“A Collision-Free Life is a Glory-Free Life”

Amen, amen. Who's excited to be in church this weekend, Faith Promise? Come on. Man, I want to welcome you to Faith Promise. Welcome home, welcome to church. Listen, I pray that you are ready to be more spiritually energized and equipped than you've ever been your whole life. I know it's a big statement, more ready to be equipped and energized, spiritually than you ever have been before. If you're not there right now, take a moment and get there, okay, because it's coming. Hey, I want to welcome, if you're live at a campus, if you're watching live or later online, Wynn Community Locations or God Behind Bars, and God Behind Bars, there's a lot of ways where you're gonna lead the way today, so we are honored that you are with us. Now, before we jump into God's Word, I'm so excited to get into God's Word, so we're gonna jump right in here in just a moment, but can I ask you a question first? Do you or someone you love need freedom? Do you or someone you love need healing? Do you or someone you love need salvation? Is there a place in your life for someone you love, someone you know, their life, where it seems like there's no hope,

it seems like there's no solution, it seems like there's no saving? Can I tell you with all the integrity and all the belief that I can muster is you're gonna find it today. Today, you will get clear direction on the hope, the solution, the salvation, the deliverance for any part of your story or the story of those around you because listen, whether you believe it or not, in this moment, I believe you're gonna believe it by the end of our time together, there is so much more of God's glory in and for your story and the stories of those around us, more glory than we could ever have imagined. God's gonna speak clearly to us today. We're gonna have action steps today. Could we just take a moment and pray and prepare our hearts for all that God has. God, we love you so much and we come into your house and we're gonna read your word and we wanna hear from you. Heaven, we wanna hear from heaven. God, whatever you have to say today, we're gonna obey. Whatever you have to say today, we're gonna obey. We're coming into your presence to be changed by you. Holy Spirit, we're surrendered, we're humbled and we're ready. God, we love you. It's in your name we gather and your name we pray. In all God's people said, amen, amen.

Hey, if you have your Bible and I hope you do, go ahead and go to, sorry, Mark chapter five, Mark chapter five. If you have your paper Bible, go there. If you have a cell phone, go there. Mark chapter five, Mark chapter five. Now, while you're getting there, just let me remind you we're in a series right now called Your Story, His Glory. And we're looking at stories throughout the Bible and our church that shine God's glory, show God's glory so brightly that I'm telling you the people around heaven, hell, everything has to notice the glory of our God. And I just wanna encourage you, speak it over. Your life should be a story of God's glory. I just wanna prophesy it over you right now. Your story will be a story of God's glory. So we're gonna look at one of my favorite glory stories, if you will, today in Mark chapter five. This is one of my favorite ones. I need you to buckle up and I wanna make sure that there's plenty of time at the end for us to be equipped to go out and win our world. So I'm gonna need you to listen fast, okay? I need you to listen fast, listen ready. Take notes on what God has for you, but I just need to know that you're ready. If you're ready, say, I'm ready. Come on, a little bit more.

I wanna hear all the campuses. If you're ready, say, I'm ready. Oh yeah, oh man, hell's shaking today, baby. Okay, Mark chapter five, verse one. It says, they went across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes. When Jesus got out of the boat, a man with an impure spirit came from the tombs to meet him. Now let me stop right there and just give you a little context. Jesus is about to blow our minds in the first two verses. See, in Mark chapter four, which is the chapter before Mark chapter five, you don't have to be a theologian, you just have to count, okay? At the end of Mark chapter four, Jesus and the disciples go on a boat and they go across to this area. And there's a huge storm that comes up, a storm that's so crazy, they think they're all gonna die. And these guys are fishermen. It's not like me out there. These guys are like true fishermen. They wake Jesus up like, Jesus, if you don't help us, we're gonna die. And Jesus wakes up and he calms the wind and the waves. And that's amazing, but that's not what I want us to see. What I want us to see is, Jesus said, we're going over here.

