Across the World as it is in Heaven May 17th, 2026

Well, good morning, church. This is the day that the Lord has made and we will rejoice and be glad in it. I want to say good morning to those of you here in the room, to those of you joining us online, glad that we get to connect with you today virtually. Would you do me a favor? Would you just tell somebody around you or next to you, tell them, I'm glad you're here today. Would you tell them that? Tell them, I'm glad you're here today. Glad you're here today. Amen. I always like to do that and begin the message that way because you never know who needs to be encouraged by those words. Glad that you're here today. If I haven't met you yet, my name is Justin Billson, I'm one of the four teaching pastors here at Fellowship. We are one church in seven locations and over the past ministry year, we've been walking through our mission statement, which is making disciples who live by God's grace and for his glory at home and across the world. We've talked about his grace in the book of Galatians. We talked about his glory in the book of Isaiah. We just recently finished a sermon series on making disciples in the home and at home here locally where we live. Now we want to talk about what it means to engage globally, to make disciples across the world. I want to invite you to join me in God's word. Let's look at Psalm 67, Psalm 67 verse one through seven today. That's where we're going to be. Psalm 67 verse one through seven today. As we prepare to read God's word, before we do, I do want to acknowledge just a special

group this morning. I am always amazed at how God continues to send people to our church, to hear the truth of the gospel, to share with us and people that we get to love on. Maybe you've been paying attention, but over the past few weeks and months, we've had several groups of soldiers who've been coming from Camp Robinson. They're in training and Chaplain Johnson, who is with them and he's a member of our church here. He let me know that this is their last Sunday today and they're going to be going back to their home. If y'all feel comfortable, would you just stand? We just want to celebrate you and just pray for y'all. Would y'all stand if you don't mind? Amen. Thank y'all so much. Amen. Amen. Y'all keep standing. Thank y'all so much for your service. Church, would you just stretch a hand to them? Let's just pray over them, pray God's protection and covering. Father, thank you for these men and women who have dedicated their hearts, their lives to serve this country. Lord, I thank you for whatever reason that you've stirred their heart to be here at fellowship. Thank you that we've been able to pour into them, to invest in them, to teach God's word and Lord, as they go back to wherever home is, pray Lord, that we've been able to deposit seeds of the truth of the gospel. Thank you for their experiences here in Little Rock and at Camp Robinson and Lord, we pray safety over them. We pray that you would cover and protect them. Lord, in the quiet moments, in the still moments, when worry and fear and doubt washes over

them and Lord, in the midst of all that we see and experience in our world, things that they will have to face that we may never even see, Lord, I pray that you would be with them, that you would comfort them, that you would strengthen them, that you would place godly people around them to lift them, to encourage them. We pray for their families because we know that just as they send them away, Lord, they are feeling the weight of the sacrifice as well. So Lord, be with them, cover them, keep them in your care and protect them and thank you that we get to be a part of their journey, even if in just a small way. We love you and we praise you in Jesus' name, amen. Thank y'all so much for standing. We appreciate y'all. I bless you. All right, Psalm 67, hear the words of the psalmist. He says this, may God be gracious to us and bless us. Make his face to shine upon us, that your way may be known on earth, your saving power among all nations. Let the peoples praise you, O God, let all the peoples praise you. Let the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you judge the people. peoples with equity, and guide the nations upon earth. Let the peoples praise you, O God. Let all the peoples praise you. The earth has yielded its increase. God, our God, shall bless us. God shall bless us. Let all the ends of the earth fear him. It's the word of the Lord today. As we begin this three-part series, finishing up our teaching through our mission statement, we wanna begin today by talking about God's glorious purpose,

