Everything we do, we learn from them, glean from them, model after them. They have an amazing program there. They have a live-in situation where they actually have,

right on the ground, there's like 120 rooms. They train pastors. They train youth leaders. There's women that were going to get an abortion, and Grace International basically says, Listen, have the baby. We will house you. We will house you. We will feed you. Just have that baby. If you want to adopt that baby, that's fine, but let that baby live. We will take care of you. So, there's a whole wing of women that are there that pregnancies have been saved, you know, because of that. And one thing that we asked that's really awesome is I said, You know, our son Abraham really, really, every time we go to a conference or whatever, there he is in the media, regardless of what Grace Church it is. So, this Friday or Saturday, he's going to fly out there for a month and be trained by the worship and media team there. And I know he gets embarrassed, but I really wanted to pray him out because he's going to be gone before next Sunday. If Abraham can come up, we just want to pray over him. He's going to learn from the best, hopefully come back with some new things. And the pastor there was like, Well, we're going to teach you media, but we're going to teach you some more about Jesus too. And Abraham's like, I'm good with that too. So, if we could all stand up. It's his birthday month. He's going to be gone for his birthday. He's going to be in Texas.

Amen. Maybe we'll send him some barbecue money that day. Some brisket, Bucky's money. Amen. So, let's extend your hand. We're just going to pray for safety and for him too. Lord God, I thank you for Abraham. I thank you for everything that you've instilled in his heart, everything that he has learned running media since the age of 12 here, Lord God. I thank you so much for his heart, for his mind, for his tenacity, Lord God, and for him wanting to learn, Lord God, and willing to go down there, Lord God, and lean and learn so he can bring it back here, Lord God. We thank you so much that you watch over him on his flight, that you take care of him those 30 days that he will be there, Lord God, and his return way back, Lord God, that he just be emboldened over there, that he just sometimes we got to be away from family to receive a touch from you like never before, and I pray for revival to come into his heart more so, Lord God, for an anointing to come upon him, Lord God, for him to glean from them, from the leaders that are going to be surrounding him, Lord God, that he just not learn more just media stuff, but he learn more about God's stuff, Lord God. Today's message is called Teach Us to Number Our Days. If you can go to the book of Psalm chapter 90 verse 12. Psalm 90 verse 12. For those that are going to be baptized, I will let you know toward the end when we have altar call. And if you have to change or whatever, you'll have about 5 minutes to do that. And then just line up right here on the side here where that bench is at. Toward the end of service I'll let you know. Psalm 90 verse 12 says this in the ESV. It says, So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom. Teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom. You know, if you see the flyer, you see a couple having a son. In the middle of that son is graduating. And on the third picture, the son that graduated is now walking with his elderly parents. Because a lot of times life happens so fast that the same one that carried you, you end up carrying them. Someday this will all be over. Great way to start a Sunday service, huh? Someday this place will be over. You know, this used to be a Calvary Chapel Church in the 90s, 92 to 97. And I know they have a whole different campus, whole different area, but I'm sure some of the original people are no longer here. But at one point this place was filled with the entirely, completely congregation and those days are gone. Done. Your family, it'll be done. My family, your memories, the laughs between you and those that are around you will be done. The bills that we struggle to pay like it's the main thing won't even matter. The times that we're running late to see the movie that's in the theater will be done. The stress that we get sitting in traffic, someday it'll be done. I guarantee you right now someone is in ICU wishing they could be caught in traffic one more day. It's done. The books we read, it's like all these books and all these things and then it's done. All of it. Psalm 90, 12, Lord, teach us to number our days that we may get wisdom. It's a prayer, it's a cry, that sometimes we're just like, man, I want to use my day for something important. I want to use it. the day you're just like man did I really do something important or did I

