How much I love you, how much I love you, God
How much I love you, more than I can breathe How much I love you, more than I can breathe How much I love you, God I love you, God How much I love you, how much I love you, God How much I love you, how much I love you, God I love you, more than my life I love you, more than my life I love you, more than my life I love you, more than my life How much I love you How much I love you, God How much I love you How much I love you, God Lord, we love you You can open your lips and say, Lord, I love you And maybe there are times when I don't show it, Lord Father, but today I come before your throne of sublime grace To ask you to help me keep moving forward I open the doors, Lord, of my life, of my heart, of my understanding So that you may be in me So that your word may be in me There is so much influence in this world, Lord That shouts of everything except your name And you have put us as salt and as light To shout your name, Jesus Today we come together as a church to ask you to help us That we need you, as always Thank you, Father Thank you for loving us first
Thank you for seeking us Thank you for reaching us And thank you for supporting us Every day, God, thank you Prepare our hearts for this message Lord, transform, come and transform whatever you want, God In our hearts, in our minds And that we may come out renewed, God And with strength to continue being light in this world, God Receive all the honor and all the glory Thank you because we can adore you and sing to you Thank you, Lord Jesus Amen and Amen Amen Before you sit down, if you can stand up one last time. I know I'm doing something uncomfortable right now, but would you like to do something dangerous? No, don't worry about that. I want to invite you to leave your seats and greet someone. Someone who is here in this place. Maybe it's comfortable for some, uncomfortable for others. But let's greet each other for a moment, and I know that those who are watching us on the internet will patiently wait for this moment to happen. Because it's good to get to the Lord's house, see each other, greet each other, hug each other. It's good that you're here with me. That's it. That's it. Nice weather. Sometimes a hug is what someone needed at this time. How beautiful. How beautiful you look. How beautiful you look. How beautiful it is to greet each other, to reconnect as a family in faith. Well, now go back to your seats. Come on. I know it's dangerous to ask you the opposite of greeting each other, because then you'll be talking for a long time, I say. How many of you are ready to receive the Word of God this afternoon? We're ready. Give the Holy Spirit a round of applause this afternoon. He's in charge of giving us what He wants to talk about today. Now that you're ready, I'm going to move you to 1955. February 28th, a little while ago, 1955, a Colombian sailor fell into the Caribbean Sea. You know that there is the south of Puerto Rico, of Cuba, of the Dominican Republic, of Haiti, to the north of Colombia, Venezuela, all that region. And that man's name was Luis Alejandro Velasco.
Ten days he was drifting in this sea, the open sea, in a raft, without a drop of water. So you can imagine how uncomfortable it was, without a single bite of food. And sharks surrounding him every afternoon. On time, as if he had a watch. And perhaps there is a photo of a newspaper of that time present. So this is real, although there was a cover in 2020, because a writer named Gabriel García Márquez wrote part of this true story. But also this great writer brought it in an illustrious way, so that the world would know about this story. The sun burned his skin during the day, the cold choked his bones at night. I want you to move to that world, that reality. And for the seventh, eighth day, the hallucinations began. He himself later told something that I have recorded. He said that every time he saw a fish eating by the sharks or any other animal, floating near his raft, he felt as if he had sold his soul for a single bite. It seems realistic to me. Selling your soul for a single bite. That's what real hunger does. What family does. What is true in our lives. It's natural. I'm hungry, I haven't eaten, I'm thirsty. The sun, the wind. It takes off your masks. It makes you think, it shows you without adornments the reality that it's the only thing that really matters. And it's taking something to your stomach. Everything else disappears. In the middle of any hallucination. And I want you to notice something before we continue. Velasco didn't fake that hunger. Or did he? Did he fake it? He didn't, right?
Velasco didn't fake it. He didn't program it. He didn't say, I'm hungry tomorrow. He didn't generate it with discipline.
