♪♪ Good morning church. What a blessing it is to be with you here today. Opening God's word together. So that he talks to us this morning. But before we get started, I'd like to remind you guys, this is our last week where we get to pray and affirm our faith, so I want you guys to take a minute to go to our website and check out the elders that are candidates for our church, and so you'll have a slip on your bulletin, so if you guys can review that, answer a few questions, and tear it off and put it in our offering box, if you have any kind of feedback, whether positive or negative, this is a time of great joy for us as a church. Like we've mentioned before, Fellowship has a plurality of eldership that comprises of about 50 elders over the seven campuses, and today we actually had our first service on our new campus of North Little Rock, and we're just overjoyed for that today. We're celebrating God's goodness. So as we continue our series on the blessed life, today we look at a life truly blessed. It isn't necessarily fame or money, but the psalmist give us a clear picture of what this blessing looks like in our homes, in our work, and in every area of our lives. And let me tell you, church, that I desire to be like this man of Psalm 112, but if I'm honest with you guys, as I read this psalm, I see how much I fall short. And as we walk through this as a church, I'd just like to encourage you guys to be that blessed man or blessed woman and

walk alongside each other. And as we turn to Psalm 112 in our Bible, let's pray together. Heavenly Father, we come before you this morning, recognizing, Lord, that we need you, that when we look at different areas in our life, Lord, we realize that we are missing that fear that we need from you, Lord. That those other fears that are competing in our hearts, Lord, lead us to different ways. Allow us to grow this morning, Lord, in praise, understanding who you are and how worthy you are of praise. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen. This morning, we're going to read the whole passage, so if you guys would join me in standing and reading God's word together. Praise the Lord. Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in his commandments. His offspring will be mighty in the land. The generation of the upright will be blessed. Wealth and riches are in his house, and his righteousness endures forever. Like dawns in the darkness for the upright, he is gracious, merciful, and righteous. It is well with the man who deals generously and lends, who conducts his affairs with justice. For the righteous will never be moved, he will be remembered forever. He is not afraid of bad news, his heart is firm, trusting in the Lord. His heart is steady, he will not be afraid until he looks in triumph on his adversaries. He has distributed freely, he has given to the poor. His righteousness endures forever, his horn is exalted in honor. The wicked man sees it and is angry. He gnashes his teeth and melts away.

The desire of the wicked will perish. This is the word of God, you may be seated. Where does the blessing come from? Let me tell you that the blessing depends on one specific factor, and it's the relationship that one has with his creator. Someone may have financial success or pleasure, may have a lot of worldly things, and those things that some people may call a blessing actually are a curse, because it can be those very same things that would keep you away from God and not needing God. And it is my desire this morning that we can look at what a life that is truly blessed is, and that is our first point. The source of true blessing is the fear of the Lord. It's the fear of the Lord. In verse one it says, praise the Lord. The wicked is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in his commandment. Psalm 112 is a response to Psalm 111. And actually both are composed in a very beautiful structure. They're acronic, it's like with the Greek alphabet, Hebrew alphabet, acronyms, acrostic, none of us had it right. Acrostic with the Hebrew alphabet. He knew it in Spanish. And every line starts with a letter. Why does it begin with that phrase, praise? It means praise the Lord. And in Psalm 111, the psalmist is talking about everything that the Lord has done for his people. And Psalm 112 is the response to Psalm 111 of the great things and the obedience that comes through that because of the Lord. And it says that the blessed man is the man that fears the Lord. What type of fear are we talking about here? It's not a fear of where I'm scared and I run away.

That type of fear belongs to the unbeliever, the wicked, that is going to receive the judgment. But those that have trusted in the Lord, it's a different type of fear. It is a fear that is related to the love for God. It is a fear that I don't want to do anything that grieves the Father. That from there is where the true blessing comes from. But it gives us the direct application of that. That the delight in his commandments. We tend to be very poetic, very romantic when we talk about things about the Lord. God is the center of my life. Oh how I love God. Do you remember the words of Jesus? If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And the way we relate to the instructions of God for our lives, demonstrates if we really do have a fear of the Lord or not. Someone said it in this way. True obedience can only come from a pleasure in the commandments of God. How can we delight in the commandments? When I give my son an instruction. You think my son has the reaction of, oh wow, what a great commandment my father has given me. No, he has the opposite reaction. He's not letting me have any fun. What's wrong with putting this chain around my brother's neck and putting him on a tree to have a little bit of fun? He says, son, no, that's not the way. The problem is that he doesn't understand that these commandments are for his good and not for anyone else. When someone delights in the commandments, he knows that what the Lord has instructed us is not necessarily for my pleasure, but it's for my care and his glory. If God is all wise, if God is all love, why not would his commandments be a delight for my life? The delight will produce obedience. But the delight comes from a fear of the Lord.