just fill my day up with stuff and he says that we may get a heart of wisdom Lord teach me let me see what is it I'm doing you know in reading the Bible a lot of times we forget that these when we're reading through Genesis and Exodus or Isaiah or Jeremiah the book of Daniel or even the Gospels or or Paul's letters we we see it as scripture we see it as the Word of God but these are real people with real lives they really lived on this earth that we walk on they had real feelings real tears real laughs real family when you read Joseph and his brothers they were really brothers they they they were they were on this earth these are real people these aren't made-up stories that we read real lives that had triumphs and victories and heartbreaks and betrayal real lives just like us real worries just like us and I think a lot of times we forget that we forget to humanize Paul as he's writing his letter from prison we forget to humanize Jesus as he was weeping and his disciples are falling asleep and the Bible says that he cried blood I mean I know that you've been stressed and I've been stressed have you ever been so stressed that your tears are blood and we take out the humanity because it becomes scripture becomes a story and and we believe it and we know it but but we forget that they were humans I mean what did Peter feel like when when he denied Jesus three times and the Bible says that he ran off and he wept have you ever wept so hard that it feels like your heart is gonna rip open like like you're like your chest is somehow going to give out Peter was a real person and when we need to humanize it you know I remember years a year and a half maybe two years I don't remember we went to Texas when my grandparents were from my mom's side and there was a barber shop that my grandpa would go to he did not let nobody else cut his hair he would go there and that was it no ands ifs or buts after he was going the thing was his hair didn't grow I don't know what the barber was cutting that's the story I hear I remember as a child he was always real sharp and then he'd be like I'm gonna go get a haircut I'm like there's nothing to cut you know he had hair don't get me wrong it just didn't grow when he would visit us here in California there was a certain barber he would go to and Tracy he didn't go

nowhere else but when he was in Texas he would go there in a little town of Staples where my mom was born and he would only go there and I remember for years telling Sharon someday I'm gonna take you to see where my family's from and I had that opportunity and I I went and I and I and I parked outside of that barbershop it was still there and I parked outside and I told her that's that's where my grandpa used to go and so I was standing outside because I was filming it and a guy comes out he goes can I help you because I don't think you need a haircut that probably looks suspicious right a bald guy taking picture in front of a barbershop and I just I said well I said my grandpa used to come here and he goes oh he was who was your grandpa and I said you know Ponciano Marmolejo and he goes oh Marmolejo he was like I think I remember that family and he goes my dad was a barber here and he goes so then my dad was your grandpa's barber and he was you want to see inside because the original stuff is still there and I remember I walked in there and and and he goes this this chair your grandpa sat right here in this chair he will see that bullet hole I was like yeah he was bunch of guys were and they were drunk waiting for their haircut one guy was showing his gun and look the hole still there a different time right and then he says and then he had a picture of his dad and he was this is this is my dad that was your grandpa's barber he was but he he passed on you know and and it's it's a strange moment because at one moment in times past there was a whole life there and there was you know men that would go there get their haircut and this this barber would be there and here I am standing in the place where my grandpa probably never thought someday when my grandson is in his 50s he's gonna come sit here and see this chair but it's gone never to return again a moment that would never come back again and and and that sometimes it's hard for me to to think that it's hard for me to imagine that because and if that is then what about this what if someday your grandchildren are gonna pass by this building if this building still standing or if it's a parking lot and they're gonna say now when I was little or that's where my mom and dad were at

Sunday school and it's gonna be long gone and it's gonna be done and that's a it's a crazy thing to think you know I have to confess I went to see the Michael Jackson movie I debated wearing one glove to preach and moonwalking but the carpet if there was no carpet I would have glided from there all the way to there the movie was a thriller yeah if he had the drums he couldn't cymbal crash is that what they call it she didn't like that joke that's my granddaughter she's like grandpa that was not funny so anyways I went to see the movie and I'm sitting there me Sharon Abraham Sienna my youngest daughter and her new husband the one that just got married on in January and they showed the scene and those of you gonna show your age because remember back then when the music awards like everybody would sit in front of the TV watching music awards remember okay it wasn't just me it was like a big deal before politics got involved yes way back when and there was a scene where Michael Jackson first did the moonwalk live and I told I'd read I leaned over to Sharon I said tell Aaliyah I saw that live on TV when he did that that moment when he did that moonwalk who remembers that right who started practicing it right after that still do I think it said 1988 when that happened wait my math I was born 72 I was 16 and here I am 54 reliving a moment when I was 16 with my daughter and I was like I never thought back then when I was watching that man someday I'm gonna seen this moonwalk I'm gonna be 54 years old and I'm gonna see this with my newly married daughter it's crazy right just time time time just passes too fast and then on Friday that same daughter who I walked down this aisle in January same daughter that watched the moonwalk on the other night Thursday she graduated MJC amen and she's like dad is just an associates I'm like what are you talking about I'd celebrate when you graduated kindergarten what are you talking about those are big moments those are moments that matter because someday those moments will be gone Someday those moments are gonna be history and all you're gonna see is that when you close your eyes and you remember that and and I remember sitting up 900 students my back was hurting a student one those bleachers anyways