And after Jesus deals with this man, they leave right away. Well, why do I want us to know that? That Jesus crossed, Jesus had his disciples cross, risked their lives for one man. When we talk about. Not knowing our one. We talk about going after one. It may not seem like a big deal to you, but it's a big deal to Jesus. Jesus willing to put himself and his disciples in harm's way for one person. How many times do we think, I don't know if it's worth it? Students, when you're at school, when you see that person in the lunchroom and you know the Holy Spirit is telling you, go sit with them, go love them, go pray for them, go ask them a question, and you're like, I don't know if it's worth it. Adults at work or at Kroger, wherever it might be, and you're like, oh, it might be awkward, I'm not sure what's gonna happen. I just want us to see that Jesus lives differently. That Jesus thought it was worth risking the lives of my disciples to go after one man. I pray that hits us. In verse three, he keeps on going and says, this man, the man with the impure spirit,

lived among the tombs and no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain, for he had often been chained hand and foot, but he had torn the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him. Day and night, among the tombs and in the hills, he would cry out and he would cut himself. Now, I don't know if when you read the Bible, you stop and think about it. This guy is in a devastating situation. He lives among the tombs. Listen, he's lived in such a way where the people of the town, they would chain him up hand and foot and throw him. If I asked some of you guys to walk across a graveyard at night, you'd be like, no, thank you, no way. Listen, he lived among the tombs. I don't know what the HOA is like among the tombs, but it's not great. I'm gonna go ahead and throw it out there. He has a demon possession. This guy's possessed by the devil. Now, can I just tell you something? I don't know if you believe that still happens. I do. I can't see anywhere in the Bible where the demons and the devil call truce. I can't see anywhere where they said,

hey, we're just gonna, and just because you ignore it doesn't mean it's not happening. Does that make sense? And so this is going on, this is not a parable. Sometimes Jesus tells parables and sometimes there's history written. This is history written. And listen, this is a big deal. This guy made his home among the tombs. He would cry out at night. He would weep at night. He's alone, he's scared. He's alone with the demonic. He would cut himself. Hey, do we ignore, not just the potency of what's going on in Scripture, do we ignore people's posts and only think about the politics and not the pain? Do we ignore people's pain in our life because it's too messy? We're not sure that we want to get involved. Can I just ask you right there where you're at? How do you deal with other people's pain? We see how the people in this town, this region of the Gerasenes did, but do we ignore it? Can I just be super transparent? Are we annoyed by it? Jesus was willing to face death for one man's pain.

He didn't go across and face that storm to talk to a king. He faced that storm and went across to talk to a demon-possessed man who was in pain. I pray that today we become more like Jesus in that. In verse six, this is one of my favorite passages of Scripture. It says, when he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him. Now again, I hope you read the Bible with some imagination. Imagine you step off a boat and a demon-possessed man, potentially naked, at the very least in undies, is running at you, okay? That's what these guys just faced the storm for. He runs, not only does he run and fall at Jesus' feet, he shouts at the top of his voice, everything he's got, he's yelling, what do you want with me, Jesus, son of the most high God, in God's name, don't torture me. That is the welcome they get after surviving the storm at night. And can I just tell you something, I had this thought when I was reading this. The devil is aggressive. The devil confronts. And it's really hard if you were to look at me and say that the church is as aggressive as the devil. It'd be hard for you to look at me and say that Christians are as forceful,

that Christians are as loud, that Christians, and maybe those words, you don't like those words, maybe like aggressive and loud, like you don't like those things. But listen, I would tell you that it seems like the devil's more passionate than the church. And I'm not telling you to tear anybody down, but I am telling you to stop wondering and whispering about the truth of the saving grace of Jesus and start speaking it in love. And I'm not asked you to post about it. I'm telling you to find people with it. Does that make sense? Hey post after you see somebody set free just post his testimonies post about his glory And many of us don't stand up when you know today I pray the Holy Spirit opens your eyes to the demonic oppression at your schools at your workplaces when you're around And a lot of us we don't step up and step in because we're not sure what to say We're not sure that we'll have the answers or We don't really like confrontation. Can I tell you there are some times where it doesn't matter if you don't like confrontation If somebody's breaking in our house at night and I tell Rachel babe, I'm not really into confrontation She said well, you're about to have some confrontation in here. That's worse than out there big boy going out there We've all been a moment We've all been a situation where we felt something rise up in us that was so passionate There's so it was so aggressive. It was so forthright. They didn't matter what our disposition was our personality makeup was we went after it And listen people that are far from God in bondage to the demonic we should go after we should ask questions We should pray we should be broken and if I could just tell you I love you so much But if you're not feeling any pushback any aggression from the enemy then he doesn't see you as a threat and I think that's a problem, too Listen the second that demon as second Jesus foot stepped on the region of the garrison that demon took off And you know, he tried he tried the intimidation tactic that the devil tries today

