when you threw me in prison yeah there was a young man named Joseph and he he he interpreted my dream I had a dream and he said that you would place me back in this position and it happened exactly the way he said so they called for Joseph and they told them hey clean up wash up you're about to face the king of Egypt Pharaoh so they washed him up clean them up and he went before there and anyways he he prophesied the dream he told Pharaoh exactly what the dream that he had and he told him what it meant and Pharaoh was so enthralled by him he was he was so excited that he took off his ring and said from this moment on you're coming out of that prison matter of fact you're gonna live here in the palace and everyone's gonna listen to you the only one higher than you was gonna be me and he went from the prison to the palace in one day I love that because God is no respecter of men if he did it for Joseph he could do it today so everything he went through all the affliction all the way all the pain of his betrayal of his brothers and thrown into a pit sold into slavery falsely accused thrown into prison forgotten about but God doesn't forget man people forget I forget I make a promise I'm gonna call you and then I remember a week later that's why I say Jesus is a senior pastor of this church because I make a horrible senior pastor he makes a better senior pastor because he doesn't forget Joseph didn't just go through pain he went through prolonged pain and it just felt like it was never going to end there was a weight to that pain and it kept getting heavier and heavier and heavier and most men would have gave up don't ever be afraid to go above the storm and I'm gonna explain what I mean by that you will prolong the pain by never changing your perspective I remembered this I've shared it a few times but it's been a while since I shared it but I remembered because I just got off an airplane a few days ago I remember the first time I was gonna fly I had to go from Oakland to Denver

Colorado and in my generation the first thing I thought of a plane I thought of Ritchie Valens and La Bamba movie and I never been on a plane and I'm like yeah for sure that's how I'm gonna die too and I was freaking out it was 8 I was 8 I was about 20 20 years old 21 years old or so no I don't know how old I was after 25 I forget how old I was and I was alive you know so I was freaking out didn't want to go on a plane had to go to Oakland and that day the first day I'm ever gonna get on a plane there's a huge lightning storm all the way from here all the way to the Bay Area and I'm like for sure I'm gonna die this is it I was not a Christian but I was a Christian for that hour as I was driving to the freeway and I remember getting on that plane and that thing taking off and it was pouring rain the clouds were black and dark there was lightning there was thunder the clouds when it thunders they're just shining up the the clouds and as we're going up and then I didn't know nobody told me about turbulence the next thing you know the plane starts shaking I'm like this is it this is it but I love it a lot about but you don't mean like it's over and I think start shaking and if I was the pilot I would have landed back down in the storm but the craziest thing happened nobody ever told me about this that there's a dark the clouds we got into the clouds and they got blacker and blacker and blacker and the more the more started shaking and this and that I saw the thunder I mean I saw the lightning and it's flashing everywhere and and all of a sudden boom it went above it and all the clouds at the tops were pure white and the sky was perfectly blue as far as the eye could see and I couldn't believe it I remember looking out the window and I couldn't see the storm I couldn't see the lightning I couldn't see any of it anymore I couldn't see the rain it looked like the just just a bunch of cotton balls pure white in a beautiful sky and the turbulence stopped had I been the pilot I would have stayed in the storm had I been the pilot I would have landed back down had I been the pilot at the first shaking of turbulence I would have went back down and I'm here to tell you many of you you never seek God the way you're supposed to because the closer you seek God the

enemy's gonna give you turbulence the enemy's gonna shake things up you're gonna start to see lightning and thunder you're gonna start to see the rain and you get scared and that's his purpose to scare you so you can land back down and live in the storm or you stay in the storm but I'm telling you you need to rise and push through above it regardless of how heavy it gets and say there's no way I'm gonna rise above it because the Bible says that you're in heavenly places in Christ Jesus but many people want to live their Christian life down here living through the storm Pain doesn't feel good. So why is it that in the gym it feels good? Does it really feel good? Or does it feel good because you know what the pain is doing? You change your perspective. I don't like my legs are hurt, but if I'm on the leg press, then I like it. Why? The pain didn't change. But your perspective changed because you know you're working towards something. And finally, Joseph, the dream was to Pharaoh that they're going to have many years of good, many years of plenty. But then after that, it's going to come a famine and everybody's going to starve. So he told Pharaoh, this is what we do is on the good years, we gather the grain, gather the grain, gather the grain. And then when everything goes bad and the famine comes, we will have the grain that all the other nations won't have. And all of them will have to submit unto us and they will buy grain from us. Well, he built storehouses, grain upon grain, upon grain, upon grain, everything was good. But then the famine came. Remember his brothers that sold him? Well, guess what? There was famine in their land and they started hearing rumors.

