You may be in your living room worshiping in front of the TV. You may be watching on your smartphone. However you are tuning in, we are glad that you're here. And like Micah said, we're recording this before the storm kind of hits. So I don't know exactly what has happened, but I want you to hear this. If you have been negatively impacted by the storm, or if you have a care need, it doesn't matter how many inches of snow or ice are on the ground in Tulsa, your church wants to care for you because that's what the church does. The church family cares for one another in the good times and especially in the hard times, in the trying times. So if that's you and you have a care need, please let us know. I'm gonna voice this prayer, but we could pray this together as a church. Let's do this. We're gonna pray for the protection and the provision of God all throughout this weekend. Can we do that? Bow your heads with me if you will. Dear Heavenly Father, thank you that we have the technology to though we're apart physically, we can gather in this way together as a church. And so right now, God, I'm praying for your protection and your provision. I'm praying against power outages. I'm praying against vehicle accidents on the road. I'm praying that you would provide what's needed by way of supplies and food and medications. You're a God who says you are always with us. You never forsake us. And God, give us the ability to care for one another as a church family around the city. I just ask that your hand be upon the city of Tulsa right now, that the fallout from a winter storm like this would not be bad, but that you would care for all of us as we move through this. God, use the rest of our service though we're apart to knit our hearts together in you. We pray these things in Jesus' name, amen.

Well, hey, Church on the Move, how are you doing? Safe and warm, we hope and pray. It's a little bit different weekend. We're doing this differently. I'm speaking to an empty room because the weather is supposed to hit. We're recording this before the weather rolls in, so we do not know the extent of what is going on in our city, but we are praying for you, we're praying for our church family. That includes our men at Dick Connor Correctional Facility, our ladies at Eddie Warrior. We are so glad, it is such a privilege to have you a part of our church family. So welcome to you wherever you are watching or listening from. We're talking about breakthrough. We all have an idea of what breakthrough is supposed to look like in our lives, their areas. We all know we need breakthrough. It could be mentally, it could be physically. We need breakthrough financially, vocationally, relationally. There are all kinds of areas, outward pursuits where we desire breakthrough. But it's important that we get on the same page, and so we have a foundational text. This is the genesis of our idea and God's idea of breakthrough. Jesus says this in John 10.10. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I have come that they may have life

and have it abundantly. That is breakthrough. It is abundant life. It is the capital L life. It is life fulfilled. And this is the life that Jesus came and died and was resurrected to give us. And the question becomes, are you living an abundant life? If you have missed any of the messages previous in this series, my brother has taught, they are incredible. And it's more than just amazing teaching. It's the word of God to you. The word of God to us. us comes in a way that we are to build truth upon truth upon truth. The prophet Isaiah wrote God's words to him. The Lord said that knowledge is given precept upon precept, line upon line. It is built up and so if you missed any of the previous messages this goes far beyond views or clicks. What we want for you is we want for you to build properly and that's what I'm going to do today. I'm going to talk about breakthrough from an overview focusing on the thread from the beginning to the end. Some things I'm going to talk about we have touched on before. In fact, we've gone into great detail on some of the things that I'm going to talk about. Some of the other things we have yet to get to. Next week my brother is going to be back here in this pulpit speaking about the practices of God and how we implement God's ways in our life. But today we're going to just bird's eye view. It'll be a little different, a little abbreviated, but this is going to be powerful. I want to read to you out of the book of 2 Peter. This is a text that we've been focusing on while we've been in this teaching. 2 Peter chapter 1. If you don't have a Bible you can grab it and you don't have an excuse because you can hit a pause button and you can go find a Bible. You might even go drift through the snow and try to find an open Mardel. Buy you a Bible, come back, hit unpause. 2 Peter chapter 1. I'm going to read verses 3

through 8. It says this. His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. For this reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness and to goodness knowledge, and to knowledge self-control, and to self-control perseverance, and to perseverance godliness, and to godliness mutual affection, and to mutual affection love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. This is the word of the Lord and wherever we're at we said thanks be to God. There are five areas of focus that I want to briefly touch on that I see in these verses and here are these areas. Provision, participation, practice, progress, and presence. And you know it's from God because there's this divine alliteration. They all start with a P. Provision, participation, practice, progress, and promise. We're going to start here of course with the foundation provision. It says this in 2nd Peter 1. His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life. We have been given everything we need. God has acted decisively on our behalf. There is nothing that God is withholding from you that is keeping you from living the life you were called to live. However, I know that many believers in Christ would maybe in some sense agree with this but deep down we feel that something is missing. I know this from personal experience. For many years as a young man I felt that there was something that God had not given me that I needed. Maybe it was something that was external. Something taken from me that I felt like I needed to possess. A confidence, a boldness, whatever it might have been. Just something that if I had the strength and the power to do this but for this reason that is not really on me I am unable to progress. But God has given you everything that you need. He has acted by his grace. He has blessed you. You have what you need to live a godly life but we often find ourselves crying out to God for more. Whenever I was a kid there was a song we used to sing in children's church. We sang it all the time. More love, more power, more of you in my life. Now I'm not condemning the song but honestly the notion is not entirely accurate. Why? Because he's given us everything that we need and it's not just inaccurate. Quite honestly there's a deception. in it. I said this earlier in John 10 10 that Jesus has come that we might have life and have it abundantly but that abundant life is opposed, it's opposed by