Has aprendido mucho, ya tienes mucho conocimiento. No dice aquí estudien y comprueben,
dice gusten, saboren. That's exactly what I'm continuing to talk to you about today. Now, let me give you a simpler example of daily life. You know the difference between someone who says, I know a singer because I listen to his songs, and someone who knows him because he's his friend, right? The first one knows the lyrics by heart, he's heard the lyrics a thousand times, and he says, well, he can sing the whole thing, I know it by heart, I hope it's good songs. But if that singer calls you, tomorrow or today, on the phone, and says, here we are, you wouldn't even know what to say. You'd say, hello, how are you? You really don't know him, right? Or do you know him because of his songs? Many times we say, I know who he is, his name is this person, his name is Luis Fonsi, his name is Luis Miguel, or his name is Shakira, or his name is, and I can keep mentioning names, but what if we mention Daniel Calvetti, or his name is Jacobo Ramos,
or his name is many of the singers we listen to and sing in front of us. We don't necessarily know him because we know his songs. Now, maybe you don't even know all the songs, but you recognize his voice immediately. Do you know how his week is going, or do you know what hurts him, or not? Because of social media? No. Many of us don't know the lyrics, or we don't know the lyrics about God. But if God called us today, we would recognize him. We would have to tell him. And that's what I want us to recover today. No more information, recognition, understanding, real closeness, and I want you to know something, this doesn't recover suddenly, a single Sunday afternoon, a powerful time that we can have together, it recovers just like any real friendship. A real friendship becomes real over time. It becomes real with shared time, with constant conversations, with the daily decision to stay present. Today is a new beginning. And here I have Juan in front of me. Juan, give me your hand for a moment. I know I'm asking you for a moment. Juan, we see each other on Sundays, and we say, hey, it's good to see you,
greetings, have a good week. That makes me know Juan. Unless he doesn't invite me to have a coffee. Juan, invite me to have a coffee this week. Let's go. I'm trying to create the opportunity to go eat something Peruvian. But we all know, and maybe this sounds common sense, that time connects, develops relationships, and sometimes we ask ourselves, why do I feel a distant God? Well, it's as simple as that. How are you spending time with Him? Before I read the next verse, I need to give you a piece of information that makes it even more powerful, if not less. What I'm going to read, God originally told His people Israel, a promise of restoration directed to Zion's daughter, that's what it's called. And someone could ask, what does that have to do with me today? Because it was a long time ago. It has to do with you, because in Christ, you and I, we are close to this, injected in that same people, in that same family of covenant with the Lord. We are part of the people of God.
That's the foundation of what rests, what we can see, and what we are talking about today. And we will see it in more detail later. But here's what I want to say, which is a verse you can take for yourself, and receive it. It's yours, it belongs to you today. And I would like you to close your eyes for a moment. If you can. This is yours. It belongs to you, to your people. And I'm going to read it, because it's almost never preached about this, but I want you to listen to the weight this song has. And if Bruno can help me, listen to this. Look at what the Lord says to you, my heart. The Lord your God, I'm going to read it to you several times. The Lord your God is in the midst of you.