there's another sermon about back pain but 900 students oh so when they did the the music and all that and and they all start walking out I'm just like looking for looking for looking for her and and I struggled and finally we tracked her down that you know it was crazy right because all you saw was blue gowns and these white robes and and it just looked like a massive amount of people but somewhere in that crowd was my heart somewhere in that crowd and it's just crazy because it's just another student to everybody else but but but it's just like my just somewhere in that crowd was my heart and memories and and moments that to somebody else it didn't mean nothing the people passing down College Avenue were totally it meant nothing but for me it was a it was a precious moment a moment that that someday the world will forget just another student another blue gown memories moments Lord teach us to number our days young David was anointed the king of Israel as a young man and when Samuel came to anoint him he anointed him to be the king of Israel but he didn't become king that day that next day that week or even that month do you know many scholars say between 11 to 19 years most likely around 15 years it took him from the moment he was anointed to be king all the way until he became king so as a young man he's anointed to be king but he didn't become king yet so it was interesting because was he anointed a king or was he anointed into pain because that's what happened after it wasn't like he was anointed king and the next day he's in the palace and and everything is great for him it's almost like the pain started when the anointing began and many of us think that life is going to be different when we give our life to the Lord and we're crying our eyes out and we come before the altar and and and it's like all God's gonna change God's gonna fix my marriage he's gonna fix my kids he's gonna fix me he's gonna fix my situation he's gonna fix my issue he's gonna get me out of jail out of prison out of probation out of parole he's gonna do all of these things and then what happens is instead of getting this crown life became harder and pain started because your friends rejected you some of your family rejected you and all the all the things of this world came against you and

you're just like man I got anointed to be a new child of God but instead I feel like I got anointed with pain where's the palace where's the crown where's the jewels it's like I came into you Lord and then you dip me into pain and then he became king years later because once pain grew what it had to grow in him and a thought came to my mind right that I came to this realization that there is no growth without pain there is no growth without pain ask a pregnant woman or those of you women that have held a child before you get to hold that little jewel it's pain because you can't have that without the pain you know right away when what is a baby do when its teeth begin pushing through the gums pain without growth without pain I'm sorry there's no growth without growth there's no teeth so in order to grow there has to go through pain there's a thing called growing pains I remember being 12 13 14 I remember like my legs would hurt you oh I wasn't the only one Oh, thank God, I thought I was like, weird. They're called growing pains. Your body, your bones are literally growing. And you have pain. I thought I was only 12 year old smelling like Ben Gaye at night. Remember that mom? Well, you didn't grow. I need a drummer. I told you I was a comedian. He set himself up for that one. That was low hanging fruit. Just don't tell him about the hot wheel you threw at my face. Growing pains. You don't grow without pain. Or how about this? Many of you, you go to the gym. What is there growth without pain?