God's glorious purpose for the world. Next Sunday, we'll talk about his provision, and then the following Sunday, we'll talk about his plan, but today, we're gonna talk about God's glorious purpose for the world. Let's pray again over our time for the word. Father, thank you for the joy that we have to dive into your word. Your word is life and light, and so speak to us today through this passage. Lord, whether we're in the room or watching online, we thank you that you meet us right where we are, and so speak to us through this word. Change us, challenge us, convict us in the years that we need to grow, and we thank you that our lives are better because we've spent time in your word and in your presence. In Jesus' name, amen. Churches, I was reflecting this week on the divine call and commission of every believer to join in God's mission of making disciples, yes, here at home, but also across the world. My heart was again stirred, especially after reading the psalm before us. I found myself thinking about the how of global missions. Because again, if God's purpose, as we see there laid out in Psalm 64, 67, excuse me, is that his way would be known in the earth and that his saving power would be declared

among all peoples, if that is his purpose, if that is his design and desire, then I began to wonder, even Justin, how can I help in his mission? If you're like me, if you're wired like I am, when it comes to global missions, I tend to respond to messages or books or call to global missions to engage globally. I tend to respond as if to say to myself and God, I know what I'm supposed to do, I know what I need to do, I wanna go make disciples globally, but God, show me how. I tend to be one focused very much on the how because I'm a doer by nature as many of us are, I wanna know how. And while the how is important, I wanna be careful, church, that we do not lose sight of the why. Because I would argue that the why of global missions, the why of making disciples across the world matters just as much, if not more, than the how. So this morning, as we begin our sermon series, I wanna direct our attention to consider the why. And the why is actually laid out before us in the text here. And I know at first glance, we would not consider this psalm to be a missional passage. But if you were to reread and review the psalm through the lens of the divine call and commission of every believer to join in God's mission,

I believe you will see, as I did this week, that the psalmist is laying before the reader, you and I today, a prayer for the nations. This prayer begins there in verse one. Verse one, the words there, may God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face to shine upon us. I don't know if your mind went where mine did as I was reading that, but I began to think, where have I heard those words before? That sounds familiar. And then I remembered, oh, Numbers chapter six is where we hear that. As a matter of fact, if you were to look in Numbers chapter six, God tells Moses to encourage, to instruct Aaron that here is the priestly blessing you are to pray over my people. Lord, according to Numbers chapter six, spoke to Moses saying, speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, thus you shall bless the people of Israel. You shall say to them, the Lord bless you and keep you. Lord, make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace. So shall they put my name upon the people of Israel and I will bless them. That church is what God says to Moses to tell Aaron to pray over the people in Numbers chapter six. And I love how in many ways,

Psalm 67 is an echo of what we see in Numbers chapter six. But what I also love about this passage is that it seems as if the Psalmist is suggesting that the reason I can request these things or pray these things is because I'm not asking God to do something that he's not already done. As a matter of fact, the history of God's people and even our history. history, you and I today, our history is evidence that God has already been gracious to us. He has already blessed us in Christ with all spiritual blessings. He has already made his face to shine upon us, which simply means that he has favored us. The idea here is that God is already working in our lives. And I need to remind you today that God is at work in your life, but not only does he want to work in you, but church, he wants to work through you. He wants to work through you because he has a glorious purpose. We actually catch a glimpse of that glorious purpose in verse two, because in verse two, it says that your way may be known on earth, your saving power among all nations. That is God's desire for the world. The world that he loves, the world that he created, the world that he sent his son to die for, this is his desire for the world. According to the psalmist, I believe he is showing us today that God's purpose for the world

should also be our prayer for the world. That's not a fill in the blank, but I just want you to take that in for a moment. God's purpose for the world should also be our prayer for the world, which is that they will come to know him, that they would come to experience his saving grace. This is our prayer, and I need you to hear my heart, church, today, that prayer is important when it comes to global missions. As a matter of fact, prayer is always needed, and prayer is something we can all commit to. Regardless of the season of life we're in, regardless of what engaging in global missions looks like for us in this stage of our life, prayer is something we can all commit to. Prayer is always needed. Yes, going is important, and we thank God for those who go and want more to go. Giving is important, yes, because we cannot help support those who are on the field without the resources and the people who are going. We praise God for that, but don't forget about prayer, because prayer is something we can all commit to. So that's why, in light of that truth, I wanted us to consider two questions that frame the message today. The first question is this. When we look at the passage, Psalm 67, when we look here, it tells us that we need to pray it. It shows us a model of how to pray.