Oh, you're you're a you're a hater. You're you're a bigot. You're you're you don't love people He tried that hold that whole. Ah, yeah, I don't ask again. He he picked the wrong guy He picked the wrong guy trying to run that on and I pray when the devil tries it on you He picked the wrong person. I pray we're a church that has collisions. I Pray we're a church that rides out to meet the enemy in what he's doing in our neighborhoods Can I challenge this week as we live to Easter? Why don't you walk around your neighborhood and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you what's going on? I've asked him to reveal to you the addiction of pornography Ask him to reveal to you the the alcohol abuse ask him to reveal to you the sexual or physical or verbal Abuses going on and you start praying and you start ask the Lord you start weeping walking around your neighborhood Asking the Lord for freedom. I want us to ride out and maybe you're thinking Zach gosh I don't know that I want to live a life of collision. You have a choice You can live a collision free life But you will also live a glory free life. I really do believe that whenever we come into collision with the enemy It sparks the glory of the Lord in our story And that's what we're supposed to be known for known by It keeps on going in Mark chapter 8 our chart mark chapter 5 verse 8 and it's Jesus says For Jesus said to him come out of him talking to the impure spirit Verse 9 then Jesus said to him what's your name again talking to the the demon and he said my name is Legion he replied for we are many and he begged Jesus again and again not to send him out of The area now now listen just for context the the a Roman Legion. He says my name is Legion a Roman Legion was it roughly about 6,000 soldiers Can you imagine that level of oppression You know, well that stuff doesn't happen anymore today. You think that somebody's fine up until they kill themselves You think they're fine up until they OD You think they're fine up until they send their family to financial ruin. You think they just decide that you think they just choose that I Don't think so. That's not what God's designed him for The enemy is still dragging God's people Clawing into the darkness and listen, I just want you to know something Maybe a lot of us are in a place where we're like you don't maybe you don't feel

Free enough to help people live in freedom. This guy had a legion of demons in him 6,000 demons that's a big deal But can I tell you something that we see in his life? That's true in ours that the size of your pain can become the size of God's glory in your story We've seen it over you see it here in just a minute The size of your pain can be the come the size of God's glory in your story That's what we see in this man's life. It keeps on going in verse 14 Because Jesus sends that that legion of demons out it goes into some pigs kills the pigs and it says those team the pigs ran off and reported this in the town and the Countryside and the people went out to see what had happened and Jesus set this guy free Verse 15 when they came to Jesus they saw a man The man sitting, who was possessed by a legion of demons, sitting there, dressed and in his right mind, they were afraid. And those who had seen it told the people what had happened. This is awesome. This is crazy. This is deliverance. This is wild. Told them about the pigs as well, verse 17. And then the people began to plead with Jesus to leave their region. Plead with Jesus to leave their region. Jesus did something that they thought was impossible. Why would they ask him to leave? Well, it says right there in the passage, they were scared of him. Why were they scared of him? They were scared because they couldn't control the demon-possessed man,

so there was no way they could control Jesus. And you might be sitting there thinking, what a bunch of heathens. They're gonna send Jesus away because they can't control him? Let's throw a roll real quick. Because if you're unwilling to give Jesus control in your finances, or in the words that you say, or in the stuff that you watch, or in your relationships, then you might be sending Jesus away in different regions of your life. Listen, he gets complete control. That's hard, isn't it? But he's calling for complete control. But that's where I usually go, but as I was reading this passage, I was in my office reading and praying to ask the Lord, and I got a revelation about this passage I've never seen. I believe another reason, and this one might be even more just pointed for us today. I believe another reason they sent him away is because they were ashamed at what they had done. They looked at that man. They looked at that man who was a human being, a child of God, and they had treated him like a dog. Somebody that they had chained, Jesus did set free. Somebody they wanted to kill, Jesus gave life. Somebody they abused, Jesus ministered to. And instead of looking at Jesus and saying, we're so sorry, we're gonna live different, we're gonna love people,