No, the more you want to grow, the more pain you're going to feel. Same thing with my bike rides. I'm going on bike rides and I'm 10 miles away from home. And like, now I got to pedal back. I'm just like, should I fake a flat and call Sharon? Yeah, we called, I had to call Uber once because I couldn't take it. Little side story, right? But we were in Dublin. There's a bike ride from Dublin all the way to conquer 25 miles there. And 25 miles back, 50 miles altogether. Iron Horse Trail. That's right. Starts at the BART. And me and Sharon decided we're going to do that ride. We went out there like, I don't know, eight in the morning. And, um, we didn't know there was going to be a heat wave that day. So we go all the way down there and we stop at, I don't know where, what store it was. They had food in there, huh? Whole foods. And we're just all, we're like, Oh, let's enjoy some air condition. We ate, I don't know what we ate, whatever. We're eating there for like an hour and we're just sitting in there. By this time it was like one o'clock and we're like, well, let's, let's, let's ride back. Oh man. When we stepped out, have you ever been slapped by heat? It was bad. And, um, we, we got on our bikes and started riding and a couple of miles. I'm like, I can't do this. I called Uber. So anyways, back to the pain.

Yeah. 18 miles on a heat wave. It was like 108. Nothing grows to maturity without pain. King David's son later on, he had a son named Solomon who became the king of Israel. And that king, when he became king, he prayed to God and he's like, the Lord told them, what do you want from me? And I love this because Solomon could have said, I want all the riches. I want all the money. I want more land. I want more power. And his prayer was Lord give me wisdom because I don't know what I'm doing. He asked for wisdom. He could have asked God for anything in the world, but he asked God for wisdom. And God says, because you ask for something as this, I will give you, you will be the most wisest man in all the earth before and after. And because of that, I will give you all these other things. But in Ecclesiastes, Solomon wrote this book in Ecclesiastes chapter one, starting at verse one, for those of you that want to go to it. And he shares some wisdom here. Ecclesiastes chapter one, verse one. We'll start there. It's right after Proverbs. Ecclesiastes chapter one, right at the beginning of it. King Solomon wrote this after a time after the he was king he was probably an older man by now the bible says he was the wisest man to ever live kings would come queens would come just to get his advice

from other nations and ecclesiastes chapter one starting at verse one it says the words of the preacher the son of david king in israel so after him having he had everything he could ask for and look what he says in verse two vanity of vanities says the preacher vanity of vanities all is vanity so he's at the end he has everything he wants and he's like man it's all for nothing verse three what does man gain by all the toil at which he toils under the sun i remember i knew a man that he worked and worked and worked and every time he was given overtime he did overtime and he lived his whole life working and working and working and finally when he retired he said i thought i was doing it for my family but while my family was making memories i was at work i missed parties graduations sickness awards at school and he says what does man gain by all the toil all the work he does at which he toils under the sun and verse four says a generation just goes and a generation comes but the earth remains forever that man actually didn't retire he was working there always he gave his whole life for that job one day he fell from a ladder hurt his back couldn't go back to work guess what the next day they just replaced him with somebody else expendable a number and that's what this verse says this is a generation goes and a generation comes but the earth remains forever it's going to keep passing somebody else is going to be driving on ninth street when we're gone somebody else is going to be in walmart when we're gone somebody else is going to be paying that same bill at that same house it just keeps going and going and going a generation goes a generation comes but the earth remains forever verse five the sun rises and the sun goes down and hastens to the place where it rises

it just keeps going in a circle and this is solomon he's the king of israel and he's coming toward the end of his life and he's just like man what is this all for what is it for it's like i work hard to get this car but the moment i drive it off of the lot it's depreciated it lost its value what good is this all for so many people they they they they go and want to buy the latest fashion clothes or the latest this and in six months it ain't worth nothing anymore the generation goes and comes verse six is the wind blows to the south and goes around to the north around and around goes the wind and on its circuits the wind returns everything goes in full circle all over again and it is it's enough to drive a person mad when you think about it and i truly believe that's why we fill our lives with noise especially when you were without christ at least i did i filled my life with noise some of you think i'm weird but i drive without music i i don't do it because i'm musicked out you know why and and i think this because all my life i would drown my life with noise if i wanted to be around people wanted to be around noise the tv had to be on the car had to be on the radio had to be on the speakers had to be bumming they had to be constant noise because when it got quiet i had to deal with who i really was and sometimes like on these bike rides i take i don't put no music no nothing i just want to hear the wind because i would fill my life with noise the wind blows to the south and goes around the north around and around goes the wind and on its circuits the wind returns we just fill our life with noise but in verse 7 he says all the streams run to the sea but the sea is in full