a thief. Now how does the thief thieve? The thief steals from us in this way. His strategy is not primarily destruction through force but rather destruction through deception. Our enemy hates us, our enemy is the devil, he hates God but he cannot touch God so he tries to get to us and he gets to us primarily through deceiving us. It isn't so much that the attacks of Satan are always external, people from the outside coming to hurt us, the large portion of his damage to believers is in the mind. He is making suggestions trying to get us off course and one of these deceptions is that God is withholding something from you but this is inaccurate. God by his grace has given us everything we need. We have been given the tools necessary to walk out the godly life but what are we to do with these tools? Well it leads to the second P here, participation. We are to participate, 2nd Peter 1 3 continues, his divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. By his own glory and goodness, this is his grace towards us because of who he is for God so loved the world that he gave. Why did he give? Because of his love, by his own glory and grace he gives. What does he give? Well he gives us everything that we need but we have a part to play and that part is this, through our knowledge of him. The aim of our participation as believers in Christ is to grow and our knowledge of him. If the provision of his grace is the bedrock, if it's the foundation, then the next tier of development is our participation in this grace. Now grace does not remove personal responsibility, it establishes it. Our efforts flow out of grace or from grace. Our efforts do not flow towards grace, meaning that our participation does not add to the grace given. We do not receive more grace because we are participating grace given and because it has been given, participation means that we are receiving it. So many believers in Christ struggle, so many are stuck because we have not truly received the grace given by God. We have heard of Christ on the cross crucified, we have heard that he was resurrected. In some sense we believe this but it has not gone into our bones. It is not changing the way we live and so our participation is to constantly

develop an understanding and knowledge of who God is. Everything in our lives flows out of our knowledge of God. This is why we read the Bible, this is why we pray, this is why we worship, this is why we fast, this is why we commune with God is so that we can know God better. This knowledge of God is what will cause breakthrough, it is the building block. He is provided and we participate in what he has provided. And we see this here in Hosea, the Lord says, my people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge. A lack of knowledge because it was not given to them? No, because you have rejected knowledge. Knowledge of God is available to us and we have to participate in the reception of this knowledge. This is why we come together, this is why we have the word, this is why we pray. It is not simply that we can act like Christians, it's so that we can receive relationship with God. The aim of our participation is to know God. We do not need more grace given. We need to engage and receive the grace that has already been given. We are not operating at a deficit awaiting a spiritual upheaval. upgrade, we develop through our knowledge of Him. So we've got provision, we've got participation, and then we have the next P here, which is practice. First Peter, or second Peter rather, 1.5, for this very reason, make every effort. Make every effort. Practice is the revelation of the depth of our participation. We know God, and the more we know God, we begin to implement what we know. And Peter goes on to reveal what that looks like. For this reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness, to goodness knowledge, to knowledge self-control, and to self-control, perseverance, and to perseverance, godliness,

and to godliness, mutual affection, and to mutual affection, love. These are the qualities of our participation. This is the byproduct of our knowing God. See, we know God, and then we are sanctified. We are becoming like Christ. And this is us walking out our sanctification. We begin to implement what we know. This is well beyond abstract intention. This is specific action. Think of it like this. You go on a road trip. You plug in the address. That address pulls up a pin on your phone. You can see it in your car. You're heading in a direction. The road map is laid out for you. You have the route. The pin is your knowledge and relationship with God. That's where you're going. That's what the inevitable end for us all is, God with us. That's where we're headed. And how do we get there? Well, we stay on the road. We have to stay on this road. But what we have the option to do is veer off this road if we are not paying attention. I don't know about you, but I don't have a self-driving car. There are many times as an itinerant minister driving here and there that I wish that I did,

but I do not. And so I have to grab the steering wheel and I stay on that road. There are boundary markers for me. There is a line in the middle of the road and there is a line on my right shoulder. I am not allowed to cross those lines. I stay on the path. Your practices are like those boundary lines. As you're moving towards a knowledge of God, there are certain indicators that would tell you, hey, you're veering off the path. Stay on the path. You're implementing what you have learned of God. And as you implement those, those are called practices. You are practicing something and that practice reveals what you know of him. Years ago, I stepped out of my role here at the church and was in a year of transition. I have talked about this many times before. God wanted to show me something. He wanted to prove to me that he was my God, my father, my provider. And he had a way of doing that. And that way was to not let me earn or achieve for myself. He wanted me to sit and he wanted to provide for me. But that level of provision required great faith. It was difficult because everything in my natural mind screamed, hey, you need to figure this out.

