3 Keys for Achieving God’s Plan for You | Mysteries in the Gospel of John
This week Rabbi Schneider looks at the life of Jesus in John 13 to reveal how knowing our identity, destiny, and completeness in God frees us from striving for the approval of the world.
Do you know, here's the question, do you know what you really need? So often we're spending energy pursuing things that we think we need, that we think are the answers and too many times we end up at the end of that road and find that there's only a pot of junk at the end of that false rainbow. Do you know what you really need to feel content, to feel whole, to feel at peace with yourself, at peace with life and at peace with God? Today I'm going to show you from the Word of God what it is from the life of Jesus that we really need. Here the Word of God, we're beginning today in the 13th chapter of the Gospel of John, the grass withers and the flowers fade, but the Word of God abides forever. Now before the feast of the Passover, Jesus, knowing that His hour had come, He was about to go to the cross, it was at Passover, why was it at Passover? Because He was fulfilling Passover, He was the fulfillment of the ancient Passover through which the Lord delivered Israel through the blood of Olam, Yeshua, the Lamb of God was about to spill His blood to deliver God's chosen ones. That's why He went to the cross on Passover. This is why 28 times in the book of Revelation, He's referred to as the Lamb. So knowing that His hour had come during Passover, Yeshua knowing He was about to be crucified, that He was about to be that sacrificial Lamb. We read there, Jesus knowing that His hour had come, that He would depart out of this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end. So let's just digest us for a second, we're setting the stage, we're asking ourselves the question, do we know what we really need? So I'm just setting the stage for the revelation that's about to be delivered through Jesus Himself. Yeshua knew He was about to go to the cross, He knew His hour had come, He knew He was departing out of this world, that His life was about to be finished, don't you want to get to the end of your life and feel good about how you spent your life in this world? That's what was happening to Yeshua here.
He was about to leave this world and yet He knew when He was about to leave this world that He had accomplished the purpose for which He had come into the world for. And beloved, you and I did be thinking about this as well. When we get to the end of our life, would we be able to be at peace with God and at peace with ourselves, knowing that we had done our best to complete the purpose for which we're in this world, our God ordained purpose. So we knew that He was to depart out of this world to the Father, now get this next phrase. Having loved His own who were in the world, that's interesting, Yeshua was in the world and the first focus was that He loved His own. That should give you and I a clue, that we're in this world not to get to be somebody so that our identity can be fulfilled through worldly status or money, but we're in the world to love, just as at the end of His life and what does a text say about Him? He loved His own who were in the world. He loved them to the end. I mean, let that sink in here, okay? How well are we loving those people that the Lord has put in our life? Yeshua loved his own and He loved them to the end. We're going to get to the end of our life soon, beloved, and are we going to be at peace knowing that we truly loved those whom the Father had brought into our life and we love them to the end? I mean, this is a goal that we should have every day, right? To grow in loving the people of the Lord the Father has put in relationship with. A lot of people are distracted by so many things, they're pursuing so many things in the world, whether it be fame or money or status or the lust of the flesh or the lust of the eyes, pursuing so many things, but what we really need to be focused on every day is loving the people that the Lord has brought into our sphere, into our lives, our husbands, our wives, our children, our grandchildren, our neighbors, the people we work with. He loved his own that we're in the world, beloved, and we love them to the end. That should be our focus as well. the last meal he was about to have with his disciples. So let's pick up now and take a peek
into what that last meal looked like. During supper, the devil having already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, to betray him. So here's Yeshua. He's about to leave the world. Judas is at the table. Jesus knows, Yeshua knows that Judas is going to betray him. And it's interesting. It was the devil that put it in Judas' heart to betray Yeshua. We're in a spiritual war, beloved ones. The things that people do to you, the way that people treat you, oftentimes it's not just natural. It's not just for a reason. It's because the devil has put a spirit of hatred in their heart, or the devil's trying to defeat you through somebody else. Just like in this situation, the devil was trying to defeat Yeshua by putting into the heart of Judas to betray him. The devil didn't understand that having Jesus crucified was actually going to turn into God's great victory. Paul said if the devil would have known that, if the devil would have understood that Yeshua's crucifixion, it was actually going to be turned into the resurrection that would ultimately dethrone him. Paul