constantly the same thing all over again Go to Lake Tahoe, you go to Reno, you see the Truckee River and all that rushing river, and it all goes to the ocean for what? Just to be evaporated again? And the clouds take it and bring it and drop it again, and there it goes again. It's the same thing with our life, it's the same thing with our bills, it's the same thing with everything. Everything's in a circle, and Solomon's like, man, I just want noise because if I really think about this, I realize that I am nothing in the midst of this galaxy. And everything's just in a circle. That's why, man, some people take life too serious. Some of us take ourselves too serious. Some of us, we get stressed out on the littlest of drama. What are you stressing about? Because life is just going to go on and on and on anyways with you, without you. All streams run to the sea, but the sea is not full. To the place where the streams flow, and there they flow again. Verse 8, it says, all things are full of weariness. A man cannot utter it. The eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing. You know what that verse reminds me of? The eye is not satisfied with seeing. You're just like, man, if I could just go to Hawaii, if I could just go to Hawaii. Then you go to Hawaii, and you're like, oh yeah, there's the bucket list, and then you see Tahiti or something. You're like, if I could just see Tahiti, and then you end up going to Tahiti, and you're just enjoying it. This is awesome, this is beautiful, and you're like, man, if I could just see Spain. You know, because the eye is never satisfied. Some of you married people got to quit looking on Instagram. Don't let that pause. Oh, look how beautiful she is. Man, look at who's with you. Because you know what? There's always going to be one prettier, and one prettier. We're more handsome, we're more handsome. And it's just like, why? Because Scripture says the eye is not satisfied with seeing. We're just constantly searching. Constantly looking at the humanity. It wants to constantly look, because the enemy knows that all of us have a little timer. Those little egg timers. And all of us have a timer, and he just wants to just have you doing just nothing. Just chasing. You know what they call that? A gerbil. A hamster. Yeah. Going in circles.

And at the end of that hamster's life, it got nowhere. It did a whole lot of movement and got nowhere. How about instead of looking for what's better, you're just like, Lord, show me how to water what I have. Show me how to cultivate what I have. Show me, Lord God. Let me be satisfied, Lord God. Let me see to the point where everything else is a blur. You know, sometimes in a camera, when you focus, sometimes you can focus on the background where the person in front of you is blurry. And some of us live our life like that. I rebuke that in the name of Jesus. Focus that thing where the background is blurry, and the one in front of you is just crystal clear. And let that focus not only on who you're with, but your family, your children, your job, and the things that you have. And be satisfied, because if not, the human heart, the God of this world will have you like a hamster, because the eye is not satisfied. And in verse 9, you gotta take this from a man. He had all kinds of wives and side chicks. I don't even know, off the top of my head, I don't know how many wives this dude had. That ain't wisdom, right? All kinds of wives. And women on the side. And this dude is saying, this is all going in circles. This is just vanity of vanity. I mean, the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing. And verse 9 says, what has been is what will be. And what has been done is what will be done. And there is nothing new under the sun. You know, it's like, I trip out even in ministry. There's some pastors that sometimes maybe we can get a heart of, oh, how can we do this? How can we make that happen? How can we this and that or whatever? But here's the thing, right? Okay, let me say it like this. I remember when we lived in Stockton, when they opened in Canes. Is that what it's called, canes? Chicken? Yeah. If you know where it's at in Stockton, it's in the Target parking lot on Pacific. And that line went all through the parking lot, all the way through Delta College.