They forgot about Joseph. They thought Joseph was dead. He was a slave somewhere. They didn't even think about him. And they're like, hey man, their dad, we need to go to Egypt because we heard they have grain. We're going to die. Our animals are going to die. And his dad was like, no, I don't want you to go. I don't want you to go. But it got so bad, so desperate. Finally the dad said, okay, go ahead. I already lost one son. I don't want to lose you guys either. And they went and they had no idea because Joseph was now a young man. He looked like an Egyptian. He dressed like an Egyptian and they actually bowed before him and he recognized them. They didn't recognize him. And finally, you got to read the story, but finally he was ready to reveal himself to them and he calls them and sits, brings them to a table and he sits them in by their ages from the oldest to the youngest. And they're just like, how does this person know? How did he sit us like this? And finally Joseph reveals himself to them. And as he reveals himself to them, they got afraid because they're just like, man, we sold him, threw him into a pit. He's going to kill us. He's going to murder us. And Joseph, he says, brothers, I'm not mad at you because see, he understood his perspective. He changed it.

Instead of the weight that was weighing them down, he realized that it was something else that was building in him in order to be in a position because now that he was in this position, he was going to be able to save the Hebrew people. And he tells his brothers, he was what you meant evil against me. God meant it for good to bring it about that many people should be alive, should be kept alive as they are today. That's Genesis 50, 20. For those of you that want to write notes, Genesis 50, 20. So what changed? What caused Joseph not to be angry at his brothers? He could have hated them. He could have tortured them. He could have done horrible things. He could have threw each one of them into a pit, sold them into slavery. Because God was faithful to him. Every place he went, he understood that even though this affliction, God, there's going to be something at the end of this. And I'm next affliction. God, there's going to be something to the end of this. This isn't for no reason. And then the next affliction and the next affliction. And he had to change his mind. He goes, either I'm the unluckiest man of the whole world, or God has a plan. God has a plan. God has a plan. And if you read the story, he told the brothers, he's listen, what you meant for evil, God is going to turn it for the good. And I'm telling you that if that was good enough for Joseph, that's good enough for you. That everything you need to change your perspective of everything you went through because you

do not want to go through life as a victim your whole life. That's a victim mentality and Satan loves a victim mentality because you will always blame everybody else. You will always see yourself as beneath and not above. You will see yourself as a tail and not the head. And the enemy can just crush you. You and keep you there Need to change it because you know what everything that you went through everything you've gone through it's happened You can't change it But can you change a perspective and say devil what you meant for evil God is gonna turn it around for good You might have made me an addict devil, but God is gonna turn it for good You might have made me an alcoholic, but God is gonna turn it for good You might have made me an ex-con and a criminal and a gang member But God is gonna turn this thing around for good, and I will reach people with the gospel of Jesus Christ Nothing will stop me no matter what you wanted to do devil Because God is always gonna get the upper hand You see it in it's interesting because David and Goliath David didn't take a sword All he had was a stone But what did he tell the life he says I'm gonna take your head off He didn't have a sword The very fact that he cut off Goliath's head with the enemy's own weapon The very weapon that Satan has used to bring you down is how you would decapitate those demons that have oppressed you His Affliction was long, but it produced a weight of glory that saved many many nations We go to 2nd Corinthians chapter 11 23 to 28 2nd Corinthians 23 to 28 Amen 2nd Corinthians 11 23 to 28 you ready This is the same church the same with the issues same one with problems