So the question I wanna ask and answer is this. What are the specific things? What specific prayer prompts does this psalm teach us to pray for? There's three in particular that I wanna show you before we get to practical application of how this works in our lives, but the first prayer prompt is this. I believe the text teaches us to pray that every nation, tribe, and tongue will hear and receive the truth of God's word, that every nation, tribe, and tongue will hear and receive the truth of God's word. Let's leave that up there for a moment if you wanna write that down. Again, this is our prayer, that every nation, tribe, and tongue will hear and receive the truth of God's word. Why? Because we understand through the experience of our own life journey that sinners are transformed by the grace of God through the power of the gospel, that the proclamation, the proclaiming of the good news of Jesus Christ is what changes the heart and the lives of men and women, boys and girls in church. I am glad that we live in a time where we have access to tools and resources and ministries that we can partner with

that are bringing the gospel to the far reaches of this nation and ultimately the world and to every language and tribe and tongue. Praise God that we as a local church were able to partner with the Seed Company and support translations so that four people groups, four indigenous people groups in South Asia can receive the gospel in their native language for the first time. Praise God that we're able to invest in the work there in India where the deaf population in India can receive and see the gospel translated in their language. Praise God for the ways that his word is reaching the unreached people of this world that you and I may never see this side of heaven. I celebrate this. We celebrate this, but here's the thing. As we celebrate, don't forget to keep praying because God is still working and we keep praying. And as we see and as we celebrate, we continue to pray. And as we see and we celebrate, we continue to pray because God is still working and prayer is something we are all committing to do. I pray that every nation, tribe, and tongue will see and experience this. Not only that second prayer prompt is that every nation, tribe, and tongue

will know and experience God's saving power. It's in the text that every nation, tribe, and tongue will know and experience God's saving power. As I reflected on that, I could not help but think about a mission trip a few years ago that I was blessed to go on to Ghana, West Africa. And if you know me and you know about my family, Ghana is a special place in my heart. It's home for the Bilson family. My father and my two aunts and my uncle on my father's side, they were all born and raised in Ghana, West Africa. And so it was cool to be able to go to Ghana, to the home of where the Bilsons, my family, is from. But what was most intriguing in that moment to me is to be able to go in Accra and the different regions in the Ghana area and to share. And I met a gentleman there who had a family. He had a son and a daughter, and he was sharing with our group about how he came to faith. Church, I'll never forget the story. He was sharing with us that his daughter was sick and she had a illness that the doctors could not figure out and no one could figure out what was wrong with her. And then one day a traveling preacher came into town and he came through the village and he was sharing the good news of the gospel. And he told this man, he said, if you pray to God to heal your daughter, I believe he will heal her.

And if he does, then you need to follow him. That man kind of brushed the preacher off, but then he thought about it and he told us he thought about it again. And after processing through what the preacher said, he got down on his knees and said, I am a Muslim, but God, I call on you. And if you are real and you can heal my daughter, I will follow you. The man told us that he prayed and God did exactly as he asked and God healed his daughter. And since that time years ago, but since that time he has been following God. And I celebrate that story, I celebrated with him in that moment that he was able to physically see God's power work in and through the life of his own child. But in that moment before I left, I prayed for him that he would not just be able to see God's power, but that he would continue to grow in knowing God's power through relationship with God. Because at the end of the day, church, yes, we want people around the world to see God's power, but we also want them to know him in relationship. Because God says, yes, I show you my power. I show it to you in creation, through miracles, through signs, through so many different ways, big and small, but ultimately my desire is to know you and that you would know me in relationship. So our prayer is just that. Lord, let them, let the people of the world know you

and experience your saving power. And the last prayer prompt is this, pray, that every nation, tribe and tongue will worship him alone and walk in obedience to his spirit. They will worship him alone and walk in obedience to his spirit. A few months ago, if you were here around the church, we had what we call the Global Missions Weekend and several of our international partners from Ghana and Thailand and Dubai and India and other places and Italy as well were here on site for an amazing night. And we got to try different cuisines and eat a little bit of taste from different countries. And I don't know if you tried, I think it was from Thailand, that sticky rice and that mango, God made that. I'm just saying, I don't know if you tried it. If you didn't, you missed out. God made that, that was good, yes. And so the beautiful thing about that weekend for me was to be able, I was in the chapel actually that Sunday and I was able with alongside Bill Parkinson, one of our founding teaching pastors, I was able to meet with one of our partners in India. Stephen George is his name and Bill and I interviewed Stephen and he was sharing what God is doing there in India through Asian Christian Academy. And I'll never forget, he said something profound. He said, the challenge in our culture with sharing the gospel to those in India is that it is a polytheistic culture.