they chose to stand on their shame, guilt, and disappointment and ask Jesus to leave instead. Today, the Holy Spirit has spoken to you, at least one person you're supposed to go after. And I bet you for a lot of us, it's somebody that we haven't lived wholly in front of. Are you gonna send Jesus away by saying, I'm ashamed? Please, please, please don't send Jesus away because you want control. Don't send Jesus away because the devil tries to bring shame. Romans 8, one, there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Please don't send him away. Please don't send him away. I wanna take a moment and see what happens when we decide not to send Jesus away. There's more of God's glory in and for our stories than we could ever imagine. Let's take a moment and meet an amazing couple from our Bristol campus. My name is Misty Arnold and this is my husband. I'm Joshua Arnold and this is our story. So when DCS took our kids, we were both addicted to meth. We were hoping that it would, you know, you lose your kids, you would think that you would go get better, but it actually made us worse. You know, we felt like our reason was just, we didn't feel like living our lives and we just, we didn't feel like living anymore.

We didn't feel like trying anymore. The hardest thing I've ever said out loud was that I love the drugs more than my kids. And it wasn't that I truly did, because inside, like, there's no greater joy than being a father. Without them there to keep us stable, we spiraled. It was six months from then that I was in prison. God knew that I needed to be stripped out completely. I've had believed in God since I was a little girl, but I felt distant from him because I was ashamed. I was very ashamed of everything. And I still kind of spiraled out until he, you know, I went to Faith Promise one day. I saw the church after I had been in a sober living house. And a friend of mine told me about this church and we came here. And that one sermon really opened my eyes back that God still loved me. You know, that God wasn't away from me just because I was sinning, that he was still with me. I literally, I sat in my prison cell or jail cell at that time. And that's the first time that I'd prayed in a long time. And it was, it was for her. I was so hurt that I dragged her down with me. And I prayed, please, please protect her because I'm not there to do it. And it was a very, it was a humbling moment. I was going to GBB, or God Behind Bars, to get out of my cell, and I heard a message

about, you know, the prison that, like, we put ourselves in, but you're not having to do this time alone. That God, you know, He hasn't left you, He's there with you. And at that time, I was, I was salty, I was mad, and I blamed everybody but me. And my father passed away while I was incarcerated, and me and him had kind of a, not really a bad ending, but it wasn't a good one. Like, I didn't get to tell him bye, I didn't get to tell him I loved him, none of that, and I'd got some, I got some fit and all, and I'd OD'd on it. And losing dad, ODing, literally dying, I just cried out to God, you know, if this is real, if you're real, like, I can't do this no more. I'm sick and tired of being, you know, a failure, being a bad husband, a bad father, you know, take this from me. You know, and this whole time I thought God had something to prove to me, and it turns out I had something to prove to Him. I went, I laid down on my bunk, dope sick, and when I woke, when my eyes opened, nothing, no dope sick, no feeling, just like a warning, you know, that I can do it, but you've got to let me, you know, it's got to be more than just desire and long. And from that moment on, you know, I still fail every day, but I try my best to, every breath I breathe, I give Him praise that He took that from me. So the way we reconnected, he was at this place called the domiciliary. I went to see him, and then we just started talking again, and we both started talking about God. And we, I told him about Faith Promise, and the church that I was attending, and that I wanted him to go. And he would come see, you know, when he got visits, I'd go pick him up, and he'd spend the weekend with me, and he'd go back. But one Sunday, he went to church, and when, I'll never forget, because when we walked in, and he saw Pastor Zach on the screen, he was like, that's, that's the preacher that I've been watching, and God behind bars. And it just, it was amazing, because God had brought us to the same church when we weren't even speaking to each other. Once we started doing, you know, or living for God, how fast everything came back into our lives. Just, he was, it was amazing when you give your life to God, and you trust in Him, and all the pain of addiction was gone. Now our sons were back in our lives, and then we had a little girl, and you know, now we have, you know, best of both worlds, two sons and a little girl, and a home, and a good church. And it's just amazing what God can do. When you look at someone like me, most people don't give me the time of day, and especially in professional settings, I guess you would say. And Pastor Chris, which is our campus pastor, he never shot from me. Pastor Zach, I mean, he hugged me,