It was insane. And I remember we would see it, right, and we're like, yeah, I'm not that hungry. I wanted to try it, right? I mean, why not? It's a new spot. And this line, I mean, I'm serious, it went all the way behind Target, that little side road at Delta. It was crazy, right? But it's like, no matter what, eventually that dwindled down to like one or two cars over the months. And we waited. Remember? We're like, we're going to try it. Now, oh, the line's getting shorter, maybe next month. And finally, one day we drove by there, like, oh, there's two cars, let's pull in. Because you know what? That crowd went to the next place that was opening. So when you try to be, if you have your mind set on ministry and you want to be that guy, the crowds will come. But then they'll move on to the next. Next thing you know, you're Canes with two people. The only line I don't see dwindled down is In-N-Out. But that's because it has scripture on the bottom of the cup. That's my personal opinion. Just saying. Chick-fil-A, also. Who's hungry now? Call them and realize that it's the same thing over and over and over. When we do things, we shouldn't live our lives according to try to please people, because eventually those people will be pleased with something else.

We have to find something deeper within ourselves to seek after God other than people. When you chase after likes, when you chase after this, you chase after that, eventually someone's going to like something else. And you're old news now. And we have to realize, okay, life has to be something more than this, because when it's over, it just keeps going. It just goes without me. In Psalm 90, if we can go there, back where we started from the very first verse, I should have told you to hold it. Psalm 90, start at verse 1, though. Because we quoted verse 12, but I quickly want to go through these verses to build up to 12 so we get it in the right context of what we're talking about when we talk about 12, because we started this message with verse 12. But in Psalm 90, I want to show you something. I'm just going to read through it. Psalm 90, verse 1, and it says, the psalmist wrote this, he says, Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mounds were brought forth, or even you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting, you are God. It says, you return man to dust, and say, return, O children of man. For a thousand years in your sight are but as yesterday when it is past, or as a watch in the night. You sweep them away as with a flood. Or like a dream, like grass that is renewed in the morning. And in the morning it flourishes and is renewed, and in the evening it fades and it withers. For we are brought to an end by your anger, by your wrath we are dismayed. You have set our iniquities before us, our secret sins in the light of your presence. For all our days pass away under your wrath, and we bring our years to an end like a sigh. The years of our life are seventy, or even by reason of strength eighty. Yet their span is but toil and trouble, and they are soon gone, and we fly away.

Who considers the power of the Lord? your anger and your wrath according to the fear of you and this is where the psalmist says so teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom so as he's writing this he's considering life he's like man i'm gonna go back to dust and and for us a thousand years and to the lord he goes oh that was just yesterday that's wild right when when you think of that when you when you really start to think of that that the the psalmist is is realizing what's interesting is the psalmist we don't know who wrote this because king david wrote most of psalms but we don't know who wrote this one but there's wisdom in what he's saying he's realizing what the same thing solomon was saying in ecclesiastes everything goes back and forth and back and forth and a thousand years passed and to the lord you're like man remember a thousand years ago he's like you mean yesterday but a thousand years to us and and this is what what what to me comes down to in the apostle paul in second timothy if we can go there he says something very interesting that i think is going to put this whole message into perspective about the lord teaching us to number our days in second timothy chapter four verse six i want to share with you something that that he said now as you're looking for that scripture paul was writing this to timothy who was probably one of his younger students and he was so close to timothy that he considered timothy his son and as far as we know this is paul's last letter not only his last letter this is his last chapter and we know that paul was beheaded he had his head cut off because he refused to stop preaching the gospel so as far as we know this is his last written words at the end of his last written letter and he says this in second timothy chapter four verse six and this is what he's saying to timothy he says for i am already being poured out as a drink offering and the time of my departure has come he says i fought the good fight i finished the race i have kept the faith oh we're gonna read aid but but paul understood something solomon didn't because solomon had all the gold all the women all this and all the wisdom and all of that but yet he had so much wisdom he was blind to the truth that paul a tent maker could see and then to paul he's like listen man i've lived my whole life but you know what i have no regrets i tell you why i have no regrets because i pushed toward jesus i fought in the good fight i finished my race and i have kept my faith the only thing that would keep him from going