This term of fear is very interesting in our lives. There's no one in here currently that is not experimenting some type of fear. Unfortunately, fear came after the fall. When we're fearful of certain things, it reflects on what we actually hold dear. Let me give you an example. If one of my biggest fears is to suffer financial stress, that fear will lead me to act in a certain way. Well, make me live in a way where I see that money may be the solution to all my problems. If one of my fears, I have a deep fear of falling into illness. Would lead me to live my life in a manner that I would not only just, I wouldn't only just treat my body as a temple of God, but also make it an idol of my life. The fears that are in our lives demonstrate the things that we hold dear. We all experience certain fears, but then there's one big fear that is, outweighs all the other unhealthy fears, and it's the fear of the Lord. When that fear is a reality in your life, it's going to be very evident. And we're going to see in the next, from verses 2 to 10, how a fear of the Lord is evident in our lives. The blessing is evident first in his household. Let's read verses 2 to 4. His offspring will be mighty in the land. The generation of the upright will be blessed. Wealth and riches are in his house, and his righteousness endures forever. Like dawns in the darkness for the upright, he is gracious, merciful, and righteous. One of the clear evidence that we're living under the fear of the Lord is how we raise our children. And the psalmist is telling us that the offspring of this person will be great, mighty. What does it mean, mighty? We can spend all day looking at different definitions of what one would say is mighty. But it's the ability to be able to do the things that he sets out to do.

And when we teach our children to live for the Lord, and by God's grace they give their lives to the Lord, they will be able to do the things that they set out to do in life. On the other hand, if they're not taught to fear the Lord over all other things, if your children fear what other people think, and instead of living for the Lord, you're going to be living for what other people think. And if our children don't understand that success is not a worldly success, that they don't have security in that, they're going to start living for those things. And that life is not a blessing. Living for temporal things is not a blessing. Doing what our flesh wants to do is not a blessing. Being a psalm is not an infallible rule. And what I mean by not being an infallible rule is that our children are being raised by imperfect parents. that we may even have the temptation to say, oh, I've done everything that I can do, then why is my son not following the Lord? It's not something that we can control. But on general, on a general rule, like Psalms and Proverbs, it gives us the evidence of what a life is that is lived in this manner. Today, we even have parents that are more fearful of their children than the Lord. That they have a fear that their parents, that they might think that their children don't think that they're the cool parents. Then you give everything that the kid wants. And then when the kid sees that his other friends have other things, then the parent gives them that too. But that creates children that think

that the world revolves around them. Y cuando ellos no tienen las cosas que, aunque les podamos dar. And when they have those things that we may be able to give. It's a good opportunity to tell our children that that's how life is. Life is not geared to ourselves and our desires. It's for Christ and his glory. What is the fear that's driving our lives? In verse three, it says, wealth and riches are in his house. But it's not to say that we all, like the psalm is promising that all of us are gonna be wealthy and rich. But for the most part, if we steward what God has given us in a way that honors him. There will be provision in the home. Have you guys thought, or had a thought that most of our bad financial decisions. That it comes from us not stewarding what God has given us in an unwise or unwise way. Be worried to give a false sense of yourself to other people. And then we live in a life now that we can't afford. And then we fall to the consequences of those bad decisions. Those that manage their resources in a way that honors God. Uses it to expand the kingdom of God. To enjoy the provision of God.

And as we see further on, to be able to be generous with the provision of God. And when this person lives in this way, that we know as wealth and riches come to their home, it doesn't enter in their hearts. Because the love for money is the root of all evil. And we see that this person manages these things as he knows that this belongs to the Lord. And these riches that come in his house are more than just material things. You receive this peace that only God can offer. The joy of the Lord. They have a household full of just godly life. The blessings are much more than those material things. And he says that his righteousness endures forever. And this phrase is gonna repeat itself in different ways throughout this psalm. I want you to, I quiero que te hagas esta pregunta a medida vamos por el psalmo. I'd like to, you ask yourself this question. as we go through this psalm together. ¿Cómo quieres ser recordado? How do you want to be remembered? Si hoy fuera tu último día, ¿qué recordaría la gente de ti? If this was your last day, what would they remember about you? ¿Cuán preocupado estabas por la casa que estuviera limpia? How worried were you about the house that was clean?