he told me he loved me at men's conference, and nobody's ever paid attention to I'm covered in tattoos, or that I have a backstory. You know, they've been so supporting. But to see, especially to serve with my wife, to know where we was, literally homeless, sleeping under a tractor and trailer, like in the freezing cold, to how addiction went. I laid in a prison cell once praying for everything that I have now. And then to see it manifest in real life, to see my children with their hands in the air praising God, or to see my wife praising God, it's the best feeling in the world. I think that God uses the broken, and the most broken people, so that no matter how low or down you get, with God, if you'll just trust him and let him into your heart, he can fix anything. Josh and Misty found themselves among the tombs of Tennessee. And then God and his people showed up and said, you don't belong here. It's not where you're supposed to be. Faith promised, we're plenty big enough, and our God is, we know he's He's big enough to go after every tomb in Tennessee. That's our vision. There shouldn't be anybody living among the tombs alone, crying, cutting themselves, thinking that they're all alone with this demonic possession and oppression that's going on. I love what he said. Everything I prayed for is in my life. That God uses the broken. Can I ask you, who's your one? Who's your one that's in the tombs of Tennessee that the enemy has? And I believe God's putting them on your heart right now for you to go after. And listen, God's not saying it'll be easy, but he is saying, number one, I'll go with you. He promises that in Matthew 28, I'm gonna go with you. And number two, he promises it is gonna be worth it.

I wanna read you the last two verses in this interaction between Jesus and this guy. It's my favorite part of the whole story. In verse 18, it says, as Jesus was getting into the boat, came for the one guy, the man who had been deemed possessed, begged to go with him and he said, Jesus, or Jesus, sorry, Jesus didn't let him go. Is that not crazy? There's no way he wants to stay. These guys chained him up, do all this stuff, but Jesus doesn't let him go. Why wouldn't Jesus let him go? He said, go home to your own town and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, how he has had mercy on you. So the man went away and began to tell the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him and all the people were amazed. They were amazed by God's glory in his story. Some of us think that God can't use us. This guy was demon possessed an hour ago and the first missionary that Jesus sends out to the Decapolis, which means 10 cities, one of the biggest missionary journeys he gives anybody in the Bible, he gave to a man that was demon possessed. Do you think that this man had his apologetics down? Do you think that this man knew the Roman's road? It hadn't been written yet, so I doubt it.

Do you know what he had? He had his story and he was shining with God's glory. The same thing that's available to every single one of us. God wants to use us just like this. It's exciting. So here's what we're gonna do. Today's been good, but we've been excited. Now today, right now it's time to get equipped. Here in a moment, I'm gonna ask you to pray with somebody. I'm gonna ask you to share with them the one person that you're gonna go after this week in the tombs of Tennessee, the person you're gonna invite to Easter. I'm gonna ask you to pray with somebody you don't know. Some of you guys just regretted that you came to church today, right then. You regretted it. If we can't be bold in here, there's no way we're gonna be bold out there. So here in a moment, I'm gonna ask you to pray with somebody you don't know and tell them who's the person you're going after. They're gonna pray for you, you're gonna pray for them. And it happened the first service. Our worship centers, I believe, are gonna be filled with the greatest praise they've ever been filled with, which is God's people praying out loud for people who don't know Jesus yet. But right now, while some of you guys are about to throw up, let me encourage you.

I got just two stories I wanna share with you. I got a text message from a couple. They said, hey, we went out to eat this week and we invited our server, our waitress, to ask if we could pray for her. And then we asked her if she'd come to church with us. Her eyes filled with tears. And she said, this is exactly what she said. I asked Chatt GPT this morning to help me find a church in our area. I love Chatt GPT, I love all that stuff. It can't come and sit at your table and say, can I pray for you, can I love you, can I give you my cell phone number? You can call me if you need me. As soon as you're off, I wanna go to church with you. The power of an invitation. Let me tell you another one. A couple of weekends ago, two of our pastors, Kyle and Miles, were walking past a prayer room and saw this guy laying face down, face down in there. So they walked in and said, hey, man, how you doing? They met Tim. Tim had been out of prison for two months, and he had just talked to his dad. His dad is still in prison, and his dad goes to GBB. And his dad said, hey, Tim, the church I go to in here is called Faith Promise, go find it. The first weekend Tim comes, he's so impressed by the spirit of the Lord, he finds himself face down.