nuts is realizing that he was doing this in his short time here on earth for a purpose and verse eight says henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness which the lord the righteous judge will award to me on that day and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing so paul understands and he says listen this is what life is about if we don't have a purpose unto the lord we're going to go in circles and circles and circles and it's not going to make any sense anymore but he says man i push to the prize i go forward pushing the gospel and because of that it gave me purpose and the day is coming timothy where my days are going to be done here on earth but i will stand before him and he will crown me he will see me i will see him face to face and he will award me on that day and i love that because he answered because he says this ain't just about me he says not only to me but to all those who loved his appearing do you realize if you love him everything you do unto the lord is for a purpose everything you do for the lord is not a waste everything you do for jesus is is not going to dissipate all the prayers that you have prayed i don't know how many times my grandma prayed for my salvation but i didn't get saved until years later because even though she died the prayers didn't die and the prayer was heard and the purpose was done because even though generations come and generations go even though all of those things happen the things we do that's the very first thing I remember my one of my son-in-laws I remember meeting him in the beginning before all the granddaughters and the babies and I remember telling him something like this I said you know treat my daughter right we won't have a problem I said and I understand that you're gonna work hard and then you're gonna make a home for her and and those are good things but the most important thing do not take her away from the Lord I said the most important thing you as a man can do is bring Jesus into the house because the house the cars the money what all that good things while you're here on earth but the Bible says that we are nothing but a vapor and you want to give them something everlasting you want to really love your future children then do not keep them from the Lord because that is the greatest thing as a man that you can do for your family let's make our days count so teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom

I'm gonna wrap this up but as we do that I want to share one last thought with you the fact that the psalmist who wrote that verse is asking God to teach us is because maybe just maybe maybe the psalmist doesn't know how to use his limited days that he has so the person is writing the Psalms and he just like Lord you know what I have so many ideas of what I want to do so many places I want to go to so many things I want to experience all these things Lord and I think to me it seems like my life will be fulfilled at the very end if I go here and do this and do that and make this and make that and and do all these things but I love the psalmist when he finally comes to himself he says but Lord he says uh-uh teach me because because I don't know if what I'm doing is right Lord teach me how to number our days give me a heart of wisdom God so he asked God for wisdom and maybe if the psalmist did then maybe we should too maybe we should ask God for wisdom so many of us fill our calendars up with all these things have we asked God about it are these things going to matter in the end are they really going to matter some of us stress about so many things but is it really going to matter in the end so many of us worry about everybody what everybody thinks about us but does that even matter in the end and and I think that we can get discombobulated with those things and I think there's wisdom in the psalmist he's saying Lord teach us our days that I have a heart of wisdom so I can use my days right I don't know if I'm the only one at the end of the day I'm just like Lord what did I really do today for you and you know what sometimes that's a Sunday that I say that what did I really do Lord give me wisdom give me wisdom Lord God that in these moments because sometimes there's little moments that I have missed that I realize man God set that up and I dropped the ball Lord give me wisdom so I see this crowd of 900 students at MJC and I'm looking and looking and looking and my eyes ain't that great I even put my my glasses on and I still couldn't find her I couldn't find her in the midst of the crowd and thank God for cell phones right because she texts me as she's sitting somewhere in that crowd and she texts me and she's like dad I found you I was like what do you mean

and she'd sent me a picture and it was really blurry but I zoomed in and I could see us she was I found you because even though she was in the midst of 900 students she didn't pay it see even though there was 900 students was probably like 2,000 people watching but she wasn't paying to the 2,000 paying attention to the 2,000 people she was looking for her father sometimes in the people that we're around in the life that we're around those things don't matter because we're just trying to find the father and we're searching and searching through life and we're looking we're like dad where are you father in heaven where are you looking and looking and looking there's people giving speeches she ain't paying attention there's people clapping she ain't paying attention because she wanted to see where her dad was she sends me that picture and then kind of I'm I'm weird like this according to the angle where she took it I started figuring out where to look and then I found her and I was able to see her from that moment on I was locked on to her and I could see her and at that moment I didn't pay attention to the speeches being given being honest I'm sure they were good to the students I gave them I didn't pay attention to the other 899 students my eye was for her that was my heart and all I had was so much pride and excitement for the future of her life and if me an ex-con can have those kinds of feelings for a daughter how much more your father in heaven that when you seek him and seek him and seek him and finally you come to a place and you hear the gospel where you're like father I see you now you're kind of blurry but I see you now and he says oh I see you I see exactly where you're at and and for that moment you know what's crazy about God is that I don't know how many billions of people are here on this earth but when you say father I see you boom all of a sudden everybody gets blurry and he sees you nice and clear and he has his eyes on you and he ain't paying attention to all the noise around you he ain't paying attention to those things all he sees is you Wow your father in heaven he sees you you know he says I would never leave you nor forsake you Lord if you see me