y dices ahora estoy bien porque tengo una disciplina horas The same prayers as always, you come to the worship every Sunday And all of that can happen while the heart has already gone To another place months ago And there is not really God's hunger, even if it sounds religious With whom Jesus had more problems when he came to the earth, if not with the religious Come with me And third And this includes me too The cell phone, and it seemed like it did not exist And I can say other things, but I want to emphasize this The first thing we touch when we wake up The last thing before going to sleep Before God, sometimes even before our own family None of these three things, brothers and sisters, is sin in itself The work is not bad, the routine is not bad And poor thing, the cell phone is not either The problem is not what we do It is what we stop doing while we do it We stop looking at it We stop talking to it And one day, without realizing it, we no longer felt hunger, only obligation I am obliged And physical hunger warns when it is missing It hurts, it feels, you can not ignore it There are people who feel what they call in English, hungry Have you heard that term? And it is a simple mix in Spanish to say I am very upset because I am hungry
And it is better not to approach that person until you give them something to eat Spiritual hunger goes out in silence And that is why it is more than dangerous Not because God changed But because we stop looking at it closely, talking to it, praying to it, and looking for it And maybe you are listening to me and you think, I already tried it I prayed, I fasted, I looked, I felt something I have already done everything I can And it has not arrived, it has not arrived Listen to me well, I want to tell you this Spiritual hunger is not something that occurs with religious effort It is born when you stop trying to generate it And you say, how? I thought so No, it is simply looking at Him Approaching Him It is born when you stop trying to generate it That is, you are not broken for not feeling You are tired of carrying only the relationship Only the effort of God to look for your heart And you are halfway And if today you doubt If you are not sure that all this is real If faith makes it difficult for you I want to tell you something The honest doubt, said to God Is more a real prayer Than a perfect phrase, said without a heart And this, for me, is the most important part of this afternoon He prefers your honesty to your performance And if you are new here, or you have never really spoken to God
You do not need to know the correct words You do not even need to understand everything that has been said today And you say, today it was more or less half and half It does not matter You just need to be honest That is prayer God needs and wants your honesty in front of Him Today I do not ask you for more effort I ask you to look and speak to Him And if you have been praying the same words for years Without feeling anything when you say them I want to tell you that God is not bored of you A father is never tired of listening to his son Unless he has a lot of shouting Even if he says the same words every night What matters to him is not the variety of vocabulary It is that you keep coming to Him And maybe you do not even know what prayer is Welcome to the club Maybe they never explained it to you Or you think you have to do it with elegant words Very beautiful, eloquent, in a certain order You have to do it And sometimes I have to tell someone Can you pray today? I do not know how to pray, pastor Okay Sometimes with a certain tone of voice to feel good Let me simplify it ...lo que, lo más que yo pueda hacer.
Say these words, Almighty God and Heavenly Father, we come before your presence at this hour. And repeat the same, the same, the same, I did it for years, that's why I say it clearly. Without knowing how to speak, if you know how to speak, you know how to pray. Period. It's as simple as that. Look at what Ephesians chapter 2 verse 13 says. But now, in Christ Jesus, you who in other times were far away, have been brought near by the blood of Christ. You don't come near God for having generated enough hunger. You come near because Christ has already crossed the distance with His blood. Hunger is not what opens the door, the cross already opened it. Hunger is what you feel once you enter. But that, to pray, is important and to do it without fear, not because of what you feel, but because of what He already did in you. Now, I would like to land with this, because I think it could be a nice afternoon of meditation. I'm going to tell you something of mine. I grew up in the church. I think I was born in the church. My mom didn't tell me, maybe I was born in the hospital and in Caesarea and everything, but I think that the next day I was already in the church. That's how radical my parents were. I had genuine moments with God, those that you don't forget. But at 18, in my first year of college, I found myself empty. I found myself like, what do I do in this process? I feel like I've grown, I had vigil, half-vigils, I had prayer time, youth president, biblical classes. I was in everything you can imagine. I slept in the church from time to time, I had keys and everything. But when I reached 18, in my first year of college, I was empty. I didn't even know what I was studying or why I was studying what I was studying. And without realizing it, I started going to church out of habit.
Not because I was hungry. Because that's how it was done. The routine. The religiosity. Until one day, God took me out of my comfort zone. And thank God for that, when He does it, He doesn't hesitate. He invited me to something I didn't expect. And in that process, I went a whole year without the normal distractions that I was experiencing. To get to know Him, purely Him. And I went to what was called the Disciple School of an organization called Juventud Con Una Misión. Studying the word in depth, in community. I got up, had lunch, had breakfast, had dinner. God, God, I prayed, I was with people around me. And then, when I went out to serve the country, I got to other countries. And that's where everything changed at that moment. It's not that everyone has to do what I did. But God stopped me. He said, I love you, I don't want your religiosity. And from there, on a vacation, I went to China. And you may have heard that before. And other parts of Asia. I met people who worship God in clandestine churches. Hidden meetings. At real risk. Where you would have to look to get to a hidden place and worship God. Because there, being a Christian can cost you freedom. And I want you to listen to this. Those people feared less than I did. They feared less than I did in everything. Less freedom, less resources, less security.