And then two of our pastors go in there and say, hey, come with us to celebrate recovery on Monday night. They show up Monday night. There's a call for a spontaneous baptism, just like we'll have next weekend at Easter. And Tim realizes, I need a relationship with Jesus, and I need to be baptized. His dad, who's in GBB, invites him, shows up. He's on his face, less than 24 hours. He's saved and baptized. Hey, man, can we give God some praise for that? Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. I'm gonna ask you right now, in boldness and in faith, find somebody you don't know, tell them who you're gonna go after this week, the tombs of Tennessee. And then let them pray for you and you pray for them.

Come on, let's fill our worship centers with the sound of prayer for God's people. Let's do it now. Come on. Jesus, Jesus. Jesus, Jesus. Jesus, Jesus. Jesus, Jesus. Jesus, Jesus. Jesus, Jesus. Jesus, Jesus. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus. Jesus, Jesus. Right now, God, our prayers are filling up heaven. We're praying right now for people that don't know you. We're praying for a burden, an opportunity, a boldness. We're praying you would move in power. God, you're changing us right now. We came into your presence to be changed. You're changing us right now, Jesus. Jesus, Jesus, Holy Spirit, Jesus, let us be sent. God, let us be changed. God, let us not look like we looked yesterday. God, let us go after people who need you. Jesus, the Gerasene demoniac, the first missionary, God, sent out to the 10 cities. Let it be us, God, let it be us, let it be us. God, let it be us, let it be now, let it be now, Father. Please, God, we worship you, God. We're lifting up prayers, God. Let it be us, send us on a mission, God. Make us sick if we're not obedient, God. Please, please, please, God, you're the most important thing to us. We love you, we love you, we love you, we love you. Amen, amen, you guys finish up praying. If you're done praying, you can have a seat. You finish up praying. I've been coming to Faith Promise for 30 years and I don't know that I've heard a more sweet sound

in our worship centers than that. It's amazing, keep on praying if you need to. But hey, maybe you've never met Jesus as your Savior. I love what it says in Galatians 5.1. It says, for freedom, it's for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, do not let yourself be burdened again by the yoke of slavery. Some of us think that Jesus saved us for religion, that Jesus saved us for rules. No, Jesus saves you because you were made to be free. Jesus saves you for freedom. You're to live in freedom. You're to live in a life full of purpose. You're to live in life and life to the full. You're not supposed to be a slave and you're thinking, how am I gonna win people around me? How are people gonna meet Jesus around me? I don't have all the scriptures memorized, neither do the demon-possessed guy. I don't have all these stories. The demon-possessed guy had the one. But guess, that one is worth it. And what God has done and will do in your life is worth it. Get out there, share, step out in faith, let God move. But hey, if you've never started a relationship with Jesus, you're being drawn in right now. You're still living in slavery and in bondage. You're being drawn in right now. Today's the day.

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free through dying on the cross and offering us salvation. And if you're ready to receive the salvation of Jesus, will you bow your head and close your eyes? All of us together, we're gonna pray this out as a family. Let's pray out loud all together. Say, Jesus, I know I've sinned, but I know you came to pay for my sin by dying on the cross, offering me eternal life by raising from the grave. I want your freedom. I want to live in your freedom. Be my Savior. With heads still bowed and eyes still closed. Hey, if that's you today, you stepped into freedom today, a son or daughter of God, we just raise your hand high. Over today, we're having Easter for a bunch of church staff on Tuesday, and he's stirring up about next weekend. Go out and meet him. Go out and meet him in your school and in your neighborhood and the people that God's put in your heart. Go out and meet him. And I just wanna take a moment and worship. Worship this into our hearts.