The same one that he told that the light of their light afflictions comparing to the weight of glory But look what he says He says are they servants of Christ I am a better one I'm talking like a madman With far greater labors Far more imprisonments With countless beatings and often near death. So he's talking to the church What was happening was he established a church at Corinth? He went away for a year and a half and he started getting letters saying amen Your church is falling off a bunch of leaders are coming and saying different things things that you didn't tell us to do These leaders are coming to tell us to do so He wrote this letter back and he basically is saying listen these these guys these leaders that are trying to come and reshape the church He said, you know, I'm gonna talk kind of crazy right now He says did they have far greater labors were they in prison for the gospel like I was Were they beat down for the gospel like I was were they left for dead like I was he says five times I receive at the hands of the Jews 40 lashes less one. You know the way Jesus was whipped Paul got that five times He says three times I was beaten with rods one time I was stoned three times I was shipwrecked a night in a day. I was adrift at this on sea He says I've been on frequent journeys and danger from rivers danger from robbers danger from my own people Danger from Gentiles danger in the city danger in the wilderness danger at sea danger from false brothers in Toil and hardship through many sleepless nights. I've been hungry and thirsty often without food in cold and exposure and apart from other things There's the daily pressure on me of my anxiety for all the churches Paul That are person that established their church as leaders were trying to Infiltrate the church and get him there He's like who are these leaders that are trying to dismantle what it is that God started with us He was you want to talk crazy we'll talk crazy

He said all these things have happened to me All these things I've gone through all these storms I've lived through all of these things that have weighed me down and weighed me down and weighed me down and weighed me down He says and even apart from the things I went through the anxiety that I get for the church He's pouring his heart out I've been beaten and shipwrecked and in prison and persecuted constantly You know, it's interesting that he called it a light affliction Same book. So this isn't a pastor that just had everything handed to him, went to seminary and everything is beautiful. He's just like, man, everything that I preach has weight to it because I have suffered for this message. I have suffered for the message that I preach about Jesus. There should be weight to the things I say. But you know what? All of the stuff I've been through is nothing but a light affliction because I can see the weight of glory compared to having Christ. So if Paul sees the afflictions as light, how many of you here have been shipwrecked? You have? Or whipped five times or beaten or left stoned to death? See, I don't think none of us have that kind of resume as a Christian, but he calls it a light affliction. He says, man, that's nothing because I've seen the revelation of Jesus. Because suffering produces something. In Romans 5, 3, 5, right before Corinthians, Romans chapter 5, verse 3 and 5, ready? He says, I'm going to read from one just to put it in context better. Romans chapter 5, verse 1. He says, therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him, we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God.

So he's talking about rejoicing, right? But look at the next verse, verse 3. He says, not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings. Talk about perspective change. We rejoice at our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance. Huh, I go cycling, and sometimes I suffer. My legs hate me. But what's that producing? Endurance. Suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character. And character produces hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. Tribulation creates patience, creates experience, creates hope. You can't get where you have gotten without these things. Many of you are strong because you've gone through things that has afflicted you, and you got through that because you got through it and made you strong. And not only that, but God uses pressure. James chapter 1. Let's go to James. Toward the back, sort of. Right after Hebrews. James chapter 1, verses 2 and 4. James is a brother, half-brother of Jesus. The reason I say half-brother is because he was from Joseph. He became one of the pillars of the church. And look what he wrote. Ready? James chapter 1, verses 2 and 4. There's that word joy again.

He says, count it all joy, my brothers. When you meet trials of various kinds. Look what he's saying. James is like, man, when I see the storm coming, I rejoice. What? His perspective. He says, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. I quit praying for patience because, especially when I'm driving or in Walmart. Don't pray for patience in Walmart. Don't do it. Because then every cashier is going to shut down except the one. He says, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness and let steadfastness have its full effect that you may be perfect and complete lacking in nothing god will use that pressure to grow you he will use that weight to to grow you not because it feels good because it's doing something in you i remember the first time i got covid and that was a rough one man but i remember right after that we ended up in the er i thought they were gonna keep her and i was like that's the last time i'm gonna see you it was bad we couldn't breathe and we're like like that like that's how that's how you were i was a little better and i'm like we need to go to the er she's like i'm not gonna eat r i'm gonna die with my family and then i said i can't breathe and we went but we got through it and and i remember it took a while to get our strength back i remember walking into i needed milk and there's no way i could walk into winco all the way to the back there's no way so i said i'll go to 7-eleven and i remember walking and around where the hot dogs are at i had to stop like it took everything out of me just to get it was bad and i remember we would um at night we would sing worship together because i didn't know if that was gonna be the last and we would sing worship and i have a horrible voice but it sounded even worse with no air