But I was more hungry for God than anyone I had met. Look at the circumstances. And seeing them made me ask a question I didn't expect. If they have so little, they are so hungry. Why do I have so little? Why? And that year, I would get up hungry for God. I would go to bed hungry for His presence. I would devour the Bible as if it were real food. And it wasn't that I prayed harder. Or that I screamed more, or said more things. No, no, no. It wasn't that.
Y esa hambre te va a llevar a buscarle. This flavor that makes my mouth salivate now and makes me want to eat more, more and more. Helping me with that same feeling of experiencing something rich, tasty, but that is not gluten-free, you know? Something rich, tasty, and to delight in it.
Because God is the one who gave you the five senses, right? And gave you the ability to enjoy it. And not only enjoy this, but also enjoy His presence. And I'm going to do something out of the traditional or religious box. I invite you to stand on your feet with me. My greatest wish this afternoon is that you leave this place saying to the Lord, I love you, I need you, I long for you, I cannot live without you. I want to look for you. That will be noted in your daily life. There are times when we depend on a prophet, a pastor, an evangelist, people who preach to try to feel the presence of God. And how beautiful that is. But probably God is telling you today, knocking on the door of your heart and saying, I want you to feel me in your intimacy. That you feel me in your closed room, perhaps in your darkness. That you can also perceive me on my knees when no one sees you. I want to touch you, I want to hug you, I want to yearn for you. I want you to see that I am your God. I am not that gold that is always looking to point you. We have grown perhaps in a religious idea where when you see a duck, Oh, I have to behave well. It's not that, nothing to do. It is a God who loves you, who longs for you, who looks for you, who hugs you, who walks with you. What a father! Even if a son fails him, he says, go away, I'm going to kick you. What a father does that! What a father does that! No! And my prayer is a church that has intimacy with the Lord.
Constant connection and prayer with honesty. And it is where we break all the patterns that we have had many times of the priest standing there who knows how to pray or read the liturgies. Break that veil that Jesus also broke many years ago. Of the super religious or the one who has access to the Father when he really wants direct access with his beloved children who are in this place. You are his beloved son. You are his beloved daughter. And in rows I have a gift for you. It is not Holy Supper, but it is a gift. And whoever wants to stay here in front of you, if you have to return to your chair, you can do it. Something different and sublime today in front of the Lord. You are going to pass and you are going to grab a beer and a piece of bread. What can you do? Choose the bread of your choice, of the flavor you want. Chew it, enjoy it. But tell the Lord, Lord, lift up my spiritual guttative papillae today. I want to start savoring and perceive your presence as I have never seen it before in my life. And I want to enjoy you. I want to honor you and I want to give you the best of me. We are going to do a raffle now, they say in my country. Get out of your seat, there is a row here. There is a table, a row here. Take something if you want to come here. Do not worry, we will clean it later. Come and let God speak to you through this simple dynamic. What I owe you is coffee and hot chocolate. But you are going to imagine it. And take advantage of this opportunity and enjoy what God has given you.