¿Cuánto trabajo hiciste y cuán trabajador eras? How much you worked and how much work you made? ¿Cómo queremos ser recordados? How do we want to be remembered? Dice que esta persona es clemente, compasiva. It says that this person is gracious and merciful. Y que trata las cosas con lo demás de una manera piadosa. And deals with other people in a way that is righteous. Por lo tanto, la bendición de Dios en la vida de esta persona no se limita solo a su casa. And so the blessing that comes to this person isn't just limited to his household. Sino en nuestro siguiente punto, que es en su trato con los demás. But also in this next point, that it is in his dealings with others. Mire versículos cinco y seis. Let's look at verse five and six. Bien le va al hombre que sea piada y presta. Arreglará sus asuntos con juicio. It is well with the man who deals generously and lends, who conducts his affairs with justice. Porque nunca será sacudido, para siempre será recordado el justo. For the righteous will never be moved and he will be remembered forever. La forma en que trata a los demás. The way you treat others. Demuestra un hombre que es verdaderamente bendecido. Demonstrates a man that is really, truly blessed.

Y me recuerda la imagen del Salmo uno que estudiamos hace unas semanas. It reminds me of the imagery in Psalm one that we studied a few weeks ago. Que cuando tú ves un árbol lleno de fruto. And when you see a tree full of fruit. Lo natural es que personas se beneficien de ese fruto. The natural thing is that people are blessed by that fruit. Y aquí dice que la forma en que usa lo que él ha recibido para bendecir a otros. And it says that the way that you receive these things that you've been blessed with to bless others. Es con compasión. Is with compassion. Y dice que presta. And that he lends. Entonces, hablemos un poquito de eso, del prestar. Let's talk a little bit about lending. Hay muchos principios para entender el prestar unos a otros. There's a lot of, there's a few principles to understand in how we lend. Y no es que anda prestando solo porque alguien le diga, dame prestado, dame prestado. It's not that we lend just because someone asks us for money. Sino que lo hace con sabiduría. But you do it with wisdom. Examinando la situación. Examining the situation. Si la situación es porque realmente esa persona experimentó una aflicción fuera de su control.

If the circumstances is that this person is suffering for something that is out of their circumstances or their control. Es una buena oportunidad para bendecir a alguien. It's a great opportunity to be able to bless someone. Pero a veces la ayuda que alguien necesita si está en necesidad porque no le gusta trabajar. But if the person is in need because he doesn't like to work. Probablemente prestarle no es la mejor forma de ayudarle a esa persona. Maybe lending him some money is not the right way to help him. Dice que el que no trabaja, que no coma. Says that the one that doesn't work doesn't eat. Tal vez la mejor ayuda es recordarle el versículo para que el hambre le ayude a trabajar. Maybe it's a good opportunity to remind him of that verse so that hunger reminds him to work. Pero dice que él no será sacudido. And it says that, Versículo seis. He will not be moved. ¿Qué tiene que ver tratar a los demás de esta manera con no ser movido? What does it mean treating those in that kind of way and relating that to never be moved? Es que es fácil ayudar a la gente that it is easy to help people cuando te sobra. When you have more. Cuando todo está fácil.

When everything is easy. Y gloria a Dios por esos momentos. Praise God for those moments. Pero que cuando las cosas también para ti están un poquito apretadas. But what if you're in a spot where it's a little bit tight. Cuando no te es tan conveniente compartir. Where it's not so easy to be able to lend. Me recuerda cuando estábamos con nuestro pan con leche que nos daban cuando estábamos niños. It reminds me of that time when we were kids they used to give me this bread and milk. Y el litro de leche solo ajustaba para una tacita para cada uno de nosotros. And that liter of milk would only be enough for each one of us to get a small cup of milk. No habían salido las Coca-Cola de cuatro litros. We didn't have those four liter cups that you see. Una cosa es que yo tengo un litro para mí y le eche a alguien más un poquito de leche del litro que yo tengo para mí. And one thing is that if I have a liter and I can give a little bit to someone from that liter. Otra cosa es que mi hermano me pidiera de la única. And another would be that my brother would ask me for milk if I only have that small cup. It's different. But the blessed man understands that his blessing doesn't come from what he can keep to himself, but comes from the infinite

source that is God. So then he can be generous whether he is in good circumstances of abundance or in tight circumstances. And the next point is we'll see a blessed man in the trials. In verses 7 and 9 speak of this. It says he is not afraid of bad news. His heart is firm, trusting in the Lord. His heart is steady. He will not be afraid until he looks in triumph on his adversaries. He has distributed freely. He has given to the poor. His righteousness endures forever. His horn is exalted in honor. What it's saying here is not that the blessed man is not going to have struggles and trials in his life, but that when those bad news or those bad things happen in his life, he's not going to be afraid. Not that circumstance is easy, not that because those circumstances are not, they don't hurt, but that his heart is firm, trusting in the Lord. We trust in the Lord when bad news knock on our doors. We trust in him when illness comes in our lives. We trust in him when we lose our jobs. We trust in him when we don't receive the news that we wanted to receive. And we trust in him because we know God is in control of all our circumstances. The life without fear is not an easy life, but it is a life trusting in him.