but we would worship together before going to sleep but after the fact our started gaining our strength back and i knew that because people would say well you should do this you should do that so you don't get it again and i'm just like i beat it though the fact that i lived means that my body fought and fought and fought through that affliction and fought and fought through that affliction and because i beat it now my body was prepared for the next round if it ever came the antibodies in my body said no because the lord had a plan and because of that like it says god was doing something in you that pressure that that that those things that were trying to destroy you literally made your body stronger when you break a bone when the bone fixes it becomes stronger than it was in the first place but you went through pain when the bone broke and your body says oh you're not breaking again so it builds calcium and makes it stronger than it ever was so god uses the pressures of this life to make you stronger romans 8 18 look what he says to the roman church here paul writing this to the church romans 8 18 ready he says for i consider he says for i consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us now if paul had never went through things there wouldn't be no way to his words right there'd be no way but because of the afflictions and the shipwrecking and the stoning and the whippings and leaving them for dead and the starving and and all of these things because he'd been through that affliction now his words hold weight and he's telling the church in rome he says man i consider the sufferings that i have suffered they're not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us there was weight to the words of paul and and many of you say why did i go through what i went through but maybe now there's weight to your words you know if you guys know uh sister lydia's testimony she was a heroin addict in oakland Is there no weight to her words when she talks to the young women at her job about drug addiction? Judy Ann too. I saw your inmate picture.

I would have crossed the street not pass by you. Like man, little short girls, crazy. But now you work with Lydia. Is there not weight to your words because these girls can't tell you nothing. You're like man, you think you've been through some stuff. Let me tell you. So there's weight to your story. The sufferings of the present time are not worth compared to the glory that is to be revealed to us. Back to 2nd Corinthians 418. This is the verse we started with. I should have told you to hold it. Oh wait, no, we didn't read that one. 418. That's a different one, right? As we look, not to the things that are seen, but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal. He's saying quit looking at the storm. Quit looking at the waves. Quit looking at the lightning. Quit looking at the thunder. Quit looking at the things that are falling apart because you're in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. If you base your eyes on everything that's going on around you, you're gonna lose. You're gonna lose sight. You're gonna lose your fight, but when you start looking at the things that are unseen and the things that the Word of God says, you're trying to escape something, but God is trying to produce something. The weight you feel isn't just pressure, it's production. Paul said this light affliction is working something, producing something, growing something. You know, when you plant a seed, you put dirt over that seed. So in other words, you put weight on that seed. What if every single seed refused to sprout because of the heaviness that was on it? You would have no trees. You'd have no fruit. You'd have no vegetables. You would have nothing. We would starve as a species. Every single seed started with weight on it, the heaviness of the dirt. That dirt isn't there to bury it. It's there to build it. The pressure of that isn't proof that you're dying. It's proof that something in you is trying to come alive. Some of you feel buried right now, but you're not buried. You're planted. You're planted. There's fruit that's supposed to come from your life, and you think you're buried in this, but the whole time that dirt was there so you can grow because that very same dirt that held you down is the same dirt that's going to keep the tree from falling. Your roots are going to embrace that dirt and pull nourishment from it. The very dirt that tried to bury me are the very things that my spirit is building roots into my past life, into my things that I used to be, and instead of it using it to destroy me, it's pulling nourishment from it so I can preach it to others. The dirt was never the enemy of the seed. Who else was buried like a seed? Jesus. Did he stay? Did he wake up and say, oh, I can't get out of this thing. I guess I'll just die here.