Enjoy it. A little piece of bread. Do not save it for later. The worship team can go on while I continue to share a detail. If today you recognize that you stopped looking at it closely. Listen to me well. This is the moment to get to know Him again, not to repair you first, because we talked about repair, just to return, prodigal son, prodigal daughter. And if you don't know how to start praying, if you feel that you don't have the words, or that you haven't done it for so long, that you don't know where to start, I'm going to give you the simplest prayer that exists, and it's enough. Listen to me well. God, here I am. Teach me to get to know you again, because getting to know you is going to bring me closer to you, to value you, to understand you. That is already a complete prayer. You don't need more than that phrase to start today. Before taking your cell phone every morning, say, Lord, good morning, God. Good morning. I know you don't sleep. You haven't slept in China. Here is a different time. You are still awake, Lord, working. Good morning from me, grateful for a night of rest, but you are giving priority to the one who has always been with you in your dreams, in your waking up, in your sleeping. Praying at every moment, that is prayer, it starts so simple. And finally, remember Velasco, the one who got stuck, the sailor I told you about at the beginning. He said that on his tenth day, you can look it up or read the book of García Márquez. He said, already without strength, he put his head on the paddle, ready to die. He said, I'm hungry, I'm thirsty, I have nowhere else. And then, at that moment, he saw the land. The shore was closer than he thought. Closer than he thought. If today you feel that you have been drifting for a long time, spiritually speaking, the shore is closer than you think, God. He has his arms open for you. Ready. His name is Jesus. He is in this place. And He already crossed the sea for you, and He crossed it for me. And one day, all that we live today by faith will be completed. And He will end up saying, like in Revelation 21, Here, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and God Himself will dwell among them. There will be no more bread to lift as a symbol. There will be no more screen, nor cell, nor distance between us and Him.
There will be a direct connection. There will be no more hunger, because we will be thirsty all the time. We will have a face-to-face encounter, without interruption, without constant movement, face-to-face with the God of the universe. But we don't have to wait until that day. He is here today, telling you, I love you, I embrace you, I am with you. And in this moment, while you may be able to eat and taste, if you haven't already, try the bread, try it, try it, try it. You can start to taste it. You can start to taste it, without shame. Look, eating in the church, like this, easy. Don't worry. Don't worry. Enjoy it. Enjoy those taste buds. It's a gift from God for you. Enjoy it. How delicious is God, isn't He? He made us beings with a variety of tastes. That is God. And now, even if it hasn't finished yet, you can have it there or keep eating it, but let's go, then, in worship, to enjoy the spiritual taste buds. And what if God, who opened His arms and opened them to love you, and who is even romantic with you, because God is incredible, He loves you, you will return that love to Him in your own way. Genuine, honest, without many words, perhaps religious, but from the deepest part of the heart. And believe me, He will see that as a perfume at His feet. Can we do it together? Let's do it together now and worship Him in spirit and in truth.
Let's do it. Who is sitting on the throne if it isn't God, the universe? Sancto, Sancto, Sancto, Sancto, Sancto, e il Sul. Di le Santo. Santo, Santo, Santo, Santo, Santo, e il Sul. Sancto, Santo, Santo, Santo, Sancto, Santo, Santo, e il Sul. Santo, Santo, Santo, Santo, Santo, Santo, e il Sul. Santo, Santo, Santo, Santo, Santo, Santo, Santo, e il Sul.
After the earthquake, there was a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire, and after the fire, the sound of a soft whisper, and when Elias heard it, he covered his face with his cloak, he went out and went to the entrance of the cave, then a voice came to him and said, What are you doing here, Elias? This passage is usually summarized by saying that God was in the stillness, or the peaceful whistle, but it translates as the sound of a soft whisper, emphasizing that God often speaks in silent and personal ways, not only in the spectacular. And it is an excellent text to teach us that God does not always manifest in the extraordinary, in the wow, wow, wow, in noise that can distract His presence. There are times when we want more noise, more music, more volume, and God wants to tell you, I just want to speak to your heart. I want to show you who I am, I am your God, know me, know me, walk with me, I am here to hug you, to cuddle you, to be your friend. Your daddy, your daddy. And if that's what you're wearing today, wear it here tomorrow with me, in each one's place, in their place, get up and tell the Lord, thank you for a new day, count on me in everything. We walk together, we are the same team.