They believe in multiple gods. And so he said that the issue is not that they don't want to worship God. They will worship God, but they treat God as if he's another God on the list of all the other gods. They said the challenge is for them to really see and understand and the spirit has to draw their heart to the truth to know that he is the only God that is worthy of my worship and my faithful obedience. And so at the end of the day, that is why our prayer specifically is, Lord, we don't want them to just worship you. We want them to worship you alone because it's not God and or God. or something else, no, we want them to worship you as we all do to worship every nation, tribe, and tongue, to worship you alone. And we pray that your spirit would draw men and women to yourself, to relationship with you and faithful obedience. Church, these are the prayer prompts that I see in the text, reminding us to pray because prayer is important. It's something we can all commit to. It's something we can all do, regardless of the season of our life. So now that we consider that, here's some practical application that I wanna give us before we leave today. Now that we know what the text is challenging us to pray,

here's the question I want us to answer before we leave. In what ways is God challenging me? Let's make it personal. In what ways is God challenging me to make disciples and engage globally through prayer in this season of my life? In what ways is God challenging me? Again, I know we're all in different stages of life in the room, but what ways is God challenging you specifically at this stage of your life to engage globally and make disciples through prayer? There's a few different ways that I wanna show you. I know you would have to answer that specifically for your life, but a few ways that I wanna give that I believe all of us can practice. First one is very simple, and we've been talking about it already, but I wanna remind us that we should commit to pray, write this down if you're taking notes, pray regularly for the global ministry partners of Fellowship Bible Church. Pray regularly for the global ministry partners of Fellowship Bible Church. Now, as I say that, some of you may already be doing that, and praise God for that. Some of you may say, well, Justin, I'm not doing that at all, and I would love to start, or maybe you would say, I have been doing it, but not consistently, and I need to get back to doing that.

Here's the thing, regardless of where you are on that list of what I just gave, the reality is all of us are called to commit to prayer. And I promise you, if you were to ask any one of our partners, they would tell you they value so much your prayers. As a matter of fact, if you would say, well, I wanna know who our partners are, I don't know all of them, we have so many, how do I know who they are? Listen, we've got you covered. Also challenge you to consider what would it look like for maybe your group of friends, or your family, or your small group, your D group, to consider adopting or committing to pray for a specific missions partner, maybe once a month or once a quarter, even adopting them for the year to say, hey, we're praying for you all year long, because prayer is something we can all commit to do. As a matter of fact, one of the members of our church,

Ingram, he attends in the chapel, and he shared his story with us about how God reignited a passion in him, even in his older years, to want to continue to invest in the missions and the ministry of making disciples across the world. He shared a brief snippet of his story with us, and so we want you to watch this, and then I'll come back and finish the message, but let's watch this together. Good morning, Ingram, how are you doing? I'm doing great, good to see you. Louis and I usually meet at the end of his day, which is the beginning of our day because of the time change. I'm taking notes as Louis is talking to me about what happened this past month, what are the plans going forward, what is your family need, and what can I communicate to the church? Each time, we'll talk about prayer needs. I know Louis, and I know his wife, and I know the children, and I know what their mission is. As soon as we're finished, I transcribe that, send it to Rick at missions, so that the team itself can know what the Kobos situation is like. So, I brought you into the sunroom this morning so you could see where our Global Missions pastor, Rick, sat when he talked to me about serving on Global Missions.