You're not buried. You're planted. I don't know all the answers as to why you've gone through what you've gone through. I don't know everything you've gone through, or you're going through now. I don't know. I wish I did know, but I know who does know. And some of you are in this room, you feel overwhelmed. Right now, you walked into here overwhelmed. Some of you feel tired. I mean, like, really tired, spiritually tired, mentally tired. Some of you have smiled all service long. But inside you were saying, I don't know how much more I can take. You're not alone. You are not alone. You're not buried. You're planted. Don't let the pressures of the dirt make you quit. Planted things don't stay under the dirt forever. There is something in you that the pressure cannot kill. There's something in you that the weight cannot crush. Because God put it there. It's all standing. I was reading this story. Don't know if it's embellished. Don't know if it's true. But I'm going to share this story anyway. There was a young soldier at the White House, weeping and weeping in front of the gates. And this young little boy came up next to him and saw the soldier crying and the little boy looked up to soldiers and he's like, sir, sir, why are you crying? And the soldier says, because I need to speak to the president and they won't let me in. I need to speak to the president and they won't let me in. And the boy says, that's all you want? Follow me. And he grabs a soldier by the hand and he walks them through the gate. Guards didn't say nothing.

Opens the door of the White House, the guards there, they don't say nothing. The soldier's confused. Walks them down the hallway into an office and Abraham Lincoln is sitting there. And the little boy comes and brings a soldier in front of Abraham Lincoln. And Abraham Lincoln says, what are you doing, son? He says, this soldier wants to talk to you. They say that there's a true story that Abraham Lincoln lost one of his sons in battle and because of that, he let his little son walk all over the White House doing anything he wanted to do. And the thing is that he brought him in because he was the son of the president. The guards didn't stop him. Nobody stopped him and he had free access to bring the soldier. I don't know if that story is true. And I don't know anything more about that, but I do know this, is that Abraham Lincoln is in his grave. The son grew up and is in his grave. But there's another son. There's another son. Matter of fact, it says, John 14, 6, Jesus said to him, I'm the way, I'm the truth and the life. And no one comes to the father except through me. There's no way for you to get to heaven. There's no way for you to get past the gates. There's no way for you to get past the seraphim and the cherubim. There's no way for you to get into the throne room of God and you're weeping and you're crying outside and you say, I don't know. I need to talk to God. I need to speak to him. I don't know how to escape this. I don't know how to let this stuff go.

I'm being weighed by life. I'm being weighed by all of these things. I don't know what to do. But there's somebody that is called the son and they call him Jesus and he comes to you at the gate because he knows you can't step in and he steps out and he finds you weeping. What is wrong, son? What is wrong, daughter? I just want to talk to God. And he grabs you by the hand, follow me. And he takes you into the throne room of God. I am the way and the truth and the life. And no one comes to the father except through me. We're going to open the altars in a minute, but for anyone that if you have not surrendered your life to Jesus and you're at that gate outside with all the weight of life weighing you down with chains holding you down and you are there and you don't know how to get where you need to go. Jesus is I'm the way I'm the truth and the life. You can't get there without me. If that is you, the Bible says that if you confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that Jesus is Lord, you shall be saved. so this is for you those of you watching through your screen this is the moment right here right now unless you like carrying around that weight but how about once and for all everything that the enemy has waved you down to destroy you that you allow God to turn it around for good that that no longer becomes a weight of affliction but he comes a weight of glory and if that is you I want you to repeat after me means nothing to be said out of your mouth only but if you scream it out from your heart it will mean everything and say Lord God I repent of all my sins I believe you died on the cross and after three days you rose in power take out my heart of stone and give me a brand new heart starting right now I drop all my weight at your feet everything I have

been through let it be used for your purpose and make me who I was always meant to be in Jesus name amen amen let's give the Lord a hand we're gonna open these altars if you have weight if you have a change of perspective that needs to happen I want you to come up to this altar because you should be filled with joy you should be filled with his presence you shouldn't be a Christian all grumpy you shouldn't be a Christian broken he has not called you to be broken he's called you to be whole he's called you not to be the tail but he's called you to be the head he's not called you to be unblessed he is called to bless you he wants to to do things in your life to shape things in your life he wants to bring unity back into your life I want you to come up and spend some time with your Savior bring that weight bring that weight and say Lord free me from this I want to trade my weight of pain for the weight of your glory let's worship altars open come on Oh bow down and say you are God every man bow down and say you are king so if God died now why would we wait Oh King of Glory fill this place just want to be with you just want to be with you King of Glory fill this place just want to be with you just want to be with you yes the world bow down and say you are God every man