Hey, you need to fix this. Hey, you need to get out there and work. But God kept putting it in my heart to wait, wait, wait. Well, every single month, I felt the elephant of financial needs sitting on my chest. But instead of just letting my anxiety run wild based on my current reality, I went to my knowledge of God. The scripture says he will supply all of our need according to his riches and glory by Christ Jesus. I can't tell you how many times I quoted that verse. That verse kept me towards my end goal of knowing God and being with God and being about God's business. That verse kept me within the boundary markers. My feeling wanted me to yank the wheel off into the ditch. But as I got closer to that boundary line, the scripture reminded me, and then I implemented it. I spoke it, I meditated on it, and it changed my disposition. Fear, anxiety subsided. Now I would go back to this well again and again and again and again as needed. But it kept me on the road. This is sanctification, this is becoming like Christ. But if you do not know God, you cannot implement. And so God has given, we participate in that reception. And then we put into practice what we are learning about God by allowing the words of God to refine us. And you can see this, goodness, knowledge,

self-control, perseverance, godliness, mutual affection, mutual affection leads to love. It starts with what is internal, personal to us, and it evolves, it moves to God to us, but then through us, mutual affection, love. We're gonna talk more about that next week. But this is our practice. Now, the more we practice, the more we progress. We are moving forward. Peter says this, for if you possess these qualities, in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. This is critical. Peter doesn't speak of sanctification, this becoming like Christ, in arrival terms. He speaks of it in a direction. It's a direction, it's not an arrival, meaning that there is a progress. We are becoming more like Christ. Now, this can be difficult for us, because often we feel and know we're supposed to be obedient, we're supposed to walk this out in perfection. This is the desire of the spirit that God has put in you to please God. This is why there's a tension within us. This is why we feel guilty. It's because we know something, we know there is a standard and a mark,

and we are not to live condemned. Satan, the thief, comes to steal from you by condemning you, putting you to shame, telling you that the work of God didn't really do anything. But Peter says here we progress, meaning that we walk and we keep walking. Philippians 1.6 says this, and I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. There is a day when your sanctification will be complete. That day will be when you see him in the clouds. He will appear and you will be like him, for you will see him as he is. The sanctification will turn into glorification, mind, body, spirit, the way God intended you to be. But that day is not yet. And in the meantime, we are meant to progress. We're meant to walk towards the Lord. Jesus said a righteous person stumbles and gets back up. There are some of you watching and you are broken down by shame and condemnation, but I say to you what Jesus would say to you. Get up, get up. It is not because of who you are and your strength, it is because of who he is. That is the concrete under our feet. He has provided. And so we participate by receiving that grace. Receive it, believe it. It takes faith because we don't deserve it.

And we know that, but it isn't about whether or not you deserve it. It's about him. All of this is built on him, which leads me to my last point, presence. Because of this, all of this is possible. His presence revealed here, his divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these, he has given us very great and precious promises so that through them, you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. What are these promises? Well, first and foremost, it's Jesus Christ to us. Come in the flesh, die on the cross to pay the full price for your sin. He was resurrected so that we could have eternal life. That is a promise from God. But it isn't just something God has done and something God will do. It's God's work in you now, today. It is his presence. Look at this, what Jesus says here in Luke 24, 49. And behold, I am sending the promise of my father upon you, but stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high. You are not alone.

We have been given power. You could call it lane assist. When we start to drift towards the boundary. The wheel turns a bit. It isn't just on you to stay on the path. You have been given power. Jesus says this in Acts 1.8. You'll receive power when? When the promised Holy Spirit has come upon you. And then you'll walk out this godly life. This is what it is to receive. God has given. We receive that gift. We put that gift into practice and we progress, but we don't do it alone because the Spirit of God has been given to you. It is not coming to you. He is in you. And it is our reliance upon his power that produces that strength. And so the last thought I leave with you is, are you living on self-reliance or on spirit reliance? This is an active participation. It is a practice. It takes governing your mind, your direction. You are aiming properly. This is what it is to break through, to live the life that God has called you to live. He has done it. He has bookended it.

He began it and he will fulfill it. But we have a part to play. We are not robots. We have a will. Use your will to aim at him. Will you bow your heads wherever you find yourselves? Dear Heavenly Father, thank you. Thank you for being the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. Thank you for your provision. May we participate. May we practice. You will progress us by your presence. Thank you for saving us, for working in us, for calling us by name, for writing our names in your book. You are faithful, Lord. Even when we are unfaithful, even when we stumble and fall, you still call us righteous because it's your work, not ours. And so we simply receive and we keep receiving day after day after day, this transformation that you have bestowed upon us. We, Lord, are not where we want to be, but we will end up where you have designed us to be because of your faithfulness. In that, we put our focus on. Thank you for the word sown as seed. Thank you for your faithful goodness to us. Thank you for your protection and your goodness to your people, to our city, to our police,

to our firemen, to our utility workers, the line workers. Thank you for being a present God. We love you. And it's in Jesus' name we pray. And everyone said, amen.