The Great Commission says go, and I thought that my life was ended because I couldn't go anymore. My spine is in such bad shape, and my heart has failed. So, my dreams of being a pastor and my dreams of being on a mission field myself, even for a short term, I had to kind of put that back. It's not realistic. But the goal is to serve on a mission field. The commission is to all of us to do it and to then find where we fit. I came from responsible jobs with exciting things that happened all around, and now I find that I'm kind of a fingernail in the body of Christ. But the fingernail still has a task. I thought that I would stay in this room forever and die in this room. I'm now alive in fellowship and in this world because of that short hour that I had with Rick here. I encourage anybody to think about what your particular mission is and then to act on it. Then I speak again to those folks that are about my age. You and I cannot do what we used to do, but there are still many things we can do. One thing else that we can do is we can smile because we love Jesus and we want to share the love of Jesus with this world. Amen. I love that story. The thing that I love most about it is Ingram reminded us, and I got a chance to talk to him outside in the plaza in between services, is that he reminds us that we may not all be able to do the same thing, and maybe we can't do the things that we used to do, but we all can do something because God is inviting us to join him in his mission of making disciples across the world. That's so important. Let me give you a few more things.

The second principle, the second practical insight that I believe we can all do together is number two, identify informational resources that show you what to pray for. Identify informational resources that show you what to pray for. I don't know if you're like me, but there are times where I find myself wondering, especially if I'm praying for a specific country or region, I don't know enough about the region. Lord, what do I pray for? How do I pray specifically? I don't want to just pray a blanket prayer, but I really don't know what's going on in that region. I want you to know there are trusted resources that we would recommend that can provide you with the information on the countries that we're praying for and to help us know what's going on in those parts of the world. As a matter of fact, we've got a graphic I want to show you, graphic on the screen, we'll put it on the screen. There are three resources. The first one, if you know anything about Operation World, they offer great resources. This book, it's a pretty thick book, but they also have an app. If you want to add that to your phone, your mobile device, you can do that. But this book is a great resource because it gives you the list of all of the countries and how to be praying specifically for that part of the world. The book, Pray for the World, is a newer version, more a condensed version of the Operation World, so that's a great resource as well. The one I'm excited about, the one in the middle window on the world, as you know, my wife and I are in the season. We have small children, a 10-year-old and a four-year-old. She's almost five. She keeps reminding us of that every day. But the beautiful thing about how we're choosing to engage our children in global missions and global work, one of the ways is by using this resource. Our son, he's one of those persons, his classic phrase is, did you know?

Dad, did you know? Mom, did you know? He loves giving us new facts every day. I was researching and talking to our missions team, saying, I've got to find a resource for families that they can use or grandparents can use with their grandkids. I found this and had our team look at it, and they said, man, this is a great resource. I knew that this was the right book for us, because when I flipped open to the page, it was a page on China, and it had a fact box, and the title of the box said, did you know? I said, this is perfect. This is right for Harper. He's going to love this. At the end of the day, this is great resources, great informational resources to give us knowledge on what specifically we need to be praying for. I would encourage you to check out any of those resources. Number three, and this is important. Number three, invite someone else to join in with you. Invite someone else. What do you mean, Justin? Invite someone else to join in with you. One of the things that I think we tend to hear a lot in Christian circles, which is good and it's important, is this principle of having an accountability partner. Having someone in your life who loves you, who challenges you, who can correct you in a godly manner if needed to say, hey, brother, I love you. I want to hold you accountable to the scriptures. That's so important and so life-giving and needed. One thing that I don't hear a lot of sometimes is that we don't talk enough about having prayer partners. Now, sometimes the accountability partner can be a prayer partner, and praise God for that. But I want to make sure that we remember too that having someone in our life who is not just holding us