Quickly. So I was addicted, I was addicted for 20 years. I was lost, I was broken. Since a child I was... Come on, sis. It's okay. It's okay. Since a child I was born, I was born addicted to heroin. My parents were both heroin addicts. And God saved me. He found me, he pulled me out. And today, you know, I have children.

And, you know, at times I feel like that weight of my child lost in his addiction. But I know, I know that God has a pen and I know that that endurance is gonna bring him out. I know that my God will bring him out because I know sometimes I gotta step out the way. And I just know that God, God gets all the glory because what he started, he will not complete until it's finished. I just love you, Lord. I just thank you, Lord. So I grew up in a similar situation, you know. I grew up in foster homes my whole childhood. Went to juvenile halls, boys camps, group homes. I went to California Youth Authority. Went straight to prison and in prison back and forth, back and forth my whole life. You know, I didn't believe in God. I didn't see that there, you know, I didn't see that there could be a God up in heaven that cared about me, you know. Until 2019, my whole life changed, you know. I dropped to my knees. I gave my life to God, you know. He blessed me with a beautiful wife that's on the same page, you know. And every day we try to get closer to God, you know. We know that it's not a performance. It's, you know, we believe in the name of Jesus. We believe that he died on the cross. We believe that he rose, you know. Our whole life has changed, you know. Amen. Amen. Lord, I pray for your weight of your glory to come upon this place right now. You are the chain breaker. You are the deliverer. You're the only one that can take the pains of our past and turn it around for good. Satan meant to bury us, but all that did was nourish us so we can take our past and use it for you. Some of us have been buried so deep. You do know that the higher a tree is going to grow, the deeper the roots got to be. And for some of you it seemed impossible. There's no way God could do something in your life, but look what God is doing now He's the one that turns things around He changes it He changes things in a way that nobody can change He will take you out of your darkness and place you into the light It is God it is Jesus. He's the only one

He's the one that will set the captive free I don't say this because again, I will talk crazy like Paul do I have been attacked for the gospel. I was jumped for the gospel They were planning my murder for the gospel in prison because I wouldn't quit preaching so you can't sit here and tell me Oh, you got it easy pastor. I lost everything It's worse than not being in prison and then I'm like God it can't get much worse and I got thrown in solitary confinement And I'm just crying out to God God it can't get any worse and then I'm going through life and then the the the mother of my children left me and I'm just like God it can't get worse than this And then I get out of prison and then I can't see my children And I'm like man, when is this affliction gonna stop? When is this weight gonna stop? But I continue to have faith in the Lord I continue to follow after Jesus and he showed me a vision and a dream And in the dream and the vision it was a place of worship And I was walking straight down the aisle and I remember looking down and I was wearing a suit You gotta remember in prison you're wearing the same old thing And I remember looking up and it was full of people with their hands raised worshiping the Lord And I looked to the right and I saw a woman and the Lord told me in that dream that woman on the right side of the stage is gonna be your wife I have something for you And if I would have allowed that dirt to keep me buried many of you wouldn't even be saved today And there's people in your family, there's people around you that are gonna be saved because of you persevering through the weight that was over you And you need to push past that Don't be the plane that wants to stay in the storm, be the plane and say I'm gonna get past this thing Because Jesus is the way, the truth and the life Let's worship, let's worship, let's finish this off Let's worship the Lord because there's a greater way to his glory Fill this space, just wanna be with you Just wanna be with you King of glory Fill this space, just wanna be with you Just wanna be with you King of glory