said if the devil would have known that, he would have never put him to death. But the devil didn't know that because God's ways are above our ways and they're past finding out, except by his own spirit's revelation. And so the devil put it into the heart of Judas to betray Jesus. Now look at the next verse. Remember how we started today. Do you know what you really need? Will you get to the end of your life knowing you fulfilled the purpose that you're here? So now we're going to find the key right here. How did Jesus live his life and what did he have? Why did Jesus have what he needed? Why was Jesus complete within himself? Have you ever heard of the phrase of being comfortable in your own skin? We've all heard that phrase. It's a great thing to aspire to be comfortable in your own skin, to be at peace with yourself. Why was Jesus at peace with himself? What did he have? He wasn't rich, right? He didn't have fame in some respects. I mean, in some respects, he did, but he wasn't a king. He wasn't wealthy. But why was he so peaceful? Why was he so content? Why was he the great I am? Here we go. Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands. That's number one. We're going to take these apart. And then he had come forth from God. That's number two and number three and was going back to God. So Jesus had completed his mission. He was at the end of his life. And what do we learn about him? Three things that you and I want to apply to our lives. Here we go, beloved ones. Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands. So Yeshua was not in the world trying to get because he felt like he lacked something. Many people spend their whole life
trying to get because they perceive that they're lacking something. If you don't feel whole inside, what do you do? You try to do something that you think is going to make you feel whole. So sometimes you think it's a better career. You think it's more money. You think it's a different spouse. You think it's a different house. You think it's a different car. You think it's a different school. Whatever it is, people spend their lives trying to get what it is that they think they need to make them whole. But notice Jesus here. He said the foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nest, but the son of man has nowhere to lay his head. So he had nothing in the world. He didn't have a big house. He didn't have any of those things. Yet he knew somehow that he possessed everything. So once again, the text reads, "Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands." We need to begin here, beloved. We need to know that we already have everything that we think we need. The Bible says that the Lord has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places. So we need to reprogram our minds. Are you looking for peace? You know what? Begin to confess. I already have peace. Are you looking to feel more powerful? Begin to confess instead, "I have power. I'm born again." Are you looking to be beautiful and attractive? Begin to confess, "I'm already beautiful. I am so attractive to you, Jesus. You are so you already have. Do you see the secret to Yeshua's inner life? He already knew, beloved, that the Father had given him all things. He was free from worldly ambition because he was already whole. Again, you've been blessed, as scripture says in the book of Ephesians chapter one, with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places. Yeshua's already said to us, "My peace I give to you." I want you to confess that you already are, that you already have what you think you need. That's secret number one. Let's look at the second declaration of here and that he had come forth from God. He knew who he was, beloved, because he knew who his father was. When you know who your daddy is, you'll know who you are. I've met people that have very mediocre jobs, yet they're securing themselves and they're not trying to get something from the world because they're already secure because they know that they're so-and-so son. When we have identity by knowing that we've come from the Father's loins, that his DNA is in us. When we know that, beloved, we're going to be comfortable and secure in our own skin. Jesus knew that he had come from the Father and I want to encourage you and I to warfare into this present reality. Much of our thinking is based on not knowing that we've come from God, not knowing that we're born again, not knowing that we're the Father's son or the Father's daughter, not knowing that we're
the children of God. John said, for example, "Behold, what manner of love the Father has given unto us that we should be called the children of God. You're a child of God. You're a child of God, my dear one. Beloved one, you're a chosen one. You're the Father's own child. He birthed you. He's in you. His spirit is in you and he wants to rewire your mind. He wants to rewire our mind to understand our identity as those that are born of him, those that are his seat." Jesus said, "If you've seen me, you've seen the Father." Well, you know what? We know that we have a lot of transformative process that needs to take place and unfold in our life. We're still being sanctified, but at the end of the day, beloved, we're going to look as the Father looks. Just like Yeshua said, if you've seen me, you've seen the Father. Beloved my friend, that's your identity. You are destined, according to the book of Romans 8, to be conformed to the image of God's Son. You're