Accountable to make sure that we're walking according to the scripture But also someone who is holding us accountable and we for them as well to say, how are you growing in your prayer life? You spending time in God's Word you spending time in prayer and even to ask each other the question Are your prayers only inward focused? Because if you're like me, we're all guilty of it. Let's be honest It's very easy to pray inward focus prayers praying about our life our family what's going on in our world But to challenge one another to say hey How are we praying for what God is doing across the world with people that we may never see or meet this side of heaven? Inviting someone in that journey because maybe if you're honest you would say Justin prayer is a struggle for me It's not a lack of desire it's not a lack of want to but prayer is a struggle for me and I would benefit from having a partner and accountability partner in prayer Someone that I can pray with and pray together and challenge me as I can for them So that's those three there's one more that I want to give you It's one more that I want to give you ready for this. It's gonna be real deep. It's gonna be real real theologically astute Really deep ready number four find fun ways That was a joke find fun ways Some of y'all like that's I thought he was gonna say something deep and theologically astute. No find fun ways To engage in the culture of the country you're praying for Find fun ways to engage in the culture of the country you're praying for Here's the thing. I'm convinced of the beauty of this call to make disciples and engage globally is not absent of fun Some of us when we think about engaging globally, yes, it is serious and it is important We do take the weight of this call seriously, but don't miss opportunities to have fun and engage in the culture of the country you're praying for one of the ideas that that I have been thinking about I'm praying over and was actually gonna talk to Talk talk to my wife about because I think this would be a great idea for our family and maybe even for your family to consider Is one of the things in Bilson household? We want to do during this series is we want to cook a meal from the country that we're praying for

Because it allows us not only to learn about that country, but it prompts us to pray for that country Think about that what would it look like for you to actually go research or go to a different food market in the city and to strategically intentionally look up resources or look up recipes rather from the country that you're praying for and Find meals that you can cook from that country. I hear some of you saying Justin that's great idea, but I cannot cook at all Here's a beautiful thing. Nobody will know if you order it from a restaurant Nobody's gonna know Matter of fact, you can order from a restaurant have it in the house put it in a bowl. And and there you go Praise God, right? So at the end of the day whether you cook it or whether you order it the the point is how am I? engaging in a fun and a meaningful way by praying for the culture of The food that I'm eating as a matter of fact, can I even challenge you to consider this? How many times do we eat? Cuisines that are different from ours are different from the culture that we are part of and maybe forget to even consider praying For the culture of the cuisine that we're eating To think about that Lord I thank you for the food that you provided and Lord bless those who are part of this region and culture that don't know you Again, that's a fun way to engage in this opportunity. I don't know what that looks like for you. Maybe that's one example Maybe you can find another example, but the point is how are we intentionally engaging and what God wants to do at home here at home? And across the world and we do that through prayer So here's how I want to end Because today we're talking about prayer and so I want to leave space before we end the message to do just that So I want to pray from God's Word I'm gonna read some verses of Scripture for us and then there's gonna be a prompt on the screen that I want us to pray together It's gonna read a verse of Scripture a few verses of Scripture and then we'll save this prompt. That'll be on the screen together First prayer prompt is this from Ephesians chapter 1 verse 13 Word of the Lord says in him you also When you heard the word of truth the gospel of your salvation and believed in him were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit

Let's pray this together. We pray that every nation tribe and tongue will hear and receive the truth of your word Titus chapter 2 says this for the grace of God has appeared bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works. Let's pray this together. We pray that every nation, tribe, and tongue will know and experience your saving power. Here's the last one. Revelation 15 and four. Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship you, for your righteous acts have been revealed. Let's pray this prayer. We pray that every nation, tribe, and tongue will worship you alone and walk in obedience to your spirit. Our Father and our God, we thank you for the reminder today that you have called us to be people who are actively a part of your mission, both here at home and across the world.

You've invited us into a glorious mission with a glorious purpose, a grand mission to see disciples made across this world. And Father, it begins and continues and requires and calls for us to pray. Lord, thank you that we get to be a part of what you're doing across this world. We get to be a part of investing in the lives of men and women, boys and girls, who we will not see, may never meet until we get to heaven. But thank you that we get to be a part of a global move. Father, our prayer, as we pray, not only for every nation, but this nation as well, for all nations, for all people, all tribes and tongue, that the world will know you, not just see your power, but know you in relationship, draw deeper to you, that they will know and experience your saving power, your grace extended through salvation in Jesus Christ. And that they would worship you alone, that you would be the one true God in their lives, not God and, but God alone, because you alone are worthy of our worship. Father, that we would walk, all disciples across this world would walk according to the power of your spirit. We love you, Lord, and we thank you that you've invited us to this call. And we're gonna commit to pray. And we thank you for the ways that you're working in and through us,

that we may not all be able to do the same thing. We may not be able to do what we used to do, but thank you that when it comes to engaging globally, you've all called us to do something.