What does verse 8 say? He will not be afraid until he looks in triumph on his adversaries. What does it mean for us today? In this context, the people of Israel were on their journey towards the promised land, and so they were receiving a lot of enemies and attacks. But today our enemies are not flesh and blood, but our principalities and evil or spiritual powers. It is our own flesh, our own sin. It is the physical death that we're going to experience. It is the victory over sin that we're going to experience. Victory over sin, victory over death, and victory over Satan. And we can be confident and trust that the Lord is one day going to finish with the power of Satan and the power of death and the power of sin. One more thing we're going to experiment in this life, that when we want to please the Lord, it doesn't mean that everybody around us is going to be happy with us. La bendición es evidente cuando alguien es rechazado por el mundo. The blessing is evident when someone is rejected by the world. En el versículo 10 dice que lo verá el impío y se irritará, rechinará los dientes y se consumirá. El deseo de los impíos perecerá. The wicked man sees it and is angry. He gnashes his teeth and melts away. The desires of the wicked will perish. Lásimosamente hoy muchas veces el cristiano está tan preocupado por aquellos que no conocen a Cristo, caerle bien a aquellos que no conocen a Cristo. Unfortunately the believer today is more worried about having a good relationship with someone

that is, that don't know Christ. Pero mira lo que nos dice 2 Timoteo 3.12. But look at what 2 Timothy 3.12 says. En verdad todos los que quieren vivir piadosamente en Cristo Jesús serán perseguidos. But all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted. Iglesia, vivir para Cristo no pondrá en momentos donde personas van a estar molestos con nosotros. Church, living for God is going to put you in situations where someone is going to be upset with you. Tal vez alguien que dice, y por qué tú no tomas como yo tomo. Somebody that might say, why are you not drinking how I drink? Porque tú no vas a los lugares donde yo voy. Why are you not going to the places I go? O es que tú te crees muy santo, o te crees muy que caminas en las nubes. O you think you're holier than thou, or you're walking on clouds. Y no debe ser nuestra actitud que somos más que ellos. And our attitude shouldn't be that we're better than them. Sino que nuestro temor es más a nuestro creador, a nuestro salvador que a ellos. But that our fear is more towards our creator, our savior, than to them. La realidad es que el temor del Señor se manifiesta en un deleite en la palabra de Dios que nos lleva a obedecerle. That leads us to be able to have obedience towards it. As the worship team comes up, yo quiero animarte a examinar cómo estás viviendo en cada área de tu vida. I'd like to encourage you to take inventory of how you're living your life in every aspect of your life. ¿Estás viviendo para los temores momentáneos? Are you living for those momentary fears? ¿O estás viviendo en el temor del Señor? Or are you living in the fear of the Lord? Identifica las cosas que te están haciendo temer en tu vida.

Identify those things that are causing fear in your life. Traelas delante del Señor. Bring them to the Lord. Y dile al Señor que tú quieres confiar en Él. And tell the Lord that you want to trust in Him in these things. Quiero terminar con un verso de uno de mis himnos favoritos. I'd like to end with a lyric from one of my favorite hymns. Que dice esto. That says this. De paz inundada mi senda esté, o cúbrala un mar de aflicción. Cualquiera que sea mi suerte diré, estoy bien, tengo paz, gloria a Dios. When peace like a river attendeth my way, when sorrows see bellows roll, whatever my lot Thou hast taught me to say, it is well with my soul. Oremos. Let's pray. Padre, sabemos que solo en Ti podemos estar confiados. Lord, we know that only in You we can put our trust. Y reconocemos, Señor, que hemos dejado muchas veces estos temores controlar nuestra vida. And Lord, we'd like to confess that sometimes we've allowed these fears to control our lives. Señor, temores que no son necesariamente sanos. Fears, Lord, that are not necessarily healthy. Queremos hoy venir delante de Ti, Señor, y honrarte a Ti solamente. Lord, we'd like to come before You today and honor You, only You, God. Yo te pido que nos muestres las cosas que están detrás de nuestras acciones. Lord, I'd like, just show us the actions that are behind our motivations. Señor, esos motivos, Señor, incorrectos. Those wrong motivations. Señor, para que te los entreguemos a Ti. That we can give them to You. En el nombre de Jesús oramos.