destined, you're predestined to be conformed to the image of Yeshua. So when you understand who you are, when you understand what your destiny is, that's going to make you secure. See, what we need, people love it, is not the world's affirmation. I want you to get this. I began today by saying, "Do you know what you need?" A lot of us don't know what we need. How do I know that we don't know what we need? Because too many of us are seeking the approval of the world. Too many of us are constantly visiting our Facebook page to see how many people like us or how many people are viewing our comments. We're constantly looking for the approval of man because we're looking for identity and we think that we're going to find identity when the world affirms us. And we feel so dejected when somebody rejects us because our identity is based in how we perceive other people feel about us. But Jesus didn't care. You know why he didn't care? Because he was number one seeking the Father's approval, but most importantly, he knew who he was to the Father. He knew he was the Father's Son. That's why he didn't care what the world thought. That's why he could endure the rejection. That's why he wasn't manipulated by people. That's why he wasn't defeated by people's criticism of him. He knew who he was. He knew he was the Son of the Father and my friend, beloved friend of mine. The same thing is true of you. You're a beloved, chosen one. Jesus said, "You did not choose me. I chose you." You were brought to Jesus. lest the Father draws them. The Father chose you, according to Ephesians 1, before the foundation of the world, to be in His Son. That's your identity.
When you know that, you're gonna feel a wholeness and a peace that the world could never give you, that a million friends on your Facebook page could never give you. It's the only way God's affirmation. So Jesus knew that He already possessed everything, just like we do. We've been blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, according to Ephesians 1. Number two, He knew who He was. He knew we had come forth from God. He knew we had come forth from the Father's loins. He knew He was God's own Son, and the same is true for you and me. We need to grasp this. We need to seize this and not let anything else in. And number three here, get this. He knew He was going back to God. Let's read the whole thing together. Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, number one, He already had everything. He wasn't in the world to get 'cause He already had. Number two, and that He had come forth from God. He had an identity 'cause He knew that God was His Father, just like you, and three was going back to God. What does it mean He knew? He was, as the text says, going back to God. You know what that means, beloved? He knew He was going to heaven. He knew He was going back to the Father's right hand.
He knew He was going back to glory. He said as He was on the cross Father, glorify me with the glory that I had with you before the world was. He knew His destiny. He had church identity and destiny. And the two keys for living in victory, my son, my daughter and the Lord, the two keys for you and I to live in victory is identity and destiny. We need to know who we are, and we need to know we're going to heaven. So I want you to set your eyes like flint upon these truths, upon the Father. And I want you to complete the mission that you're on earth for. You're on earth to love the people. Remember where I began today? That as Jesus was about to go to the cross, He loved His own that we're in the world and He loved them to the end. That's our mission every day to grow in God, to grow in faith, to grow in our relationship with the Father and to listen, love those that the Father has placed in our life. And every day is a day of transformation as we're continually growing in coming out of ourself through sacrificial loving, loving those people that are in our sphere, in our orbit. I hope you'll listen to this message even again.
It's so important, identity and destiny, knowing that we already have what we're searching for. You'll be delivered from endless searching and striving when you know you've already got what you think that you lack. And number two, we want to focus on love. It's all about love, right? Everything will pass away, but love, faith and hope and the greatest of these beloved ones is love. But whole manner of love, the Father has given unto you, my beloved friend, that you should be called the child of the living God. So I want you to arise in these glorious truths and don't let anybody bring you down. Don't let your friend bring you down. Don't let your mom bring you down. Don't let your dad bring you down. Don't let your employer bring you down. Don't let your neighbor bring you down. You stand in who you are in Messiah Yeshua. Father has given you both an identity and a destiny. In the book of Numbers chapter six, the Lord gave instructions to Moses and Aaron to speak this blessing over his people. And the Lord said, when you speak these words over my people, I will place my name on them and bless them, receive the impartation of the Lord's blessings. (singing in foreign language) (singing in foreign language)
(singing in foreign language) Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah Shalom. The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord lift you up by his countenance and the Lord give you, beloved one, his peace. God bless you and shalom.