then I want to make you proud and even though I'm in a crowd of billions of people you see me he says you're my heart you're my son you're my daughter yeah but I've done this and I've done that and this and I see you I see you I see you but God I failed mmm because you're made from dust but I see you God I messed up I keep messing up yeah I know but I see you because I called you to something great and because you thought there's no way maybe I'm not called life is nothing but pain life is nothing but hurt and the Lord is saying listen I I baptized you in pain because I wanted you to grow you didn't go through that for nothing you're not going through that for nothing this is not happening for nothing I needed to baptize you in pain because in pain comes growth because I have a crown for you I have a reward for you I have something for you something greater something you never imagined Jeremiah 33 3 says call unto me cry out to me and I will show you great and mighty things you never imagined Our children will never know how many times we prayed for their salvation. They will never know. So then they come to a church service, and we're all excited. Or they watch a church service, we're all excited. Mom, I just watched a live stream. No, no, no, you don't understand. Like my daughter, it's just an associates. Well, to you it's an associates. But I see something greater. It's Austin. When we do things unto the Lord, there's a purpose. Through the pain, there's a purpose. Through the struggle, there's a purpose. When we are following the wisdom of what He wants for us in our life. You know, everything I've gone through in my life makes zero sense until I put Jesus in the center of it.

And when I put Him in the center of it, I stop going mad or insane because all of a sudden everything makes sense. Every walk, every mistake, every stumble, every heartbreak, every betrayal, every pain. All of it makes sense when I focus on Him. Lord, teach us to number our days. Let every day matter, Lord. See, see, here's the thing I want to tell you is that I don't want you to leave here saying, Oh, so I got to be like super Christian and go in the corners and start preaching. That's not what I'm talking about, man. If you're a mother, if you're a father, if you're a son, if you're a daughter, do things unto the Lord. You don't have to always take that over time. You don't always have to say no to them when they want to go to wherever it is they want to go to. We would find ways. You know, our kids remember is going to San Francisco and eating at Golden Gate Park with sandwiches. And they were just like, man, you used to take us all the time. And I'm just like, because we were broke. So we would pack sandwiches and some Gatorades and take them to Golden Gate Park and go to the cliff house, to the beach, because all it cost us was gas. But to the kids, that was huge. You know what? Because now that they're older, guess what? They take their husbands or they take their girlfriends or wherever, they take them to the places that we took them to as kids. Let everything you do, guys, at your job, at your school, in your life, in your marriage, let it be done with the purpose of Christ, because if Christ isn't in the center of it, after a while, it will make zero sense.

We want to be like the Apostle Paul, where he says, I am, I'm already being poured out like an offering. And the time of my departure is coming. And the time of my departure has come. And I have fought the good fight. I finished the race. And I've kept the faith. Henceforth, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day. And not only to me, but also to all who have loved his appearing. Let's make our days count. If there's anyone here that you have not surrendered your life to the Lord, those people that are being baptized, you guys can start lining up now. Make sure you have your communion with you. We're going to have communion. But if anybody here, if you are not yet saved, I'm going to say this boldly. If you are not yet saved, you have no purpose. You're just like the thing that's recycling. You're the hamster on the wheel. You can go in all kinds of places, but you ain't getting nowhere. If that is you, whether you're here or you're watching through the screen, Panda, WeDovo, Facebook, YouTube, whatever it is, today's the day of salvation. Tomorrow's not promised. It could be the most important thing you ever do in your life. And if that is you, I'm going to give you the opportunity to surrender your life to Jesus today. Today. Right now. Right now. Right now.
